[Music] there are thousands of things in 2020 you need to know about pittsburgh before moving here i have taken time out of my day to narrow it down to only seven how what check it out all right so the first thing you need to know about moving to pittsburgh 2020 is traffic all right so we are coming down the hill it's the green tree hill we call it and heading down into the fort pit tunnels on i-376 interstate 376. this is the common area or the common path from the international airport pittsburgh international airport if you're coming from the south you're if you're coming from the west now this is going to be a bottleneck because banksville road you can see off to the right there we may be trying to merge over to banksville people from banksville may be trying to merge over um on to 376 to go through the tunnels you can see the blue truck here he might be trying to get over so this is where the first bottleneck is the second bottleneck is route 51 and where the blue truck is we may be trying to get off to go to route 51 and those guys are going to try coming over into our lane so you have all these vehicles going all these different directions merging all over the place so there are two bottlenecks right there and our third bottleneck is going to be coming up here is when we go into the actual tunnels so it's two lanes going into the tunnels 55 miles an hour you'd be hard-pressed to ever go 55 miles an hour and it's two in the morning now we don't understand it as locals it's two lanes of traffic just because there's a tunnel over top of you doesn't mean you need to slow down you can see it's well lit um so if it's a two lane road on the country you wouldn't slow down so why do you slow down for tunnels so if you're not a local you're coming in our town do not slow down going into the tunnels so you can see it's well lit it was actually built in 1960 for a cost of 14 million dollars and it's been renovated over time some upgrades have happened but it's it's an amazing sight it's an amazing engineering feat and the views coming out of this town are amazing because when you go into the tunnel it's just trees there's no city no inclination there's gonna be a city when you come out you come out bam look at that there's a whole city we didn't even know was going to come now we're coming on to the fort pitt bridge what's amazing is when we come into the four pit tunnels we are left and right next to each other but when we come out of the tunnels we immediately cross over top each other to make it on this bridge so you can see the green signs there you can go every direction left right straight whatever just for this clip we're going to go off to the right we're going to be able to make a left to go over to grand street which will take us into the city of pittsburgh you can see the monongahela river off to the right we can go to the south hills we can go to the east hills and monroeville many options this way second thing i want you to know about pittsburgh before you move here 2020 is very important it's about our cost of living is it expensive is it cheap let's dig in and find out okay so let's talk about the cost of living in pittsburgh cost of living in pittsburgh is generally lower than most places i can tell you now the median home value of property used to be around 140 000 it's worth its way up to 160. it takes a couple years for the stats to catch up we're looking at 2017 stats but i've been willing to bet 2019-2020 the average home sale price is around 180 000 okay so according to economic policy institute in washington dc according to the site a family of four it's going to cost just under 80 000 to live in pittsburgh in a modest lifestyle and that's allegheny county now allegheny county is our most expensive county there are butler county westmoreland county washington county a lot of relocation people always try to live in those areas in a community in the city of pittsburgh yes you're going to save money on taxes but you have more wear and tear more travel time etc so now if you want to compare a cost of living a family of four from pittsburgh to our sister city on the east side of pennsylvania philadelphia they are right around eighty five thousand dollars a year so that family of four budget just under 80 000 a year is around 6 400 a month in expenses and now if you are two adults it's just around 3 500 a month which equals out to be 45 000 annually all right so the third thing i want you to know is beautiful bridges 2020 moving to pittsburgh we have some amazing bridges 446 of them to be exact so this bridge you're looking at here is one of my favorites i'd say it's one of the most beautiful because how well lit it is it's uh the smithfield street bridge and it's going to bridge the gap of a monongahela river from south side lower south side this is actually station square which is part of the south side over to the city of pittsburgh now it's the oldest steel bridge still in service in america this is actually the third bridge on this exact site if you can even believe it okay so we had already spoken about the four pit tunnels this is the fort pit bridge it is one of the uh world's first computer designed bowstring arch bridges and is the first double decker bowstring arch bridge in america again look at this thing at night this is going to be your main artery and again some of your main headaches whenever it comes to a rush hour trust me on that all right so this is the roberto clemente bridge otherwise known as sixth street bridge named after the pittsburgh pirate the late pittsburgh pirate baseball player and philanthropist now they crosses over the allegheny river and connects downtown pittsburgh to the north shore during baseball season the sidewalks here are gonna be alive with fans we have picklesburgh which is a very popular festival as well during the summer all right so the fourth thing i want you to know about pittsburgh is stadiums arenas entertainment pittsburgh is a big sports town plenty of them so right behind me is ppg paints arena it's home to the multi-time stanley cup champions nhl professional hockey team pittsburgh penguins this is also the home to indoor concerts ice skating events circuses and during the inclement winter weather whatever we have that needs to come to town we'll be here at pbg paints arena it is something you must see built in 2010 come see it next is gonna be pnc park i'll meet you there okay stop number two is pnc park it is a national baseball field made of grass one of the very few that are actually grass baseball fields beautiful inside constantly voted one of the top 10 baseball parks around and it was built in 2001 primarily of steel and limestone which is kind of rare nowadays but kind of common for the pittsburgh