[Music] [Applause] [Music] hey guys welcome back to my channel so today's video is gonna be all about my dog she's currently having a sleep standard it's gonna be a day in the life of her but also I'm gonna be answering all your questions about having a dog and just like kind of sharing my tips I guess and experiences in having a dog re I think you need to come and be front and center for this please can you come in this is re my dog and she is almost 2 she's 2 in July and she is a rescue dog so she is a staff across but because she's a rescue I'm not 100% sure what her full braid is because they didn't know what her father was but you know there is definitely some chances that she's got maybe some calfy in her maybe a bit of shar-pei just based on some of her physical features but she is predominantly a staffy I've had her ever since she was 11 weeks old so I was lucky enough to get her when she was a puppy but she had quite a traumatic experience coming into this world she was found in a drain and her and her brother were the only ones to survive out of 8 other puppies so she's a little bit of a miracle pop her mum was very very ill and she'd obviously been dumped and abandoned personality-wise she is an absolute cutie she's very cheeky very silly very playful very energetic but she's also a very anxious dog she struggles with being left alone she is very easily scared and anxious and I think maybe that's because of her experiences early on in life even though having a dog can be so hard especially a rescue dog she's the love of my life the joy of my life and I'm just so happy that I've got her so Ari's day it usually starts nice and bright and early at around 5:30 a.m. she sleeps in my room in her own little bed in the corner this was a decision that I decided to make as soon as I got her that she wouldn't be sleeping in the bed with me that's just a personal choice I know a lot of people like to sleep with their dog if you don't already know I live best friend Emily and she really likes to go for walks early in the morning before she goes to work so IRAs recent new morning routine has actually been going for a walk with Emily so normally she'll come in at 5:30 and open my door and be like hurry and then ari comes running out to her and they go on a morning walk together which has been really great for me because now I have this extra time in the morning to kind of do some work or maybe do a workout or something yeah so her an abnormally go for a walk for about an hour it's a good walk for her to just sniff around do her morning poos I think one of the most popular questions I get when it comes to Aria is how I keep her clean because you guys know I'm a little bit of a clean freak when it comes to cleanliness and also she's an inside dog and I kind of put a lot of effort into you know how I furnish my furnish my house and how it looks and how it feels and how it smells and I'm just I like everything to be really clean I just want to say that I might get a bit of hate for this because people say that I cleaner too much or whatnot but I have run this through with my vet and they have approved my cleaning routine with her they say that she's very healthy and her skin and her hair in perfect condition so please refrain from sending her hey I have made sure that this is healthy and safe for her as well what I do is usually after I water I use one of these two wipes these ones actually my favorite they're called water wax and they're dis little baby wax the reason I really like these ones is because they're pretty much just water with a little bit of grapefruit oil so I just get one of these wipes and I just go over her pores and if she needs it I will go over her face and her body just briefly and that keeps her nice and clean after she's gone outside and had a play or how to walk or whatever and then that way when she comes into the house I don't have to worry about her walking dirt through the house or anything like that I also give her a bath probably on average about once a week depending on what she's done that week I do give her a fairly active adventurous lifestyle so she goes to the dog park a lot she goes to the beach a lot I will usually wash her just whenever she needs it in terms of her getting dirty just she's had her morning walk and her little whack down she usually gets straight back into her downstairs bed and has a sleep for another few hours until around 8:30 or 9:00 which is when I give her breakfast this is the food that I use and then usually I also give her a little bit of meat or some you know tinned sardines or tender salmon or something to kind of go with the biscuits she's usually pretty chilled during the day as long as she gets that morning and afternoon walk she's fine today's lace around the house and sleep in the Sun she kind of follows me from room to room she has this like innate ability of knowing as soon as my foot steps on the stairs to go upstairs like she'll be dead asleep and if I walk over to the stairs and put my foot on that stair she knows she's up and she's following me upstairs I'm gonna take a little look at some of the questions you guys sent in and try to answer some of them one of the most common questions I get is how I get her to not pull on the lead and how I get her to stay with me when I'm walking off leash and I will cover that this afternoon when I take her for a walk so stay tuned if you want to hear about that do you do a doctor when you were still with Tim and how did you decide who would get her when you guys broke up so this was actually really hard because I did get her when I was with Tim and we kind of made that decision knowing that we'd both be there to look after her and share the responsibilities of having a dog and then when we broke up it was a lot for me because you know I would never have gotten a dog if I was single because it's just so much work especially Ari because she's so high energy you need so much exercise so it has definitely been a learning experience trying to manage my time and look after her by myself but Tim still does help out he comes over and walks her all the time