this here is my 1983 3/4 ton chevrolette custom dele to most of you this truck should look familiar we found this a while back out on a farm it had been sitting for years it was retired service truck had big tanks and toolboxes and stuff on it and I told you guys I had plans to use this thing heavily some of you might have thought I was joking but this has turned into an absolute Workhorse for me we do everything from hauling fertilizer and our water tanks and gasoline and Diesel we take loads to the dump in this thing we haul all of our scrap metal to the dump in this we take tires to the recyclers virtually anything and everything around this place this truck is hauling it and it runs really good now we've done a lot of work to it which I'll show you here in a little bit but it doesn't look very good leer but we're about to change that we're going to wheel in the town go to the Tractor Parts Warehouse there we're going to find the absolute cheapest paint on the Shelf a couple sheets of cheap metal we're going to do some quick dirty body work on this and give this the cheapest paint job we possibly can with some basic tools here and then I've got some old used wheels we're going to put on this you guys got to see these things they're absolutely amazing I actually picked them up all the way in Iowa I like them that much and then we got new rubber because these are bald cracked and go flat every 17.5 hours I got a time pretty good good actually and when we're done this truck should look absolutely different might even go ahead and put some pin striping and maybe some lettering on the doors I don't know but they going [Music] [Applause] [Music] though thanks to ag1 for sponsoring today's video the holidays are over and it's time to get our health back on track wrenching on this truck quite a bit as time goes on here because I'm using the thing so much and it's kind of gotten to the point now I feel comfortable investing the time and elbow grease in making this thing look pretty decent but I'm going to run you through what we've done so far kind of catch you up to the here and now and then we got to run this thing in the town wash it get some paint some metal maybe a couple few other things so the first thing you probably noticed immediately is these big tool boxes or side boxes on here and this gigantic air tank stuff up here we ripped all of that off and recycled it I actually got I think it was 105 bucks for taking that out and it actually the truck came back it was kind of squatted and it popped up they were so heavy and the truck drives just way differently now has way more pep to it it's not so topheavy and slashy it's been doing good inside this is the seat out of my red duy it was uh I think it's it's an 85 or something it happened to be the same color the other one if you remember was shot all the way to the springs we were sitting on sweatshirts and a bunch of stuff like that this one does have like a computer chair pad rolled up in here but it's much better than the other seat scripts and then we got some balls just different sizes cuz we do pull trailers with this as well being it's a three4 ton most of the work however has gone on under the hood now you may not remember but when we found this truck like I say it had that big air tank up there well it had a gigantic air compressor in here that ran off of the accessor eyes on the engine all of that has been stripped this thing has been basically stripped ripped and snipped down to the bare minimum and then we've really gone through and tuned this thing up I'll show you here get get over here so this is where that gigantic compressor engine thing was in here all of that's been removed all the brackets and accessories and funny enough this engine was running on seven cylinders for we don't know how long because one of them was hidden underneath all the bracketry the spark lator was cracked and snapped and the boot was messed up so it was running on seven that whole time now it runs on eight it runs fantastic has all new ignition parts cap rotor lightning hoses sparklers heater hoses are new uh fuel pump we Craigslist rebuilt the thing of course put a holly fuel making happen down in there new air filtration system got to do the lid flip so you can hear the bogater bogging you know and then we fix the brakes we've got new booster new master cylinder in here and then we also put a little cheapy plastic r Ator hoses all of that stuff battery this thing is reliable it always starts right up everything works now with the exception of uh the headlights and the blinkers but runs great goes down the highway clutch is strong brakes are great it's just been a really really good Workhorse for me all right listen up now I think we're going to go ahead and run into town first to get all the suppli and stuff and wash this thing down because it's actually late in the day already it's almost supper time it's going to get really cold soon and I don't want this to just freeze over on the way back and then when we get back here we're going to walk around this thing and talk about what we're going to fix what we're going to pretend we didn't see what we're going to intentionally ignore and what we're going to make worse end of day this is not we're not trying to win car shows we're not trying to get Awards we're not even trying to get compliments this is can we we just make it look pretty decent where a guy stumbles out of Bingo and from 48 ft away in the parking lot you go and the other Rancher is going golly is that your rig yeah that's my outfit that's all we're after okay something cheap easy you guys could do in your backyard or home make the the vehicle look decentish that's what we're after so are we going to do full body work and every nook and crevice and jams no we're not we're talking cheap cheap cheap okay good let's run the town look out Kitty watch this puppy fire right off boom oh yeah we put new exhaust on it she's got glass packs oh [Music] yeah we got to hurry ain't got much time ain't got headlights anyway let's run in here see what we can find for paint all right gloss white farm and Implement heavy duty $75 sure wait I found cheaper tractor truck and Implement glass white $60 that's a winner might need a few of these These are the 132nd see how thin they are great for cutting in patch panels I got a new little Milwaukee we might try but just in case let's get some um don't really like those let's get a couple of these let's see yeah that looks like a cab Corner going to get the sheeta 16 as well we'll use that around the shop for sure okay we got our $60 tractor paint we'll see what that looks like I guess could have got some match primer could have got some thinner they had some uh magical hardener glass enhancer we're just going straight white got to swing down to the part store quick grab some luck nuts and if you're really good at identifying luck nuts you can probably start figuring out what kind of wheels and then we'll swing by the wash and then we got to head home cuz we ain't got got no head lips lug Master boy they really scraping the bottom of the bucket we got them I think I'm going to have to measure this shank hopefully that works couldn't help it I can't recall if guys ever even watched this that's like a sticker we'll have to sand that off but all this is just from sitting outside tree sap dirt whatever I got to figure this out no we'll just take it off probably but it's just dirty you know gravel roads stuff like that get her cleaned up spraying these speed holes quite a bit see if we can get some more weight reduction and I might tell us well I don't think we're going to going to paint the bed cuz I only got a gallon so this ain't happening it's just going to get tore up anyway I mean all this is from pallet skid and in and out and stuff like that so it wouldn't really make sense to paint that anyway so I don't really need to worry about spraying the inside out it's just getting the outside as clean as we can so we're not plugging up all of our sandpaper discs and whatnot cuz that ain't cheap how come you didn't use your pressure washer at home Derek because I'm lazy and I would had to roll out 175 ft of Hose that's why turns out the truck is white you know that's pretty nice kind of gives us a glimpse into what this could look like with some new paint on her shined up and whatnot really going for a like an 80s Cowboy Cadillac kind of look if you can pin that up in your head that's what we're going for okay now we're going to allegedly speed violently on the way home cuz cuz we got to blow dry it I ain't paying for that thing over there it's a blow dryer they have these in now I guess no we'll just hit the two lane let this thing dry off I also don't have wipers I don't think we'll check I do have wipers but the blades were last replaced in 1984 so you know it's working real good letra mases me Amigos these are some hard work on Amigos never complain just get after it but they only speak Spanish so guys having the brush off as espanol chos if you want to see the barn build you can go over to vice grip Lodge and uh you can watch this thing go up so we can get our tractors and equipment and some more decent cars undercover like Betty White and the Lasabre other things like that we're out of room we are out anyways let's back the truck back into the pole barn up there and uh take a look at this thing come up with a plan which means we won't have one perfect got the rig you know Remington here wheeled back into the pole barn and I also fired up the heater put it past 50 for the first time this winter I need to start trying to heat up this metal nope ain't going to work I got to get these garage doors insulated at some point basically just throwing money in a burn barrel great but nonetheless we're going to try I think I'm going to have to dig out the leg burners start burning some propane or jet fuel or fryer grease or whatever we can this needs to be be warm to touch if we're going to try to get this paint to adhere it won't be we'll still paint it don't worry about it anyway let's go ahead and walk around this and see where we're going to start I would kind of like to tackle the hard stuff first because I absolutely despise body workor I used to make shiny cars this is a true story and I just got so burnt out on it you're talking hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of hours into bodyw work to make them laser straight and perfect built a chevel for myself built a chavel for my wife Jessica and after those two cars here we are we like we like the patinas and the rust tell you that much but we got to cut some rust out of this thing at least make it last four months maybe 10 years I don't know look the truck we did the $119 paint job on for my brother still on the the road still looks great still shiny when he washes it twice a year everything's good that's what we're looking for so let's walk around this take a look so this front fender is pretty decent I don't think we're going to have to do anything yeah 80 GD will clear that up I don't know who Jay walie is but I'm taking this off I've had it no more free rides I mean just send whiskey and then I'll we can keep it on you know I'm sure he's probably a nice guy undecided if I'm going to paint these or switch them over to Chrome I kind of like the old painted mirrors but the glass is busted out of the other one and so is the mechanism it just does this down the highway it's like one of those used car lot balloon things might have to change that we got a dent in the door we're going to ignore that what D perfect rocker panels sure good enough all this stuff will sand off we'll take the drip rails off the roof we're catching this just in time this is fixing to get real bad actually and uh we need to sand