70% WINRATE CHALLENGER SHEN BUILD GUIDE (Best Items and Runes)

greetings dear viewer after hundreds of games of testing different item builds and different Rune combinations I have finally found the best Shen build for season 14 with this build I have officially reached Europe West Challenger once again with a 60% win rate over 200 games and this particular build had a 70% win rate over 40 games in this video I will teach you everything you need in order to mimic My Success so we're going to talk about the runes the items and the play style first lesson always invade invading is op because being aggressive and being proactive is always going to be better than just being passive okay you have to take charge of the games in order to have an impact already from level one we need to do stuff right for my Summoner spells I'm running flash ignite every game because I feel like they give me the most impact let's talk about the rooms okay we have standard crasp Shield by second wind but I have found that overgrowth has been more valuable for me than revitalizing this season then we have cheap shot ultimate Hunter Ultimate Hunter really strong Rune guys you're going to play around your ultimate cool down you need it okay in the stat charts my personal preference adaptive Force scaling HP flat HP I take these runes into every game and into every matchup before we look at the laning phase I will show you a clip guys okay pay attention so we start off by being hidden in this bush Okay we have kind of lost the team fight already except we have kaisa I decided to go for the brown here and I want you to guys look at this game play and think what is different compared to a normal Shen build what is different do you see it okay I managed to kill the brown here then I start hitting the gar but V appears with kaisa form okay I'm going to to here I'm going to run I'm going to run I'm going to run okay do you see it guys do you see it how does he keep running how does he make it out alive how does he do it the only reason why I ever kill Brown first of all and also make it out alive when the vgo has a red buff and is continuously slowing me is dead man plate this item is my new favorite tank item specifically my favorite armor item in the game all right previously I thought that okay hey dead man plate it's gold inefficient it's not good right you don't get as many stats okay you shouldn't buy this wrong actually wrong gold efficiency is a fine statistic if you're using it to measure two similar items and taking into account their passive effects okay but if we look at the raw gold efficiency or a naive stat efficiency if you will dead man's plate is only 67% gold efficient or 84% gold efficient when you have the movement speed stacked up but what you have to think about this item is the fact that it actually gives you onit damage on every single Auto attack and physical onit damage is equivalent to attack damage on Shen if you're not building any any other items that would have some kind of AD scaling and with our build attack damage is literally one to one physical onit damage so if we now take a look at how much damage dead man plate actually gives me if I'm continuously attacking opponents at a level where I have already acquired dead man plate either first or second item on average it's going to do around 40 physical damage on each Auto attack so if we slap 40 attack damage in the gold efficiency calculations you notice that suddenly boom what dead man plate is a monster item okay it's a monster item insane gold efficiency plus movement speed on top okay and the point of this is not to give you guys an accurate calculation of a like gold efficiency value of dead man blade it is simply to give you guys an understanding that not everything is taken into account when looking at Gold efficiency and also that items have a lot of strength that are Champion specific right because Shen doesn't make use of AD in any other way than his attacks here by the way we're going to go for a sneaky little flash ignite kill on the echo this is what I'm doing every game by the way like I'm playing very aggressively grasp into every matchup if enemies are melee level one okay or sorry yeah if enemies are melee opponent I will take Q level one to bully them okay if enemies are range I will take e level one I will stack my grasp on the minion wave e on top of them and just spank them until they leave okay and usually you win that trade it's just Shen with his new base ad Buffs guys the base ad Buffs think about it they make perfect Shen perfect shens because Dead Man's plate has a base ad scaling right so it's even better because we got that four base ad buff so now we can start e level one we just go into them and go b b and you win the trade before I give you guys the full information on my item build I want to talk about dead man plate even more okay this item gives you armor Health percentage movement speed and then flat movement speed that works in combat when you're moving so you're always stacking up this movement speed okay and then it gives you Unsinkable gain 25% slow resist and let me tell you guys because red Buffs were added to be a global buff past I don't know 20 minutes or something I don't know the exact timing everyone is going to have more