what's up guys and welcome to another draw along with me today's tutorial is this tron style sunset which i've been requesting for a numerous times on both tik tok and instagram as always there's a link in the description to the palette that i've used in this particular design so you'll be able to follow along with the exact same colors if you have any requests for any tutorials or any particular styles you'd like to see please feel free to drop a comment below and i'll be sure to bear in mind for a future design just before we get started with today's tutorial if you're also a keen artist then the folks over at paperlike have got you covered you can enjoy the sound and the feel of a paper-like texture on your screen when you're drawing if you're interested in purchasing your own paper light screen protector there'll be a link down in the description to get started the canvas size for this drawing is 2500 by 2500 and the dpi is set to 300. now what we're going to do is we're going to change our background color to the dark navy which is this one here in the bottom left of our canvas now we've set our background color we just need to pick any old color and i'm just going to pick a sort of light gray for this one and then on layer one with the monoline brush which is underneath the calligraphy section of the monoline we are just going to draw across like so and if you hold your pen at the end it will draw a perfectly straight line and if you pop your finger on the screen it will also make it a perfect horizontal line and if i let go i can just grab my color and drop it in like so so we're just shy of two thirds down and so just slightly larger than a third of the bottom of the screen there now what we're going to do is something we've not done in any of the tutorials till now um but it's a really useful tip we're going to drag in some content from different sources now if i swipe up from my dock i have chrome as well as my photos here ready to go if you don't have them you'll need to drop them into your dock potentially to do this or if they're part of your recent apps on the right hand side you'll also be able to do this and so i've swiped up from the bottom and now what we need to do is if you go to the link in the description you can go to the grid image that i've popped in there and if i go here you can see the grid image here that i've added in the description so you can follow along and you don't have to draw out the grid and simply all you've got to do is hold down on this and then you'll get the option to save now i'm using chrome if you use safari it might be slightly different but you'll need to save it to your images so i'll just hit save and that's now in my photos ready to go so i can grab this tab at the top and swipe that out of the way and then if i swipe up from the bottom again and i grab my photos hold down i can drag it and then just like it is here drop it there and i get a little window and i've already arranged this image so that we can grab it here and you simply drag and drop onto the canvas it'll import and that's done and then you can just simply grab this little tab at the top and swipe that away so now when we go to our layers this image is now in there we need to go to our cursor and now start to arrange it how we need it so for demonstration purposes i'm going to go to my layer i'm going to tap on the grid layer that we just dropped in and make sure when you drop it in that it's the top layer if you need to just quickly hold down and rearrange them now i'm going to tap on it and i'm going to invert it so it's white so i can see it and then i'm going to go to my cursor and i'm just going to drag it out and make it a little bit larger and what we're trying to do here is we need to get this point and this point to these edges here and then drag out the bottom points so what i'll do is i'll just show you what i mean by that we're going to drag this down to the left hand side until the lines match up now just as a little tip here if you go to snapping if you turn on snapping here you'll start to see the different lines appear such as the blue one and the orange one the orange one on the left hand side there means i've hit the very edge of the design and the blue one here across the top symbolizes that i've reached the peak uh line of the gray section and then what i'm gonna do is i'm just gonna with the uniform selected first drag that out until it fits the whole canvas and you can see the orange line appear on the right hand side and now what i'm going to do is just grab the distort tool and i'm just going to grab this bottom right hand corner and just drag it out way over here and i'm going to do exactly the same towards the same sort of degree over here to the left hand side and what you want to try and do is make sure in the middle this middle column here is pointing quite vertically and nice and straight um there's no exact science to this one you can do how you want but that's how i like to do it and then i'm going to grab my free form option and then just bring it up to the line like so and i may just repeat that process and just drag this out a little bit more and you can keep it across the blue line if you turned on the snapping now and you'll know that it's perfectly horizontal like so and i'm going to let go like that and i tap on my cursor and that's now done now with this image for some reason the tip of it there just likes to go a bit too high so we're just going to bring that down up so slightly like so and you can with procreate as well if you just want to nudge it up say a pixel you can just literally just just tap above and it will follow your image slightly up and what we can do here