this down to Bare Metal we need to rust treat this we'll probably put some just cheap spray bomb primer on this part of the vehicle and only this part other than where we weld and we're we're catching this in time to keep that from pitting so that's pretty good cab corner I should do something here I don't know if you can tell but we got something going on in the neighborhood so we'll fix that this box side's pretty good this is from the claw The Claw at the scrapyard he snipped on my box side and bent it up a little bit we'll see if we can maybe get that down a little but I'm not too worried about it this needs cut out we'll go ahead and fix this on the last truck we uh painted we didn't fix this we painted right over it but I'm going to show you guys how we can just quickly cut this out put in a patch use a MIG welder nothing fancy cheapest bondle you could ever buy slap this up and make it look good enough tail lens is perfect don't worry about oh I didn't even know this was here and I owned the truck so that's good news we're going to ignore that okay moving on we'll probably spray bomb the bumper the side's pretty good another perfect tail lens this is that fine we'll go ahead and cut this out too oh we're missing a support support rods missing so we'll go ahead and oh it's like a like a curtain huh it's pretty good good it's pretty bad it's backed pretty good we'll cut this out get rid of that ignore everything else not bad there's a dent here can't really see it now when it's shiny you'll see it there's a dent there not worried about it little Dent there maybe if we're not totally burnt out we might just lick some Bondo into there okay but I don't want this this is a slippery slope if we get to the point just from experience if we get to the point where like the Box side's perfect well we might as well make the door good well the door's good now we got to make the fender good and it just it's a domino effect we got to stay out of that zone okay I want to try to get this done in just a couple days this Fender is pretty decent this here we're going to pretend we didn't see this I could put some needles in here and pull on it and Bondo we'd have to cut this out Fab lip get some metal back back in here or we just spray white paint over it and pretend we never saw that great plant Hood's in really good shape there's a couple small dings kind of looks shiny but it's not probably could polish out maybe but that's our whole goal can we lick some paint on this have the whole thing shiny maybe do a pinstripe maybe do some door art or something like that tires and wheels which by the way I'm not going to waste these they do go flat a lot but I could put some slime in them or something we'll spray bomb these probably and we'll put these on that 79 Chevy that Stepside we just brought back it needs tires and wheels and I think these would to go perfect on that truck so we're not going to waste nothing in fact if we take these mirrors off we might use that on that same truck cuz it's got a weird like Ford looking mirror and that's we don't need none of that okay so I think what we're going to do you always start on the Drinker side cuz no one looks at it get warmed up let's go ahead and cut this off way too big make a patch panel that's way too small and then we'll stick weld it in and see how it looks I might Jack this side of the truck up a little bit get this a little bit higher I've got an old office chair that I like to use for my back cuz I don't like sitting on the ground and uh we'll start here repair this then we'll repair the other side repair the cab Corner after that stuff's done that's what I'm going to consider hard we'll move on to sanding this truck down we'll sand the whole thing down and we'll start taking things off like Badges and mirrors and lenses and things like that and get this prepped for some paint starting with the patch panels here see what we got to work with oh three of you just went wait a minute this ain't no $60 I well listen I can kind of add things too the paint is 60 bucks if you don't want to do the body work don't do it then your paint is 60 bucks if you want to put a $38 patch panel in go ahead see know what I'm saying all right we painted over rust before this maybe try to kind of fix something around here what I'm saying here it is got this from Classic Industries less than $40 now we don't have to use this whole piece and I'm going to show you what I'm talking about we really only need to use this little piece right here yeah we're wasting this material but if you were to put this in you're wasting the original material which is let's face it better not only that but you're creating a tremendous amount of more work and when you Lop off a bottom of a fender or a door or a box you're now dealing with the curvature of that panel if we only take a portion out we still have a large chunk as reference to what the role is on that panel and you're going to save a tremendous amount of time and labor grinding Bondo sanity you might even make it to supper 3 hours late just you got to trust me okay let's go look at this so again like I was just saying this is our affected area there's nothing wrong with anything back here I couldn't find just a little panel like this or at least one that I could get here fast enough plus this was the cheapest thing that I could find now doesn't make sense to whack all of this off and go through a curve a big flat straight and around the bed deal with all that stuff it would be a nightmare what we're going to do is throw this up there make some marks so we can see our height come up with the idea of what we want to cut out of this then we're going to lay that over mark it again then we'll cut out the bad and start fitting the new to this piece right here looks like I got to fix a dent so we can make sure that this is rolled correctly first now this back piece it's not bad you bet you I'm going to throw it on the Shelf because this is square body Ranch we've got another 60 70 square bodies maybe On's hit back here I don't know yet I haven't looked okay all right let me find my body hammers pretty sure I hit them where I could never find them go back to normal there we go all right I might put a screw in there or something keep that from wobbling let me get a marker dig right in now this is not going to be perfect obviously we're we're overlapping so this line is not going to be precise meaning don't put this on draw a line and cut on that line it's too much this is going to show our maximum allowance and give us an idea of where we're at body line looks pretty good I'm using this Ridge right here as a guide and then my hands on the bottom well more so this hand I'm making sure that the ends line up flush I don't want it rolled down past cuz that means we're too low and I don't want the original body out farther than the patch panel because then we're too shallow so this is pretty darn close right here I'm going to draw a line because it doesn't matter we're going to sand all this off anyway and really all we're interested in is more so this area but this line is just going to be something there for navigational purposes if need now right away we can see 2 and 1/4 in above a rust hole that's a pretty good cushion we don't need even need to go that high all we need to do is get in the fresh metal probably about halfway so that when I'm looking at this piece I know that if I don't want to I don't have to go all the way up to the top and this isn't perfectly flush anyway it bobbles and weaves and ducks and Jes and it's kind of messed up so we're probably going to cut this off anyway now what I'm going to do is we'll place it again and uh I'm going to eyeball this hear that change in sound good Bal verse not we need to be about right there so now when I hold this up again I'm going to get a different color paint marker so you guys can see I can see you guys probably can't see nothing so see this line we're going to make it on our patch panel here in just a second back with a yellow marker maybe this will help you guys see a little bit better admittedly myself as well okay moving on okay got it lined up now I can draw a line here and we know we only need to go about right here that's going to be the bottom line okay so that matches up now I know that this is my depth or height depending on how you look at it this is my width we're talking about axises here I don't know what they mean but we're talking about it now I can see I got an angle see how this is roted at an angle this right here has a roll in it this is the body line of the truck this comes out we want to avoid welding right there if possible you can do it many people do it but it makes it more difficult it would be wiser to try to land out here where the plane is flat we're not trying to manipulate con curve or cones I don't know if I use those right it's not a bent okay so now go up again here's the area we're avoiding here's our minimum here's where we'd like to be so if I just take this down to [Music] here this really is our patch panel this area here and we want to keep a straight line straight line you can do a curve and stuff like that but again Think Like an Eagle Majestic like smelling like America A to B it's just easier when you get into welding and body work and all that stuff so now what we can do is cut this patch out and I've left myself a little bit of room in case we make a boo boo we can come back trim it up but we're going to go ahead and cut this out come back once again Lay It Up draw another line and then we're going to take some away from that and cut out the old and start fitting in our patch panel now we've got an inside body panel barely hanging on here so I've got to decide if we're going to keep that or not we may try we can maybe wire wheel that rust prep it primer it and have some supports behind the scenes here but I might have to pull this wheel off even and try to split the panels here might get a little bit tricky and uh why don't we take a break from cutting the panel I might put a jack under the axle or something try to get this up a little bit higher my back's already hurting and then we'll slowly just progress from there as you can see we don't have a plan that's that's the that's the usual okay see if we can get this up a little bit higher how high do we want it I don't know how it's awkward I guess you know they ship these Jacks without much oil on them I don't know if you can tell or whatever but that's the way it is 78 million PB ja St wow couldn't even get them up a notch remember some Hefty boys right there they like their grits oh piece of angle iron what is that gear oil I don't know okay there we go bring it down forcefully test it oh yeah it seem to work [Music] good okay wa beefy there now I can get my neck dangerously placed in here so when this comes down we just end it quick oh that's pretty rough I don't know if I could save this inside piece it's going to be dicey and potentially the juice isn't worth the squeeze but we'll see what happens here try we might but probably not so I've got the patch up here I took a straight edge over there and then just uh traced her up try to get more straight lines in here it doesn't really matter that much but it's going to bother me if it's like this and just makes it a little bit more difficult to weld so I'm going to go get the little cut off wheel thing we'll zip this out and we'll start here yep [Applause] [Applause] there we go so here is uno PCH Pano let's get this on the truck make some marks start cleaning up we got to prep this surface and then we've also got to prep the surface on the truck before we start cutting the truck up so these were kind of our guidelines here our vertical our angle and our horizontal that's what we were kind of