[Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Laughter] [Music] so welcome back everyone Mike here it is a beautiful afternoon here in western Pennsylvania I'm out here in the woods cutting some red oak as a matter of fact if you saw the last video I'll put that up above in case you missed it I'm pulling a big red oak up out of the woods with the wallenstein FX 85 skinning winch works out really really well what I do I just kind of pull it right up to the trail cut off a saw log roll it out of the way no the rest of this one's going to be all firewood but I get asked the same question quite often in messages and an email people ask me if I use the steel yellow chain or the green chain so what we have here we have the yellow and the green the yellow is full chisel the green is so much as or it still calls it I think super and micro I use the full chisel the yellow chain seems to work best for me and then people ask does it cut faster and I assume that it does I'm not sure though because I never really tried them side by side in the same conditions so what I did I went out and bought two brand new chains and we're gonna put them on the steel ms2 61 and try it out on this red oak log beside me then we'll do like a side-by-side comparison and we'll be able to make that determination all right before we put these on the saw and do this little test let's take a look at these boxes here this is the yellow one in the green one we're gonna look at how steel numbers these chains so if you're out shopping for a new chain kind of know what you're looking at like I said before yellow steel calls this super green micro this is full chisel semi-chisel okay now the two 6rs the two it's kind of like a coding system I guess two equals 0.325 inch that's the pitch the six that is the gauge and that is a point zero six three inches or one point six millimeters this is the gauge I don't know if you can see that then you have our s our stands for rapid yeah that's steel rapid chain and the s like I said before that stands for full chisel at least that's the way I see it this one over here is a twenty six RM three so that would be the two is the same that is the pitch 0.325 six is the same because that's the gauge the R is the same that's rapid and then the M that's micro so I hope that makes sense and you can see right here in the box you know this is the point three to five this is the gate you know this is the pitch this is the gauge seventy-four drive links 18-inch bar and this is super aka full chisel so I'm gonna go ahead and put the full chisel on first and we'll try it out like I said brand-new chains we'll put them on and then do a side-by-side comparison and just see which is quicker somehow well you can see this but this is the semi chisel or a steel calls at the micro this corner this point here it's kind of rounded off and the full chisel it's like sharp it's more aggressive we're gonna put the full chisel on first alright this is a 13 inch diameter red oak we're gonna try out the full chisel chain first brand new right out of the box we'll make two cuts [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] actually made three they'll be a little more accurate now I'll put the semi chisel on all right cut [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] tell you what I don't know I really don't know the sandwiches will cut pretty good too I thought that the full chisel would be noticeably faster when I was cutting and it wasn't I'm not sure which one was faster yet and I won't know and toy yet at the video but I will say the semi chisel and that hardwood that red oak it seemed to be a little smoother not as much vibration but we'll look at that as well when I slow the video down but I'll edit this video tonight I'll report back here in a little bit and but right now I'm gonna head out to the mini cabin for the last 45 minutes before it gets dark see if we see any deer all right I just came down out of the mini cabin I'm gonna head back to the house look at that sunset just beautiful evening yeah I wasn't in there but ten minutes and over on this side here I saw a deer I'm like uh it looks pretty good-sized ear and then I saw its rack I'm like I think it's a legal buck I look pretty nice but he was just a 6-point and they have to have three on the beam here in our area to be legal so uh obviously I didn't shoot but it was nice seeing him and then there's a doe following him usually it's the other way around and then the buck went that way and the DOE went that way [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] well there you have it the yellow chain definitely cuts a little bit faster than the green chain full chisel versus semi chisel at least in that red oak I was about 13 inches in diameter like I said maybe at some point I'll try it in something a little bit softer maybe some maple but also keep in mind if you're getting into the dirt a little bit that yellow chain will get dull faster than the green chain at least that's what I have found in my experience but anyway that answers that question and like always say if you enjoy these videos please hit the like button click subscribe and share them with your friends thanks [Music] you
