Seniors enjoy the comfort safety and practicality
of SUVs just like anyone else but some SUVs may uniquely appeal to seniors more than others in
today's video we're going to list in no particular order 9 and a half SUVs that we think seniors
will love. Let's get started! As we age our needs often change and that includes the type of car
we drive if you're a senior citizen looking for a reliable, comfortable, and safe SUV that's also
kind of fun, then the Toyota RAV4 might just be the perfect fit for you! Many seniors love to travel so
the RAV4 spacious cargo area is a major plus, not to mention that it helps with transporting
groceries, mobility aides and other items. Easily accessing the cargo area is also important
which is also why the RAV4 is appealing as the rear lift gate is also easy to open and close. To
many older drivers safety is a top priority which makes the RAV4 even more appealing as it comes
with a suite of advanced safety features including Lane Departure Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking,
and Adaptive Cruise Control. These features help ensure a safe and stress-free driving experience.
Beyond safety technologies the RAV4 rates well in crash test ratings securing a 'Top Safety Pick'
designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Of course, seniors also care about
fuel efficiency as they oftentimes live on a fixed income and the RAV4 is strong there too coming
in with average fuel economy ratings of up to 30 miles per gallon (7.8 L/100 km) on the traditional gas only
model and up to 40 miles per gallon (5.8 L/100km) on the hybrid. All of this plus the reliability of
a Toyota for a starting price under $30,000 is a package
that is hard to beat for seniors. Coming in hot at number 2, we have the second
most popular compact SUV in the country...the Honda CR-V. This SUV has everything seniors need for
a comfortable and enjoyable ride. First, push button start is standard across all trim levels
which is convenient for drivers with reduced hand strength. Second, as seniors sometimes struggle
with staying warm the CR-V comes standard with heated front seats on all models other than the
base LX trim level. CR-V owners will also enjoy the spacious interior that provides ample room for
passengers and cargo, but what really sets the CR-V apart for seniors is its ease of use with a low
step in height and comfortable seating position. Getting in out of the CR-V is a breeze plus large
windows give the driver excellent visibility and virtually every advanced safety feature on the CR-V
comes standard instead as an upgrade. And let's not forget about the impressive fuel economy which
mirrors that of the RAV4 with up to an average of 30 miles per gallon (7.8 L/100 km) on the gasoline model and up
to 40 miles per gallon (5.8 L/100km) with the hybrid. So whether you're running errands around town or hitting
the open road, the CR-V is an SUV that seniors will likely just love and with a starting price in the
mid-$28,000 range...it's also a bargain. When it comes to finding the perfect car for
seniors, there are a few things that are essential: comfort, safety and affordability. The next SUV
on our list, the Hyundai Tucson, checks all of these boxes and more. The Tucson's spacious interior
is designed with comfort in mind making it the perfect choice for quick errands and long road
trips. Push button start and heated front seats are standard features on all models other than the
base XE trim level. Much like with the Honda CR-V the Tucson includes nearly every advanced safety
feature as standard on all trim levels and also secured the highest rating of 'Top Safety Pick Plus'
from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Unlike the CR-V and the RAV4, the Tucson isn't quite
as fuel efficient coming in at a couple miles per gallon less in both the gas only model and hybrid.
On the upside, however, the Tucson offers a vastly superior warranty than the CR-V and RAV4 with a
five-year or 60,000 mile limited warranty compared to just a three years on the CR-V and RAV4 as well
as offering free maintenance for the first 3 years or 36,000 miles...all for a price under $27,000. If you are a senior looking for a safe, reliable and comfortable SUV then look
no further than the next SUV on our list...the Subaru Forester. This car has everything you need
from a comfortable interior to impressive fuel economy which comes in at as high as 33 miles per
gallon (7.1 L/100km) on the highway and 26 (9.0) in the city. You'll be able to save money on gas while driving in style
without constantly stopping to refuel, but it's not just us that's fond of the Forester as Consumer
Reports is also a big fan as well writing that the Forester offers a "comfortable and compliant ride",
"excellent outward visibility" and "class leading safety scores". In fact, the Forester landed a 'Top
Safety Pick' designation from the IIHS and comes loaded with advanced safety technologies as
part of its Eyesight Driver Assist Technology Suite, not to mention standard all-wheel drive (AWD)
which seniors that live in snowy climates are sure to appreciate. Plus, the Forester has plenty
of room for your passengers and cargo, making it perfect for road trips grocery runs or whatever
adventure comes your way. And with a starting price of just $26,495, it's just plain affordable. Next on the list for seniors is a popular SUV
with the younger generation, but honestly it has a lot to offer older drivers as well...the
Mazda CX-5. First of all, this SUV is a real beauty. It's sleek design combined with impressive
features make it stand out but what makes the CX-5 special for seniors? Well, seniors tend to want
comfortable vehicles with good driver visibility and easy access and the Mazda CX-5 delivers on
all fronts with a spacious, easy to access cabin that provides excellent driver visibility as well
as comfortable seats and an overall quiet ride. In fact, the cabin of the CX-5 is so nice that
it borders on luxurious but there's more for seniors to like as the CX-5 is also relatively
fuel efficient with an estimated 24 miles per gallon (9.8 L/100km) in the city and 30 (7.8) on the highway which
means you get to keep more of your money instead of giving it to the oil companies. Now let's talk
safety, the IIHS rated the Mazda CX-5 as a 'Top Safety Pick', the second highest rating possible.