aiming for roughly doesn't have to be perfect we got a little room [Music] look at that perfect perfect perfect so now I'm going to probably get some vice grips clamp this into place make sure it's nice and taunt and then we'll scribe a line and we're not going to start cutting yet because I'm actually going to clean this up first come back make another Mark and then cut I'll explain why in a second okay now we've got advice gripped in and this is just rough we're still roughing it in you don't have to use these by the way you can use just regular Bice grips doesn't need to be fancy now we're going to make a line well this marker is I think she's done let me get the other marker and then we'll make a line all right so here we go [Music] okay perfect drop these [Music] off so that is roughly where we're going to be cutting now I'm going to come in with some sandpaper not a flap disc not a mini disc or an angle grinder any of that stuff and sand this line I need to get the bare metal then we're going to put this up again scribe it again and then cut and the reason I'm doing that is if we just cut this off and then we come back and try to clean the edge up for welding no matter how careful you are you're going to be taking unintentionally a lot of this metal away okay so when we go to butt weld these now we have really thin metal and your chances of blowing through it or not getting a good weld increase 62.7% so by clearing this first and being ready to metal then cutting fresh metal is exposed all I need to do is just file off I can hand file it the sharp shavings and things like that and then we can fit start fitting the piece when we go to weld we're going to have a nice fresh thick Edge full thickness for our welding here now it's probably worth mentioning you don't actually have to mark this the first time if you just hold this up here eyeball it you can come in and clean this up good enough to put it up a second time time in Market this is more for demonstration purposes but you get the idea it only takes an extra minute now you can see here I've cleaned up our patch with a 100 grit around the edges again I want to keep the Integrity or the thickness of my metal so I'm not going to take a flap disc or a Pneumatic air grinder or anything that to it if I can help it and I've got enough 100 grit left here going to follow my marker now and just try to make a 1 to 2 in strip around this line and then we'll retrace it we'll show you what it looks like original paint at least back here that's pretty [Music] cool now we're fixing to get serious got this cleaned up roughly yeah see so now we're going to put this where guy thinks we need it approximately and being I clamped it before it's kind of conformed to our shape this body line right here more importantly right here is what I'm paying attention to I can work this over easily enough not even worried about this but this this curve here is going to be really important so that's looking pretty good going to go ahead and make a line now this is where I'm making nice straight cuts previously it's going to play to our benefit luckily I wasn't too heavily into the wobble pops yet so they should be pretty straight no that's fine so that's our outside line of our patch right here now we are not going to cut that line we're going to cut short of that line or on the inside of that line so if you're a carpenter don't take the line leave a little okay and we might have to put this up a time or two we're going to slowly fit it in horizontally and vertically until we get this piece to fit now the inside brace here it does have a little bit of rust on it there's two ways to do this if we want to just hack this up and make it look right just cut it all out leave it be I'm going to try to save it because that inside structure is the piece that keeps this Fender from just flapping in the wind this this little wing hooks into there's a there's an arch here and then the base of the bed that's all One support structure if we hack that off the bottom of this Fender going down the road is just going to be doing that you know what I mean it's going to look like Honey Boo Boo not good so I'm going to probably lightly skim cut this and then we'll try to peel this back leave this inside structure if we can can that'll also give us something to try to tack well to if possible on the inside here or at least the bottom Edge down here plan good hey guys going to jump right in here get to going going on the inside of the line leaving some [Music] room [Music] we're going to have that second layer back behind here so I need to be a little more delicate [Music] okay making a note of this we got spring forward here when I cut this loose this panel bounced out so we're we're going to have room minimum an eighth of an inch more like 316 but this we can pull this back in if we need to when we put this piece in now we could start cutting this up figure out how it's attached [Music] all right now there's a good chunk yeah oh let's go the other way all right d so then now well got all the old stuff off there's a couple tack welds got my hunter grit in here not done cleaning up this support yet but I'm very very glad that we saved this there is some Rust all the way through here just a very small portion we're going to kill that rust prime it put some Rust stop on it cuz I want that support I don't want to be looking in the mirror watching this thing flap around I don't know about the other side we'll just have to cross that bridge when the river gets there now time to see if this actually even fits wow that's really good actually right off the front first cut more so paying attention to this again I'm going to put a little yeah a little hats in it there we go man I think I can work with that I'm going to take just a smidge off with the flap disc down here you know the old retina runer it's important to cut straight not at an angle we don't want to thin it up it's looking good i' have to work from the top down and roll this bottom right there it's looking pretty good I don't mind a little bit of gap for welding [Music] we don't want the ends to be exactly touching each other anyway little bit of Gap in there is going to allow room for a wire to get in there less Body Work little here got to massage just a little bit more off and we can finish cleaning this up got this all wire wheeled and cleaned up going to rust treat it in a second got some holes drilled in the side for some spot welds on the brace I don't think I'll be able to get this perfect onehanded but something like that and uh again this is the easy part so I'm more concerned about this roll I'm going to tack it here and here and I'm I'm going to work some TS in right here and push and pull this piece to get this part correct then we'll put a couple tacks down we got about 3/16 of an inch here see this difference this will pull in and then we'll work this down and pull that up if we need to and then the last thing we'll do is Hammer this corner around and make our tack welds on the side here uh for the support got to take some Rust fix you just spray it on turns this stuff black when it's black you're good to go we'll spray some primer in there as well probably some weld through primer actually at least on the front side and then we'll start burning some wire yep kill it shut it down turn it off there we go all right let that sit and dry then I'll come back with this copper weld this is for uh Superior corrosion protraction between welded surfaces and panels and you can weld right into it get a nice penetration which is what we're looking for primer and all that is dry just got this kind of hanging in here again this is where I'm going to start I'll go drag the welder over here let pop some uh spot welds in here start shaping this thing out we got some trimming to do to make that look more natural things of that nature let's get the lid on get to [Music] work well guys got her all tacked in here going to have to wait till tomorrow my die grinder just exploded um so I need something I got to run out town and get something else but clean these welds up and then we can come in sand a little bit more and mud over this but really happy with how this turned out everything turned out good here of course right in the most difficult spot blew a hole in this old metal twice I don't know what the deal was there but everything else held together good and went ahead and trimmed this there's two spot welds in here already cleaned those up and then we trimmed off remember this was a lot wider trimmed that up and made that all shapely and correct as well as the bottom side there so one patch is in it's got to make it look nice now was laying under the truck eyeballing this and that looks fine but then I noticed when I started turning my drum here see that we got oil leaking and the pinion shaft is moving all over the place so either this nut is backed off or a pinion bearing is shot so while I'm thinking about it I think I'm going to close out tonight by dropping the drive shaft which should be really fun and we'll investigate this and see what we got going on here and you can see we've had a major explosion of some kind I'm hoping the seals probably all tore up and everything but we'll find find out here I guess it's more evident if I just do this not good later we were just trying to get home I could ignore this and just call it a loose pinion nut but as I rotate this it's hard to explain it does not feel good it's very grally so we're going to go ahead and pull the nut pull this out I'll get a drain pan under here just in case but I'm assuming everything is already leaked out take a look at the front bearing and seal see what's going on see what happens when you try to do body work this is this is how this is where we're [Music] at [Music] huh I think it's okay somehow that seal was fine the nut was just backing off so that's good news I'll get the drive shaft back on we'll forget about this well I think the guy's going to go ahead and call it a night with Remington here we didn't get as far as a guy I wanted to but we're down a tool we could fix that tomorrow we got one patch panel in also address the Rand issue there which was pretty random tomorrow hopefully we can get this other patch panel in as well as the cap Corner smooth out that metal work and then we can start sanding start laying some Bondo on it's going to be so much fun see you in the morning back in the barn this morning had to run in the town and uh had to pick up a a die grinder I've been using my dad's now for has it been yeah 20 years coming on 20 years and uh finally gave up on me would you can you believe that so I picked up another one of them and some wheel locks going to clean up the side let me clean her down I'm going show you what we got here just starting here now a reminder when you're doing body panels say vers like a floor pan or something like that you still have to keep in mind heat is your enemy just like spot welding you're going to move around when you're you're grinding you don't want to stay in one spot too long you're going to create a bunch of heat and it's going to warp the metal you're going to get a high spot or a low spot oh got the hiccups excuse me you got to move around a little bit is what I'm trying to tell you here U about as far as I'm going to get with the 60 now I'll move in to like a probably like an 80 and then a 120 and then we're going to finish it actually with a DA sander and a disc and then we'll come back with some primer try to hide all the poor metal work okay guys got everything roughed in now we'll come over with that palm sander the da and just clean up all the metal smooth it out and uh we'll also take some of these harder edges of paint and just feather this in because when