A Brief Visit to Kitts KY (Harlan county)

hey everybody it's ignited coyote and this is a brief visit to kitts kentucky kitts kentucky or kitts creek kentucky is a small community in harlan county once centered around the coal mines the mines now long close but the community survives it was once close to the cloverfork river and a victim of the cloverfork river and several floods the river has since been diverted through the clover fork river diversion tunnels and it's a lot longer here but the community is here a few years ago several years ago they put the new road through this is the new road this is the old road over there so it looks quite a bit different than it did back in the day i would imagine let's take a look at kids kentucky we're driving into the small community of kitts usually uh when we do video i video misses cody drives but today this is coyote's video and then i'm driving don't know what just ended up like that that looks like a dead end on it you thought the road was closed oh excuse me no outlet okay and here get a get a nice little video of that sign there right there right there kids creek forestry products how about that okay i'm not new i'm new at this so yeah you're doing probably better than i do or at least as good as i do do like i do blame it on the equipment well i get new equipment i want to blame it on but you need some new stuff so i'll get a new camera this store uh well we'll stop doing a little on this store here yeah i don't guess we'll even have to get out that's pretty good man drive through videos plays on like this stop hey folks before we do anything else let me told by a viewer miss cutler that this store back in the day used to have a pinball machine and a jukebox and it was a big deal as you can see it's closed now sign in window says it's closed so there'll be no confusion about it being closed there's the direction we came in and out here will be the old mines let's take a look at the old man all right we're heading towards your old mines here you people remember anything about this anybody used to live here my wife said she'd bleed but it's probably camp houses along the tracks here that's gone is that true okay we'll stop here and i'll walk around do a little video all right this looks like the temple of gold mines boy look at this old cold tipple apparently the mines is somewhere back there in the mountains is that a is that an old boat how'd that get here i hear a thunder in the distance seems like every time i do a video there's thunder in the distance i believe they're still working something here looks like there's some logs piled up and i hear something running real close to me i wonder what they do maybe you know what they're doing tell me okay we're going to take a drive down here and turn around and head back out get that old temple there yeah i think they're still doing some kind of work down here maybe with those logs or something i'm sure somebody oh look at look at those old uh mine uh [Applause] oh look at here cloverfork coal company this must be the commissary folks [Applause] this must be the old commissary how's that thunder again boy this is something folks this is really something and did i show you this old truck look at this wow there's some more of the old tipple whoa there's a hole in the road [Music] you [Applause] look at these look at his old mine cars boy that's something and we're on the way out from the mines folks mrs coyote is driving now mrs coyote is stopping now for some reason unknown to me and here's the bait store again once again i have to uh thank a viewer of mine miss french french thing cutler sorry i have trouble that name french francine francis cutler i'm sorry i'm verbally challenged but uh she gave me a lot of good information on that store there so they had side so yeah that's turner hill and uh i think there's a turner family cemetery they pull on up here and turn the turner hill thing there i'm afraid of going up here here we won't go up there because i'm told it's hard to find a spot is there a word is there you'll grab that little piece okay mrs coyote's afraid of that narrow road so uh that's gonna happen your look at turner hill for today we may go up there and check out the cemetery yeah they get out of the way that dog looks pretty old he didn't live there he didn't live to get that old uh not knowing how to avoid uh cars so hey folks that's a brief visit to kids kentucky at least parts of kids kentucky and thank you that's francine cutler for helping me out with information on the store this video yeah we're going to yeah and if you sit here long enough it'll grow over you hey yeah i hear the story there's a traveling settlement yes i'm getting it right i forget to leave it uh whatever you want something a little bit anyway i hear the story of a traveling salesman and this is now right here used to be yeah that's the old road goes that way see there at least it looks like it was anyway i'll try one more time tell this story and there's one there's turner hill i do believe yeah that's it there it is we went up there my wife's scared of narrow roads and we'll we'll scalp that out maybe do a video up there later anyhow now i'm going to try this story one more time there was a story of a traveling salesman in this part of the country that pulled over the side of the road to go through some of his receipts and his cells and the kaju overgrew him and he never was seen again is this part of kids this year yeah yeah is that part of something so the viewers to tell us these folks will tell us there's your cujo find your obsessed with mrs cody and look at you there's this guy what now the census guy oh yeah i don't think they count coyotes so okay and that's a brief visit to kids kentucky this goes to harlan and that oh yeah kids kentucky is just a little bit past harlan on the way to everest and if you keep going past different you'll end up where the virginia line again yeah here we'll go ahead and show you just how close to harlan it is we'll take you for roger into the video mrs coyote don't get us killed see we're going back towards harlan now now folks somewhere down here i wouldn't know where used to be residents of a legendary harlan county bootlegger mike bailey i have no idea where she was at where she done business back in those days well i missed this yeah heard a lot about it in the television series on fx justified mags bennett was loosely based on mike bailey she lived to be very old and i think at the end of her life she gave her money to charity not religion as a people often does at the end of their life better late than never don't you think so mrs cody absolutely yeah so see we're already back in harlem so kitts is just right past heart yeah and uh yeah where is oh this road here going up here that used to be the old road how you got in marlin from this direction up there yeah so this is the new road and this is the back side of the heartland independence school so we're back in harlan i mean it's that close and this is the uh oh is that mccombs well that's the old car yeah rebuilt it to look like the other place yeah they tore down the old depot and put up another depot look just like it and that's a brief visit to kitts kentucky which i've already said two or three times but this time i mean it hey we love you folks we appreciate you come back and join us again we'll probably be just as disorganized and insane now go right here yeah i told you she may get us killed i don't like that okay that's scary yeah that's why i do the driving i don't like that at all that's a scary little spot lord bless her heart remember what they say about southern folks when they say bless somebody's heart don't you okay this time we're quitting we have to quit mrs
