word that we can come boldly to the throne of throne of grace we thank you we are coming now father asking you you already know everything but we asking you how cos you said we ought to seek you ask you search for you look for your hope in you and we thank you for that now lord move all over this land all over this land yes there are spirits of grief but you are the god of all comfort you are average your holy genre you are i was your host in the sea you are with jehovah's second name you are with your holy ma you are how was was jehovah somebody you are what jehovah's above and we praise to go and read the entire chapter but 9 through 17 i know we look in the world we see a lot that's going on but we need to hold on to god like never before looks like it's a lot going on out there in the world stay with jesus first john chapter 2 verses 9 through 17 and will read 15-17 together first john chapter 2 we'll read the first the first few verses alternately and then we'll read 15-17 together if you have a say amen amen and the word reads he that saith he is in the light and hateth his brother is in darkness even until now but he that hateth his brother is in darkness and walketh in darkness and knoweth not whither he goeth because that darkness had blinded his eyes i write unto you fathers because ye have known him that is from the beginning i write unto you young men because ye have overcome the wicked one i write unto you little children because ye have known the father verse 14. with one unified strong voice verses 15 through 17 read love not the world neither the yesterday had to do the eulogy for that funeral on yesterday and uh amen our very own we have the lord has blessed us with so many wonderful preachers here at faith apostolic church amen amen so we are blessed beyond measure amen and at this time would you stand to your feet as we are about to hear the word of the lord amen from a fine young man who is faithful dutiful amen he the things they do behind the scenes amen you would not believe all the things they do and he's an assistant principal at his school and we're so honored today to have and bring to the to the to the podium at this time our very own minister eldridge bennett stephen [Applause] praise the lord everyone can we shout unto god with a voice of triumph in this house come on let's do that was a practice round let's try one more time shout out to god with a voice of triumph in the house today glory to god glory to god we just saw a miracle happen right here god was strengthening our first lady right before eyes don't tell me that god can't do it because he's doing it right now hallelujah glory to god that ought to be encouragement for somebody's situation let's turn to the word of the lord i don't want to be before you alone we thank god we thank god we thank god luke chapter 4. [Music] we'll look at a couple verses in luke chapter 4 very familiar passage of scripture i'm going to start with that first verse of luke chapter 4. i'm going to find this accounting mark and in matthew but we're going to look at luke's account this morning verse 1 of that fourth chapter and we're going to skip and jesus being full of the holy ghost returned from jordan and was led by the spirit into the wilderness skip to verse 14 and jesus returned in the power of the spirit into galilee lord we thank you and we bless you we honor you for your worth of all praise now lord speak to us the words of life oh god we pray now that you will get the glory we honor you and we bless you now in jesus name amen as you have your seats i would like to speak from the main topic of good news in the wilderness and the sub-topic of it's time for a comeback uh y'all know i like to tell stories i'm going to tell one real quick when i was a kid i was a huge wrestling fan i don't know if anybody else watched wrestling but my favorite wrestler growing up was hulk hogan amen during my childhood you couldn't convince me that wrestling was not real most of all the matches that i saw with him wrestling he would come out all excited and yelling and hyped up he would he would rip his shirt off you know the hoaxer would do that and and start wrestling usually his matches would start by him winning and winning but then the opponent would gain some type of advantage this advantage would then turn the tide of the match and the hulkster would get hurt and get beaten up but there was a point in every match that hulk hogan if you're a wrestling fan you know what i'm about to say we're beginning to hook up the opponent would continue to throw punches punch after punch attempt move after move but every move was thwarted because the holster had tapped into a power that was going to push him to the next level i can only imagine what was going on through his mind as a child maybe he was saying enough is enough i've had it up to here i'm not going to let this opponent just beat me up any longer and i've got good news for us today enough is enough we can't just allow the devil to victimize us and make us pitiful creatures that are pathetic i vividly remember that the opponent would not stop fighting hulk hogan is not that the enemy will stop being the enemy it's just that i've got a revelation that's given me my confidence to fight back now i want to say to someone it's time for a comeback god has a blessing another level that he wants to release to you but many times that blessing is on the other side of a test on the other side of some type of circumstance it's in an attempt to move you to spiritual perfection or what the bible calls sanctification it is in this process of progressive sanctification that the child of god experiences spiritual crisis spiritual battles and even testing one must understand that serving god has levels to him it is the lord's desire that we bear fruit bear more fruit and bear much fruit first peter 1 6-7 says wherein ye greatly rejoice though now for a season