we put highb Build primer on this the goal is to sand that then and everything's just going to blend in together basically when we go apply Color [Music] a using 400 grit that's not going to be enough so we'll drop to 100 grit I got a little greedy with the die grinder left some gouges in it shark fins we'll get them don't worry well got her wiped down with some Windex patch panel is in complete now we'll just prime it up basically so when we look at our line here I did make a mistake and I didn't catch it till after the fact I should have gone a little bit higher because this is actually a dent that's not where my weld is my weld is down here so the ridge was dented in but I'm not worried about that that's a 15sec fix with a little bit of mud if we even want to address it because you know the rest of this like that dent right there and there and there there but the most important part you know right here this this uh shape right there is perfect we nailed it so we're not going to have a bunch of mud or anything like that that actually hardly any mud at all on that but I'm going to go ahead and take some highb Build primer now spray this down I actually worked this whole bottom with 100 grit and then 400 just so I could feather this in and I'm not putting filler over bad stuff speaking of bad stuff this is going to be a slippery slope we got to decide if we're going to take all these little these are like rock chips that then start rusting and you could paint right over them uh but they're going to reappear in fact if we just ignore it and we paint this truck all these little pin holes or Rock chips are actually going to show up as little sparkles or specks it's actually going to amplify it the problem is if we take the time to work all of these out individually we're going to be here a long time then we're talking taking this thing down to Bare Metal Dent Dent dent D D D D so that's what I'm saying like some of this we just got to close our eyes just pretend it's not there we're not building the show truck we're just trying to get the rust cut out 74 million different types of primer let's face it what do you use I don't know not about a guy what I usually base on what I'm using is what kind of vehicle are we doing if you're doing a full restoration or something like that you're probably going to want to buy a better quality gallon or a couple pints of a sealer or epoxy or the appropriate primer if you're doing a base coat or a single stage or whatever you're doing um obviously you're going to follow the paint system in this case we don't have a paint system we're using tractor paint so I'm just using a rattle bomb because we're trying to keep this thing cheap now there is etching primer that's made for like bare metal you've got standard primer that's just a base for something for the paint to adhere to and then you've got what calls a filler this helps fill deep scratches and little tiny pin holes which we don't really have that well there's a couple down here from my flap disc could I get that out with the da yeah I'm lazy don't want to we're just going to fog this area down and then this leaves almost like a porous texture because it's designed to be sanded over before you apply your base coat or in our case a color normally you would primer it the whole truck but no we are not doing that going to do just a light coat here and then I'll come back and really really send it to it boom check this side off now this is a lot of the exact same run you through the game plan here and then I'm just going to knock this thing out basically the same exact process the inside support on this one looks a little bit more rotten but again I'm going to do my best to save that if at all possible so I'm going to take my patch panel which again is a longer piece and you can see now watching the process why we're avoiding all this extra work and do the same thing cut out what I think I need which would be about like this again we want to get off of this this angle here we want to avoid basically from here over so we'll be cutting back here and Having learned a lesson there's no DSE on this one looks fairly straight so we'll do the same thing cut this try to keep that inner structure have to find the spot welds on the inner structure here get that taken away wire wheel it you know the deal all goes well it's going to be as good as the other one and our goal is to use as little mud as possible we want to try to use as much filler welding wire and the original and new metal is possible it's just going to save us a bunch of time down the road a little bit more of an investment now but in the long run o the M do it [Music] safe [Music] Captain side in this one fought me a little bit I uh blew two holes in here and I found they're patches like this basically that we found when we cut it's just weak metal so it blows right through then you got to dance around well I aborted a couple well s did a lot of hammer work try to get this thing as good as possible unfortunately I got a little anxious too much heat here you can see that blue haze too much heat that's most definitely going to be a low spot but we got metal in it and all the rest is cut out so when we go to lay some mud we're probably going to see a little bit more mud over here but that's okay next step I got to trim this see how this sticks out too far so just like the other side by the way I got plug welds in here look how solid this is with that inner structure that's what we're wanting so now I need to trim this down something like that trim the bottom and then we can start cleaning this side up so got both backs primed anyway I want to go ahead and finish this cab Corner before we mix up mud because I like doing body filler even more than metal work nope so we're going to go ahead and try to knock this thing out now I don't know if you could tell but there's a little rust in here it's basically surface rust yeah I think it's there now the difficulty here is this seam this is where the rocker ouch okay door hinge doesn't work anymore apparently this is where the rocker essentially butts to the cab and this is supposed to be a rolled joint here this is actually going to be fairly tricky again I'm trying to keep the inside support if I can we're probably just going to hack it right here and right here or just take this whole piece off haven't decided yet I don't have a cab Corner didn't want to spend the money of course they charge you a lot more for an actual Corner than anything else in the truck cuz it's the most common piece I think we're just going to try to bend a piece of metal in there come in with some seam sealer come up with something on our own the biggest goal here is just get this rot out not really worried about looks so this little fella is going to be slightly different I think what I'm going to do well first of all I cut this flapper off here you know what I mean and then I'll probably cut a template out of something I'll try to find some construction paper or something and then I'll Trace that and then that's what we're going to hack out of here we could just cut it and then come back and try to fit something in there with paper or cardboard or something but I think it might be a tickle faster doing it the other way around so here's what I'm thinking just took the lid out of my sandpaper box we're going to weld on that bottom seam cuz no one's going to see it and we'll do pretty much nothing about it I'm going to try to use this Edge and I'm going to blow about 1 th holes through that and then I'm going to leave a little bit extra that we're going to roll with a screwdriver and a hammer and then we'll fill that in with seam seal so this is probably going to be my shape that ain't straight in any way shape or form perfect so after I crudely chase that with a marker here that's roughly what I'm looking at so I'm going to get in here with the uh da clean this up first get some bare metal exposed then we'll trace it again then we'll start cutting see what we could save and also what we can clean out of here prevent this from happening again hopefully at least until I'm toes up in the daisies you what I mean kids can deal with it next all right come on man don't be cutting up my [Music] pads someone splattered this terrible green pain lucky Char big out okay now uhhuh uh-huh that's all rotten we're just going to be blowing holes in that so that's really good no [Music] ST where' my peter belt windshield go I wasted time ha come on man get out of there I think we can hip this get the old wind bag in there can't see nothing now if I make that incorrectly everything should be fine this is just 120 grit sandpaper we're not taking any [Music] material help got to get a whizzle Wizzle on there where's my wire wheel don't know well we're just working with what we got here I got a wire wheel around the cheek poker in here and got her pretty well cleaned up I mean it ain't perfect but it's probably going to do the job for now any hoose this right here is going to just blow in the pieces so instead of doing a big bubble gum weld here I'm going to have to shut it down probably early and then we're going to take the seam seal which we're going to run through here which was originally in the truck this went all the way down through here and we'll plug those little holes and then we'll get behind the rocker and plug this up see that which is what originally caused the rust on the outside this filled with that dirt and moisture and got to that cab Corner super common they should have made a more of an angled plate back here it's more of like a catcher M and it just catches all this junk back there and rots them out eventually but thankfully this rocker panel have you ever seen that in a truck this old this is an 83 pretty remarkable and this truck has been used and I'm going to guess seldomly washed but we're making something of it for cheap so we got a hunk of metal here we've got our curve in it and it should it's hard to do with one hand but you get the idea Derek how'd you get such a perfect curve on that well we've got a whole lot of template so just stuck it on here bent it in the shape made sure it was the same basically that'll get us started now guy's going to blow about 47,000 holes into this this is most likely going to be a majority Bondo unfortunately they're just I mean nothing nothing just going to do what we can here [Music] boom cab corn welded in sanded up only got it down to 100 right now we'll take it to 400 before we actually paint but I wanted to get this seam sealer in got this in the joint here and here just like Factory would have that'll keep it from rotting out hopefully going to let that dry for a few minutes uh this is a quick dry seam seal I can actually primer over in just a couple minutes minutes here then metal work officially done I don't think there's anything else I wanted the tackle as far as metal work goes let me check over here really quick G this one's starting to go let me let me think about that for a couple minutes okay one hand made cab Corner done I think I'm going to look closer at the other side there's dents all over the place but that's the only piece of rust really that's left it would be I don't know wouldn't it be silly to do all this and then not do that one I don't know help me out what do you think leave it we ain't ever I mean we climbing in the captain side what's that yeah okay I'll look at it closer it's pretty funny how long the screws been there it's wor grooves in the rocker panel so I'm going to leave it okay so over here I think we can get away with just a little I mean I'm sure I'm going to blow holes again and it's going to turn into a nightmare but I'll go ahead and try to cut out a little piece patch that up up okay well this is what I