what's up everybody or graphics in here again so in this video tutorial I'm gonna go through 9 tips in the Adobe Illustrator that are going to boost your workflow speed and help you understand better the software Adobe Illustrator is a powerful tool to create simple 2d diagrams or even some complex axonometric Vil's those were some references that I took from Pinterest and they could all be done using Photoshop I'm not here to say which software is better but you should consider using both of them as a part of your workflow process especially for those type of diagrams that combine line word with soft shadows so from my experience the best workflow is to keep them both open at the same time and using the file from illustrator you can place it linked into Photoshop to have a real-time update between both software's so this was just an introduction for those of you that didn't know the capabilities of illustrator especially for architects and architects students and if your Photoshop only type of person I hope you consider learning this amazing software so without further ado let's go to the 9 illustrator tips that every architect must know so the first tip is layout to speed up your workflow this is the basic and essential layout that comes with a software it has the the basic windows and everything is kind of closed but I definitely recommend to open and expand all the tabs that you might need I'm gonna show you the ones that I use and why it is effective to leave them open there's the layer tab you can go to window layers and then just drag and snap it to one side then there's the window stroke this one is really important to first changes the line width and some other options such as dashed lines then there's the align tab which window align it also comes with the Pathfinder that will let you add subtract and intersect surfaces just put it a below the stroke table then the last one there is the swatches tab you can either put on the right side or on the left side then for each use all the capabilities of those tabs you must go to that little icon and click show option and what that will do is show the dashed line options and some extra align options as well then finally go ahead and delete all the default swatches that came with the with a file and you're done with the layout now for the second tab layers you must use the double Billis trader in an efficient way and you cannot do that with our layers as soon as you export from sketchup for your preferred bin software into a PDF or vector-based file and that you organize the elements into separate layers so you can fast select the objects within that layer using that little square on the right side of the layer tab just like this and it works with all the layers that contains objects then also talking about layers you have to use a little lock on the layers tab to easily set the the layers that you were gonna work at the moment I usually leave them all locked except the one that I'm currently working and that will allow me to do those type of selections without worrying about the rest of the file using the shortcut alt you can lock them all except the one that are your clicking and that will work also with the visibility option as well just hold alt and single click with the left button into disability option in that layer and click again without you revert it back to their original state this technique will allow you to fast select several objects and it did them at once isolating them from the rest of the elements also in the layers tab you can shown the image what's in front or behind simply by change the layer orders now for the third tab isolating objects you can use the method that I've shown you before with the layer tabs or you can simply double click in an object either a group or a single object to enter in its isolation mode for example imagine I'm going to change this red box that I'm selecting right now I'm gonna change it to it hits the ground floor the best work around here is to enter in its isolation mode and using the fourth tip which is the direct selection tool we're gonna select just the bottom part of the red box so we can stretch it and make that happen that will allow you not to vertical distort some object but simply to exchange some shapes that you've previously created then for our fifth tip we're going to use transparent masks you put the red box within the first floor so go to transparency and make masks well that will do is clip everything so go ahead and check the clip box and we're gonna enter on the mask canvas simply by clicking on a white square that just showed up inside this place we're gonna draw a shape a black filled shape to hide the parts that we don't want to show from that red box just like so and make sure to pick the 100% black to do that and also uncheck the inverted mask you can always come back and fix any mistakes that you have probably made you can add point subtract just like any regular shape within ulis traitor when stirred then make sure to click on the other white rectangle to go back to editing just a quick note you can also use the last two to do the exact same stuff that we did just before and then click on the track selection to to drag it down I'm gonna go ahead and individually change the color from this object but using the tip number six I'm gonna show you what turn the tip way to do that we're gonna use the recolor artwork too so go ahead and select everything from your file and just like that and go to edit edit colors recall our artwork you can simply click on that little square right there and that will change the color that you picked from your whole file I always recommend to use a color scheme that will make sure the colors blend right with each other I'm using this one now for the tip number seven I'm gonna show you a method you first select any shape with the specific setting for example let's select this grass that is currently in the base layer so helps you go to select the same and hit fill color and with that technique you can select objects that have similar settings you put in the same layer this type of selection can also be done using the magic wand the shortcut is why you can double click on the two and this tab will pop open you can then select the settings you make your selection well we can now go to tip number eight that is releasing compound paths after you export from Sketchup or any 3d or being software into a PDF or a vector shape file usually after you export and open that - illustrator you cannot select in singular elements in this in this file so we're gonna have to invert it everything to do that we're gonna go to object compound path and release then you're gonna right-click it and select ungroup or you can go to object and there's a group option right there you might have to use that several times release compound path but then there you have it you can now simply select singular element single single lines or fields to individually edit them and then finally make those selections that I thought and organize your file into layers now last but not least we're gonna go to or tip number nine we're gonna copy these three to use an example you can go to edit copy and edit paste or ctrl-c ctrl-v we're gonna use this spare piece of grass here to demonstrate that so the ninth tab is called control D it's probably the most used shortcut for me at a simple it repeats the last command that you have used with your tree selected simply hit alt and you're gonna see that your aerial duplicates then holding the Alt key you can drag the tree and release it you're gonna see that your tree has duplicated and now hit control D as many times as you want you see the slice operation repeats infinitely oh and just one final tip if have that many trees side by side make sure to scale them and reflect them to have that organic look because all the trees usually don't look the same right and that's a wrap those were the nine tips for illustrator especially for the daily architect in our text students workflow if you have used illustrator for some time now you probably already knew some of those tips and if you have any any new tips that you want to add to this list please go ahead and comment below so other people can can enjoy that too alright let me know what
