well I now believe Cuba may have done it tonight is the night we come together to celebrate all the amazing shows we'll never get around to watching on television glorious television television has the ability to make us laugh and cry and during certain key parts of Game of Thrones masturbate it oh that's what I'm talking about Jon Snow hi Jon Snow you're my freebie you know I'm so glad they brought Jon Snow back to life that was a nice surprise after 68 years television still manages to surprise us I never imagined my favorite TV mom would be Louie Anderson but he is Louie plays if you haven't seen him he plays Zach Galifianakis his mother on the show baskets originally they were gonna cast a woman for the role but it's very hard to find an actress over 50 who needs a part so they went to Louie fortunately for everyone in this room there are more shows and more roles than ever before and more diversity than ever before this year's nominees are the most diverse ever and here in Hollywood the only thing we value more than diversity is congratulating ourselves on how much we value diversity we the Emmys I'll tell you the Emmys are so diverse this year the Oscars are now telling people we're one of their closest friends we're not by the way but in all seriousness this is a very positive thing and I think we need to stop and take a moment to appreciate how far we've come in fact if you are a person of color in our audience tonight especially if you're a nominee please find a white person right now go ahead it shouldn't be hard there's I see a bunch of them right here just take a moment to reach out and say thanks for your bravery there you go make a rainbow connection I think though isn't that beautiful wasn't that nice television brings people together but television can also tear us apart I mean if it wasn't for television would Donald Trump be running for president no he would be at home what right now quietly rubbing up against his wife malaria while being a good person is hard being a director so he I get to just make my dreams come true it's a privilege and it also creates privilege when you take women people of color trans people queer people and you put them at the center of the story these subjects instead of the objects you change the world we found out [Applause] so I want to thank you my sweet Jeff Bezos because you changed the world and you invited me to do this thing that these people call television but I call a revolution I've always wanted to be part of a movement civil rights movement the feminist movement this TV show allows me to take my dreams about unlikeable Jewish people queer folk trans folk and make them the heroes thank you to the trans community for your lived lives we need to stop violence against transgender women and topple the patriarchy [Applause] [Music] I'm trying to figure out if topple the patriarchy is a good thing for me or not I don't think it is a lot of people wonder what transparent is doing in the Comedy category because it's a pretty I mean they have not season stuff on the show you have to understand transparent was born a drama but it identifies as a comedy dinner political climate I think that veep has torn down the wall between comedy and politics our show started out is the political satire but it now feels more like a sobering documentary so I certainly do his poor vision because he said it meant he could date anybody anyway I could tell many many of my favorite jokes about Gary Garry Shandling whom I miss very much [Applause] but I think it's better to let him do it so Gary hey now you know I shave one leg some when I'm in bed it feels like I'm with a woman and the woman never gives you a clear signal that it's okay to come on isn't this true and I need a clear signal I need a woman with flashlights going he had the most innovative TV show in two different decades that's called the legacy how do you decide what's great in that from what's good in bed I mean is it his size matter cuz you know I have a king-size bed you have children and Garry Shandling winning and losing is not important being nominated Gary what we want oh we won oh thank