if need be ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations that the trial of your faith being much more precious than that of gold that perishes though it be tried with fire be found unto praise and honor and glory at the appearing of jesus christ you got to go through some things in order to grow with god the world's influences have to become smaller and smaller and all god needs is a heart and soul that is willing to be conformed and consistently yield to his will our prayer and our aim should be that we are daily conforming to the image of christ jesus one surefire way to become more christ-like is to experience hardness jesus provides us with a clear example what it looks like to go through the process of being tempted and tried since we are not above our lord and master we should be expecting nothing less in our lives it is here in our text in verse 1 that we see jesus full of the holy ghost returning from jordan jesus was led by the spirit into the wilderness you must understand that the wilderness is necessary repeat after me the wilderness is necessary we should never allow the prospect of going through to dissuade us from the journey second timothy 3 and 12 says yea and all that shall live godly in christ jesus will suffer persecution wilderness wilderness moments are meant to bring out the real you you won't realize the real you just shouting you won't realize the real you by dancing you need to be delivered you won't realize the real you uh while you're shouting and you're still shackled you have to have a trying experience the wilderness can yield some of the most crucial moments of the believer's life the wilderness was never meant to crush you but to align you it is where god removes the hustle and the bustle of everyday life and gets you alone with him three things i would like to mention about the wilderness number one the wilderness is god designed repeat after me the wilderness is god design you remember reading in the book of job job was from the land of us job was perfect and upright feared god and eschewed evil the sons of god and satan himself came and presented themselves to god saying the only reason why job serves you is because you have a hedge of protection around them if you but just move that hedge he'll curse you to your face uh god with his permission god gave the enemy a chance at job he destroyed job's life he tried to destroy his body oh but job can't you hear him say in the midst of his affliction for i know that my redeemer lives and he shall stand in the latter day upon the earth and though after my skin worth destroy this body yet in my flesh shall i see god that's a wild in this moment uh not only is the wilderness god designed but say this after me the wilderness is god approved said one more time the wilderness is god approved you remember reading in the story of david in first samuel saul was king in name only over israel but saul disobeyed god and refused to carry out orders like he was given god gave samuel the charge to go to jesse's house and anoint one of his boys to be the next king you know the story that that son was david god used david eventually to fight the giant goliath and to chase the philistine army the bible says that an evil spirit from god came upon saul for the next several years david would be on the run from saul david hid in caves pretended to be mad directed a ban of men all while he was on the run from song saul was attempting to take the life of david through this time huh oh this is a wilderness moment huh can you imagine david anointed to be king but on the run from the current king that my friend is a wilderness experience huh but those sequence of events were approved of god and david would eventually become king of united israel third thing i want to tell you about the wilderness uh repeat after me the wilderness is god timed again the wilderness is god-timed you remember reading in the book of first kings about the story of elijah elijah was a prophet of the lord during the days in the reign of king ahab where the lord came to elijah there shall be no dew or rain upon the earth according these years but according to my word the lord designed it so that a raven would bring elijah food and bread twice a day elijah was to drink water from the brook cherith after the brook ran out because of the drought god told elijah to go down to zarephath and be fed by the widow the widow woman that was there huh elijah the woman the widow woman and the widow's son drew from a barrel of meal that did not run out the woman's son dies one day and god answers the prayers of elijah and resurrects the son the bible says that in the third year that the word of the lord came to elijah saying go show thyself to ahab and i will send rain upon the earth after ahab hears the message from elijah elijah challenges his false prophets by saying he tells the false prophets let's have a challenge huh you choose a bullock and i'll choose a bullock huh cut it into pieces and lay it upon wood and don't put any fire underneath it and who's ever god answers by fire that will be the real god huh well they said let's do it the prophets of baal dress that sacrifice and call on their gods elijah mocked them because they had no success he said maybe he's on a far away journey huh call a little louder huh the prophets of baal began to cut themselves up the prophets of baal began to act crazy all of a sudden trying to reach their god but it was of no success they did this for several hours uh your bible says when it was time for the evening sacrifice that elijah said let me take over now elijah said let me call her elijah dressed the sacrifice up elijah put the bullock upon the altar elijah poured four barrels upon the water of water upon the sacrifice do it again he drenched the sacrifice up knowing that it would be too hard for a man to light this thing huh all the water filled the trenches that were running