guys welcome back it is Racer X and today I'm actually here with my buddies at Don Davis Dodge Chrysler Jeep here in Arlington Texas and I want to do a cool little comparison between the challenger scat pack and the Challenger r/t yes they're both v8s but you know from a price point perspective there's some differences from an amenities perspective there's some differences and I think it's actually a really cool comparison because oftentimes I'm always comparing the scat pack to the Hellcat and we kind of overlook that 5:7 and that car can actually be a lot of fun so I'm going to compare the two cars today also guys if you are new to the channel please make sure you hit the subscribe button down there in the corner here we go [Music] okay so guess what here we have mrs. X's 2019 Challenger scat pack obviously that's got the shaker package on it and then right behind me here boom there is the 2020 Dodge Challenger r/t and so as we know these have two different power plants in them and the price tag is a little bit different on these two cars so which one is right for you well the driving experience in these two is actually a little bit different and I want to show you the difference between these two cars I want to talk first about price tags so this car here actually stickered right around 51,000 dollars this one here behind me stickers right about $40,000 so there's about a $10,000 price difference this one actually has a few more amenities on it and I know scat packs can be had for somewhere in the mid 40s with the same amenities that this red one has on it so we'll say there's probably about an eight to nine thousand dollar difference between a comparable scat pack and an r/t car and as we know the five seven versus the six four so let's jump into a few other differences on these cars so one of the first things I actually want to point out is despite the power difference between these two cars they actually come with the same tires on the back yes the rim is slightly different however both cars come with that eagle or goodyear eagle RSA two tire that 245 width and I will say that on the the regular r/t that tire does a much better job of holding the power than it does on the scat pack because of that 6.4 liter and the way that thing makes torque it just blows those two 45s off I think on the r/t it feels a little bit more planted but you know what we'll actually kind of drive these here shortly and see how that goes I do want to point out just real quick on the r/t that just has your regular steel brakes on it I believe it is a four piston setup and then when you jump over here to this car it is also a four piston setup however on the on the scat pack you get Brembo brakes a little bit more powerful braking system on the scat pack than you get on the regular r/t so I want to make sure I point that out okay so the really kind of the marquee difference between these two cars is of course the power plant here we have the the 5.7 liter r/t motor from Dodge this thing puts out 372 that's 2 horsepower and exactly 400 pound-feet of torque and as we jump over here to the scat pack we know this thing has has both more torque and more horsepower we're looking at 485 horsepower out of this motor and 475 pound-feet of torque so both naturally aspirated obviously bigger motor a64 so you know what guys we'll have to see the difference when we actually drive these and you know is it gonna be worth the price we'll see okay guys and here we have the interior of the scat pack yes it is a shaker edition it is one of the kind of premium level scat packs that they have out there you can see it does have the Allen Contra or the suede seating it's got the really nice little scat pack there of course this is aftermarket the SRT piece here but as you can see it's got the larger infotainment Center there it's I believe it's a little over eight inches and of course it's got the really pretty white gauges in here really really nice place to sit here guys but I do want to compare this to the inside of the r/t okay and here we actually have the inside of the the r/t Challenger you can see the gauges are a little bit different it actually has a smaller infotainment center here and of course on the seats you don't have that pretty scat pack emblem here or anything like that these are the cloth seats now keep in mind this is a little lower trim level guys you can get the r/t in a little bit higher trim level but otherwise the inside of this is pretty similar I do want to show you one key difference though so now here we sit inside the RT one of the big differences I want to show you when you go down here you basically just have a button for sport which we can actually press it puts the car in a more sporty driving mode however in the scat pack you get you get dynamic driving modes for example you get to change the you get to change the transmission setting you also get to change the steering and there are a couple other little settings in there that you can change this car it is not an option so definitely something that the scat pack has that you need to consider so at first glance when you really take a hard look at these two cars they're very very similar you can see this one actually has the scat pack badge right there and as I walk over here you're gonna see that this one actually has the Hemi badge right here on the side which is still pretty cool there it is BAM and otherwise the gas cap in the car is the same this one actually has the little bit different spoiler on it but that's a spoiler you can also get in the regular scat pack hers has the extended spoiler on it which is an option so you can kind of outfit both cars that way so really the big thing is guys how do they handle how do they drive different let's find out okay I'm actually aboard the 2020 challenger scat pack RT with the five seven liter Hemi and you know what it's just a really nice drivin little car I will say it's very pleasant to drive and you know what it feels it feels pretty balanced as I try and kind of you know give it put it through its paces a little bit I will say upon initial tip in if you're used to driving the scat pack it takes a little bit of a delay and then it goes but it still has a fair amount of punch and I'm actually I've never driven in our team before so this is my first time doing it so I'm actually gonna put this thing in sport mode right now when I hit that I just get kind of a little checkered flag that appears up on the dash and now I'm