all right we're on our way to Green Bay to pick up a vintage motorcycle I guess it hasn't ran in years but it was fully rebuilt I think the guy said five years ago or something um so it should be interesting it's a 500cc two-stroke um motorcycle and it's uh from 1971. Suzuki t500 so they're pretty cool bikes um I think they make around 50 horsepower supposed to go over 100 miles an hour we're gonna go check it out I guess he has a parked bike as well we might pick up we'll see when we get there hopefully we can film a little guy at work he bought it original and uh tried working on it I had a actually had a motorcycle accident on my other one so oh he did kind of stopped working on it and sat here and I thought I might as well let somebody around yeah cool so what do you do uh do you do at all I had it rebuilt basically well I rebuilt it all I wow and I had it board over put oversized pistons in I was getting it to Fire and stuff on and off and I actually took it up and down the road a couple times and then the last time it it rubbed way up on me and just accelerated and started taking off I killed it and I haven't touched it since okay yeah I I went through the whole thing I had to water it all all the way apart wow yeah it looks pretty clean it's like a little while but where is that coming from 100 sure it looks like the drink is it the drain bolt right there it could be or I think it kind of comes from the top here I think somewhere in the lines okay then drains oh right there yeah yeah and I'm so probably the is there an oil pump in here right here or something in here or even the lines that come up okay I'm sure you'd change a line out or something good to go I think compression feels pretty good yeah we had good we were 120 130 somewhere we had good compression when we when I stopped so yeah it feels pretty good huh that's interesting I think something with the points you think that's my guess points is carburetor or something I you know this shift through all the gears when you were going through it it did go through all the gears everything everything worked really good on it the tank was a little rusty inside but I got it all coated cleaned out and everything so cool how do you open that guy up push that hard to see but oh yeah it looks nice yeah cool so should be good to go there cool pipes look nice too that's in pretty good shape for uh yeah it's just 71. yeah it's really not in bad shape I've got my co-worker had it and then he started getting a little older he's put in the back of the garage covered it up and and he was moving and he's like I don't want to move it I'm just going to sell it so it looks really nice and then you see the other parts one for sale yeah so it's in the shed but here's a box here and he gave it to me like this so you can open the box with everything's supposed to be there plus I get all the stuff in the ground exhaust everything's how much you want for that um it'd be a good parts bike you know in case something goes wrong yeah because that's a that's a 76 it's 71 this one is so they're Honda compatible okay um are like the point system compatible you think okay because that's what I'm worried about you know Finding parts for that um I don't know if you looked online for parts were they kind of hard to come by some parts are not too hard to find okay you gotta dig a little bit I did find some of the points parts and I was like I got it for and over so I found new pistons and rings and stuff all the Seals Everything not too hard to find not the worst might just have to dig a little bit but all the cranks look pretty good good very good everything's really nice and clean in there I would say well I think we said about 600 for this if we do 750 for both of them okay all right it's supposed to be complete I started kind of looking at what I all had it looked like it's all there but there's you almost need a bike like this to put it back together to see um yeah where everything goes what do I need yeah oh yeah yeah yeah can take a look at that one too sure just to see what I'm getting into here's pipes here okay all the extra pieces are supposed to be in there I actually have a frame for another one that he gave me all this he just like I'm just cleaning up the garage we'll get rid of it okay yeah so the engine looks like it's pretty much complete yeah it cranks over um it seems okay it's been 20 years since either of them ran but he said if when it when he parked it it ran and uh this one's just a parts one no title or anything that one does have a title actually okay he said all the parts are there he just had it apart that third one didn't have a title okay which I can throw that in okay yeah I guess for 150 bucks I guess it's you know I can strip some parts yeah exactly yeah I'll take both of them looks like a big project but that's what I got myself into yeah yeah shouldn't be bad yeah all right we ended up getting the bike and two other bikes as well so we had a couple parts bikes um that came with one was a 76 I believe same kind of bike he said that one's complete it was just in pieces so we've got the boxes of pieces here in the back we got a bunch of pipes and stuff so technically we got two bikes for 750 bucks and then the third bike is another Parts bike basically just the engine and the frame that I thought maybe I could strip Parts off of and use those so uh like two and a half bikes for around 750 bucks I thought that was a pretty good deal you guys saw the the one bike that we bought that one was six hundred dollars that thing is like really really good condition for the year and they all come with titles so I think that was a pretty good deal you guys heard him say that he rebuilt the whole thing I think he dropped like 400 bucks in the whole rebuild and then he said he he wrote it one time and then couldn't get it to start back up so definitely a project bike and I think it'll be a good challenge for us so we'll get back home and check them out but I'm I'm pretty excited all