and like he's still around and I see him all the time obviously and he's always helping out with Ari but it was kind of obvious that I would get her just because I work from home and I'm always here and she was she's just not a dog that can be left alone all day she's just way too anxious for that and she just wouldn't be having a good time especially considering like we live in an apartment but even if Tim got a backyard he's just at work too much so it just wouldn't it just wouldn't be ideal for for her to live with him how did you teach her not to bite stuff at home and also your hands etc first of all I would highly recommend puppy school that's where I learn everything and also one of my other biggest tips with getting a dog and a puppy in general is be aware that patience is the absolute number one key you will need to repeat things and be patient sometimes hundreds of times before they will learn oh yeah when she was a puppy I pretty much just was really really consistent with saying ah no as soon as she would buy it and instead of like pulling my hand away I kind of push it into her and kind of stand my ground but no so we'd like if she ever did get an object that she wasn't allowed to - I would pretty much pull her up on it show it away and say no and then drop and then actually like leave that thing there and make the connection we're saying this is a no and then give her her toy and this is a yes what's the hardest thing about having a dog oh okay I feel like just the general responsibility that is involved in terms of keeping alive a living being you know beforehand I used to not have to think about what time I'll be home and if I need to you know change my plans to be able to sleep in walking ari or if I need to you know make sure that she has the right toys and the right snacks if I'm gonna leave her for a certain amount of time it's just all of those little things that come into the preparation of looking after the dog and you know not just being able to go and stay somewhere for the night and you know having to think about what I was gonna do yeah and like a lot of people might not have this to the same level as I Drew's because Ari is very very anxious so I have to really think about how I'm gonna go about leaving her if I am gonna leave her for an extended period of time just because she really doesn't do well does Ari help with your anxiety I'm planning on getting an emotional support dog soon yes she definitely helps with my anxiety in terms of having someone having another energy in the house especially when I'm working from home I was there for a hug she's always there to calm you down and make you feel better every time I'm feeling anxious or upset I kind of just go up to her and just put my head into her and just hug her as I think if you are getting it just for like the emotional support reasons maybe get a dog that is like slightly less maintenance in terms of training and exercise because Staffies need to be very well trained and they also need to be very well exercised what Ari does anyway because of the breed that she's got mixed in there with her has she shown any aggression towards other dogs that's my biggest fear with the bully breeds okay I feel like this is really important to talk about because Sophie's definitely have a bad reputation when it comes to this and they have that reputation because Staffies were bred for dog fighting back in the 50s so they do have that in their DNA the ability to fight and they also are very strong and very strong jaws um I don't personally believe that Staffies are aggressive though I do feel they are extremely excitable when there is too much excitement that can lead to aggression or fighting even if it's not meant as an aggressive way but just because they're incredibly overwhelmed ari never showed any signs of aggression until she got attacked one day as I was walking her she was on the lead and a dog had gotten out of their back yard and they ran up behind her and I don't know why they just had it out for ari and he came up behind her and grabbed her back leg and started just going at her and that kind of flipped a switch in re because she just straightaway defended herself and was going absolutely crazy I was a full-on dog fight ever since that moment she has been a lot more quick to retaliate but as soon as that happened and I noticed that she was being a little bit different with other dogs and a little bit more like a little bit more dominant I thought the dog trainer backing the same one that I did puppy school with and she coached me through bringing ari back down to a much much much better home situation in terms of socializing and the way that I did that was through calming her down before she played so you know when I went to a dog park instead of just letting her off when she was super excited I kontin calming her down first making sure that she was like really calm pretty much before she played and that completely changed her in terms of in terms of her energy and in terms of like how she would approach other dogs I think also giving your dog timeouts when they are playing with other dogs is important if you feel like the energy level is creeping up and the excitement's getting a bit too much time out I pull re away I put her on the lead for a second I give her a bit of a break you really have to get good at learning the body language with other dogs as well and I've experienced a lot of dog fights because they take her out of the dog park quite often so I have exceed a lot of dog fights break out and it is not it's not specific to any breed it happens all the time with Labradors with kelpies with Dalmatians with Great Dane but I think because Staffies are so excitable and they like to play rough that sometimes it might be a little bit more likely for them to escalate to a fight which is why it's super important to make sure that if you do have a Safi they need to be very well trained you need to be practicing calm calm calm calm calm training with them and in terms of aggression towards humans she's never shown anything other than licking and love and happiness and