just to be sure is we're going to go on to our layer we're going to tap on it and select the option clipping mask so it nicely fits into this space below so now we've got the basic principle of the floor and then we can start to fill in either the mountains the sun and all the different colors that are going to go into this design now what i want to do first off is now we've got a basic sort of floor and we can roughly now see where the floor ends and starts we can go back to our layers this is the gray layer that's underneath i'm going to go to my color picker and select the one in the bottom left and i'm going to drag that into that space there so now in your mind you should remember where the white goes up to is roughly where the edge of the floor is and obviously it starts down here and what we're going to do is we're going to go into our layers underneath this one here we're going to create a clip a new layer and it will automatically clip to the floor underneath and then we're going to go to our colors and we're going to grab the nice bright shiny turquoise color there we're going to go to our brush library we're going to go to airbrushing and we're going to select the option of the soft brush now a little tip here so you can see your brush if you go to your set you go to your settings and go to preferences you can turn on the option for brush cursor and then you can see the circle around your pen like that so you know exactly where you're filling in on the screen now what i want to do is i just want to start on this left hand side and just go all the way across to the right and you can see here now i've started to add a little bit of a soft glow in the background underneath the white and i just want to make sure that it's nice and even and i can press a little bit harder so you can get a bit more of a blue edge up there and we can build this up as we go through the rest of the design and because it's clipped it perfectly fits the floor as well i'm gonna go to our layers i'm gonna create another new layer and we're going to do the opposite now down here but with the pink so we're going to go to our color picker we're going to select the reddish pink here in the top left and we're just going to do the exact same thing we're going to go from left to right until we get close to the blue again maybe you want to add a little bit more there we can brighten that up later on should we need to and now what we need to do is we actually then need to color in the lines as well to make sure that the lines somewhat match up to the floor underneath now we're going to go to this layer here and which is the one with the grid and we're going to tap on it and select the option of alpha lock alpha lock means you cannot paint outside of the shapes of that layer so i cannot paint for example in the middle if i show you here i can't paint in the middle of these squares but i can only paint on the white lines so what we're going to do is i'm just going to rotate my canvas for the ease of the stroke we are on that layer and it's alpha locked and we're just going to start at the bottom here and pressing a little bit harder we're going to fill in like so the lines so we get a nice bright strong punchy reddish pink color and then we're going to go to our color picker and select the cyan and we're going to do exactly the same at the top and press a little bit firmer and just blend it out until we reach the red like so so what we'll do now is we're going to create the mountains so underneath this floor layer here because they sit in the background we're going to create a new layer and we're going to drag it underneath the floor layer we created to that one there and then again using any old color we'll just use the light gray for now i'm gonna go back to our brush library and we're gonna select the option of calligraphy and the monoline brush again and what we're gonna do is we're just gonna draw in some mountains so my brush size is set to five percent we're just gonna somewhat start in the middle and just create some mountainy like shapes like so until they sort of reach a peak now you can either come down a little bit or continue to make your way all the way to the edge like that now what i need to do is because i let my pen off the screen i've drawn my sort of outline i need to start at the end point again and then just go all the way around until i link up with where i started and i can drag the color in like so so as always you can draw any shape and as long as you link up all the colors and the lines you can drop in the color you wish so that's one mountain done and then we can do the same on the other side as well so we'll create another new layer because we want to keep them relatively separate just in case we want to make any tweaks so we created another new layer and we're going to do almost the same process on this left hand side where we start sort of in the middle and you want to make sure your sort of mountains differ from one another and i've gone with that sort of shape so there's any sort of one peak i've gone all the way back around until i've reached my starting point so i should be able to drag and drop my color in like that so roughly they're the same height but in terms of aesthetics this one has sort of two peaks to it and this one has just the one so now just to aid in the shading process we're going to go to our layers and we're going to create a new layer anywhere but we're going to drag it all the way down to the bottom until it's just above the background layer now what we want to do is we just want to add a little bit of a glow in here so that when we come to paint our mountains we can see the outline of them so we're