hi I'm Shelby and I'm Cole and this is our 420 square foot DIY tiny house why don't we show you guys around I actually decided to build on a 10 foot by 24 foot trailer it's like a 20 permit every time I go to my house which is nothing for that extra foot and a half of space I feel like a queen I ended up going with SNAP and lock steel siding just as an accent I have some cedar boards here it is one single glue lamb from this side to that side that is what was required legally in order to have a forefoot overhang it made it so that the door didn't have standard dimensions so I had to get a custom door and I even bought a cheap custom door and it's still so expensive so here we are and I would love to have this window open it's something that I decided not to do because of funds is a window worth four or five thousand dollars or is there better things that I can do with that for skirting I have was probably two inch foam board that I've just custom cut to fit and painted this is my mini split which is my heating and AC the mini split actually in order to be certified needed his own box over here we have a Nature's head toilet it comes with a fan that's like this big and that's expected to dry your solids out and it doesn't even do a quarter of a job so we installed a big daddy fan out here that's only been on for about a month and we have had no smell except out here which is fun back side of the house this is the exhaust I guess for my instant hot water heater washer dryer combo unit we have a heated hose it's safe most of the time unless it gets to be five degrees in which case I don't actually know where the freeze happened it's only our second winner so I'm sure by next winter we'll have it ironed out and that's about it for the outside why don't we head on chunk of money from my father's life insurance policy all these things go through your head you're like how do I best utilize this previously have worked almost six years of seasonal work and just had motorcycle for transportation so I was living off the back of a motorcycle and as much as the extreme minimalism allowed me to go absolutely anywhere you grow older and settling in on the idea of tiny houses like Roots but not quite because you can tear them up and Transplant if you want to I think we both picked small situations in the past I lived in a van for a while we both lived in trailers in Alaska for our Seasons we definitely didn't have to downsize actually the tiny house was like a huge upgrade on Space a huge upgrade looking back on it it was fun like I got to figure out a way to make every single thing I want fit in a small space the first thing that I did was build a small foam board model I had to see it in order to understand that that was going to work and then from this dollhouse and Drew it out on SketchUp and the company that I bought my trailer from they are like certified by Washington Labor and Industry so I sent them my drawing and they drew me up plans honestly just being a little person with two little hands in an arm span this big and like trying to hold up a 20-foot board you're like how am I how am I gonna fasten this board when Maya you had to get really creative I put a lot of weird things on ladders I did a lot of weird things on top of ladders there's about forty thousand dollars into the build but like I said the house is never done we still got things to build mirrors of course help open up small spaces found the world's biggest most gaudy mirror and absolutely had to have it this couch is a storage couch this is the first thing that I ever built I cut into a bunch of pallets for the outside a really great way to hide things that you don't use all the time but be used frequently enough to not crawl up into the Loft up here I have like summer shoes and a suitcase an extra guitar gets thrown up there just things that you don't want cluttering your space you just hide them in a loft also throw anything in a basket and it looks good the second I installed my ceiling boards I put a yoga swing up here and I just swung around my house kind of fell out of aerial yoga to be continued but for now these just hang here for no reason this is what my pal Dustin built and welded for me that support each step and each one of these is deeply bolted into a stud this is my little hobbit hole having such a Long Loft makes it feel like a bedroom and not just a bed it's not just a place to sleep like it's so cozy up here here's this closet that I love so much having an enclosed closet would just take up a lot of space so instead of a closet I have installed these little hooks that are all evenly spaced I have hid in the hooks with these beautiful Birch branches they serve no purpose except I don't know to look like a curtain rod I love old things like this basket I mean everything I've ever found is thrifted or antique stored some old luggage that I don't know you could use uses luggage but now it holds my my things and it's just nice to look at it's easily accessible and it really Cuts clutter right now where I am in the loft is on the overhang so underneath me is open air We have dealt with condensation issues on nights that it's really really cold we have the bed on some little tiny I don't even know what to call these but it creates a tiny tiny layer of air space and then every single morning I actually prop my bed up just to make sure that any moisture has airflow and can evaporate I love my Skylight it was sometimes Birds crawl on here and that's really fun because they're like three feet away from your face and they have no idea and you're just like you just wake up and you like experience magic in your first like few moments of waking up and this is my beloved rooftop deck enjoy having company it's really such an intimate time because you're in the Treetops this desk is probably only two or three months old so this space was empty for a year and a half along with the desk comes the chair of my dreams this is called a Soul seat icaria designs I'm not exactly sure how to pronounce it but it's a squatting chair I can sit for hours and hours at a time and my back feels phenomenal after hours another project that has taken literally two years since I moved in I had this little white fridge and it just didn't fit it didn't work so this I actually took cosplay foam and I cut it and I burned designs into it so far so good I have my pull out Pantry here which has so much space my 10 foot wide by four and a half foot bathroom which I just think is comical I got a four and a half foot bathroom hidden behind my jackets is my instant hot water heater this will be hidden better by the closet that I'm going to build at some point a decision I'm still so happy about is my little Splendid washer dryer combo unit it has a pretty small drum but I don't have to go do a laundromat and I'm just so grateful for not to go to a laundromat every time you need to do laundry the idea of composting toilet is awesome separates the liquids from the solids runs the fan through the solids at all times to hopefully ideally dry them out if that doesn't happen it gets stinky so install a bigger fan on your Nature's head I had a lot of fun painting my bathroom but I knew that I wanted stars in the night sky but this drippy effect kind of created itself there's also like glitter in the paint glitter bombed my walls this I made I went to Walmart bought a full length mirror it's like six dollars and I just built a little wooden frame for it got these little lights and I can put on my makeup I can see everything this I also built and so this whole doll my makeup one of my first ceramic face sculpts so I told some makeup brushes and toothpaste toothbrushes I am super super pleased with the design of the kitchen I have a Italian made propane range when we're not using it get this lovely Ikea giant cutting board it just goes over it can serve as extra counter space when I'm cooking here I have all of my spices directly in front of me saw the idea online that they were very expensive I didn't actually understand why they were so expensive and then I made them on my own and I realized that every single jar is a dollar and then a magnet to hold it on there is like a two dollar magnet at least so it turns out it's a very expensive spice rack food storage again with aesthetic I could have a bunch of boxes and bags out here and it would just look and feel cluttered I utilized my one window with light as best as I could by hanging some some shelves I feel very proud like everything on here I made so then I would so recommend in the tiny house is a huge sink like it's just important this thing's so big it doesn't throw off the feel of the house it's got this little roll out guy that sits on a lip and this is like when we do our dishes usually few enough that we just dry them on here so it doesn't take up any counter space you don't have to worry about water like it all just drips right in there this thing's awesome also when I'm watering my plants like most of them don't have like saucers to catch the water so I'll just put them all on here and just like give them a bath like a little bath time plant bath time so this thing's a lifesaver I mean even if you don't have a sink with one of these they sell them when I build the house I had this idea in my young 24 year old mine that like this would be my house forever that like if I'm gonna do this it's going to be a long investment and now after just two years being in the house I'm not going to be in a tiny house forever however because I did most of the labor myself I'm gonna be able to sell this thing for more than it costs to build it and at one point that could be a great down payment on a house or maybe I decide to live on a boat I don't know you know like whatever's next this house is still going to be a step to get there
