one of the reasons why lone deals are so popular in football is due to the perception of the being less risk for everyone involved for the parent Club they've lost nothing if the player sets the welder lights on loan they've just got themselves a more valuable asset or someone who they can integrate back into their first team and for the player and the loaning Club themselves if things don't work out at least they haven't committed to anything long term I mean really what is the worst that could possibly happen hmm well I'm here to tell you sometimes quite a lot Chelsea paid 10 million pounds to take dwell Felix on loan for just four and a half months of this season plus a further 6 million pounds to cover his 250 000 pound a week wages and in return he got sent off on his debut in the west London Derby between Chelsea and Fulham and he has scored just three goals and made zero assists in 18 appearances at Stamford Bridge that is a cost of over 5 million pounds per goal contribution on route to Chelsea's Worst season in almost 30 years Rangers made Aaron Ramsey the highest paid player in all of Scotland for the second half of last season covering 45 000 pounds a week of his enormous salary Juventus on top of a 2 million pound loan fee in what was viewed as a huge coup for the club but he only made five appearances in the Scottish Premiership throughout that time and after coming on as a sub attitudes in last season's Europa League final against eintracht Frankfurt Ramsay was the only player to miss in the penalty shootout in what was Ranger's biggest game for a generation or how about Simone zatza he of ridiculous Euro 2016 penalty run up and Miss Fame who set West Ham United back 5 million euros in fees and 3.5 million euros in wages and scored an incredible zero goals in 11 games before shuffling off to Valencia instead age 31 zazar has been without a club for the entirety of the 2022-23 season when I tell you that none of those three are bad enough on a pound-for-pound basis taking cost contribution and all-around damage inflicted into account to make my seven you will be well aware that we are dealing with some seriously Dreadful loan signings I should point out that I am excluding Jean Kevin Augustine and Ricky Alvarez who were ultimately probably the two worst loan signings of all time in terms of overall impact because it was Clauses in their loan agreements that forced permanent transfers which is where the actual damage was caused it's a bit of a technicality but I have already discussed both the length on this channel in the past including an entire video recently about Augustine so I thought that I'd stick solely to the lone aspect in today's video right without further Ado then who had five Lane moves over the course of his career four of which were pretty terrible and the exception coming on loan at the farm club of his parent Club in the third tier of Finnish football here are the seven worst loan signings of all time seventh Jose Rodriguez we're off to a strong start and when I say strong I actually mean abysmal and when I say start I am of course excluding my typically rambling introduction Jesse Rodriguez went from being the next big thing at Real Madrid to being part of a two-man Reggae on band who couldn't get in the Stoke City team in barely the blink of an eye and I'm not even particularly exaggerating in the 2013-14 season less than a decade ago Hesse made 31 appearances in all competitions as a 20 year old alongside Karen Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo in a rather it seemed that won the UEFA Champions League he won the Champions League again just two years later this time making 38 appearances which prompted a 25 million euro move to PSG hesse's career stalled a little in the French Capital it would be fair to admit where he made just 14 appearances in his first half season before being shipped out on loan to Las Palmas but his arrival was still held as being a real Cooper Stoke City just the following summer Stoke had signed more cultured players under Mark Hughes than they had done under Tony pulis with varying degrees of success and her say was perhaps the worst of the lot Stoke paid a fee of 6.75 million pounds to take essay on loan for the season in addition to paying half of his 130 000 a week wages that is 65 000 pounds a week in case any of you were struggling or about 3 million pounds for their season hesse's partner ARA Ruiz apparently didn't fancy relocating to the potteries from Paris don't know why and went on Celebrity Big Brother instead where he spent 5 000 Euros on text messages to voter off the show whilst demanding that she be sent to prison they later got back together during his time at Stoke Hesse scored one goal and made one assist in 13 appearances looking thoroughly disinterested throughout most of those games as stoke's nine seasons in the Premier League came to an end ultimately Stoke pinned an awful lot of Hope and money on Hesse as Marco on