right made it back home here is the parts bike this thing's actually a complete bike in parts here's the complete one right here really nice see it was last registered in 2000 so I guess it probably hasn't been running right for like 22 years pretty crazy here's the other parts bike right here engines down there frames on there but she's looking a little a little rough in there it's actually up a piece of a break in there brake line or an oil line but yeah the the one right here is really nice and it's titled and then this one's actually titled as well right here so I don't know if this one has compression or not we'll have to check if I figured it'd be a good parts bike in case we have to find something for this over here but we'll see we'll get them unloaded they're really heavy bikes [Applause] all right here it is 1971 Suzuki t500 check out the event here or does it say if you can look in there it says t500 hard to see what the year is right there she says 71. it's hard to see there so it is in fact a 71 and then it says t500 right there so it is in fact in 1971 t500 dual cylinder 502 stroke and this is a closer look of it you can see pipes are almost immaculate no holes in the pipes at all those can definitely be buffed gas tank has a small dent right here but otherwise it's again perfect seats in perfect condition not a single rip in the seat which is just amazing we've got 7 414 miles on it cages are really nice really really cool bike you've got the Suzuki grips on it yet Suzuki mirrors so everything looks original on this machine look how clean the engine is I mean you don't find them like this every day oil goes right in here with these really cool oil caps and everything was really Built Well back then aluminum cap this chrome will buff out all that rust will come off I think these are the original tires as well they're dry rotted but look at that you've got the Red Band going along super cool got the original blinkers on it original tail light and like I said before the license plate is from 2000. so I think this thing was running probably 22 years ago nice headlight see what happens when we turn it down here key it's right down here got the headlight working got the neutral light working and I believe it's high beam and low beam the lights are the brights I mean so yeah everything turns on perform work ERS work oh that's how you know right there okay it's a low beam high beam right there let's see if the blinkers work wow blinkers work wow cool tail light works oh it's amazing so everything so far works 600 bucks not a bad deal wow I just can't get over how clean this thing is I don't think I've ever seen an older bike this this well taken care of I mean this will shine up to like showroom condition you look at the frame a single spot of rust on the frame and it doesn't have any overspray on it or anything look on the tag or anything on the gas tank wow foreign work clutch pulls in this back brake work let's put the kickstand has kickstand ants on your stand that back brake is working wow so really we just have to get this thing to fire up and it's gonna be like a mint run in good condition bike it's just insane gas tank I guess he lined the gas tank let's take a look in there you did a fairly decent job I think there's a little flap right here but yeah that should hold gas huh so he thinks it might be a point since you he said he had it running for a brief second and took it down the road and then it um accelerated out of control and then he shut it off and put it in the garage so he said he did have it running after the full rebuild I asked him if there was good compression he said yes so we will see if I started digging into it it does have the Pod filters on it oh it looks like it's missing the original air filter box other than that I think this thing's completely original it also looks like by the petcock here there's actually a pump that isn't hooked up I can see so I don't know if this thing wasn't pumping gas that's weird that's really weird but we'll figure all that stuff out we're gonna start digging into it let's see if the throttle works here I can I can hear the slides hitting so I don't know why I would have wrapped up like that choke button right here yeah the choke is disconnected on the other side you can see that link is supposed to go over to the other side and make that carb go so that link is gone and then oh yeah look right there I see that nipple right there that's the line that's supposed to go to the pump right here so I wonder if that's why it revved up because he had air going from that nipple right there and just escaping so it was sucking in air and that's probably why I wouldn't start so I wonder if we connect that line up to the pump right here if it'll start right off I wonder if you just forgot to do that that would be something we'll start working on that in a little bit I want to show you guys the bike we got for 150 bucks here this is a 1975 GT500 comes with all the parts right here you can see the big gas tank take a look and see if that's all rusted out oh it's not horrible look at the pipes see GT500 cover I guess it's a complete bike here the heads here for it oh yeah it looks nice there's 10 175 miles those gauges will clean up break doesn't work this one needs a ton of work that one will probably be a different video we'll probably end up putting that whole thing back together and trying to get that one to run in a different video we're going to focus on this one today and we'll try to get this thing to fire up compression here quick kick over oh yeah yeah that's really good compression so it definitely has compression we will do a compression test on it as well but yeah she's got compression see if there's anything in there for oil before we kick it over 100 times try to get this thing to start there is no electric start on this which is kind of nice I don't like dealing with the electric stair system on older bikes all right so there's no dipstick on it I'm assuming he put new