excitement I do think though it's like a stranger came into the house that I hadn't welcomed then maybe she would show aggression but I think that's just a normal dog thing normally around lunchtime I will play with Ahri for a little bit we might play with her toys I'll do some training or sometimes I just fill up one of her toys with some treats and she chews on that for like half an hour keeping her nice and entertain giving her something different to do apart from sleeping the real trick come on Vinnie okay will you shake oh yeah Elliott yeah yes roll roll good yeah good game yes so the first thing I actually taught Ari was to eat on command so the way I did this was hold out of the tree and every time she went for it I would close it until she eventually learnt the lesson that she wasn't allowed to either until I said yes another really good training thing to do at home is for walking off lead is practicing heal around the house instead of the using the word heal I use the words with me because I prefer to say that like with me when I want her to work walk right next to me so the way I practice that at home he is if we stand in front of her with a tree I with me trace it back around to the side so she's in position and then we walk with me with me with me with me with me good girl yes good girl you might have to give them traits as they're doing that Bushiroad who knows the exercise so she knows what to do but if they're getting distracted easily you want to give them treats as you're walking to kind of like encourage the behavior [Music] [Applause] [Music] all right so it's just after four and we are on our afternoon walk so this is the walk that is usually our is bigger walk I'll walk to the local dog park and she has a really good play with like the local dogs or sometimes they get in the car and drive to a different dog park I just make sure that whatever we're doing in the afternoon she gets like a really good workout in and a really good walk in she's currently off the lead having a little sniff around so you guys asked me heaps about like walking her on the lead and like how I went about that so I used a technique I can't even remember what it's called but it's pretty much where you walk with them and as soon as they start pulling you stop and you either walk backwards slowly and encourage them to come back by your side by using a treat and then you encourage them to stay by your side and as they walk by your side you reward them with treats and pretty much the idea is that as soon as they start pulling you stop any movement and you don't pull back on the lead you know you keep the tension really nice and loose and just encourage them to come back by your side it takes a lot of patience a lot of commitment a lot of repetition to get that in their head and then because I had worked on that so much with her with walking on the lead when I started walking with her off the lead she just naturally stuck by my side and I used the words with me when I want her to walk with me and then when I allow her to walk anywhere I say free so also when I take the lead off her I say free and I allow her to go and like enjoy the space however she wants it so she's like learnt what those words kind of mean it's a little bit hard for me to give a full example because she doesn't really pull on the lead that much anymore but hopefully you guys kind of get the idea of what I was demonstrating back there like like stopping in your track and then encouraging her to come back and traits are really great way to do that as you could see I was like pretending to give her a treat because she's so used to that from our training but that's kind of the general vibe that you do so anyway we're gonna walk up to the dog's back now and give Rea play hopefully there's some other dogs up there if not I will throw the ball for her sit stay [Music] oh that was a pretty good play huh bub she said happy here ya are he's usually pretty tired when she gets back from her afternoon walk so the rest of her nighttime routine is pretty chilled she has some dinner sometimes she gets some peanut butter for dessert and then usually she just hangs out with me for the night sleeping on the couch while I do some work or watch a TV show and then when I get up to go to bed she slowly makes her way off the couch and does her nighttime ways and has some water and then every night is exactly the same she waits on the fourth step of the stairs while I get my water and lock the doors and you know pack up downstairs we head upstairs and while I brush my teeth she also does the same thing every night she goes into Emma's room and sits on her fluffy rug for a few minutes before making her way into her bed it's so random that's so cute then I tuck her in with a blanket and give her a goodnight hug and that's pretty much her for the whole night all right so that's Ari's day-in-the-life I hope you guys enjoyed this fun kind of video if you have any more questions feel free to leave them down below and I thought I would end the video on this question that I missed before which is does Ari have any weird little quirks and she has so many but I'll just tell you a few of them one of them is that when she's getting off the couch she always must drag her back legs she'll like slowly walk off and then like drag the rest of her body and it's so cute another one is that every time we get to the park she will run and do like a nosedive into the ground it's so funny she doesn't when dogs are chasing her as well she was like randomly stopped and like nosedive into the grass she always lays in like a frog position so she loves to like leave her back legs out it doesn't look very comfortable but she's always doing it so she must love it and lastly she has the tongue of a lizard she honestly can't keep it in her mouth even when you saying no leaks she was still sneak in a little sneaky lick because she is just obsessed with licking that's the one thing about her that drives over and crazy oh yeah she's a really big wake up anyway I hope you guys enjoyed this video and I'll see you in another one soon bye you see [Music] [Music]