outovich's replacement he wasn't just useless and expensive but also incredibly disruptive and his role in that relegation earns him a thoroughly deserved spot in this seven 6. Daniel Sturridge you could be forgiven for having forgotten that Daniel's Sturridge ever went on loan to West Bromwich Albion but I am here to remind you of that fact and for that West Brom fans I can only apologize I don't think that there can be any doubts about Sturgis talents and we're not for injuries I think that he could have become a premier league in England Great three and a half years after scoring 24 goals in a single season alongside Luis Suarez and Raheem Sterling Storage joined West Brom on loan at the end of the 2018 January transfer window with the baggies languishing at the foot of the Premier League table under Alan Podge with the time but still only three points from safety it was hoped that Sturridge who had scored eight goals in 12 games of Bolton in his only previous low move could provide the necessary spark and Magic to drag West Brom away from the drop and the buggies were willing to pay 2 million pounds whilst covering storages 120 000 pound a week wages for the duration of the loan deal in order to find out unfortunately for West Brom though not all that surprising it has to be said Sturridge got injured in only his third game in the Hawthorns after he had played Just 78 minutes of football for the club and he played Just 38 minutes more between that setback and the end of the season Sturridge ended up costing West Brom close to 50 000 pounds for every minute of football that he played for them which is about 800 pounds a second and an infinite amount of money per goal or a CIS made because he didn't make any since West Brom had placed almost all of their trust and budgets in Sturridge as their only January arrival other than Ali Gabor who never played for the club the fact that he did nothing for them pretty much sealed their fate West Brom finished bottom of the Premier League following eight seasons in English football's Top Flight and given the cost the lack of contribution and the massive Financial consequences that come with relegation from the Premier League it's not all that surprising that our first two inclusions have quite a lot in common fat Davey zalka Premier League clubs might be the worst offenders when it comes to terrible loan signings and terrible signings in general in truth but they're not the only ones in his first stint at vertebraiman Davey zelker was one of the most highly rated young forwards in Europe signed by Bremen for a fear of 50 000 Euros from hoffenheim as an 18 year old he hit double figures in the 2014-15 campaign in a Brahman said that was relegated in addition to scoring prolifically for multiple German youth teams including 14 goals in only 15 games for the under-19s and winning the Golden Boot of the 2014 under 19 Euros which Germany won being dubbed the next Miroslav closer linked with Real Madrid at that time he ended up signing for RB Leipzig instead for 8 million euros a record fee received by a second Bundesliga side zelka's time at Leipzig was I'll let little bit underwhelming as was all but his debut campaign at her to Berlin after that but when the opportunity came up to resign him on transfer deadline day in January 2020 Bremen didn't think twice despite enduring significant financial hardship at the time they paid a million euros to take zelka on loan for the next 18 months whilst agreeing to a clause which stipulated that they would have to pay a further 15 million euros to sign him permanently if they were in the top flight at the end of zelka's loan deal in his first half season zelka scored no goals in 11 Bundesliga games as Bremen narrowly avoided relegation by the playoffs and in his second season he scored three goals in 26 games in total and this time his lack of goals would prove fatal as Bremen were relegated in 17th Place in the Bundesliga no one could ever fault zelka's commitments or work rate but he scored three goals in 34 games as one of bremen's highest earners and the only saving grace of their allegation harsh as this may sound is that they weren't obligated to sign on a permanent basis for that massive 15 million euros fourth Renato Sanchez Renato Sanchez's short career has already had more ups and downs than Fulham or Norwich in recent years at his time at Swansea City was a particular low light Sanchez really burst onto the scene Mika Richard's style a Euro 2016 where he played in all but one game for Portugal as an 18 year old started in the quarterfinals semi-final and the final itself and scored Portugal's only goal against Poland in the quarterfinals that took that game to penalties even though he had only played 24 League games and made his Benfica debut That season before the Euros had even begun Bayern Munich had agreed to pay a potential 80 million euros for Sanchez albeit 45 million euros of that in future adults Sanchez may only have made 