oil in it um if he rebuilt the whole bottom end but we will see oh yeah brand new oil I wasn't kidding look how clear that is so that's a great sign brand new oil in there it is leaking a little bit of the two-stroke oil if we look in here got the carbs I can see a little bit leaking if you look down there you can see that blue oil leaking everywhere trying to pinpoint where that's coming from oh you can see a drop right there in that line so I think it's coming from the line right here or up there somewhere maybe from the pump there's a pump underneath there and I'll show you guys what that looks like that pumps a two-stroke oil into the cylinder right here you can see the two places where it goes into and this is what it looks like you can see it gets pumped in from right let's see where is it going where's the other nipple for it I think it's right here it goes in gets pumped through these lines and then goes through you can see four lines two on each cylinder down there so that's kind of how that works I think it's leaking a little bit it's the way I'm thinking happened this guy didn't hook up the vacuum line to the pump on the petcock and it probably wasn't getting gas and then I had the air leak on top of that and then it revved up just went guessing It's probably hard starting with all gas into it all right all right let's see what we're dealing with all right everything looks good I actually don't see any leaking in there where would that be leaking from then hmm [Applause] oh right there see that blue oil coming out right there so these two lines are loose yep so these two lines going in I see how loose that is so I wonder if that's stripped out in there or just not tighten down that one's loose too so that's where that oil leak was coming from it was pumping trying to pump through those lines but it was coming out that connection so we'll tighten those up hopefully we can that one tightened up oh it's really loose wow the guy that rebuilt the engine said he wasn't the most mechanically inclined so we're probably gonna have to check over all the work on it make sure it was done right okay all right those are tight now what I think happened was maybe he was bleeding the system which I think the bleed screw is right here is probably trying to get the oil to come through loosen those up and forgot to tighten them back down just my guess so you can see this pump is actuated by the throttle you can see when I twist the throttle up here it uh triggers the pump and it's the same way with a lot of bikes and as the bike runs it pumps so this goes down into the engine and it will spin in there all right I think I found a gas line to attach a car could be pumped going into the carburetor and that is going to be the vacuum for the nipple right there on the side of the pump you can see right up there [Music] all right here's the nipple on the carb so this is the vacuum line foreign get that tightened down here all right we had to take the carb off temporarily plus the choke mechanism isn't connected I don't know why that's not connected I think it's missing a ball and I just have to connect this line into this line right here all right coming over here I took off the right side carb because the choke rod was just moving you can see it's not bolted down so I was missing the little screw that holds it into place so let's get that in there that's why I'll hold that in place we'll tighten it down once we get the carbs in but yeah I was missing that foreign check this out that should move when I pull the choke lever down there we go look at that all right carbs look all set to go I just know this this as well there's another huge air leak in here look at this it's not even tighten that one look at that big gap in there these were just loose on here it's like what the heck no wonder this thing then you're on so let's get that tightened down too foreign those are all tightened down now we've got the vacuum line hooked up everything is good to go all the oil lines are tight so let's see if we've got spark and compression okay a certain with the plug from the left here okay the plug was already loose he must have been checking over the whole thing to see why it was running weird because nothing's tight on here at all I'm wondering I'm wondering if the head bolts are even tight let's check [Music] yeah those are pretty tight [Music] I mean not that tight doesn't feel like they were torqued down everything was just like hand tight on here it's a little concerning considering he rebuilt the hole whole bike [Music] all right let's see if this one has uh spark here b7hs plug that looks to be correct all right on here this is gonna have spark he said timing was pretty much spot on when he checked it oh yeah we got started really good spark compression feels crazy in that song there all right we've got great spark there all right over at the right hand side this one didn't click into place here we go so he didn't have that one clicked in I don't know what this guy was doing see if that one was completely loose what the heck [Music] is that just stripped out of there that head bolt or you just forget to tighten it let's see I think it might be stripped out okay that one's stripped out he must have over torqued it these are all pretty good one is stripped out though so that's not the greatest thing in the world and that plug is actually tight in there and Confused maybe one side doesn't have compression oh man he holy he really tightened up that spark plug oh my gosh all right we finally got our break free holy cow that was on there will we have spark on this side unless I have it running on this side completely White or at least not very long [Music] all right let's see well we have spark [Music] oh yeah got Spark foreign we have spark on both cylinders all right let's do a compression test the guys said there is 120 to 130 compression on each cylinder so see if that was accurate [Applause] all right let's see we can probably shove it right in here