huh but oh can't you see a lie something standing in confidence before his god and before these false prophets uh i can see elijah as he turns and lifts his head to heaven and say oh lord huh you've told me to do this huh you told me to be a prophet huh you gave me instructions and i'm going to stand up on this word that you've given me huh now oh god send fire from heaven huh can i pause real quick this is not a part of my notes but i'm gonna say it anyway huh we ought to just take a second real quick and look up towards heaven and say lord sitting down the fire burn it up lord everything that's not like you burn it up lord burn up that pride huh burn up that ridiculousness burn up that lust burn up those eyes burn up that mischievousness huh burn up that lion huh burn up that false flame burn it well [Applause] oh god [Applause] [Music] well you know what happened next huh as he was standing there praying to god it's something about praying to god and he answers your prayers right then and then oh god began to send fire from heaven or burned up the sacrifice burn up the wood lapped up the water and then the prophets of baal they had to be ashamed i don't even know why they wouldn't want to try it anyway they ought to know that their god wasn't real it wasn't going to work but they tried it anyways huh but the our god answered by fire and consumed the sacrifice elijah then says we're going to kill these prophets oh can i tell you you got to kill those false things in your life elijah then says that i hear the sound sounds like the abundance of rain and not only rains but it pours elijah was on such a spiritual high that he outran ahab's chariot to jezreel my point in saying all of that is that elijah was operating under the power of the spirit of god he was declaring the word of the lord but jezebel sends one message to him after all that he's experienced with god and seen him work jezebel sends a message to him saying i'm going to kill you elijah goes into a tailspin a state of mental depression a mental wilderness if you will trying to pick up the pieces he thinks he's the only person who remains to worship the one true and living god i'm so glad that in the wilderness god can still send a small voice and say i have left me a remnant of seven thousand in israel who have not bowed their need to bail [Applause] that should be good news for someone that no matter what stage of the wilderness you're in god has it set up to be designed approved and timed you have to understand that the wilderness is a dry rough or too rocky to be cultivated place it is not suitable for farming but it was suitable for grazing in other words because the terrain of the wilderness was so bad you shouldn't expect to farm there please understand that if you are a farmer you are expecting to stay in that spot of land for a long time but because the wilderness you can't farm there god never intended for you to stay in the wilderness alone [Applause] but thanks be under god that the wilderness is suitable for grazing that means that there are pockets of provisions already made available by god meaning that while you're in your wilderness he still will meet every one of your needs [Music] good god of mine [Applause] the wilderness was never designed to be permanent but the promise was designed to be permanent [Applause] let's go back to our tech notice jesus was led by the same spirit that filled him you see in chapter 3 jesus steps on the scene john the baptist was prophesying about jesus and his coming he said saying unto them all i indeed baptize you with water but one mightier than i cometh the latch of whose shoes i am not worthy to unloose he shall baptize you with the holy ghost and with fire whose fan is in his hand and he will thoroughly purge his floor and will gather the wheat into his garden but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable not only did he prophesy about the lamb of god but jesus was baptized by john in order to fulfill all righteousness the bible says that a dove descended upon him in bodily form and the voice declared this is my beloved son not only that but the lineage of jesus is this chapter 3 again was given through joseph's side all the way back to adam most individuals would say look at my pedigree that's enough for me to be excused from a wilderness experience but there's a point when you must realize that god is more interested in your character than he is about your stock uh god is more interested in your integrity than you being just happy all the days of your life huh god is more interested in what you how you go through your situation than what folks say about you in your situation please realize that god gave you the holy ghost to win not to whine your faith has to be tested in order to see if it's real or has any value no wonder why the hebrew writer says for we have not a high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities but was in all points tempted like we are with yet without sin now here's our charge let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help us in the time of need these are some needed times and i need some help is there somebody in the house that can testify i'm living in some needy times and i need to save up [Music] [Applause] repeat after me while going through you have to make up your mind as in luke 4 we see jesus fool and jesus laying the only way you can be successful in the wilderness is to be full of the holy ghost but while in the desert you don't just expect to be left alone look at how the enemy approached jesus through the lust of the eyes the lust of the flesh and the pride of life the temptation you you know these will go through them quickly the first one is thou be the son of god he's questioning the enemy is questioning the validity and identity of jesus command that this stone be made bread have to understand that the devil tempted the son of god he tries to take