slows in the game and I think a lot of the Champions that I'm facing these days you know for example here just the echo Q slow that's a slow right enemies will have Ash that's a slow enemies will have vgo with red buff like there's just a lot of slows in the game and I never feel like the unsinkable 25% slow resist would be wasted like I often feel like it's a very strong actually a very strong effect it's going to help you you know if you get hit by that zillion e 99% slow that's only going to be a 75% slow it's really good guys just trust me simply put I have seen the the light of dead man plate but take a look at this okay this is the forbidden Shen ultimate at level six recall buy ionian boots of Lucidity and because we are playing mid Lan also this works top Lan sometimes you can just ult onto your jungler and not miss any minions from the wave and because we are running ionian boots and we are running ultimate Hunter okay this is a h little graphic made by soy from our Discord server so we have a 200 base cool down okay if we have just ionian boots that gets reduced by 26 seconds but since we're running ultimate Hunter our base cool down with no ultimate Hunter Stacks is actually 187 seconds so when you add Lucidity boots to the mix you're reducing that cool down by a further you know 22 seconds or something depending on how many ultimate Hunter Stacks there are my point being Rush ionian boots of Lucidity get more ultimates with that said we can now get into the core build okay the core item build Rush ionian boots of Lucidity then we purchase bom Cinder if we are into a physical damage matchup we will purchase an early chain West okay and you can either upgrade this chain West directly into a dead man's plate if you need the movement speed or you can mix in the hollow Radiance right here okay so we are going to purchase Hollow Radiance and dead man plate as our first two completed items into magic damage matchups we will simply Rush Hollow Radiance and then build dead man plate after what makes this build so strong is that you can reliably build it in every single game which means that you're super familiar with the damage output and the tankiness of your Champion during the first 20 minutes of the game and now you might be questioning okay P where is Titanic Hydra isn't this item the reason why you literally started playing Shen again why would you now start building dead man plate and Hollow Radiance okay well I have an explanation the Champions that I am facing in my games have felt like they deal a lot of damage if I purchase Titanic Hydra as my first item I will be left with no resistances remember that Titanic Hydra gives you HP and attack damage okay but Hollow Radiance gives you HP and resistances dead man blade gives you HP and resistances as well as pseudo attack damage as we discussed in the gold efficiency calculations so simply put I have no space for Titanic Hydra even though it is a perfect item for Shen in vacuum okay not perfect but it's it's a really fun item to build and it's really strong item it simply doesn't fit into this build and if you're looking at the third item we no longer have a need for Titanic Hydra because Hollow Radiance gives us the wave clear now some of you might still be questioning if Hollow Rance is actually a good item and I will tell you that it gives you wave clear that is not even comparable okay I mean you should say it the other way around right Sunfire Cape is not even comparable in wave clear to hollow Radiance because Hollow Radiance literally just boom boom boom boom boom boom chain one shots waves like it's a little bit below Titanic Hydra in terms of wave clear but you actually get more CES with it because Titanic Hydra I feel like it's very easy to miss last hits with that item because the thing is that you cannot control the splash correctly and sometimes you will hit something that you didn't mean to hit and it does not have any kind of execute benefit where Hollow Radiance actually has this effect that if a minion were to die from two ticks of hollow radiances damage specifically the ulate damage then it will simply execute them and this will secure you a lot of Minion kills and simply put like it gives us enough wave clear and we have no need for Titanic Hydra well then what do we build as third item well I'm sure glad you ask here's my list of situational items that I like building from the top are the most common ones that I buy specifically KN swow and sterox gauge okay I will talk about these two in particular so let's start with sterox Gauge first of all Shen base ad Buffs so then STX gaug is more valuable because it gives you bonus attack damage based on on your base ad okay so that's nice STX cage I feel like is the tankiest item that you can purchase as third item because you have already armor and Magic resistance if you purchase thex gauge now you will get 2,000 HP Shield you will get tenacity which is tankiness in some way because you are able to dodge more damage when you're not being crowd controlled as much but more specifically like the sterox gate Shield is super strong like it's really crazy strong because this is literally it is a 2,000 Shield okay I'm not even kidding it's a second HP bar that you get at 30% maximum HP I like it it's solid if