6: How to remove old cast iron sewer pipes

okay so back up here next day with Truman we're gonna clean up the mess I made the other day I'm gonna see if we can recycle some of the metal pipes but today our big job is taking out for a cast-iron sewer line see how that goes you all right you got all the plaster and lath down in the basement and now that it's down we can see the extent of this craziness you needed to move the toilet so just get out the floor joists no big deal over here we got to start taking out all these cast iron pipes this is the stack that goes out the roof and that goes up into the wall all the way out the roof so that's several hundred pounds of cast iron it's what a brace that I put this up here there's already a wire holding it but as I break through these fittings and pull out these pieces I don't want that stack coming down by ripping out studs or anything like that so we gotta brace pretty good this crap let's eat nice there you go oh that stinks some of your old poop right there all right we're to hit it gross that flange is still on there Oh you wanna take a look at it trying to hit it hey what's the just gonna try to break it like this treatment some kind of wire well that's another one of those jobs I was dreading that satisfying to get done as you can see there's no more water lines the more cast-iron sewer pipes and that's pretty satisfying it cracked open really easy with the sledgehammer I had bought like a really expensive ceramic blade for cutting through cast iron and all this and now we're gonna take it back and get my bunny back so that's pretty nice I had no idea that that's the best way to take out cast iron until I started looking it up on YouTube and found all these people had just cracked it open but let me show you something that will explain why I need to get rid of the sewer lines that is the pipe coming from the kitchen sink it's a two inch pipe but I'd be surprised if there's an inch of free space in there for water to flow through so good reason why we should change out these pipes that's very [Music] all right today was a pretty productive day we got a fit we gotta get out of here though cuz the dumps gonna close but we got all that ripped out of the basement gives us a whole bunch of room down there it's pretty exciting things to Truman for all this help because I couldn't done without him it's nice to get all those old sewer pipes out I wish we could have got this subfloor up in the bathroom but apparently they even though it's in bad shape it's impossible to remove they use some kind of super glue with that I want to find out what it was I want to use it but anyway so we'll have to come back you know the time to do that but I got a lot done today true me got a lot done today and