kind of came up with for a shape here now I could probably cut this across at an angle or whatever but this is just going to be as easy now down here we're probably going to blow it out and all along this Edge we're probably going to blow it out but we're going to give her a go hopefully it doesn't yep it will perfect H oh don't worry about it little piece of paper or something was to Fallen back down in there years ago and the welding and grinding uh getting pretty close must have litter up this lip right here how I'm doing this is I make it extra long and then I take a chisel and roll it in so that's actually all metal in there just like a wood from the factory and then we'll just put seam sail anyway I think I'm going to take that and just put a huff down in there cuz it's it's starting to get fairly thick y I take that out of down there little bit left maybe those go so quick oh got a little hole apparently well guess we'll get the light out figure that oh I know it's coming right out that crack oh my gloves see good things do happen when your truck starts on fire bunch of these pieces looks like old seat vinyl so I think mice must have put them down on the corners or something and that's what was smoking up a guy's trying to decide what to do next and I'm going to base that solely on what I want to do the leest least of the morest of to-do list now I don't like doing body work as we discussed metal work's done but we got to put some filler in the other option is sand the entire truck that's fun also no but I think I am going to start there being as we're not like doing fullon meticulous every little nook and cranny we're doing a what I call a scratch and shoot a I think I'm going to go ahead and sand this thing first once the whole truck sanded then we'll come back and do the body filler and finish with that finish with a bang now I'm going to start by panels I usually like to do like one panel at a time so I'm not just running around all crazy and get confused where I'm at also I can't feel very good in my hands anymore so I need to do small pieces at a time so I can remember where I'm at so I'm just going to start tiing them off 880 to 100 grit move to a 220 if I have to ideally when we're done we'll be at 400 I'm going to do in stages though knock each panel down go back around go back around this is just hours and hours and hours and hours of sanding you're not missing much let's jump in and get this over with [Music] 7692 hours later I think I've got the roof done well that's about it that's pretty good made progress going to go ahead and call it a night I think shut her down and uh probably start on the hood next hopefully that's a lot easier got a bunch of surface rust and it's been painted before and I also found some Bondo in here that didn't help on the roof you don't really see this but it kind of sets precedence you know what I mean so I wanted to get it okayish or good that make sense we'll hit this tomorrow well good morning truck's still here great let's jump in on This Hood full day of listening to that air compressor [Music] run well a guy is getting there extremely slowly and somewhat surely now if you're wondering Derek why are you making this look like a delmi that looks terrible must be really bumpy it's actually not the tall and we're going to continue to work on that but basically whoa stepped on the old what we're doing here is getting out all the rock chips dings those rust stars and Bubbles all of that stuff I'm digging those out and then smoothing them out because I don't want that just popping right back through again and it ends up looking really crazy like this this is what I'm talking about these were all little rust bubbles popping through could probably show you on this side all this stuff so we don't want to just glaze over that quick and then paint because it's just going to come right back through again so we got to get pretty aggressive with a lot of that stuff and that that's just what it ends up looking like unfortunately now I do plan once we get this done I've got this box side yet to do and then I'm going to wipe the truck down I'm going to use just a rattle can primer and prime the bare metal which quite honestly if you're really really on a budget you don't even have to do that but it's six bucks a can we could probably do the whole truck with one maybe two if you're trying to make it nice nice you could seal the whole thing we talked about that but we're not this is a work truck it's not a show truck so I'm going to come in and just sprit some primer basically just like we did on the cab corner and our repairs and then I'll come back in 400 the whole truck including that primer and then our last step will be body filler which quite honestly we don't even really need but I'll just do it for demonstration purposes and a little bit of practice I do have a low spot right there we talked about so that could be filled when it's shiny it might jump out at us someone spiled the bunch of green paint and it's all in here and they're big heavy runs and I can't get my equipment in there so that's going to look really good when it's shiny and drippy pretty good booger here um all the metal is there if we wanted to take half a day we could put a couple pins pull this body Hammer that down fill it but again but she's coming along I've ate about 17 lbs of dirt and whatever whatever this mixture of dust is we got green primer couple different whites when I get the other box side done I'll probably actually drive the truck out sweep the floor up so we can try to keep that under control cuz I think I'm going to spray it right where it sits so you know we want it to be at least 40° so it tries to stick to the the paint missed a whole spot there we'll get it with the 400 there you go Bud sweeping up the back a little bit before we take it outside so all this doesn't go all over the the driveway it's pretty good maybe this stuff here yeah okay need to get all this swept up dust it out best I can can get the truck dusted off outside and then roll it back in again all right so now guy I'll just take some Rags wipe this thing down it doesn't have have to be perfect just pretty goodish and then we'll start fogging this thing up 3/4 ton dairy cow okay yep mhm all right sure something like that getting a little nervous about getting it warm enough in here to paint might have to dig out the old leg burners from the Wisconsin era that's how we survived up there don't you know just breathe in diesel fumes all day fryer grease Crisco whatever would burn hold a little coming along this is another one of those projects might not cost a lot of money but you better be ready to put the labor in believe you me oh yeah wonder what Tanya Tucker's doing today you know heard she's a mean cook and really put out some meat and poers you know boy meat both does sound good right [Music] now did we already do this box side I think so we do got to get to the top of the cab though and the hood still cleanest this truck's ever been ever that wasn't necessary sorry about that so the roof up here is obviously the worst of it as far as like rusty metal goes I am going to spray a converter on this just brand new roof skin let that dry first while that's drying I guess we could jump down on the body and start spritzing and some primer so we ain't got to go crazy with this filler primer I'm just uh finding the bare metal spots here and what this is going to do is just build that paint material back up so when we get in here with 400 and sand the smooth we don't have as many Ripples and stuff and also some of these spots and I'm I'm not sure with this tractor paint to be honest I'm assuming and guessing it's like other anamals where these spots might not cover as good as the other paint so we could end up with spots in our final product which you know I kind of like the milk cow look it's growing on me but Jessica might not like it you know it might be a little embarrassed going to breakfast into town so we'll uh cover some of this up one can is going to go a long way looks like which is great this will also cover some of these deep scratches from the 80 grit I used in some places cut down on labor a little bit which is good cuz I'm lazy you know m oh yeah stuff and things mm looking worse perfect make sure I get the light bulbs here yeah it's good boy they backed this truck into everything within 100 square mile radius apparently yep I'm anxious to see what this tractor enamel stuff does I sprayed some gray on a Ford tractor that turned out okay it didn't want to lay down that smooth to be honest so that's going to be an interesting battle trying to get the gun set up right to lay a halfway decent you know they make this paint what they're thinking is the guys out here spraying down a square Baer or something not as going to town truck although it does say truck on the label though yeah I guess they should do a better job then no it's completely my fault okay yep I got her pretty well spit up here it's uh it's getting pretty close to dry I think I'd go ahead and dig out some Bondo and mixing and fixing Goods throw up on the workbench also known as the severely dented bed where the tailgates missing that'll probably work few more minutes we can start throwing some mud on this thing yes so excited that stuff covered pretty good of course the worst of it was up here but should do the thing found a couple more dents um but we're not really like I say I know I keep repeating myself but we ain't trying to win any awards here this also is going to act like a guide coat we're going to easily be able to see where we've hit it with the 400 as soon as that dries up good enough just a few more minutes and then we can probably I think I'm going to try to do all four you know both rears and the cabs at the same time so everything is drying and we could just move in a big pattern here try to knock all this out quick well we got some professional body filler pallets here made out of a jungle website box and we're going to be using Evercoat body shop listen it was the cheapest one on the shelf and yeah it came with the you know the juice that you got to mix it in there you know wow how come is this childproof yeah this thing so that's good I do like to smell a Bondo for some weird reason though what is this poster mixing guide 2in filler putty puddle 2in puddle hardener line 4 in putty puddle 4in putty hardener line I see there's kind of a trend here apparently however big your puddle is is how big your line is huh science got this side mudded up boy I am rusty putting this stuff on tell you that much probably 20 minutes to dry based on the temperature it's probably 60° in here about as hot as I can get it tonight and it's going to start cooling off but we'll mix some more and do this side all right let's see how bad I can mess this side up firm pressure hard keeps the bubbles out or at least helps as you can see I'm not doing a good job of it I got too big of a Scrat youa as my kids call them you just got to hang that ice cream I think I got too much hardener in this this batch get it off the floor too we'll reuse that over here little bit of dirt and dust and stuff ain't going to hurt it any you know just sheetrock screws you want to keep them out of there if you can okay I can run around hit some dents here and there where you at dance trying to find you so while that first coat of bondle is dry I'm going to go ahead and get the da out again this time we're going to go to 400 and start doing all of our finish sanding essentially on the truck we'll just do this by panel and hopefully we can be wrapping up all the sanding by the time I get you know for example the hood done we should be able to sound first coat of Bondo maybe the final coat we'll see what it looks