all right you guys keep an eye on that we'll kick it over throttle open see what we get here almost 150. that's good I think 140. I like 142. so that cylinder is good [Music] so if we have compression on this side we're going to be in business let's see here just keep an eye on that throttle open see we get here oh 150 on that side awesome cool cool cool we've got great compression all right let's see if this gas tank holes in gas free mix going in [Music] all right coming over to the petcock you can see on the petcock there's actually three settings one says Prime at the top which is meaning that it will bypass the pump and fuel will just flow through the lines without having to use the vacuum there's Reserve and there's on and those both work with the pump so gas should flow if we hit this yo oh and gas it's just pouring out of the carburetor see that so that's no good look at that yeah gas is just pouring out of this carb oh and it's coming out the engine now I think there's a hole down here where it goes through but uh yeah let's just see if she'll fire up here we definitely need a car clean on that one it's obviously not working properly but I think we've got gas going to both carbs let's get the spark plugs back in and just see if this thing pops over [Applause] [Applause] foreign oh she runs but she's dripping a ton of gas out of the carb there's no offsetting on the carb so as that pump was running it was a spitting gas directly down the cylinder we don't want that so I think the carb on the right is fine the carb on the left I think the float stuck so let's get that carb out of there and let's see if we can fix that but she did fire up and didn't idle high or anything so I think we're getting close all right so this carb right here is just shooting no gas right from the intake of the carburetor here let's see what's going on you can see all the gas filled filter yeah you can see it just dripping over there like that we don't want that so let's get this car boat and start looking at that I'm guessing the float's stuck or the needle stuck a lot of gas to just flow in without stopping this gas is just flowing through okay there we go all right let's stick to Five Guys now let's see if you put the slides in correctly a lot of people mess that part up see here um I think he had them incorrectly they're uh the notch cut outside goes towards the intake there was a lot of gas in here all right let's take a look at the carb I'm assuming he probably cleaned them you know before reinstalling them after the full rebuild here and maybe even put new Jets and stuff in them they are Mikuni carbs so we'll see what's going on but it was leaking a lot of gas and it could just be a stuck float from sitting foreign it's pretty clean in there not horrible it's a little bit of gunk not that bad looks like they're just possibly a new gasket hard to tell let's see why this was not uh working here huh looks like it's working float's not stuck float's not stuck at all needles not stuck in there hmm that's very strange let's see if the main Jets clogged here Main Jet looks like we're running a 150 for the main nice and open do a quick carb clean on it as well get the float off of here sometimes these enough pinholes and um not here not hearing anything so no gas in there so that's good that checks out here's the needle so I'm assuming there's something with a needle and seat that's wrong so we will see looks like it probably was a new needle all right so there's no rubber tip on these needle like that hmm the seat looks just fine here make sure there's no debris in there preventing the needle from closing all the way all right that checks out maybe it's the wrong type of needle for it we'll have to make sure and check all right pilot check coming out foreign see what we're running for the pilot 30 for the pilot that's clear so this guy definitely did the carb clean on it there's got to be something with the seat right I mean it just has to be foreign washer in there and a another washer over that I don't know why would that be pouring out gas like that the seat looks fine so it's got it's got to be the needle right not shutting up the gas so what we're going to do is just hold that and see if gas pours out of there we'll pour some gas down this and hold the needle tight to that and we'll see if it's shutting off the gas I have a feeling it's the needle all right let's test out this Theory so we'll put the needle in the carb I'm just going to hold that tight in there we'll dump some gas down here if we see we can we know it's the needle foreign maybe it was the flow type because the needle seems to be holding that upon further inspection the little um pin that goes through here that allows the flow to move up and down that was actually a little bit bad so I'm thinking what happened was when the flow goes all the way down here we have a hard time coming back up because that was bent in here and um it wouldn't shut off the gas because Floyd height was correct everything was good so I'm thinking that was the problem and I actually put it up like that and it stayed up when that thing was bent so I bent that bar back holding on the float and now it's really really smooth all right let's see if gas leaks probably doesn't so far it looks like we're good all right awesome let's get the filter back on and attempt to start this thing again all right here we go foreign foreign smoking on the back here both cylinders are running pretty good now 1500 RPMs I think that's perfect there's an exhaust leak right here he's running great [Music] joke is not all right so she's running really good we've got both carburetor set we've got the air screw set to one and a half turns out and then I had to adjust the idle as well this one was idling really high so we turned out the idle screw on this one and now it idles perfectly let's see if she starts right back up should start right back up after being warm that's how you know it's running pretty good oh yeah first kick I