gonna kind of put this thing through its paces just a little bit and I want to kind of see how the initial tip in feel is on this car I tell you the the car sounds a little different obviously then then the scat pack does its it still has a fair amount of get up and go it certainly gets out of its own way now I will tell you from a torque perspective the torque is still there it still feels solid but it doesn't have quite that that just initial push and surge like you feel on the SCAF pack now does that mean this thing that it performs absolutely not unless you're getting around another corner here and see how it does but I tell you what the car really does feel pretty good but at the end of the day you do feel the difference in power but it still moves I mean I I'm not disappointed at all with the way this thing is pulling and you know what like I said that the the tip-in isn't quite as robust as it is on the six-four but it still feels pretty good so here's the thing about this r/t car I think if you are looking for a fun v8 car to just kind of to just be able to tool around and you're not necessarily looking for something that's gonna set the world on fire but something that has a fun amount of power that will still get you a little bit of trouble this car might be right up your alley because yes you're gonna save some money over the scat pack it also is better from a fuel economy standpoint the engine just isn't quite as big you know what it still feels quite balanced initial tip in is actually nice and firm and it feels just a fun little car to drive that it is a and it is not slow by any stretch of the imagination if I wasn't used to the bigger infotainment screen like I have in my Hellcat and we have in the scat pack I really wouldn't know any different because this one still is plenty nice and it still as functional as it is in the other car so definitely something to think about so yeah my initial thoughts on the r/t having never driven one is it feels very very similar to driving the scat pack in terms of just fit and finish you know it doesn't have like I said it doesn't have that initial kind of thrust that you're gonna get with the scat pack but it is a fun car to drive and it will certainly get you in trouble and you can definitely feel that v8 power so boy it's it's it's just a well-rounded car and it's it's still fun to drive ok guys I'm actually back inside the 2019 scat pack challenger and the one thing I will tell you after only driving the car for 30 seconds the initial tip in on this car is much more robust than in the in the 5-7 car and the reason I say that is because this one actually has the driving modes like we talked about the dynamic driving modes and really I never drive this thing in Street mode I Drive it either in sport or in track I actually drive it track more often and the responsiveness is like night and day in terms of the way the torque comes on now that's not to say the five-seven isn't fun to drive and the torque does it you know it comes on nice and firm it's just this one is very snappy in terms of the way that it makes power and it is a ton of fun to drive just a very different driving experience guys and the torque is just kind of right up front on that sixth floor and it's just a more linear feel in the in the 5-7 car and of course this one has a little bit more pull on the top end so guys it actually got dark on me unfortunately and I apologize for it being so dark in the car but is a really fun thing to kind of review these two cars and havenõt really taken a hard look at the five-seven i do want to kind of call out that that they are still fantastic cars it's just you know from an affordability perspective do you want to spend the extra money on the scat pack because the scat pack you do get a few amenities you get the drive modes of course you get the bigger motor and it is a little bit of a different driving experience and as you can see the tip-in on the scat pack is pretty substantial actually this car is so much fun to drive it really is but in awe like I said it all depends on what kind of driving habits you have they said this will eat more gas than the regular RT will from a looks perspective they really aren't that different unless you go with something like a shape like that's on this scat pack so you kinda just have to appreciate both cars for what they are okay guys I'm actually back here at Don Davis Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram and I got the other little arty back where it belongs and I just want to mention now these guys are fantastic to deal with this is actually where I bought my Hellcat from and they're actually really good people to do business we get our service done here quite a bit as well so if you are in Arlington make sure that you stop in and see these guys with the units Don Davis Dodge and they do a fantastic job not only have a great inventory but taking good care of you so I just want to make quick mention of that well guys so that is about it it was really fun to drive the the five-seven r/t challenger and at the end of the day you know after driving the scat pack I do really kind of feel a difference in power even though then on paper it doesn't look like it's gonna be that substantial in terms of the driving experience yeah I mean you can definitely feel the power especially it's it's the torque and like I was missing you before really the torque is what makes the difference with the six-four and that's what makes that thing so much fun to drive but I do want to emphasize the fact that the five-seven r/t is a fantastic motor it's a well rounded car definitely gives you that nice strong v8 power in the package I mean when you look at the two cars there's really not a whole lot of difference between the two obviously if we have a shaker package here the other ones not a shaker package you know there's a little bit of difference in braking power you can feel the difference there but at the end of the day guys not everybody can afford a scat pack and the arty is a well-rounded really fun powerful car and you know what there's absolutely nothing wrong with either trim guys go with what you can afford if you get a chance to drive both go ahead and do it like I said you're gonna spend about eight thousand more per trim level on the scat pack than you will on the regular r/t so good and bad to both cars really really enjoyed this review guys hopefully you agree with my assessment until next time Racer X [Music]