like shouldn't need a lot and if not then we just keep jumping back and forth so one more big mess and then we can clean this place up again and get ready to put some color on well the da was a little aggressive and was plugging up pads so I've actually been hand sanding this which I don't mind um if we were doing this correctly we would be block sanding using different foam blocks and things of that nature fact I might have a short one that I can wrap in this actually and that helps keep your panels level as well say that was Bondo if you have a long block and you work around that that's how you get that nice smooth finish but this is turning out really good see how it's nice and smooth now but we don't have any bare metal showing well in most places that's the idea anyway bondo's ready to go um probably switch grits here start knocking on that a little bit pretty well got the hood and this Fender done just started on the door it's going to take a little bit longer since we're hand sanding guys started rooting around in my supplies from the good old days when I used to make shiny cars and I actually found an old Dura block and a roll so now I can show you guys see this is how we get these long panels nice and flat also a lot faster as you can see this old truck's getting quite the treatment for a $60 tractor paint job this is just faster that's all remember how terrible this roof was much better much better fresh primer back on still wet it's drying cab Corner done all the Bondo could have used another coat you know you put several coats on but this side's done still a little bit low but hey if we keep spending time on this then it's not a quick little job anymore we're doing fullon body work here this is much better than rust holes this one would have taken a lot of work there's so many dents and stuff in this already this whole area would need jeez hours and hours that's good enough another cab Corner over here that's s drying sure good enough here's the plan don't have one but I am going to go ahead and run this in the town and uh use the quick wash again wash this thing down soap it clean it and it'll be dry by the time I get back park it overnight and then tomorrow we can jump in and start taping this thing off and get ready for color I got a huge tarp I got to sweep this place out put a tarp on the ground see if I could tarp up some of the computers and stuff in here I don't know we've painted a lot in here and it uh doesn't seem like the overspray affects anything immediately but then it takes months to get out you know what I mean might try to get one of them blow up paint boo things but it's way too cold to use it outside right now so maybe that's something next summer we could do but we'll try to make it work in here so I'm going to run and do that we'll see you guys in the morning we're getting very close to throwing some color on on this well we got the rig back in the garage here went ahead laid this tarp down that'll probably help with overspray nope got the heat cranked to 80 letting it warm up it's currently 66° in here the humidity is pretty good actually I'll take it setting up the uh paint gun here professional series nope not even close this is the absolute cheapest spray gun you can buy at Harbor Freight I've used this multiple times and the only thing I've done is used their cheap regulator and then I added this on here this is a ball filter it looks like a ball and it's a filter I typically use these because they come in a two pack and they're cheap but I found this guy I think it's a power tool or something like that it was cheap also but it's got this little uh valve stem valve in it so you can just empty it out and keep reusing it these you got to guess or shake them and then replace them before I run use guns I like to just spray a bunch of something in it this is the nude gun spray gun paint remover and feed a bunch you know a/4 cup through make sure everything's doing what it's supposed to do I don't know what it's supposed to do but just makes me feel better and then uh this is just a cheapy little holder I got it hobo Freight as well but you can actually just use the Vie if you want to and then I've got this uh cheap little respirator and that is basically it we'll see what this tractor paint smells like or how bad the fumes are we might end up running some box fans under here but I would rather have the heat than not not I've got six ceiling fans in here and I've got two uh external fans that pull air out I'm just going to drop the filters on those and run them wide open and hopefully we can circulate enough fresh air in here we'll see what happens uh going to start taping this thing off we're not going to do anything magical here it's just going to be pretty basic for example I'm not even going to tape the rear bumper off because we're going to come back and powder coat that later and by powder coat I just means might lay something over the tires probably not door locks handles glass you know the basic stuff this I'm just going to run a piece of tape over the top nothing fancy there won't even tape these off cuz we're just going to cover them up again tape the front bumper off and the grill I mean that's really it for old Remington here there ain't a lot on it you know what I mean oh pressor's getting ready you're not missing nothing tell you that much just going around this trying to get this tape to stick to this old rotted weather stripping going to go around it once like this and then I'll come back and put some plastic or paper or whatever we got in I might have some plastic left over from that El Camino we just did but I like to get a outline first so then when we're just trying to cover it up we're not like having to be so precise as we go around handles locks already done and trim above the top here so much fun nope do have it taped off though good enough going to go ahead and wipe this down we're getting pretty close it's a baly 64 in here but we're going to go ahead and wipe this down with some wax and grease remover just get the grease from our mits and forearms and stuff and you're sweating all over your rig trying to tap tape this thing up and you got your juice belly hanging over the fender and stuff like that going to get all that wiped off doesn't need to be perfect just you know can we just clean it up a little bit and then by then maybe it'll be 65 66° we'll get our tractor paint mixed up in some cups we'll just mix all these Cups have them ready cuz we're just going to come in here and Gob this in getting the old CrossFit in today going up and down this bumper I suppose a guy could turn the lights on on the other side we're already blowing the electric bill with the heat running and I can kind of see what in the world is going on on that side of the rig here we go I kind of like to just focus like I say right around where I was taping cuz undoubtedly I'm sweating cold snack all over it yeah see we just washed this rag is filthy I'll be dipped only got about three more of them today and the knees are going to say no more we're good see how clean the hood is I got leaves in the cowl up here you know I could open the hood and get them out but hopefully they stay probably not we'll have some sort of leaf imprinted custom paint and then we'll just pretend that we did it on purpose you know what I mean okay good we're on the same page feels pretty rough that's good yeah dirty but not as dirty as the roof grayish yeah did miss a little bit of primer around this glass assuming because I was too lazy to tape it off yep okay well now that the truck is taped up and wiped down it's time to go ahead and mix some cups of paint up I'm going to go ahead and mix as many as I can out of that gallon I'm going to try to use the entire gallon on the exterior we painted a truck a few years ago and gave it to my older brother and I started inside the bed and ended up not having quite enough to cover what I wanted to in the exterior in this case like I said early on we're not even going to do the bed cuz this thing absolutely gets used it's just going to get all messed up anyway I also found some reducer it's also the magical brand there's just a split spash in here so after I get all the cups fill I'm going tooooop boop boop boop mix it up then I think we'll jump into the bed see what kind of spray pattern we can get I've only got the 1.4 Noz lator on that used hobo Freight gun hopefully it sprays the stuff okay I guess we're going to find out I got updates uh first of all it's white really white second of all I spilled half the gallon well that's what we do it comes out like surewood Williams one coat easy application it is thick thick like sheetrock plaster I don't know how I'm going to definitely have to use this reducer because otherwise this ain't this ain't going to happen but here's all the cups we got Uno Trace banana yellow 16 so hopefully we can get the whole rig in this this one of course is a little short but I'll see if I can make it happen hands are hurting Whitted up a stir stick now I could just mix it up like this this is all the reducer I got but it's uh oh boy never mind let's pretend it's coming around it's looking real good nope Final Mix is done we got it stirred up got the gun loaded compressor's running I just strained it of air again let's make it [Music] [Music] happening pretty tough to dial this in actually but I think I got the gun about as good as I'm going to get it for this paint anyway first little coat on the roof back of the cab and around the edges of the Box let's keep moving too late to change anything now well that was was honestly a lot tougher than I thought getting the gun set up a little bit correct see I don't know you save a bunch of money on paint but then you have to make up for it I guess in a sense I already got stuff all over me I'm going around and just hitting lightly I'm out of my first Cup's gone but I'm hitting the Box lightly where all the dark areas were uh the roof's got a pretty good first coat on on it other side of the box is done do have some cetti coming out some thicker pieces I just think we're going to have to live with that I don't know haven't decided if we're actually going to polish this thing or whatever I guess we'll see what it looks like next cup same thing on the rest of the truck just going to fill in cover get some base coverage basically get this thing packing up get the clock running when this is flashed off we'll come back in and do an official first coat on the big panels I start always start on the roof because you can continue to dial the thing in make adjustments and also no one really sees it so you can lay it on heavy and then if you have enough paint come back and get her a little bit later you see that a lot in sunburn Vehicles back in the day even but so far ish well we got our base down anyway went a little bit thicker in some areas just because I know like for example from experience when I do this Hood when you come here you're not going to break your wrist and blow overspray back into your wet surface it's better to break the wrist this way but what that does is make a light coat up here so it's easier for me to just do that now got the front weather strip line on the roof again it's why it's wet here in the corner and kind of dryish up there this is already flashing off we're going to put another coat on but you can see I kind of just tried to get all the areas that we repaired that looks great actually uh or had some black primer or any of that stuff kind of sticking through made a couple more gun adjustments back here just use the floor let this tack up and keep it rocking if everything looks like this when we're done that'll be just fine just fine just waiting for this to flash after you wear your respirator while