Please note that this website is currently a work in progress! Lots of interesting data and statistics to come.
These things made 657hp @ 7500rpm in 1964. The engine weighed 680lbs.
You could buy it from the Ford Parts Counter for $2350 in 1968.
$16,575 in today's money.
It's the only engine ever banned from NASCAR competition thanks to Chrysler. A 426 HEMI vs 427 SOHC in the 1965 NASCAR season would have been epic.
What an engine.
That wail at full throttle is pure wickedness.
You can have any domestic engine you like; hemis, shotgun 429s, cobra jets, all the various copo variants; even L88s. I will take a 427 SOHC Ford anytime, over all of them. I know they are finicky as hell, but I i will somehow manage.
Mother of god that is so bad ass. Also side note they need to have John be in more DT stuff again.
Great googly moogly.
damn... i have a 55 fairlane shell in my garage...I would love to make it sound like that haha..even if its not as fast. Just drop a new engine and drive it all rusty.
"Black Ops" 1967 Fairlane

That's a pretty badass engine, considering it was 50 years ago.
That being said, it's amazing how much cars have improved since then. The rest of the car aside from the engine especially. A really lucky run with 650 horsepower car back then barely broke into the 11s in the quarter, and holy hell that car didn't handle well.
I can't say I'm a fan of the body style but all of the little design choices make it likeable. Especially, the larger rear fender, side exit exhaust, pull open door handle. etc. etc.
