hey guys it's Jamie with simply living it back here again today to bring you a quick kindergarten home school curriculum review so in our home school for kindergarten we have used a Becca and we have used it all the way through you guys so I have three boys I have eight in my oldest who is 11 Cooper is my middle child and he is nine and Brantley is my youngest and he is six and he started kindergarten this last year so he would have been fine he just turned six in January so I want to share this curriculum review with you for the Abeka homeschool program and I have used this clear through with all three of my boys I have started every one of them out with a Becca and it has been amazing the only thing I've done differently with my youngest is for his reading program we use all about reading and I have done that only because he is such an amazing reader you guys he is I don't know what the deal is I don't know if it's from listening to his older brothers that he has gotten more of a head start but I have had no trouble teaching this boy to read it has been so amazing and honestly such a blessing in our home because there have not been any struggles so far with him so I am so grateful it absolutely cannot complain about the lot so I'm gonna share with you guys the Abeka kindergarten curriculum for k5 and we're just gonna get straight to it so here's a little flip through I hope this is helpful to you guys and maybe let's you see a little more insight as to what the books look like if you are looking into a Becca for your home school alright so here is our number skills arithmetic for k5 and this is just kind of a little walkthrough I'm just doing a quick flip through for you guys to let you kind of see the numbers that they're working on so we're just working on simple time telling writing your numbers tracing your numbers some single-digit addition and as you can see my son likes to use the bright colorful smelly markers I don't know if you guys remember those from when you were a kid um but they love to use those when they're doing their school and especially my five-year-old I just let him roll with it whatever helps him get his schoolwork done I don't really care I'm not that particular as far as if he uses the marker a pencil he's doing his work so I cannot complain so here we are on lesson 106 and we're still going through single-digit addition and working through our numbers some are time telling counting money and this is where we are at in his math so less than 135 is where we will be beginning this coming week so we're working still on money dimes nickels pennies we haven't introduced quarters yet we've got some more addition down here time telling and that's kind of what we will be looking at guys what we're working through for the rest of this school year with my kindergartner and just for the sake of the video I'm gonna go ahead and go to the end of the book so you can see what we're working through towards the end of the year we alright so here it is so there are a hundred and seventy lessons in this case five workbook and this is how we will be ending the year out so that is our math for a Becca's k5 program now I'm gonna do just a quick flip through on the letters and sounds and like I said before you know we've got some fun little drawings and stuff here whatever keeps them entertained I'm not too particular guys this is kindergarten were working with so if he's happy doodling on his pages I am totally willing to let him doodle all right so this is how our year starts out we're working on vowels I'm just gonna flip through slow okay and then we're matching here match each picture to the value here in its name so more matching with our vowel sounds and then we've got blends that we're working on I'm just gonna skip a few pages here and the purpose of this video is just to give you guys a kind of a flip through of what this workbook entails for Abeka so some of the things depending on how our day is going if he wants to color and be super creative I let him if he's not feeling it for the day then I don't worry too much about it there is some coloring and stuff that goes on in the arithmetic so if he did enough of it in the arithmetic for the day I'm not gonna have him do it again in his letters and sounds so still here we are working on matching sounds matching blends and our vowels here we're working on the ending sound of the word so we go through working on beginning sounds on the end sounds of words like here we're working on the ending so they're to match which ending sound we have for each word pictured and I'm gonna go ahead and skip a few more pages here for you guys here we're just filling in the bubble under the word that complete sheet set completes each sentence so Bob is in the tint they're just gonna mark the bubble here we are matching words with the pictures that's just helping them out with spelling for sure and again the purpose of this is alright clearly you can see we're working on cursive here my youngest is just into writing his name in cursive I have not been teaching cursive in her home school but he has been super in tune to wanting to do that so I'm just gonna roll with it and teach him as we go since it is something he is interested in here we're just circling the word that name is each picture marking vowels we skip that here we're marking vowels and writing the vowel that you hear in each word I'm skipping a couple more so here we have special sounds so this is where those cards I was telling you guys about come into play so I have not been using the manipulatives with the kindergarten curriculum that Abeka provides I do have all of those manipulatives but like I said we have gotten by to this point without even touching them so here towards the middle and end of the workbook where we're getting into more special sounds I have pulled out those phonics blends cards just to go over them with him again if we happen to have a day where we're struggling remembering those special sounds and the blends here there was something apparently he wanted to cut out I like I said I'm pretty easy if you want to cut out a picture you've colored go for it that's part of the fun right okay so some fun drawings here this is where you're just spelling a word and then you're drawing so there's all kinds of coloring drawing filling in the blanks and this is where we left off so this will be the start of our week we're going to work on circling special sounds and marking the vowels and then reading the word here we are choosing the word that completes the completes each sentence and write it on the lines so that's something down here we have the words we're gonna pick which one write it in on the correct blank and I'm just gonna do a quick flip through through the rest of the book so you can kind of see where we will end the year for K 5 here was something he wanted to cut out too must have been a picture on the other side must have been a picture here somewhere that he wanted again it's kindergarten guys I'm - crazy so here we're at less than 140 - we're still working on oral phonics as far as where he's at with his reading where he's out with his special sounds here you know you're filling in the correct word for the blank the Sun is in the they find the correct word and I have my son read these out loud to me this is part of his reading I don't read them to him and that totally depends on your child's level but my kindergartener can read these on his own so I like to challenge him and let him read him out loud to me and so now we're getting to the end of the book still just to kind of the same spiral effect that you've seen throughout the whole book marking vowels working on your special sounds and your phonics blends here we're working on more blends so circle the special sound you hear in each word marking vowels that's that's really what we're going through with Abeka in kindergarten there are 170 lessons in this book and this will be the page that we will finish out the year with so I hope this is a helpful flip through for you guys as far as just be a Beca k5 curriculum in itself and the content that you'll be covering that was our k5 letters and sounds and this was the k5 number skills for kindergarten and now I'm going to grab those phonics cards that I was telling you guys about and show you what those are super quick to our basic phonics flashcards so the blends the special sounds all of that stuff that the letters and sounds book is referring to this is where they're being taught those so here you'll have your special sound for us it was easier to just put these in a three-ring binder and have all of our flashcards in one place the hair are the special sounds that letters and sounds workbook is referring to so there are quite a few of these special cards and you'll see on the front it'll have the special sound and then on the back this is upside down just because the way I'm doing it but they'll have other words that implement those special sounds or blends as well and your workbook will just slowly introduce these new special sounds as you work through for the year so I'm going to just flip through kind of briefly here and I am skipping quite a few guys of these just to show you if you're not familiar with the abet curriculum hopefully this will help give you a little bit of insight as to what it entails and it looks like there are a hundred and thirty two of these big phonics flashcard thanks for watching guys I hope this video was super helpful for you I know when I was a new homeschooling mom even still to this day there are so many resources out there and I want to get my hands on it I want to flip through it I want to look at it I want to see what we're going to be covering through the school year and that way I can better determine if it's the right fit for my child if I need to go up or down a grade level so I hope this helped you guys
