look no hate on the 6'5 Creedmoor I like the six five Creedmoor I got a whole bunch of them but it does annoy me when all of the gun store shelves are just full of Creedmoor because the reasons that a lot of people buy a 6.5 Creedmoor I think there are some better cartridges at accomplishing those same things so the first one that I'm excited to talk about is one that I am dying to get one I don't have one right now and The more I've been looking at numbers this week I'm like dang it's just better than a 6'5 creating more there's there's no reason that I would get a 6'5 Creedmoor over this imagine this situation for me all right this is going to help explain kind of how I feel it's like you've been dating this girl she's great you like everything about her been on a bunch of dates you think yeah I might even want to marry this girl you go to meet the family and horror of Horrors she's got a twin sister the twin sister is funnier the twin sister is prettier the twin sister is smarter the twin sister is more athletic she's all the things and you realize maybe I've been dating the wrong sister that's how I feel look looking at some of these numbers so let me introduce you to not the six five Creedmoor but what if we take that exact same case same everything but we just make the neck a little bit tinier and instead of shooting a 6.5 millimeter bullet we shoot a six millimeter bullet out of the same thing that's called the six Creedmoor many of you have probably never even heard of it but it's very common they're everywhere and it's awesome let me show you some numbers so I'm going to include the six Creedmoor and the 243 Winchester in this the sixth grade more is kind of just picture think of it as an update to the 243. they're shooting lighter bullets you know the six Creedmoor and this is looking at Hornady Precision Hunter ammunition but it's doing so quite a bit faster 300 feet per second faster and then you look at a hundred yard energy and you say ah well the sixth grade mower doesn't have as much energy but if we're talking about just using these on deer-sized game and down it doesn't matter that's plenty of energy to kill a deer and for me that's all the 6.5 Creedmoor is I would not shoot elk sized game with a 6'5 Creedmoor I've done that I've seen Elk's eyes game killed with with a 6'5 Creedmoor wasn't pretty just didn't have the power that I think it should have and so we say doesn't matter if we're just shooting deer they're both kill the deer just fine the bullet drop at 400 yards and we say whoa the ballistics are a lot more compelling on that six Creedmoor it's dropping six and a half inches less at 400 yards that's significant if we're just target shooting now with that same cartridge out to 600 yards it's dropping whatever 17 inches less at 600 yards and then you say okay if it's got better ballistics it has to have more recoil that's usually the trade-off but it doesn't it actually has less recoil because it's again shooting those lighter bullets and so you can never actually say that one cartridge is better than another it's not really possible because there's always a trade-off should shoot it faster more powder well more recoil Etc but here's what I mean when I say these cartridges are better than a 6.5 Creedmoor I mean the reasons that people buy six five Creedmoor it's ubiquitous it's very light recoil it's great for killing deer-sized game has tight modern chamber tolerances for that accuracy those are good reasons to pick a 6'5 Creedmoor and as I look at all those reasons I say yeah the six Creedmoor just is a little bit better it's flatter shooting you'll kill all the same game but actually it might be better at hunting than the 6'5 Creedmoor because here's my take 6'5 Creedmoor is deer on down but I don't know if I would use 6'5 Creedmoor on coyote because you're going to be tearing up the Pelt quite a bit it's shooting those heavier bullets pretty likely to pass through both sides of it the six Creedmoor is very common for coyote hunting it's shooting faster light bullets that you can get to stop in the hide much more likely and so you say huh they'll both kill deer they'll both kill Antelope but now the six Creedmoor may be better for hunting coyotes and maybe a better hunting cartridge too anyway I just look at those two and I say dang we should all be shooting six creedmores for a lot of the reasons that you'd buy a 6'5 but there are other cartridges that I think are also very compelling when compared to the 6'5 Creedmoor we'll get into that in just a second first these are sweet check this out honey did you take the kamakoto knives again you know the ones that are sourced from Japanese steel mills they have that single beveled Edge it actually takes them several years to make the knives through a 19 step process I know they're way better than our kitchen knives but I need them for the video hun so these knives are seriously legit they cut through everything like butter each knife is individually inspected they come with a lifetime guarantee they come in this nice Ash wood box and they're used by Michelin star chefs all around the world check out kamakoto's early Black Friday sale at kamakoto.com backfire and be sure to use coupon code backfire when you check out because that's going to give you an additional 50 off the sale price and then you'll be slicing through everything no problem peaches apples soda cans never mind don't do the soda can the next Contender to try to bring down the six five Creedmoor is the 25 ought 6 the oft overlooked 25 ought 6. so it's taking the 30 ought 6 cartridge and it's neck down to 25 caliber in terms of ballistics you got to take a little tiny bit more recoil with the 25 ought 6 because it's shooting just a lot faster what like 400 feet per second faster is that right yes sir 440 feet per second faster even though