advantage of you in your most vulnerable moments but jesus response is classic jesus denies all the desires and pleasures of the flesh for us to be an example it is written that man shall not live by bread alone but by every word good god almighty of god huh ah doesn't the enemy know bread doesn't grow in the desert the bible never commanded us to make bread in the desert huh how do you tempt the one who rained down manna in the wilderness huh how do you tempt the bread of life with bread huh i am the bread of life how are you going to tempt me with bread huh that's what i am i don't need no bread huh i'm so i'm thinking about the passage where jesus says i have meat that you don't even know about [Applause] [Music] the devil wanted to instill doubt into the mind of jesus but we must realize that jesus as a hundred percent man exhibited human frailty but as a hundred percent god he didn't have a fallen nature to give into the second temptation took jesus into a high mountain huh you got to be careful about all these promotions that folks are getting because it might be from to jesus to jesus that's a word for another time took jesus into a high mountain showed him all the kingdoms of the world and told jesus to worship him he's coming the enemy's coming at you faith he's coming at you with high hopes of you falling low huh he wants to throw you off but jesus response he comes back again and says get thee behind me satan for it is written thou shalt serve the lord thy god and him only shalt thou serve huh oh saints are the most high god we don't have time to go back and forth with the enemy huh you got to shut him down shut him down anytime you try to operate huh out of the realm of reasoning with the enemy huh you'll lose every time but when you try to operate out of the realm of faith you'll be victorious every time oh god huh oh what we must be careful about huh and what this particular temptation shows us is that making a move out of season can be costly the enemy has a tendency to try and lay claim to things that really don't belong to him in the first place it is in this third temptation that he took jesus to the pinnacle of the temple you know the temple is the holy place huh you know the devil comes to church i'll say that again huh the devil comes to church and has a good looking suit and dress onto [Applause] if thou be the son of god cast thyself down if you be a saint why don't we just talk about the pastor a little bit y'all got quiet on me now let's talk about the programming of the church let's do it our way if if you be a saint of the most high god that's how the enemy will come after you he took him to a pinnacle of the temple if thou be the son of god cast thyself down from hence and the angels will bear thee up huh oh jesus's response thou shall not tempt the lord thy god you have to watch and be careful of how the enemy uses the word of god he takes that particular passage out of psalm 91 that means that the enemy knows how to use the word but he flips it and twists it and puts sprinkles and icing on it to make it more palatable before he sends the poison down your throat [Applause] he tries to use it out of context just like he did with eve but i'm so glad later on in this same book that jesus would stand and say that the law the psalms and the prophets are written about me huh you can't use my word against me because i am i am how you gonna use me against me and i'm what you saying is me [Applause] [Music] how the enemy gonna use the word against you huh god almighty he's speaking the word huh i'm going to accept what god says out of his mouth do you see jesus how jesus's mind was made up i'm almost through you have to fight the devil with the word the devil knows what's in us and knows how to push our buttons and how to get a reaction out of us but i got good news we got to fight i'm gonna say it again to this side huh i got good news to my left side we gotta fight you wanna fight i gotta fight can i tell you this faith without a fight is a fantasy [Applause] if you're gonna have faith in the lord jesus you're gonna have to fight it reminds me of the story of the three hebrew boys that refused to bow down at the sound of the music their minds were made up before it didn't matter if they were in jerusalem or babylon my mind is made up that i will not bow throw me in the fire you cannot intimidate me heat it up seven times like none other you still cannot intimidate me my god not only can be a liberator in the fire but he can be an air conditioner in the fire do you remember reading in esther when haman made the plot against all the jews huh mordecai told esther you've been made queen for such a time as this esther said i'm going to king a hazarist to tell him about the plot that haman has against the jews and if i perish i perish i'm here to let somebody know huh that you've got to adopt the mindset huh that i'm going to fight her the devil on every hand huh i'm tired of how he's messing with my community i'm tired of how he's messing with my children huh i'm tired of how he's messing with my spouse i'm tired of how he's messing with my family huh i'm tired of how he's trying to get up in my finances i'm tired of demons thinking that they run the place huh but i got a fight on my hands i'm ready to fight i've been down here in the wilderness for the last how many years the last how many months i've been in the wilderness huh but i got good news from the wilderness what's the good news from the wilderness the good news is it's time for a comeback look at somebody and say neighbor i know you've been fighting her i know you've been fighting huh i know your feet huh are getting a little weaker but i got good news for you the lord just said huh it's time for a comeback look at verse 14 14 says he says in verse 14 and jesus returned in the power of the spirit huh i'm here to let you know how you can't return in your own thinking huh you