going to go to our brush library and select from the airbrushing the soft brush again i'm going to make this a little bit bigger at roughly around about 60 percent and i'm gonna grab the cyan color again so we're only really using two colors throughout this whole process so far and what we're just going to do is from left to right very lightly just start to go backwards and forwards and build up a layer of light it's just sitting in the background there [Music] like so it's very light towards the bottom and then just has a little bit of a glow upwards and we can go back in again and fill this in if we want to make any adjustments but roughly i'm pretty happy with how that currently sits like that so then what we can do now is we can go back to our mountains and start to fill them in one with the correct color and then also with the glows that are going to come from the sun it's going to sit here so firstly with our mountain layer on the left hand side selected i'm going to go to my colors and i'm going to select the background color that we used which is the dark navy i'm going to drag and drop that into there i'm going to do the same for the other mountain so select that layer go to your colors and then drag and drop that into that so now you can see the outline we can then go in and add in the highlights so with mountain on the left hand side selected i'm going to create a new layer i'm going to tap on that layer and i'm going to make sure it's clipped to the mountain on the left hand side and for all the glows we want them to be this ready pinkish color here and we're gonna go in and we're gonna start to add in some highlights so i always like to use a soft airbrush for this you can start to plan out your design and you can go in with the same brush and add in the extra highlights so we need to remember that our sun's going to sit here so if this mountain here is on the left-hand side all the light is coming from this direction so it's going to hit this edge here i'm not going to have a lot over here and we just need to bear in mind the peaks that we've created create shadows as well as highlights so let's start at the bottom here we have a little tiny peak here and very lightly with the brush just building up a little bit of a glow and again start off light you can build it up as we make our way through but because this peak sits here it's going to create somewhat of a shadow on this left hand side and we can continue to move on up this mountain inside so just giving a little bit of space to that little gap there like so and i'm just going to drag my brush inwards a bit more into the mountain just to create more of a glow and likewise just up here at the very end just a little glow and all the light because it's going that way you can start to maybe drag out some of the lines like so inwards like that and again i'm very very very light here because we can go in and add in some more punchy colors shortly and then what we're going to do is we're going to create another new layer we're going to tap on that and also make a clipping mask i'm gonna go back to our colors and using the same airbrush but the cyan color it's gonna add a glow that comes from the bottom here which is where the lights bouncing off of our futuristic tron style floor here so with my brush size set to roughly around about 15 16 percent just gonna glide across from left to right very lightly like so until we build up somewhat of a glow now you could add be a little bit more firm here and start to really build up just the very bottom edge of that glow so it sits quite close to the color of the floor see if now i'm starting to really build it up you can see that it's starting to become a lot lighter than the floor that's underneath it and that's fine for now i'm happy to leave that somewhat like that so that mountain is filled in with its basic colors we can go in and go back to our pink layer and go back and select the pink color and with the airbrush just bring it down to around about three percent and zoom in and just start to uh press a bit firmer just towards the edge adding that bright streak here just right on the tip here where the sun's most vibrant and you can press relatively hard here the um airbrush just gives you that slight off blur on the edge there and we can do exactly the same up here so starting like so [Music] and then stroke it back up again just in case you want to add a little bit more of a glow to that and because i've been super punchy up here i'm just going to return back to here and just add in a little bit more so it all matches up like so and that looks nice that looks smart and we just make sure this edge up here is just a little bit brighter like so that looks cool i'm happy with that and now we just need to replicate everything we just did on this side on this right hand side and then we are done with those sort of mountains now make sure you select the right layer and you can just turn them on and off very quickly to see so i'm on that mountain on the right hand side now create a new layer tap on it and make sure it's a clipping mask and then we're going to go back up to make sure our brush is roughly around about 15 16 and now we're building in the very light glows to start with let's make that smaller let's make that roughly ten percent or nine percent and we're just building in where the the lights hitting and now because on this one i did a big sec like first peak and then we've got a second peak there's gonna be a nice shadow cast here so we don't want to do we don't want to go too far over this edge here where this point is the left-hand side now is with the light and the right-hand side is the shadows so we can