88 MPH DeLorean Kart Build Pt.1 | Vintage Go Kart Chassis

what is going on guys we are building a back to the future inspired 88 mile an hour go-kart we are gonna use a heavily modified twenty five ish horsepower engine on an American Express 2.0 chassis so Dennis from go-kart alley made a buttload of these and he wants to sell one to you he sent us one to do whatever we want with it now we were originally thinking of chopping it up and putting independent suspension on it but after being in Texas and seeing what he did with his Smokey and the Bandit inspired one it really changed my mind on chopping this go-kart up so we started thinking what iconic movie car could we come up with to use his inspiration for hard build and we thought of immediately back to the future because look at the paint I mean it almost looks like a DeLorean already we did some brainstorming we did some research we re watched the movie and I think we have a pretty good list of things we can do to turn this into an 88 mile an hour DeLorean go kart I think so and we think we can go 88 miles an hour - yes so we have a 420 laying around we're gonna check and see if that is gonna fit on here because we also have a stage 2 kit for that 420 from go power sports calm but if that doesn't work we think we can do with the 212 what do you all think of the shirt turn around yeah what do you guys think of those shirts friend of mine designed them we can put a ball on our store if you're interested yeah I'm pretty sure it'll fit but it's always it's always a lot bigger than I remember I mean like it is though like it's funny but Oh No well then about what we got we can relocate the gas tank we can relocate the the engines like switches what are we gonna put the gas tank that yeah so we're gonna have to reload to relocate the brake if we're gonna it's gonna be mighty close it does not look like this 420 is gonna work for our purposes but when we were in Texas last month we found out that there are some guys doing crazy stuff with 2:12 so that we didn't even think was possible we're talking like one point three to one ratio rockers and chromoly push rods and oversized valves and crazy stuff these engines are putting out 25 to 30 horsepower and I think we can accomplish that 88 mile an hour goal with a 25 to 30 horsepower to 12 we have done 212 builds in the past we have gotten 15 horsepower out of our engines and it has Carrodus to 72 miles per hour yeah but that was like a year ago and since then companies like Opower sports have come out with stuff like oversize valves and chromoly push rods and like one point three two one rockers and just taken performance to another level so and these engines are putting out 25 to 30 horsepower so between that 10 to 15 horsepower improvement I think we can hit our 88 miles an hour with the 212 plus they're lighter more compact easier to shoehorn into our chassis yep let's go get an engine so we just got back from Harbor Freight it's like almost an hour drive one way for us so when we go we stock up we got a 212 with the Hemi head we got another 212 with the non Hemi head we're not sure which like performance package is gonna work best for like which engine Hemi verse 9 Hemi so we did not have access to a stainless steel go-kart chassis in fact the DeLorean is made out of stuff just like this we didn't have access to that so we do have this regular steel non stainless go-cart so if we sand it blasted with clear coat I think we can achieve the look yes this was our test spot and it turned out real good after we put the engine on it so there's some scratches but yes they didn't work on those stains but we got a nice brush look and it's protected so it doesn't rust yeah we have been sanding away at our chassis here we've done half of it check it out there's the done half shows on go-karts as you can see the overall tone of the metal is a little bit brighter than a DeLorean we tried speckling with a black paint waiting for it to dry and then sanding it it didn't work so we're just gonna give this a shot I think it's close enough and now that it's sitting in the Sun I think it looks really good there just a couple more little spots we forgot to hit ready I'm ready someplace inconspicuous you conspicuous by courtesy kind of work on technique so the DeLorean is mainly stainless steel but it does have some black accents that's why we're painting our petals back our spindles are gonna be black as well Jason this is a this is Isaac I wanted to see if you can get something for me okay it's gonna be a 1985 it's a DMC DeLorean man don't laugh but I'm looking for the clue I'm looking for the flux capacitor and I'm not kidding I was pretty sure y'all sold it on the Internet y'all can't get it through the store man that is a bummer I was seriously looking into buying one all right man I appreciate it all right so we're gonna need to find our flux capacitor elsewhere eBay eBay or Etsy I think I saw one on Etsy these spindles are offset so we can either go for like a two inch drop or a no drop probably ought to have safety glasses there we go No was it me or did I make it look kind of easy no you always make it look easy dude between your skills my editing dude here's where we started differ from the regular American Express 2.0 racing hubs washers or something some kind of spacers in the past when we built go-karts the further out the wheel was the the Twitter it would get really yeah how we wanted a wider track for more stability I guess the steering that was affected though steering is affected and remember these are straight up and down so we don't want twitchy right this is gonna make it twitchy that's gonna make it twitchy earth right so we're gonna I would like to move these in as far as we can with the wheels we got this cart really doesn't have any caster in the front end whereas in something designed to go high speed like this rail we put like I think was 20 to 25 degrees of caster there you can see that angle of those spindles they're the exact same spindles but they're tilted back like 20 to 25 degrees and that's gonna help with your high speed stability so we may go out and do a run and you know when he when he hits or when I hit 70 miles an hour or something it could get real twitchy at which point we're gonna have to bring him back at the drawing board chop him off rotate him 25 degrees for that perfect amount of caster and to give it another go John you did a fantastic job on these spacers but guess what what they come in the bag with the kit yeah sorry buddy so are we gonna use the ones we cut yep might put a washer in there to make it give it a little bit more room cuz the I was looking at it and these might you know yeah they're even closer so we're gonna put a couple of washers then I go for the middle one oh yeah just from there and yes the response however you say and then yes we prepped and painted our American Express 2.0 chassis which ate up a lot of the day but I think it looks really good the clear coat helped darken it a little bit it was a too little bit too bright before but I think it matches the time-traveling DeLorean really well now hopefully it'll hold up to like rain and stuff we chose an axle length so as soon as the paint is dry we can start assembling and hopefully by the end of the next video we're gonna have a roller maybe even a runner because I mean we to make the fire behind the tires work when a time travels we're gonna try to really match the movie car we need the wiring on the outside there are lots of aesthetic things that we need to handle but