can't return in your own persuasion huh but you got to return and the power of the holy ghost is there's somebody up that wants to tap into a place called the holy ghost call the holy ghost i got rivers of living water huh flowing out of me i've got rivers that will cover up the dry places in my life i'm not afraid of the enemy no more i'm not tucking my tail and running no more i hear the words say huh that the righteous are as bold as lions i dare somebody huh to get your aurora back huh for so long huh you've been a meagle huh a mediocre house cat but god says huh you are a lion huh now get your roar back up get your roar back up don't just look at me huh but get your roar back up tell that enemy huh tell that devil huh i'm back here not because it's me but greater is he that's in me than he that's in the world in all these things we are more than conquerors what shall have separated me from the love of christ jesus not death not life not peril not famine not disease i got good news from the wilderness that i'm back you didn't see me for a while you haven't seen me her post in a while but you haven't seen me huh like you wanted to see me huh but i still got some good news huh that even though i was in the wilderness i still had the victory huh is there anybody that has victory in jesus victory in jesus message forever he bought me and salted me with his redeeming blood he loved me here i knew him huh oh i got victory i got victory victory in my job i got a victory at my household i got victory in my mind that victory may not look like it but i got that [Music] [Applause] [Music] i'm through i don't wanna be long i wasn't gonna be long i'm not coming out this wilderness just any old type of way 14 says and jesus returned in to power we don't have to walk around here scared and timid because somebody's trying to push their social agenda out there in the streets we don't have to be afraid of these street killings and stuff we serve god and his name is jesus [Applause] [Music] that's all i got but the lord impressed this upon me so much pastor that i don't have to go through this wilderness and come out the same way i've got good news in the wilderness let not your heart be troubled even in the wilderness the lord is my shepherd and i shall not even in the wilderness [Applause] the name of the lord is a strong tower even the endo got good news in the wilderness good news church 2020 last 18 months have been tough for everyone but it's time for a comeback now on this rock i build my church up on this rock i build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it they may come up but they're not going to win against it [Music] there's a comeback in the house you don't have to be intimidated you don't have to be scared we come come on you don't have to be frightened [Music] confused all out of sorts [Music] the lord has given us the victory by christ jesus church of the living god you might be in a wilderness moment now and you need some strength you need someone to pray with you and pray for you we invite you to to meet us at the altar now don't go through this wilderness moment getting beat upside to head by the devil when god has given us the victory to win [Music] hallelujah [Music] god has given us the victory not that doctor report [Music] not that bank statement god has given us the victory and we stand on blessed assurance knowing that our god is faithful to his children hallelujah thank god we bless god hallelujah [Music] hallelujah come on church [Music] formed against me shall prosper [Music] it won't work no more [Music] it's time for come back the word was outstanding today broke down to us so we can understand the plan of god for our lives [Music] he gave us [Music] many scenarios in the bible different things that occurred throughout the scripture good news is that we win jesus is our victory and as long as we're in him we win i want to just say to somebody who's listening to me right now if you are not in the ark of safety you're living beneath your privilege jesus is soon to come i said jesus is soon to come [Music] you must be in him the bible speaks about the dead in christ the bible says that we are to walk in christ if we're going to be victorious we must be in christ how do you get in him you must repent you must be baptized in jesus name for that is the only name that remits sin and then you must have the power of the holy ghost on the inside jesus will pour that into you all you have to do is say i want it i want it and if you say i want him amen that's the first thought of believing scripture that tells us and some people use it as their salvation scripture it says that all you have to do is believe that is true that's what you start believing but if you believe then do what he says he's saying to you right now come unto me all who labored a heavy laden i'll give you rest rest is available for the non-believer for the unbeliever come come come come come don't let it be said too late we're at the close of the day jesus could come any moment and say come my people could i tell you the scripture said he knows those that are he is you must be his if you're going to go back with him you must be his [Music] how do i become his i have to obey his word he's calling you today no weapon formed against you [Music] shall prosper it won't know [Music] come on don't let it be said too late he's still calling you today he's still calling you today [Music] you're talking about all the things that are happening and if you look around you right now the world is in chaos the world is in chaos wars rumors of wars nations against nations governments against governments corona different variances but out of all the things that are happening the church is secure let me say i said the church is secure and as long as you stay on board stay in the house stay in the house hallelujah amen we win god bless you let's thank god everybody for the word come