you're like strong in the game and you feel like you need to be able to dive in if the enemies have more CC ster cage is a perfect third item then the other one is kns wow this is a more supportive option but I felt it was necessary to build this in a lot of the games that I was playing because I tend to play around a strong player in our team so for example in this game you know we have a Samir that is very fed and if our support camil we camil would normally not buy nwow right if support is not buying nights vow I will buy nights wow put it on my ADC and that will make sure that our ADC stays alive more and this is how you win games simply put like you are very strong as a fighter uh during the first 20 minutes but then you start falling off okay if you're ahead of the curve STX gauge can make that be you know 25 minutes of being strong but still at the late game you're still going to be Shen right and your job will be to protect carries okay so during the first 20 okay okay let's put it this way let's talk about like different phases of the game laning phase your job is to kill opponent if it's not possible then your job is to get all the experience so if you're into something like a copia matchup or into a darus matchup in the Top Lane you're not going to Soler kill them okay that's just simple the way you're going to play those laning phases is you're going to minimize damage taken you're going to get all the experience and you're going to get off a couple of good ultimates now once we get to that kind of midgame transition when you have completed the dead man Spate or Hollow Radiance depending on what you went first you will start being this kind of playmaker okay you will catch side waves and then you will use your dead man speed and you will catch people like dead man's movement speed is actually quite crucial for doing this by the way here I'm doing a little bit of wiggling just to bait The Twist the Fate In then I tried to block the gold card but unfortunately twister F actually cast it on Talia um but I want to talk about dead mass plade movement speed actually because did you know that Shen's e speed scales with movement speed so Shen's e Dash speed is 800 plus 100% of your movement speed now theoretically this would make it so that you know your TOS will hit faster when you purchase movement speed items but I went into practice tool and checked and the difference is like very minor so in this example comparison we have no boots Lucidity boots and lucidity boots plus dead man blate fully stacked and you can see the Dead Man's plate hits maybe one frame before the others so the items effect on Thor speed is insignificant however where the movement speed really shines is catching up to opponents chasing or running away simply put I feel like dead man plate allows me to do more stuff and allows me to make play are normally not possible here we're going to take a small ultimate on the Talia try to save her open up with a Q maybe should have opened up with a e to try to save the Talia more I'm just so used to opening up with Q because it's more reliable it can burn enemy flashes and then you can ta on top of the opponents once they are slowed and they have burned their flash so here we are going to see Hollow Radiance wave clear in action right we're going to catch the bot wave boom okay AO attack boom Hollow Radiance boom and another boom and then we go again boom and I would have missed that one minion but because imilate executes from double the damage threshold then we got that also because of the nerves to bomy Cinder and its uh HP scaling of damage it actually makes much more sense to uh rush you know Hollow Radiance because you actually get much more value out of completing the item in comparison to just sitting on the bom Cinder component here the Twisted Fate is looking killable because we have camil walking up towards us and you can see I do a lot of baithing like I will recall here because I know twist fate sees me and then we're going to do a beautiful qw during the E to stop the gold card from stunning me so that we can input damage after the Taun because we are not stunned in my play style I actually take a lot of inspiration from muggy Felix who I believe is the Europe West goat of solq okay I will show you a clip here guys so I'm playing Chen versus muggy Felix velos and look at his movement okay he has rushed chelia so he has more movement speed than me and the guy is just moving in and out of my to range because he's trying to bait me into taunting so that the rail can Flash over the wall and kill me this kind of purposeful mind games and baiting technology is something that is much more pronounced when you have a movement speed Advantage this is why I love dead man plade so much it allows you to be really annoying for the opponents and that's one of my strengths as a player uh maybe for my team as well not so much maybe for the enemy team here we're going to use the movement speed from the wing Moon plate to catch up to the Twisted Fate and the cartus and we are simply going to keep chasing and notice that the winged Moon plate movement speed here is actually significant in all allowing me to get this kill without wasting my flash which then enables a next play uh in the case that this game would