25 appearances in his debut campaign in Bavaria but when Swansea City struck a deal to take him on loan The Following Season it was hailed as one of the signings of the summer and an extraordinary coup for a team that had only narrowly avoided relegation the previous season to say that Sanchez was disappointing at Swansea would be an understatement on par with describing a nuclear apocalypse as being somewhat inconvenient Sanchez for all of his obvious talents Illustrated practically none of it in South Wales he had problems with both his thigh and with his hamstring even when fit he showed absolutely nothing and he didn't play a single game of football from January 2nd onwards Sanchez's most infamous moment in a Swansea City shirt came when he passed the ball into a carabao advertising hoarding and even his own compatriot manager Carlos Carvajal who arrived in the December recommended that Sanchez return to Benfica claiming that he quote stopped learning when he left Benfica Swansea paid Bayern Munich 7 million pounds to take Sanchez on Loan in the 2017-18 season an incredible fee for a club of their size in addition to paying him roughly 50 000 pounds a week that worked out at about ten thousand pounds a minute that he actually played he didn't make a single goal contribution across his 12 Premier League outings and Swansea were relegated at the end of the season Sanchez's career has recovered since then at Bayern Leal and now PSG but for whatever reason his time at Swansea was abysmal third Islam slamani Islam slamani is a strange footballer there aren't too many other ways around it incredibly prolific at his best and totally useless at his worst he scored 31 goals for sporting club to Portugal the season before Leicester city splurged a club record 28 million pounds on him but he only scored eight Premier League goals in five years contracted to the foxes and then all of a sudden at Monaco he dropped seven assists in 18 games despite having looked like the most one-dimensional one-touch finisher and only having made six League assists in the three years prior to that therapache got the worst of all worlds it would be fair to say when they signed slimani online from Leicester in the summer of 2018. the Turkish Giants paid Leicester 1.5 million euros to take slimani on loan for the season in addition to paying the entirety of his roughly 100 000 Euro week wages which works out at 4.2 million euros over the duration of the loan it made slimani one of the highest paid players in the Turkish Superman league and in return he scored 24 goals that season to fire Fenner to the title no not really otherwise he wouldn't be third in this seven slamani was utter dog Dart he scored just one goal in 15 Turkish Super League appearances which put him tied on League goals for the campaign with fenerbatch a center-back Martin skirtel hardly ideal for your big money Star Center forward who has scored 41 goals from 91 caps for Algeria fenobar Chase slumped to a sixth place finish in the Super League their joint worst showing since the 1986-87 season and they only scored 44 goals all season their lowest tally since the 85-86 campaign there are more high-profile Dreadful loan signings but few that have actually been as costly relative to the club's finances and catastrophic in terms of their all-round contribution second Ulta Melo Chelsea's loan deal for Joel Felix mentioned in the introduction just about manages to avoid inclusion in this seven but there is one loan signing from this season that does make the cut Felix was extremely expensive and has only made three gold contributions in 18 games for Chelsea but at least he has played 18 games and there have been occasions in which he has been one of Chelsea's better players admittedly that is setting quite a low bar what's more what real damage did Felix do other than putting another dent in Chelsea's finances supposing that he had played like 1986 Maradona in the second half of this season what Chelsea might have finished eighth instead of 12th hardly earth-shattering stuff after Melo on the other hand set Liverpool back alone for a 4.5 million Euros or 3.9 million pounds plus either all or almost all of his 98 000 a week wage demands putting his total cost to the Reds for the season at an excess of 8 million pounds in addition to the loan fee Liverpool had an option to buy art sir who Juventus paid a potential 82 million euros to sign from Barcelona in 2020 whilst miralem pyamic headed in the opposite direction in what was definitely all above board and not at all dodgy for around 33 million pounds Liverpool haven't just confirmed that they won't be triggering that option they deny that it ever even existed signed as a stop Gap with the Liverpool unable to get their hands on Jude Bellingham last summer and hoping to fill that gap for 12 months before going back in for the barossia Dortmund midfielder in some ways it made perfect sense berata who Lionel Messi once described as being