it's shooting a little bit of a lighter bullet so there's that trade off you've got a tiny bit more recoil but the ballistics are crazy flat but another thing you've got to overlook with the 25 ought 6 is the fact that it's not ubiquitous at all it's hard to find rifles chambered in 25.6 it's hard to find ammo it's hard to find barrels with the last two and a half years that have been crazy to get ammunition 25 caliber was probably the worst caliber to shoot because the companies aren't making bullets for it they know if they make seven millimeter 30 millimeter 6.5 it's going to sell immediately 25 is less common so bullets have been harder to find so the Creedmoor definitely beats 25 ought 6 in that respect so can you say that a 25 out 6 beats a Creedmoor nah not at all but you can say that if you're using it for being a rain very flat shooting range gun and maybe even for hunting then you might say the 25 ought 6 beats it the next Challenger is the 308 now the comparison is a little bit strange if you think about it because we're talking about a much larger 308 caliber bullet versus a little 264 caliber 6.5 millimeter bullet they're pretty odd cartridges to compare but they're both very mild in their calibers they're both shooting pretty slow the 308 shooting even a little bit slower than the 6.5 Creedmoor in general but this the 308 adds something that the 6.5 Creedmoor can't 308 is stupid cheap to shoot it's the cheapest like big game hunting cartridge to shoot is the 308 in general I find that boxes of ammo comparative you know between companies you're going to save ten dollars by shooting 308 compared to 6'5 Creedmoor again you can't say 308 is a better cartridge than 6.5 Creedmoor but it does beat it on price it probably also beats it on Hunting capabilities a lot of people are hunting elk with a 308 who wouldn't hunt with the 6.5 Creedmoor so it adds some advantages but obviously the disadvantage of 308 is The Recoil has quite a bit more recoil than the 6.5 Creedmoor when you clicked on this video the one you expected to see first and probably in the intro that when I was explaining about you know the better looking twin probably a lot of you were thinking about the 6.5 PRC would be the one to compare and it's a worthwhile comparison so the 6.5 PRC just think of it as a 6'5 Creedmoor with 200 feet per second faster ammunition because it's going a little bit faster has that bigger powder capacity it's going to have just much better ballistics all across the board the only trade-off to six five Creedmoor and six five PRC is Again The Recoil so this is another point where you may start stop and think a little bit you say well 6'5 PRC The Recoil is still so light that I can give this to many youth Shooters I wouldn't call it like a level one like first gun to ever get a give a youth shooter you know that's probably your 243 your 6'5 Creedmoor the six five prc's got a tiny bit more recoil and so you may want to kind of that's the kind of the second step for a new shooter would be a 6.5 PRC kind of level of recoil but it's still very mild but here's the case I would make for Creedmoor over the PRC is in terms of hunting I still wouldn't un elk with a 6.5 PRC we've talked about that before on this channel I've killed elk size game with the 6.5 PRC not sold on it and so if they're both killing the same size of game unless we're making real long shots and we care about those long range ballistics just go to the Creedmoor because they're both going to kill deer just fine so benefits and drawbacks there I really like the 6.5 PRC but it depends on what side of the balance beam you want to be on the next Contender for the 6'5 Creedmoor to beat it up and take its lunch money or a few seven millimeter cartridges the seven millimeter 08 the 280 actually improved and the 7 PRC these cartridges are quite a bit different than the 6'5 Creedmoor but if the reason you're getting a Creedmoor is because it's so versatile it's a great range gun and you can hunt with it that kind of thing you may be better served by picking some of these seven millimeter cartridges in general seven millimeter cartridges are going to have higher BCS better ballistics coefficients than the 6.5 millimeter bullets that means you're gonna you know get less Wind Drift and drop and things like that given everything else being the same also seven millimeter bullets are widely considered a great choice for hunting elk sized game and so if we wanted our gun to be very versatile the seven millimeter bullets I think are a much better suited to that it's just a bigger cutting surface going into the animal but obviously you know the recoil of a six five Creedmoor to a 7prc there's a big difference I still find 7prc to be quite manageable for you know an adult man to be shooting it's just not that big of a deal but there is something about the 6.5 Creedmoor it's so nice to be able to spot your impact so easily with no Muzzle device that's a big advantage to have but if you're using your gun for Elk you might want to look at a seven last Contender against the 6'5 Creedmoor is the 270 Winchester slightly bigger bullet shooting it really fast better ballistics but not as good of recoil and the price of the ammunition is generally a little bit lower than the 6'5 Creedmoor 270 is a really great cartridge I just got one last week and I love shooting 270. so question for you in the comments and this is not like you know random comment like I I like reading through these I'm curious about this one so if you could control everything and you could going to the gun store and you could control which cartridges just everywhere that everybody's getting like right now that's the Creedmoor what cartridge would you say really everybody should be getting leave it in the comments thanks for joining me in this video we'll see in the next one