area there aren't very many concerts or other events that i'm aware of it's primarily all baseball but one of the best things about this stadium is going to be behind me and that is it is perched a budding the allegheny county river so you can rent a boat if you have a boat you can pull a boat right up to the side and moor it there for the day drink have fun hot dogs hamburgers whatever it is you want come and enjoy the game some of it all of it party some people don't even go in pnc park stop number two of three all right so our third and final stop is heinz field behind me it is home to the legendary nfl pro football team the pittsburgh steelers now there are many other events here like the rib fest yum yum yum which is one of my favorites um big time big name concerts like elton john taylor swift those type are going to be performing here in the summer months it's so awesome out here that if you couldn't get a ticket you could sit out here on around the stadium and steal here trust me i've done it before but you know one of my favorite things about this awesome stadium is and you're not going to see it is it's on the bank of the ohio river um and it kind of touches the allegheny as well so riverfront access again just like pnc park heinz field is a staple of preseason football games many many boats raft off each other and tie off out there for the rib fest and other events and it's a heinz is a home-grown ketchup mustard except condiment type company pnc park that was a stop before us pittsburgh national corporation is a local bank so local businesses keeping the stadiums afloat we love it you gotta check out steeler game here but i'm gonna give you a little bit of advice don't come in january okay we have been through four of the seven things only three left can you believe it only three left but before i get to those three what i need you to do is click on the subscribe button to enjoy more videos about the city of pittsburgh click on the little bell and make sure you check all notifications and by all means if you want to know anything me to do a video on anything related to pittsburgh you can simply um send a message through carrier pension you can do smoke signals you can actually use the telephone what is that telephone you can text me again that's the telephone shoot me over a little email but the most important thing that my favorite thing the most valuable would be to drop a comment below and let me know the fifth thing i want you to know about pittsburgh 2020 before you move here is dense residential riverfront property all right so you can see from this drone shot we don't have residential homes that are waterfront unfortunately like you may find at a lake or you may find oceanfront down in florida or something like that pittsburgh is industrial and commercial along the riverside but you will see those buildings some of those buildings are condo buildings so we have dense population there if you want to riverfront you will be in a condo building or an apartment building but the views are spectacular of the rivers sunrise sunset fireworks absolutely amazing the sixth thing i want you to know about pittsburgh 2020 public transportation or mass transit we got it we've got the t which is a train that takes out the suburbs then we have plenty of buses comes another one now i didn't miss my opportunity mass transit did i mention we have mass transit tons of good public transportation where i am at now is the t station the t stands for train imagine that how ingenious and what it does is it comes from the inner city to other stops in the inner city and it also goes out into the south only the south it doesn't go north east or west and i don't know why but it just does so another thing we have our buses all part of the port authority transit pat transit they call it so the buses do go everywhere like spiders let's go take a look at gateway station i'll show you what it's like all right and the last thing i want to tell you about 2020 pittsburgh you need to know before you move here is we are a foodie town i'm just kidding not mcdonald's we really are foodie town though foodies love pittsburgh and i'm going to show you three hot spots one is right behind me in this 88 95 98 degree weather we have in pittsburgh in july ice cream is key so 1914 the milkshake factory was created there are multiple locations in and around the greater pittsburgh area and sometimes we'll even see them at the pittsburgh penguin games at ppg paints arena that i spoke about milkshake factory all right and stop number two is only found in pittsburgh it's synonymous with pittsburgh it's been around for decades way before i've been alive and that is from annie brothers they are known for their sandwiches it doesn't matter what you get on the sandwich fish chicken whatever it's about how the sandwich is made greasy fresh cut fries a must coleslaw packed between two fresh italian slices of bread again doesn't matter what it is in between the the substance it's the sandwich and how it's constructed itself it's been around forever pittsburgh staple i can remember a long time ago whenever i was young just turned 21 maybe a little bit under 21. and um after a long nights of drinking club and partying everybody knew to stop up that alcohol we all met at pirmani brothers at 2 2 15 2 30 in the morning look that old guy right there he must have just had a bunch of drinks he's going to get a whole bunch of sandwich to soak up that alcohol from annie brothers got to check it out all right so the next stop are the galley kitchens this particular one here is small men galley there's a federal galley and there are other gala kitchens the way it was created it's a very cool concept indigenous to pittsburgh now not nearly as tenured as primanti's by about 50 decades but anyway this it's a very cool story they were in the military in the navy around galley kitchens all the time you know got out wanted to start a restaurant so they named it the smallmouth galley federal galley whatever it has been a popular popular hit it's um super good food definitely not drunk food like you described in permanence but definitely not fine dining either high quality good food have just about everything so you want to check out um smallmouth gallery federal galley anything like that all around the pittsburgh area all right so i just told you about the seven super cool things you need to know about pittsburgh in 2020 before moving here if you have any more questions about relocating pittsburgh call me dm me text me smoke single carry a pigeon i'm working with a lot of relocation people moving into the city of pittsburgh and some moving out fools i don't know why they're moving out but feel free to reach out to me i'd love to help [Music]
