[Music] what's up guys how you doing welcome to another video and today we're talking about one of my favorite cameras of all time now when i say of all time i mean in my time taking photography seriously which really is since about 2012. and one of my favorite cameras that i have used in that time and one of the cameras that i used for the longest period during that time is this right here my beloved canon 7d mark ii now i've actually owned three of these during my time i've only got one now i used two of these as my two main bodies for a long period of time and one of those i replaced with an older one which i had prior to that hence why i've had three i didn't have three at one time two at one time was the most i had now i think this camera now is largely overlooked you don't really hear people talking too much about this and i think it is awesome today i'm going to talk about why and with it being the 7d mark ii i thought i would share with you seven reasons why i think this camera is still fantastic so first of all just to touch i suppose on a brief history of this camera the 7d mark ii was released in 2015 and it replaced the canon 7d mark 1 which is another camera that i owned prior to this the mark ii was a massive step up from the mark one something i was really excited to get my hands on and it didn't let me down once i got it now sadly i think either at the end of last year at the beginning of this year cannon announced that there would not be a 7d mark iii they weren't going to continue the 7d series instead they released the camera which is fairly comparable to this which was the canon 90d and the one that kind of i suppose they're going to continue that series and they felt that they had two very similar crop body dslrs and hence why they discontinued the 7d series nowadays when it comes to cameras in this kind of range and by that i mean like faster cameras suitable maybe for sports wildlife something like that you don't hear people talk about this as much anymore they're talking about should i get the 90d or should i go for full frame with the 1dx or the 1dx mark ii or should i look at the new canon r6 or r5 and yet actually for the money that it costs and i'm gonna touch on the money in a little while the 7d mark ii is fantastic so before i start sharing with you my reasons if you also like the 7d mark ii make sure you hit that like button for me it helps me out loads on my channel and i really really appreciate it whilst you're there think about subscribing if you haven't already loads of other videos to come on my channel which i think you might enjoy so reason number one and i mentioned this just a little while ago and that is the price you can pick this camera up now for such an amazing price if you ever look on ebay you can find one of these used for like 300 pounds i mean 300 pounds for a dslr of this quality and the stuff this camera can do is really really good people contact me a lot about sports cameras and they say hey look i'm on a tight budget what kind of camera should i look at i don't have the money to buy 1dx or anything like that and pretty much every time i say to them hey have you checked out the 7d mark ii because you can pick up one of those used on ebay for 300 pounds and it will do loads of stuff that you need it to do for sports really really amazing price for this type of camera that takes me straight on to reason number two and that is that this is such a capable camera when it comes to fast action or sports and within that i'll include wildlife bird photography anything that's moving birds in flight sports anything like that this is fantastic it's a really fast camera it shoots at 10 frames per second lightning quick and if you have the right type of memory card you can shoot bursts of up to i think nearly 40 frames uh raw and loads in jpeg like hundreds i think in jpeg so crazy crazy fast camera really really good when it comes to any kind of sports and action in that same kind of theme we're moving on to reason number three why i think this is so good and that is the autofocus system now when this was first launched there was loads of talk about the autofocus system it near enough had the same autofocus system as the canon 1dx at the time it has 65 cross-type autofocus points that you can choose the autofocus is lightning quick and it works really really well when paired with io servo mode again making it really really good to use for your sports and action fantastic auto focus in this camera i've used this paired with the 1dx for a long long period of time and i've not really noticed any difference when it comes to autofocus specifically i absolutely think this pairs up fights equally against the 1dx when it comes to autofocus okay moving into reason number four and this might be a simple one and something that maybe some people won't think to be important but i absolutely do and that is that it has two memory card slots it has a cf uh compact flash memory card and it has a slot for your sd card now i know some people might want them to both be the same but hey the important thing for me is that it has the two memory card slots now that is so important when you're shooting any kind of professional work the fact that i could be simultaneously recording two files to two different memory cards gives me that peace of mind means that i'm gonna be okay if one of those memory cards has an error something like that i'll be able to easily and get quick access to my photos another thing i liked about that is that when i was working like pitch side for an event and i needed to take one of these cards out to be able to put it in my laptop and download some images whilst i would still prefer to have the two cards in the immediate short term if i was doing something on my laptop and something happened in front of me