start to build in where the light would hit very lightly like so and then while we're already using the cyan the sort of pink color sorry we can drop our brush back down to three to three percent two to three percent and now we can start to press a little bit harder and build in where that light would be hitting quite hard [Music] like so and we'll do exactly the same here again just the left-hand side of this peak we don't want to hit the right-hand side at all because there's no light there [Music] and i'm going back in just pressing quite firm in certain places just to really punch out some of that color like so and then you can zoom out just have a look how you did it on the other side i've gone a little bit thinner here compared to the left hand side so i can start to bring more color in [Music] that's arguably too [Music] oh much my pencil there just two fingers to undo very quickly if you did not know that and we zoom out that matches up quite nicely to the other side and now we just need to add in that little blue glow from the floor underneath so we're gonna go back to our layers i'm going to create a new layer and we're going to tap on it and we're going to select clipping mask i'm going to go to our layers and select color sorry and select the cyan and then making our brush roughly about 15 to build up that glow very lightly to start with until you start to get the shape you want and then really start to add in a bit more towards the very bottom edge like so and then again zoom out see how you got on the other side if you prefer this side now like i do and go back into the other side and just sort of punch that out a little bit more like so and now i feel like they balance out one another quite well so we've done our mountains we've done our floor for the second and we are just going to start to add in the sun so going down to our layers scroll all the way to the bottom we've got this layer here which is the glow in the background we want to create a new layer above that but behind these mountains and we're going to go to our colors and we're just going to select white for the moment so quick tip if you're like here for example you just double tap in the top left or the bottom it will select black or white and we're going to go to our brush library we're going to go to calligraphy i'm going to use the monoline brush and it doesn't matter what the size is of this for now but so you guys can see i'm just going to make this 25 i'm just going to draw a circle now you won't be able to see some of it because it will fall underneath make sure your lines meet up at the top and then pop your finger on the screen to draw a perfect circle and then you just want to sort of gauge how big or how small you want your sun to be i'm happy with that size and if i drag in my color of white we've got a solid shape and then again with the snapping turned on if we go to our cursor and go to snapping and make sure it's turned on here we can drag this and when you hit the orange line in the middle as well as horizontal it means that sun is perfectly in the middle of the entire canvas which is perfect because then it matches up and aligns nicely so now what we want to do is go back to the sun we want to tap on it and select the option of alpha lock which again means you cannot paint outside of this sun now and now we're going to get started adding in these colors here the yellow the orange and then the red as well so let's get started with yellow let's just drag and drop that into the circle that's like our base color and then we are going to go to our brushes we're going to go to airbrushing and select soft brush again and then with the orange selected and the brush size roughly around about 25 i'm just going to start at the bottom where you can be quite firm but then as you get further up just lighter and lighter until you're leaving like the majority of the bottom half is orange and then but there's enough yellow towards the top as well and then that's good for me i'm going to go back in i'm going to select my red color now and then do the same at the bottom but only up until it meets the orange like so so we've got a gradient from yellow through to orange through to the red now i'm actually going to add in a bit more red here especially towards the edges maybe like so and then what you can do is you can go to your adjustments and select gaussian blur and layer and if you're not happy with how you faded that together no problem because you've used the layer gaussian blur you can blend that as much or as little as you like i'm going to just blend it about 25 just to be sure that it it blends nicely from top to bottom there like so now what we're going to do is start to mask out the parts of the sun that we don't want to see that creates that nice gradient style fade out to the bottom so we're going to tap on our sun and we're going to set the option of mask and that creates a mask above and if you didn't know a mask means that where it's white it will show and where it's where you paint in black it will hide so that the light exposes it and the black casts the shadow over basically and hides it so the mask is all completely white which means the whole of the sun is showing but what we draw in black now will start to hide so i make sure you are selected on the layer mask go to your color picker and just double tap towards the bottom and it will select black and then go to your brush library and select monoline which is under calligraphy and we're just going to zoom in a little bit so we can see our sun and then we're going to start with the smallest line first and just draw a line horizontally straight through this of what we want to cut