painting take it off and breathe all the fumes in while you wait nope I'm higher than Dr Dre on a step ladder right now well just finished second coat on the roof and I have catastrophic gun failure pulled out another old one from the cabinet can't get that to work worth beans I am in a jam and the longer that paint sits in the cups the worse it's going to get so between product and paint guns we might be rolling some paint on this bad boy I'm ready I'm ready what a disaster Unknowing ly doomed when I mixed all those cups together in the beginning I did not know I was going to have gun issues and then I realized I had one in my motor home because I grabbed one at a swap meet two summers ago so I had to run to the house find the keys run all the way out to where we have that stored get the guns underneath come all the way back well cup life was pretty much done so I had to try to nurse the paint back to health so it even go through through a gun basically shooting confetti down this whole thing it's uh it's unfort it's real life though this is real life you know what I mean it's unfortunate I think it could have looked a lot better but you use cheap junk you roll the dice that's just the way it goes this time we lost but going to let it dry it is what it is it's all one col color the rust has gone in the end it's still a win all right I'm going to get out of here it's getting pretty bad let this thing sit and cook well got the old rig backed into the pole barn here got all the plastic and tape and stuff off it's actually a few days later going on a week probably tell I lowered my ears and trimmed up the old soup saver as well I actually had to go to my grandmother's funeral un fortun but don't don't you dare I'm not telling you that for a pity party I'm telling you that so we can celebrate my grandparents lives and Legacies together and I had mentioned beforehand I was thinking about doing some art on the door or something over here and I was kind of undecided well now I am decided I've got an idea went ahead and drewed that up over coffee sent it over to my buddy Browder he's going to be coming over pretty soon to paint something on these doors so stay tuned you're going to want to catch that before that happens I want to get this truck back to where it was basically get the turn signal lenses and tail lights and all that stuff kind of back out the truck I got some new mirrors went ahead and splurged one was busted out and the glass was gone and all that stuff figured we'd doll this up a little bit I use this truck so much I could put a 100 bucks into it a guy figures all right let's start in the rear of a rig before we do this I guess I almost forgot I got a little excited L of you are going wait a second let's see the paint well it ain't perfect and that is perfect you know like I always say we don't want this too nice where we ain't going to use the thing kind of harder to see on this side the lighting is a little goofy but it's shiny it's white it definitely ain't perfect I'll tell you that much right now but we don't have to worry about scratching it we could still throw gravel in the back and wood and a hay bale whatever we want we don't have to worry about you know the paint anyway $60 $60 not too bad doing a light test real quick mazzle we here this one's a little there we go got a running light on this side and the back side's good we might have a bulb down I can't believe it guess I got to I'm looking right at it let me see if I can find one of these just walked 14 laps around here looking for this box and it was right here the whole [Applause] time H yep let's see if that does it it did for a second there we go all right we don't want any burnt out Tavern Stoppers okay on to lenses this is what I got these aren't the rigs that were on the unit of course those were really busted smashed they just were in bad shape however a guy went up to square body Boulevard and found these two this is more of silver rattle it's got the fancy trim on it which we're going to delete right now so they match and we'll pop these on these actually aren't that cheap so and the ones these are in good shape yeah beautiful thing about chevret from their engines to Parts like this they use for 37,9 12 years so you can find them let's see what am I doing here that ain't right that's right hand this is left [Music] hand it's kind of funny what a clean lens will do to a rig too it bites the eyes better there we go whoops cross thread's better than no thread boam well they ain't the greatest but they ain't busted out tell you that much okay now while we're back here and this bumpers in our teeth let's go ahead and address this right now I think I'm going to get the da out really quick knock this old sticker off clean it up just a tickle and then we're going to rechrome it and by that I just mean definitely not Chrome though I don't know what color red I'm kidding silverish I love Thea don't need a perfect you're just getting the flaps of the sold sticker off so the pain will stick got a little Carri it away anyway we'll stop here it's in terrible shape the more I dug used to be like an olive green or drab green I also found a bunch more of that dark green paint that spattered all over the cab and stuff I wonder if this was like a painting contractor's truck at some point in time any who found a color going to be using this uh stainless steel paint I actually use this for like my transmission cases and stuff like that but I couldn't find any cheaper aluminium stuff this this is a little spendy per can got to be honest with you but I think it's going to look good it's a very dark well I guess there's a there's a cap on it anyway going to get a chunk of cardboard and uh you know wedge that in to block our $60 paint job here and just light this thing up really is a nice color covers well too there we go go right over these lights and then we'll just get some steel wool or something clean them up they'll pull you over down here if you don't got your LP lit up don't know how it is in your state I guess everyone's a little bit different h mm happy little tree over here bam yeah it's looking pretty good not shabby bam brand and new bumper that's where that sticker used to be can't even tell yep you can but from back here can't even tell well kind of working our way forward here we've got some overspray on the tail pipe here and it looks pretty lazy because I am so we're going to un laaz The Lazy by being lazy and just take some cardboard scooter up in here bring this pipe right back to brand new we use all this on the welds for that stuff and then it shouldn't look so goofy y I thought I might have a 3-in tip laying around but I didn't I just didn't okay welding in new piece of pipe new pipe tag welding boom oh just there we go so like the guy was saying would it hadn't splurged on some mirrors this one was all busted up and wouldn't move or anything like that found these on the line 95 bucks ship oh yeah they're shiny starting to get a little nervous oh they came with Hardware even wow QC passed are these for either side okay if it's on this side then do we do this and that yeah I think so get these knocked on quick boom Oh Johnny be bad something [Music] something well I got too much going on okay are these still the same see they're probably 10 mm can't have nothing nice how's a guy hold 12 things with two hands stay stop it I just can't how was this so hard I can't believe this wellow there victory maybe we're not we're not done yet as expected completely ruined that perfect let's take all that back off that was just test fitting anyway you want to use an impact with plastic parts what is going on here will that do something probably not well give me a minute okay I didn't mean to Y you I just this doesn't seem to be going very good hey we got it you apparently have to be more human than human to put those on but we can actually see Reflections now just got to pop on the uh other side quick y yeah moving on to the there's a light goes here this is the the old one and this is supposed to be orange but it's mostly white and broken here and here and here and all of this and that it's pretty much junk went ahead and splurged look at this fancy get up and this is the fancier one it's got the little cheesy aluminium trim ring around it or whatever shines it up a little bit more I think is what they're trying to do we'll pop this bad boy in just to give the front end a little bit of color and can a guy see what's going on when his light blinks I can't even get this open for Pete's sake all right whoa is this burnt that is burnt out well over budget got to replace light bulb y yeah so picked me up an orange one going to have some extra flare also my blinker should be blinking right now might got a flasher down I think is what's going on there gives it a little more extra orange pop using the orange bulb instead of the clear I think clear is from the factory well we can upgrade her just a little bit you know there we go go until your new lens cracks perfect is there coating on here no just cheaply made cheaps like fine of course well I think a guy's pretty near got her back to where it was we got the bumper doled up put brand new exhaust system on it again we got brake lights mirrors turn signals got the weeper blad a on that are rotten and need to be replaced but yeah now I think since we're going for a real strong 80 look here you know late 80s early '90s you got to have a pinstripe you have to it's it's just one of the things now for all you OG Watchers out there when we paint trucks white it's supposed to be a red pin stripe and that's what my dad did for everything all of his service trucks his tow trucks at the gas stations or fleet vehicles if it moved it got painted white if it didn't run and was sitting in the shop and something else is getting painted white that's going to get painted white too and then there was red pin stripes even the horse trailer for Pete's sake anyway we're not doing red because of the door art that I want done on this truck I think we're going to go with a goldish color or kind of a tan which will also tie in the rotten severely Sun faded tannish brown interior I'll show you so in the Interiors of the rig here we got this tan Brown combo the door cards are a little dirty from use you know like here a little bit and they're kind of sun faded armor I'll probably bring them around not going to worry about them and then the dash is like this chocolate color see and the seat underneath this body glove thing is kind of a tan maybe someday recover that when it gets super terrible nope probably not but that's the inside right Tans Browns things of that nature so what a guy is thinking why can't we do a gold pinstripe not a not a big one not like the big fat 80s pinstripe just something a little more subtle because I don't want to take away from what we're going to be doing on the door here you know what I mean so I went ahead and did a stripe on this side and I'll just wanted to show you I guess what we're after and then the front here I just brought them together did a little bit differently normally I would go on the bottom of the body line but I decided to go on the top skinny one on top fatter one on the bottom and it just gives it a nice little I don't know something contrast I think that looks really good you know what I mean so we'll go over to the other side and I actually got Bentley here helping me we'll show you how to do do this on the other side super easy I don't know I'm not a pin striper Guy this is just how I've always done it anyway I've always followed the actual body line of the panel you probably noticed on the other side and I drove some of you guys with the OC d32f or whatever it's called crazy because they look crooked but