similar to Javi played just 30 minutes of football this season which came in a 4-1 Champions League group stage defeat against Napoli despite hiring his own Fitness coach and his own physio Arthur has been sidelined for much of the campaign for injuries and he played three times as many games for Liverpool's under-21s and even more minutes as he did in the Liverpool first team given Liverpool's very well documented Midfield woes this season the fact that Arthur was supposed to be the solution to those problems and that without him providing those answers they endured a wretched first half of the Season it would be fair to say that whilst not wholly his fault the loan signing about Sir rather than recruiting another player in Midfield probably costs Liverpool Champions League qualification this season and that combined with them costing them 615 000 pounds a minute played is enough to earn him a spot in second zero honorable mentions very quickly in terms of just some honorable mentions and obviously I can't mention them all since there have been hundreds if not thousands of rubbish loan deals probably at least one or two from every club and fans of those clubs are probably thinking that they should have featured in this seven as well as those who I mentioned in the introduction namely dwell Felix Aaron Ramsey and Simone zarzar plus Jean Kevin Augustine and Ricky Alvarez who missed out on technicalities the likes of Danny drinkwater's Low move to Aston Villa midfielder's Kim kelstrom and Dennis Suarez's regrettable Stinson Arsenal Sol nigaz is costly but forgettable spell at Chelsea Facundo ferreira's low move to Newcastle United where he didn't play a single minute of football rocket Jr's disastrous low move to Leeds United Gonzalo higuain's 18 million euro low move to AC Milan where he scored just a goals in all competitions and finally Borussia dortmund's loan deal for 30 million euro Real Madrid signing hania Jesus all came close to featuring amongst many others of course right now for your top spot first Radamel Falcao it isn't a great reflection of Radamel falcao's experiences out on loan that when I put his Premier League low move top of this seven some of you will still be wondering which one quite frankly Falco could have featured twice in this seven on that basis Falcao who is one of Colombia's greatest ever footballers and was undoubtedly one of the best forwards in Europe Atletico Madrid before he was signed by Monaco in 2013 made even less of a contribution at Chelsea than he did at Manchester United but he was still a much worse loan signing for the Red Devils than he was even for the Blues following his shot move to Monaco Falcao ruptured his crucial ligaments during his debut campaign and in his second season he played only three games of football falcao's stock was still sufficiently high the following summer for Manchester United to pay Monaco 6 million pounds to take him on loan for the season whilst covering all of his 190 000 pound a week wages in total the low move set man united back 16 million pounds for a single season but after falling to seventh as champions in their first season without Sir Alex Ferguson Falcao was seen as the Marquis signing that was meant to take Manchester United back to the top of the Premier League under Louis van Gaal he didn't falkow still looked way off the pace after recovering from his long-term setback and the physicality of the Premier League probably wasn't the best fit in those circumstances he scored just four goals and made five assists across 29 appearances All Season not exactly befitting of a striker who cost more in his single season than Manchester United paid to take Carlos teves on loan for two Manchester United Rose from Seventh the previous seasons of fourth getting back in the Champions League but hardly laying down a marker that they should be feared or that the post Fergie era would represent anything other than a severe aggression falcau doesn't just take top spot because he is one of the most expensive loan signings of all time and did next to nothing to justify that fee but also because it was so pivotal that Manchester United got their recruitment right that summer in the context of what has happened over the past decade and with falcau they couldn't have got it much more wrong still at least that served as a warning for everyone else not to make the same mistake oh bloody owl Chelsea it must be said have a pretty abysmal record when it comes to taking plays on loan especially for a club that is so familiar with loaning players out you have had falcau joau Felix Sol nigaz Dennis Zakaria Gonzalo Higuain Alexander Pato who barely played In fairness and did at least score once Ricardo Quaresma and Fabio right anyway now that I've made Chelsea fans even more miserable for absolutely no good reason at the end of what has been a pretty miserable season for them without my help I suppose that is probably a good place in which to end thank you all