out so i'm going to start roughly here draw a line across hold your pen at the end and then pop your finger on the screen to draw a perfect horizontal line and then what we're going to do is we're just going to keep making that brush slightly bigger every time so i'm at four percent now and just start to draw in the lines like so doing exactly the same thing every time so i'm at eight percent now making my way across holding my pen at the end and popping my thumb on the screen to do a perfect horizontal line and i'm just increasing my brush size by four percent every time i'm up to 12 now just drawing across like so and then what you can start to do is once you've got the nice gap between them and it's starting to be more consistent you start to maybe make the gap rather than four percent every time i've gone up to 20 so that's gone up by eight percent and just drawing the line like so so the gaps now will start to get smaller from one another and i've gone from 20 i'm going to jump to 30 percent like so and then i'm going to go from 30 to 45 percent and then 45 up to 65 [Music] and then 65 let's say to 70. what was that that was 17 not 80 even big cut out here at the bottom and then let's go all the way up to 100 and just cut out a big horizontal line through the sun like that so you can see i've started to erase parts of it it fades out you can see straight through it and everything we drew in black there has now been masked out and is no longer visible to the eye so we've got that cool gradient effect as we go down you can be really bold with this you can maybe squeeze your lines down so they're closer towards the bottom but i'm pretty happy with that of how that works out you could maybe i've spotted for example in my own piece this line here is quite close to the one above now if for example you made a mistake or you go back in at this point because it's a mask all you've got to do is just draw it back in so if you select white and draw that horizontal line back in you you re-expose it and that's the magic of using a mask and then i could go back in here select black again and redo that line i'm not sure what percentage that would have been but i can make it work by doing a horizontal line across and through and again i've maybe gone a bit too close to the top of that line this time and that sits more in the middle like so and that matches up to me into my eye so now what i'm going to do is i'm going to go to my layers scroll down to the bottom and behind the sun layer i'm just going to create a new one and then we're going to go to our colors and i'm going to select the bright red that we used towards the bottom half of this and i'm just going to bring my brush size down and my brush i've gone to the airbrushing section and selected soft brush i'm just going to put a dot in the middle of the screen and then i'm going to just use the cursor and the uniform option to make that as big or as small as i want and where i want it and i want it to sit right bang in the middle of the canvas as well as horizontal as well like so and then that sits nicely in there it adds a lot to this sun we can start to add in the extra little effects that we need to do for this grid at the bottom and the floor so first things first we need to duplicate the sun layer now i'm happy with my mask which means i'm going to apply the mask to the sun and what i can do is on my sun layer i can pinch those two together that layer no longer has a mask on it and i've applied everything i decided to cut out to the actual layer itself and then what we're going to do is we are going to swipe this layer to the left now it's in the wrong position at the moment because it's right at the very back of the design we want to drag that all the way up to the top and then this is our floor layer here we want to drop it here and then we want to grab our cursor tool and flip it vertically and then drag it into position where we want it and we don't want the look we don't want to expose this part here that we didn't really bother with we want to just show everything that we were cutting out of the floor now what we want to do is also use the free form tool and just maybe make that a little bit flatter so it doesn't reflect so far and then again try and match up your line straight down the middle and this now nicely sits so now what we want to do is we need to revisit this layer because it will still be alpha locked from when it was the sun above you might tap on that and you want to select the option of alpha lock that now turns it off and then you want to go to your adjustments version blur and layer and then from left to right just you'll see the percentage at the top you roughly want to go to around about 16 percent nothing more enough unless really it's but then it's totally up to you how much you want to do that for me i'm happy with how much blur that is you can see that it resembles the sun and then what we want to do is just go to our layers tap on the layer of the sun and just drag the opacity down which makes it a little bit more transparent and that's more of the color through and we get to roughly around about 82 on that one and it just adds a little bit more to that now the only thing i want to do here is these grid lines are far too strong in the distance so there's two things we can do here one we could start to lower the opacity down on it but that also makes the layer a little bit blurrier so what we'll do is i quite like how strong and punchy they are down here we're going to tap on that layer and select the option of mask which now has added a mask to this grid and then we are going to make sure we're on the mask layer go to our brushes make sure we