This coupled with standard all-wheel drive (AWD) and plenty of advanced driver assist and safety
technologies, you can rest assured that all that is great about the CX-5 doesn't come at a cost
to your personal safety. So how much does all this cost? Well, it's actually quite reasonable with the
CX-5 starting at just under $27,000. The next car on the list the 3-row mid-size
Hyundai Palisade isn't exactly aimed at seniors but bear with us because this SUV has many
features that seniors would just love. Let's start with safety. The Palisade locks down some
of the highest safety ratings in its class with the highest rating of 'Top Safety Pick Plus' from
the IIHS and that's not all, the Palisade comes absolutely loaded with safety and advanced driver
assist technologies, most of them standard while a handful are available as upgrades. Seniors want to
be comfortable and when it comes to comfort, the Palisade is a dream much closer to a luxury
vehicle than anything with some of the most comfortable seats in the game. Beyond comfort the
cabin of the Palisade has ample space for you and the grandkids and if you're the type who loves
to go on road trips or carry a lot of cargo, the Palisade has got you covered with its spacious
cargo area and easy to fold third row seats so you can bring everything you need for your next
adventure. All of this comfort in space doesn't come at the price of power as the Palisade
delivers there too with smooth acceleration and ample power for any driving situation. While
the Palisade isn't necessarily the most likely vehicle for a senior to buy it's worth noting
that this car packs a lot of features that you won't find in other vehicles and with a starting
price just under $36,000, it won't break the bank either. So we just talked
about the Hyundai Palisade but did you know that the Palisade has a corporate cousin that's just as
impressive? Meet the Kia Telluride! The Telluride is quite possibly the hottest SUV on the market right
now and it's not surprising that some seniors want in on the action as this SUV seems to have it
all! This is a gorgeous looking SUV that offers seniors an absolutely beautiful cabin with plenty
of passenger and cargo space for the grandkids, road trips, and everything else in life. It's also
rated very high in crash test ratings with a 'Top Safety Pick Plus' designation from the IIHS and
includes a bevy of standard safety and driver assist technologies that provide peace of mind.
Seniors will appreciate that the Telluride comes standard with push button start and remote start
across all trim levels as well as heated front seats on all but the base model. If that weren't
enough most models of the Telluride even include ventilated front seats a nice bonus for seniors
that live in hotter climates. Now, the Telluride isn't exactly a rock star when it comes to fuel
economy but as a larger vehicle it does provide an acceptable 20 miles per gallon (11.7 L/100km) in the city
and 27 miles per gallon (8.7 L/100km) on the highway. The bigger problem with the Telluride, however, isn't fuel
economy...it's getting your hands on one especially at or near sticker price which starts at around
$36,000. Do you like the idea of a mid-size SUV but have no need for three rows?
Well, the Subaru Outback just might be the answer. So what makes the Outback so special? For starters,
This SUV has a rugged and athletic design that's perfect for everything from outdoor adventures to
city commutes. It's also equipped with all-wheel drive (AWD) and a relatively powerful engine which
makes it ideal for driving in all kinds of weather conditions and if you're looking for a vehicle
that's spacious and comfortable the Outback's roomy interior and ample cargo space will definitely fit
the bill. But why would seniors specifically want to consider the Outback? For one thing it's high
ground clearance and advanced safety features make it easy to get in and out of and will keep
you protected on the road additionally the Outback smooth ride and comfortable seats make
it a great choice for driving around grandkids or taking long road trips with friends. As far
as the nitty-gritty details are concerned, the Outback gets excellent fuel economy for a mid-size
SUV of up to 28 miles per gallon (8.4 L/100km) it also boasts top-notch safety ratings from the National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and with features
like Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Traffic alert and Adaptive Cruise Control, you can rest
assured that you'll be driving with the latest and greatest safety technology. So what's the catch?
There isn't one as the Outback's starting price is quite affordable for a standard all-wheel drive
mid-size SUV at just over $28,000. The next SUV on the list, the Toyota Corolla Cross,
may be one that you haven't heard much about but this SUV is making waves for all the right reasons.
So let's dive in! First off, it's important to note that the Corolla cross shares its platform with
the Toyota Corolla sedan. This means that it has a lot of the same attributes that make the Corolla
so beloved but it is slightly larger and sports a distinct look. One thing that sets the Corolla
Cross apart from the Corolla is its higher ride height and available all-wheel drive this can be
appealing to seniors who want the efficiency in comfort of a Corolla but want easier access and
driving capabilities. Another great feature of the Corolla Cross is that is spacious with plenty
of room for passengers and cargo. When it comes to safety the Corolla Cross has you covered it
comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 Suite of advanced safety features as well as
top marks and crash testing from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Finally the Corolla
Cross starts at a very reasonable price point at just over $23,000, making it
an affordable option for seniors on a fixed income. We've reached our final vehicle on the list...
the Hyundai Santa Cruz. While technically classified as a small truck, the Santa
Cruz really is the Hyundai Tucson SUV with an open cargo area tailored as a truck bed.
When it comes to seniors, the Santa Cruz is an appealing choice for a variety of reasons its
roomy interior provides ample space and comfort for passengers while its advanced safety features
help give seniors peace of mind while on the road. The Santa Cruz's cargo bed is handy to seniors
just as truck beds are handy to anyone of any age. Seniors are active and sometimes need the open
air space of a truck bed instead of the enclosed cargo area of an SUV. Another major plus to the
Santa Cruz is Hyundai's exceptional warranty which covers you for 5 years instead of the more
common 3-year warranty found throughout the industry. You also get three years of free routine
maintenance performed by Hyundai. Starting at just $25,700, the
Santa Cruz is a solid value for seniors looking for the best of both worlds...the comfortable
half of an SUV and the practical half of a truck.