they're not I've always followed whatever the line is so if the door is sagging or lower or the fender gap's wrong or whatever I keep the stripe on that panel to me it looks tackier to have a laser straight vinyl when you can clearly see everything is off now I did the driver's side first because the skinny was on the top but now we're backwards I have to flip this around in order to get the skinny on the top so Bentley's going to grab grab that and take off that way you can just keep going I'm just going to go to the end on this side that's pretty good oh Caprice is going to come and inspect the color so I'll come up here I'm going to pick right where my body line is starting I'm going to bring out now I roll the backing off only to the end of my panel and I just start eyeing this in boom now you can do this a couple times you don't have to you know it's not like once you put it down you can't ever do it again just don't do what I just did until you're ready the other thing is don't stretch this if you're pulling on it really hard you're stretching it and then when you let go it's going to shrink and shovel up and not stick very good I just cut a about a half an inch off going to let that just sit there a minute cuz we're still not done with that Capri sounds like Axel Rose is trying to sing today for some reason not really sure what's going on with that cat again just started on the front of the panel R Rock Bentley's helping keep all the extra out of my way cuz I don't care about it right now you notice on the other side door was sagging a lot cuz it didn't line up right yeah that's a good point I'm just going to going to tap it around I didn't squish it down yet this door lines up a lot better still not perfect what's going on cat you get too much cat nip in your food or what I like to get just get yourself started on the body line something like that go about halfway good enough got a little hump right there there you go remember you have to like slice the top mhm show you this corner it gets it's a little little more complicated I got just a little bump right here but I'm not worried about it so here's our initial line right now we're still not done though we got to make a point we got to take protective film off and back here I got to show you this notice how this is bunching up it's because the top of this is slanted so it's got a smaller radius than the bottom so I'm going to run a slice to separate these two so I can pull this one longer or shorter to get it to round this corner so I'm going to seat the bottom make a really delicate cut there you go boom now we'll go back and firmly press this into the paint all the way down and then we'll get the f off so on top of the stripe there's a film and to pull the film off the stripe you pull the film and what it's doing is actually just keeping these two perfectly separated but I just gently grab the corner with the razor blade like so Bentley's going to take off with it while he's doing that I'm going to take this top strip stripe and just pull it back I know you're here yeah I hear you mhm it's not that cold you did what drank all the cold snacks I'm not mad I'm impressed okay and I just brought it down and overlapped it boom cut a little angle on it what do you think approved yeah all right high fives well I think that's going to do it for tonight tomorrow morning my buddy browder's headed over and and uh we'll start working on the door art here I'm really excited for you guys to see this and I'm hoping it's going to tie everything together and don't forget I still have a massive change on tires and wheels subtle hint I shouldn't say massive you know what I'm saying you're really going to like it we've never never done any never done any Wheels like this so I'm going to introduce you to my buddy Browder in just a minute he just arrived uh before I get to that though Bentley and I are going to get working on our wheels and tire package so when router's finished we can get that stuff knocked on now again we're going for an 80s farm truck look here and that's why we added the pin stripe and we're going to do browder's going to do his thing on the doors you guys are going to love and these wheels absolutely scream late 80s to me check these things out got these from my buddy Chad not Chad not the other Chad these were actually on a Suburban some old turbines and they're eight Lug these things look awesome he ditched them because these are 16.5 Wheels which are almost impossible to find tires for I took a gamble I can't remember what we traded I think it was like a Walkman and a bag of dcky or something like that I did find some rubber for these but at first I think we're going to try to clean these up with a sand blaster or something they're pretty dirty just break dust and grime over the years and then when we get those done we'll get some new rubber on it and then we could throw it on the truck by the way some of you are going well wait a minute this ain't no $60 paint job if you're putting vinyl and painting the doors look I get it here's your $60 paint job you could stop there I'm decided to to not stop there that's why we're doing the stripeing the doors but we did accomplish a $60 paint job now let me dig out my hobo Freight junk sand blaster thing that plugs up every 32 seconds and see if if we can clean these wheels up so this my buddy Browder here uh met him in the parking lot of a part store we both pulled in with our old rigs har free yeah we kind of locked eyes like yep that's a guy so he's been doing this stuff he's an absolute black belt with the paintbrush you're going to love this he's done a lot of my rigs absolutely love his work I just give him an idea and he Nails it every single time and he's talking about some dimensions and multiple colors and he's already checked out the Pinstripe color and uh he'll mix some stuff up and get to work I'm going to let you guys sit back and watch this door go from a white canvas to artwork it's going to be awesome all right man have [Music] thanks [Music] well we have four loose wheels and what a battle that was so these are 15 uh I think by 12 and a half we should find a tape measure they're big boys uh really hard to Dismount and if you're wondering why we just didn't throw these on and use them well there you go they're all pretty well dry rotted it's too bad cuz they have a tremendous amount of tread left they must have just sat once I got on the rig you canot find these uh discovered or all terrains or any of these kind of tires anymore in this size 162 so now we'll probably throw these in the back of the blue truck kind of use it as a blast cabinet and see if we can clean these up a little bit before we Mount our new Rubber and this is what we're going to be using this is interco you might recognize that name they make like Swampers Super Swampers stuff like that this is their cheaper tire called called a VOR track I don't know it's what we're going to go with it's got a similarish tread nothing crazy but just a little bit of sidewall on it woo we are making a mess there is stuff well I'm just completely full but this is why I put them in the back of the truck we can catch most of this sweep it up dump it right back in so I got most of these on all the wheels now I'm going to try try to get in the little crevasses if I can and clean them up but man they're already looking way better and it's way easier than trying to get in there and you know wire wheel this or something like that so Bentley's installing new valve stems here these are the old ones you can see the rubber is really deteriorated and then we hit him with that aluminum oxide powder stuff that shined up my teeth a little bit so he's busting these out and we're going to put new ones in I was also able to clean up the bead here there was a bunch of old rubber these wheels have probably had 30 sets of rubber on them you know clean that up on both sides they're not perfect but man these look a lot better don't they Bud yeah I thought about painting them I think I'm just going to leave them raw that's just kind of the look that they had I've never had a set of a lug turbines I'm pretty excited about this is it stuck yeah just need Sasquatch strength so these are pretty simple you just choose the right size gasket go ahead and then wash here on the top side nut tighten it down you're good to go that's pretty good it's not spinning right this is uh body wash and water because it's the cheapest thing on the planet to uh Mount tires with works great you just got to get the stuff with the olive oil on it got it [Music] we should put those on the green truck what green truck the step side oh yeah better than the ones that are on it 100% on you help you got it spin it around there you go new wheel bearings wheel seals brand new studs drums yeah get the get the outsides too yeah you got to get the brake hardware there you go figured out what's wrong with cap rice she's in haat it happens all right Bentley just finished Craigs let rebuilding this side going to slide this in in about 2 minutes man what a difference we need these tires for the uh trails and paths that we have on our properties you know a lot of it's gravel just rough terrain grass terrain mountainous terrain hillsides we need some something wider with a with a good tread to be able to go anywhere especially in a two wheel drive right buddy Bentley bless his heart had some questions he was confused cuz we're putting new leaf springs in and break hard were in the rear but we didn't do that in the front and then I tried to explain to him economics and then we kind of got confused didn't we so then we just agreed that we're going to rattle can rebuild the rear end I'm running some white tractor paint in the wheel wells he's doing the springs and the frame back here and the honest reason for that is there's a lot of open space so when you look at a rig you know whether you're just walking out from the tabern or Bingo or McDonald's or whatever it is this is a whole lot of space in here that if you just spend a couple minutes doing this it makes a huge difference and we sanded out some of the rust divots you can see it's obviously different through the bottom area you can actually see the wave from the Sandpaper because we were trying to get all the rust Bubbles and everything out just try to prevent this from rusting for the next you know 3 to 8 and 1/2 years that'd be pretty nice well Remington the farm truck has complete let's roll this thing outside and take a look at it in the daylight well I tell you what i' never ceases to amaze me with a little bit of elbow grease spray paint and time can do for a project this $60 tractor paint job turned out phenomenal with the old used turbine Wheels some cheap pen striping and this awesome door art kind of a tribute to my grandparents there this truck looks absolutely amazing and the best part is it's not too perfect to still use we are going to thrash this truck around here that's what it's made for and every time I open that door you can guarantee I'm going to be smiling in remembrance of my grandparents what an awesome transformation this has been for this old rig here I think it deserved a little bit of lipstick and hey the best part is you know the wife calls you wants to go to supper or something real quick in town they just scoop her up in the old farm truck and it's good enough just good enough to be proud of but not good enough you can't come out here and use it we're going to go find a pump replacement for the fuel tank get that mounted back in there and do some other stuff you'll see the truck around in the background we're absolutely going to be using this thing well basically every day thanks guys for watching appreciate you so much we'll see you [Music] [Music] soon oh