i still had that other memory card in there and i could quickly get the shot really really love the fact this has two memory cards in it that differs from the 7d mark one which didn't have that and loads of other cameras now including really modern cameras like the eos r for example only have the one card slot moving into reason number five and actually it's not necessarily a reason in itself but it's like an anti-reason and by that i mean one of the reasons why people would overlook this camera is because it's a crop body sensor and a lot of people think oh well i don't want a crop sensor i want to try and push for a full frame and yeah fine if you want to push the full frame and actually if you're going to go professional in the long run at some point you will want to upgrade to full frame yes absolutely but there is nothing wrong and i mean absolutely nothing wrong with a crop sensor camera most of the time people would never notice right i've had loads of professional sports photos come out of this camera and not once has anyone looked at it and said to me oh i reckon that was taken on a crop sensor because what's the difference that's right if you can get good quality images it doesn't matter if it's a crop sensor or not and in fact again the fact is a crop sensor camera is what helps keep that price so low it doesn't push up into the same kind of price category as your typical full frame camera something like the 1dx moving into reason number six and that is the image quality i love the images that come out of this camera i love the colors i love the way that it gets nice crisp sports photos this has a 20 megapixel sensor i think 20.2 megapixel sensor now yeah fine does it have the same kind of sensor as the crazy 45 something 50 something megapixel sensors that you get in some cameras no it doesn't but when you consider that the canon 1dx mark 3 and the canon r6 two brand brand new up-to-date cameras they also have 20 megapixel sensors 20 megapixels is more than enough for 95 of what you're gonna photograph yes if you want to go out there and shoot big like epic landscapes or maybe portraits weddings something like that where those megapixels really count or maybe if you want to have really awesome cropping ability then yeah fine i get why you would want more than 20 megapixel sensor but 20 megapixels is plenty plenty plenty i've blown up photos from this camera up to big like 60 by 40 centimeter pictures which i have on the wall of my house and it is absolutely fine for that i can't really see why you would be needing more than 20 megapixels for the type of work you're probably looking to do with something like a 7d2 now i know when we're talking image quality people are going to be screaming at me people are going to be getting in the comments right now i see you guys in the comments oh but what about the noise what about the high iso levels well look you know what yeah fine there is a lot of talk about this camera and the low-light capability and the fact that it is not great when you get to those higher iso numbers and yes to a certain extent that can be true but at the same time i use this camera all the time like routinely at iso 3200 iso 4000 when i was shooting indoor sports or photos under floodlights and in fact you know what my first ever national press photo which is in the background up here it is this photo up here that appeared in the guardian that was taken stanford bridge shooting under flood lights at iso i think 4 000 from this camera right here and that came out fine it came out good enough to get into national press so you do not need to worry too much about that if you're going into really dark settings where you're going to be shooting you know iso 6 400 8 000 those kind of numbers yet fine this is maybe going to struggle ever so slightly but actually the iso struggles that everyone worries so much about with this camera my opinion is people worry too much it does just fine unless you're going to be going and shooting by candlelight it's going to work for you don't worry too much about that and the last reason reason number seven that's the amount of accessories and lenses and things like that that are available for this camera now you can get some fantastic canon lenses which are suitable for crop bodies something like the efs 17 to 55 f 2.8 is a fantastic lens and again you can pick one of those up used on ebay for a good good price you want something really wide angle like the efs 10 to 22 mil again a fantastic lens for things like landscapes and there's really wide epic shots some of the third-party companies as well sigma do an awesome crop body lens it's the 18 to 35 f 1.8 f 1.8 on a zoom lens 18 to 35 mil fantastic lens for a crop body i use that compared with the 72 for ages absolutely loved that combination you can get other cheaper accessories too things like a battery grip you want a battery grip for the 7d mark ii well you know what newer make one um i've got it right here newer newer however you want to say it something this like 45 pounds something like that pairs really well with the 72 i used it with this routinely no problems at all worked really really well 40 pounds to get yourself an accessory like this you want to go get yourself a battery grip for the new canon r6 it gonna cost you something like 200 pounds so if you're looking for a camera to keep your budget down well in fact also some of those lenses you can pick up use and some of those accessories is going to help with that which makes this camera even more attractive and that just about rounds off my seven reasons why i think the canon 7d mark ii is still a fantastic camera that should not be overlooked when you were deciding what camera to buy especially if you were trying to work to a bit of a budget if you guys did enjoy this video do me a