think now we're going to kind of clean it up a little bit go over all the Chrome with some Polish get that really nice and shiny and then we'll take up for a little test drive all right we spent the last maybe half an hour just polishing this thing up going over everything getting all the bolts back in it that were missing and she turned out pretty good obviously you could spend days and days polishing this thing up and making it look showroom condition but I want to ride it and uh see if it moves I guess the guy did the bottom end so we'll see if he put the gears back together correctly there's still a bunch of ice on the ground so it's gonna be a little bit of a sketchy ride but we'll still attempt to ride it see how she goes [Music] shifters over on this side [Applause] so that's gonna be interesting [Music] all right let's see if this thing shifts I haven't tested the shifting yet so we will see I don't know if the clutch works either we'll see about that too get past the ice here she's Icy not the greatest idea is it just pure eyes I think the road will be a little bit better let's see here stalled it foreign permanently on let's see if we can get going we're kind of moving I don't know what gear we're in sounds pretty rough though at least we're moving right like we're in a really high gear I'm holding all the way down though that should not be I think this guy messed up the gears in the bottom end mmm foreign all right so first ride was uh not too good but there's a couple things we can check so at first I thought it was the crank seals go on but the guy rebuilt the engine you would have thought he would have done the crank seals correctly so I think it would be smoking a lot more than it is as well if the crank seals were bad so I'm going to check the gas tank I looked at it for a minute I said sometimes the gas tank can be clogged there is actually a vent on here and sometimes he can get clogged when you seal coat the the tank so I'm wondering if it's not getting fuel properly because uh the the gas tank is invented so let's see where would that vent be must be covering the tank somewhere all right guys it's blowing with the gas tank just dropped all that but uh yeah so gas is Flowing out of the petcock with the bike running with the gas cap closed so that's not the problem and then I put the gas cap off and it was doing the same thing so not the gas cap causing the problem all right so maybe there's a big air leak we've got possibly an air leak where the bolt for the head for the head bolt right there so let's just check around the manifolds and everything for an air leak because that's kind of what it sounds like it sounds like a sucking in air foreign oh yeah why should we spray this off it's an air leak right here watch all right go up like that yeah over here too so upon further inspection it looks like there might be a little slip right there see that so let's get this carb off and inspect that manifold all right the cracks are in there there's you see the cracks right there but they're not going all the way through so I'm wondering if it's just sucking in through here because there's no gasket on here at all there used to be but he took off the gasket so I'm wondering if that's why just missing the gasket for it all right we made this gasket for it it's not let's reinstall it with that and see if that takes care of that air leak all right gaskets on there let's start it up and see if there's an air release still [Music] all right we're on the left side of the bike this one I already had a gasket on it so the other one was missing it that's why it had that big air leak but this one looks pretty good no cracks coming through the manifold at all so we're going to reinstall this and uh we should not have any more air leaks I think it got somewhat fixed so what I did was I adjusted the air screw almost all the way in so that makes it richer so that means less air is coming into the system so I think it's just really lean and um yeah with those pod filters so I'm guessing the main Jet's a little bit lean too but I was trying to get it you know off of uh idle to be smooth with the clutch and I think we got pretty good let's see oh geez I mean what's up see I can kinda see I can move now it doesn't die on me so that's a that's a plus let's go down the driveway here oh boy it's really slippery ouch let's see if we can go now see that's better see if we can shift normal now too oh that's pretty good this is second gear not too bad see it's not dying I think we just need bigger Jets yeah bigger Jess for sure oh that's nice and smooth now I thought that air leak [Music] so it does shift [Music] I definitely need bigger Jets [Music] you can see it's bogging out [Music] I think we're all right trying to watch out for Icy patches here [Music] so it looks like we gotta make the jetting a little bit richer right now we're running the 150 for the mains and looks like it's probably gonna need like a 170 if we're running those pod filters so it's really really lean and that's why it's boggy um when you try to give a throttle but I twisted in the air screws and that helped a ton I was able to actually use the clutch without it dying so it's still leaning the pilot too so we'll probably have to go up on the pilot and on the main Jets because of the Pod filters so at least we got it figured out I was thinking it was crank seals at first but then I didn't see it smoking that much so I'm like I don't know maybe not because with crank seals you'd have oil coming through um and burning oil so I kind of knew it wasn't that after after the first ride so at least we got figured out and uh can actually order up some Jets now and make this thing run right we got all the air leaks taken care of we uh just have to get those Jets installed so we're gonna end the video there for today and we'll pick up once we get those jets in and continue the video but thanks for watching guys thanks for subscribing stay tuned for next one and until next week [Music]