have selected black by going down to the bottom here like so and then with the soft airbrush under the airbrushing section roughly around about the 50 mark we are just going to paint from left to right that's probably too big let's go 30 from left to right very lightly backwards and forwards until we start to fade out those lines a little bit in the distance so they're nice and punchy when they're close to us but they blur out a little bit towards the distance now the final little touch you would want to add in here as well as maybe go back in and add some extra highlights is go to your layers scroll down towards the bottom and then above the blue glow that we created as well as the red glow you want to create a new layer you want to go to your colors and double select the white and then go to your brush library and select the option of under calligraphy monoline make it as small as you can down to one percent i'm just going to add in some stars in the background and as always be careful with the monoline brush that you're tapping don't drag otherwise you'll end up with a little sort of dash rather than a dot then we're just going to fill in the screen with some stars like so and we're filling in at the moment the the smallest smallest that the brush will go sorry and in a minute we can start to add in some larger stars as well [Music] like so and then we're going to go to our brush and make it a bit bigger towards five percent and maybe even slightly larger than that let's go let's go off to nine percent like so and add in those stars like that now i'm not particularly happy about how bright they are so what i'm going to do is just go to my layers and then go to the layer that we just started drawing on and just lower the opacity down roughly to around about 30 percent because they're super punchy otherwise they take away from the fact of the sun the sun will also having such a large glow will also sort of fade those out in the distance and another little touch we can add here now is we want to reflect these mountains here in the floor underneath as well as it's also part of that sort of landscape in the distance so we want to go to our layers and this mountain is the right hand side one here and then this one is the left i'm going to use the left hand side one first if i swipe that layer to the left and select duplicate now the top one here is what all these other layers are clipped to so we don't want to mess with that one it's this bottom one here we now want to move into position what we want to do is we want to hold down on the layer and then with your thumb you can drag it up into position where you want it now it needs to sit up here this is our floor layer this is the blurry sun that we created in the backdrop and these are the extra glows and the grid and we want to drop it above the sun but below our glows like so and then with our cursor option select flip vertical and then just drag that down into position like so until this point here matches this point here and if i pinch to zoom in we've got a little bit of excess there that we can get rid of but like so it should match up like that and then i just need to erase a little bit of excess that i had on the right hand side there and that just sort of fills in and completes the uh illusion of the reflection and because it's the same navy color as the background it also blends in really nicely and we don't need to do anything else to it and we're going to do exactly the same for the mountain on the left so i'll move my canvas over to the left we're going to go to our layers we're going to find the mountain on the right hand side and swipe that to the left and select duplicate and then we again we don't want to mess with this one because this is where the extra layers of the blue and the pink are clipped to we want to just use this one here again drag it up into position [Music] in front of the sun like so and then again go to your cursor and use the option flip vertical and then drag it down into position again so that those points match up like so and then what we can also do is just to complete the fact that it also needs to blur out both of those layers we can pinch those two together so that they are now one layer we can go to our gaussian blur which is under adjustments and layer and just give that a little bit of a blur like so i've just gone up to eight percent and by blurring that out we've now completed the reflection underneath and it's all consistent that anything underneath the grid lines and reflecting on this or glossy floor is now being blurred out ever so slightly as well now at this point you can leave the whole design i would be very happy to leave that the only thing i think i'm going to personally do is just add a little bit more of a glow just in here behind the mountains so i'm going to scroll down to my layers this is the blue layer we originally added and i'll just continue to work on that which is the glow that currently sits behind there i'm just going to go to my colors select the cyan i'm going to go to the brush library and select airbrushing and just add in a little bit more of a punch just behind here like so and i'm sort of using a circular motion like that just to add in some more blue but just on the inside so it contains all the light in this space here like so and that's just like a little extra touch that you may or may not want to add in and now we can zoom out of our design and we have the finished product and that completes today's tutorial thank you if you did follow along from start to finish please tag me in your designs on instagram the best way to do so is if you pop it on your story and tag joel.create in your story i can
