5G: STILL NOT WORTH IT! Here's Why.

david i forget what were we doing two years ago today we published a video titled is 5g worth it no what the carriers aren't telling you and a lot has changed in those two years we want to go back watch that video and see if what we said held up over time and it did they're going to sell us 5g compatible phones yeah 5g well the first ones are actually coming out the new samsung phone but there's about to be some new samsung phones that are 5g sure enough we got some on the shelf back there i have an iphone 12 pro we had to wait a little while for the first 5g iphones but they are more than out right now google hopped in the fray lots of 5g phones is it worth it today well back in 2019 we said it's gonna take a long time to build out that infrastructure so they're good they're gonna build more and more and more and more towers to try and you know get those 5g speeds to everyone it's just it's also going to take a while to do that two years later we'd still still go so a couple of points you probably see 5g on your phone you might anyway maybe not probably you might we did a speed test the other day where we compared att 5g verizon 5g and verizon 4g lte in three different locations always apart from each other you should check out that video card above description what did we find out the fastest one was verizon 4g lte because lte is built out more you get a solid signal pretty much wherever you go and the speeds are so fast you know you can't justify the need for 5g we really didn't understand i don't think we didn't the difference we didn't understand the difference between low band mid band and high band as clearly as we do today another drawback different carriers are using different frequencies for 5g different technologies so verizon 5g is not the same as atm t5g low band 5g that is the most range but also the slowest speeds right but all of the commercials that you've seen that are showing these crazy high speeds are high band 5g commercials it's more than 10 times faster than some other 5g network 1.7 gigs here in houston 4.8 gigs here in frigid omaha so they only work in certain parts of select cities outside the signal doesn't go through walls or windows people i mean that's ridiculous right it sounds stupid in the middle of winter i have to go outside in new york to get the fastest download speeds nobody's doing that we have wi-fi inside too yeah and there's mid-band kind of the goldilocks zone where decent range right faster really fast decent range doesn't exist yet doesn't exist they're not saying that either so this low band 5g remember the rabbit ears we said this i think before rabbit ear tv they got rid of that and then they auctioned off that 600 megahertz spectrum that t-mobile is bragging about to t-mobile it's not new technology it's not amazing new stuff it's just the same technology repurposed so yes this 600 megahertz technology which is supposed to be impressive 600 megahertz well the 4g lte is like 1.8 gigahertz a lot of the time another thing that we said in 2019 was that there aren't any practical uses for 5g right now and i think our speed test really kind of solidified that aside from downloading software updates or giant games which usually we do over wi-fi anyway we have no need for speeds that are this fast right we did a youtube test where we streamed a 1080p video on youtube and 5g and 4g and it was the same yeah same speeds same latency back in the other video i put up this technical little graphic thing that showed that you only need 5 megabits per second to stream 1080p youtube every test that we did with 4g 5g whatever is more than fast enough so 3g to 4g was this huge difference to people because before we really couldn't stream video we couldn't do face-to-face calls or if we could they'd be really blocky and slow and crappy but then 4g came along and they blew the lid off of the possibilities so people sort of expect that 5g is going to be a similar leap it's not not yet anyway there is no need for any of these super high speeds 4g lte is more than fast enough back in 2019 we said that 5g was a lot of hype well it'll be interesting to see how the technology grows over time but right now 5g isn't as great as it's being made out to be were we right seems like that's the case absolutely a lot of marketing going into this and there still aren't that many practical uses we said in this video infrastructure is not there they essentially created a race against themselves and they all lost they all lost t-mobile is technically winning the uh right clobbering yep to the tune of at verizon complaining to the fcc that t-mobile is winning unfairly t-mobile's like no we're not which i which is funny because in 2011 i think it was t-mobile was complaining that verizon and att so everybody's like flipped roles well well well how the turntables another thing we said in the video is that 5g would make the current cell phone plans obsolete the current cell phone plans the way they're set up are in no way compatible with these types of speeds and i don't think that's true yet uh i mean yeah self lines are still pretty much the same they're including 5g but high band 5g isn't really here yet right we don't really know how that's going to affect the cell phone plan market right my point was that high band 5g let's say one gigabit per second you could run through your entire 22 gigabyte data cap in like a minute so that is crazy you know you wouldn't want to have like a minute of cell phone usage and then you're done with the plan for the month but since 5g hasn't been rolled out yet it should make a difference 4g lte is going to burn through your data faster than 5g is you know it's just crazy crazy and let's drop a bow on the marketing point with this comment we received in the first video whoops boys you missed the point it's not for us silly it's for automation surveillance real-time data fencing smart everything social credit system winky face i'm not sure what a social credit system is i don't know if black mirror 15 million credits 15 million credits give us a like and actually subscribe to our youtube channel that's part of the social credit system but it has nothing to do with 5g i don't know yeah i mean i think if you watch the ads coming from carriers almost all of them are being marketed for average consumers there are a few hand you know a few that are saying yeah verizon of the firefighters commercials it doesn't exist yet there are these specific use cases that verizon att has on their website where they're showing how you know like it's helping firefighters in this one spot where they went and invested a bunch of money so they could use that as a use case for 5g to try to sell it to everybody else but is anybody doing this smart everything no not 5g it's all hooked up to wi-fi and you don't need 5g when you have wi-fi not yet anyway right let's close with this you know we made some comments about you know potential 5g health concerns and i said you know maybe we need more uh peer-reviewed research and uh so far over the past years we've had none establishing those links yeah there have been no health concerns over the past two years data david yeah 5g yeah 5g yeah there was a whole lot by 5g anyway yeah yeah everything's been great for the past two years or were they right they weren't they were not right no they weren't but if you take it from our comments section we had the uh what what does 5g really mean according to one of the comments five equals penta g equals gram pentagram network is deadly radiation i i hope that this person is a troll yeah yeah i think they were joking around because they saw the other crazy comments on the video so feel free to
