[Music] we still own [Music] is [Music] he's still on the throne [Music] this life is a journey we walk about faith there will always be those mountains in our way but right here in this moment may our strength be renewed as we recall what god has done and how we've seen him move if there's anybody here who's found him faithful anybody here who anybody here brought through the fire stay amen and anybody here found joy in the middle of sorrow peace amen sometimes in the darkness it's hard to see but just be brave and follow where he leans cause greater is the one who's in us then he who's in this world so child of god remember that the battle is the lord if there's anybody here who's found him faithful anybody here who knows he is able [Music] anybody here brought through the fire [Music] [Music] is seated time and time again just say amen even in the valley of the shadows when you feel alone in the unknown just say amen just stay amen and even when the storms are raging standing no you're not forsaken to say amen to say amen is there anybody here is there anybody here [Music] [Applause] [Music] anybody here [Applause] joy in the middle of sorrow peace [Music] amen the book of james chapter number five the book of james chapter number five i appreciate the lord today and all that he's done and and appreciate the good spirit of god and how god's met with us and now we dive into the word of god we just ask the lord to be able to use it the way he has everything else amen i want to remind you as brother michael said a while ago and especially with this being our our largest sum service and number and quantity the importance that it would mean to me personally for your sake as a church on tuesday night i say that because i don't want you to think this just a meeting that we've thrown together that this is a time we have roughly about 18 pastors or and people in the ministry that reached out to us specifically during the covid when our church was the first church of this area that got hit extremely hard and we got opportunity we've had people that's made bait goodies and of course with gift certificates people has actually made different things and we're just putting a big bag together and we're giving every individual family cds and we're just we're just trying to love on them and here's why because some of you might realize this but sometimes the lord blesses us and we're quick to forget about his blessing and i'm not talking about a financial blessing i'm not talking about you know something that happens that's materialistic i'm talking about the people that god puts in our life and we just overlook that simple text when yet when we picked up our phone it meant more than anything or when we looked outside the window and we seen them praying it meant more than anything and you know but then all of a sudden time passes and we forget and i've asked the lord to help me to never forget the people that was obedient to the lord that not only did they love me but they loved you as a church you understand what i mean by that and uh so tuesday night you come uh be no choir singing so we're going to be mindful of everything when it being a week night and we're going to go right into it have a few songs and but it's time to be able to love old men but ultimately for us the church maybe you'll understand this that it's almost like a full circle you ever talk about see when people talk about that until things come to be full circle we never really see the big picture well now i look back after a year and i can see the lord doing some things so this upcoming tuesday night as a church we'll be celebrating and praising the lord for what he's done and then also at the same time we'll be honoring those men and uh so it'll be a special evening so you be here seven o'clock and you could it mean a lot to me and most of all i know it would honor the lord if you were two things most time it's known for works after salvation and it's always known for words or your tongue if you will in james chapter number three probably most convicting chapters in the entire bible about our language about our words is found in chapter number three when you come to chapter number five it ends the way it begins and it's very ironic but you know let's pick up in verse number 16 what the bible says confess your faults one to another and pray one for another that ye may be healed the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man of elith much elias who is the new testament name of elijah was a man subject to like passions as we are and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months verse 18 and he prayed again and the heaven gave rain and the earth brought forth a fruit you could stop there it's interesting to me that the lord uses elijah very interesting because first of all when you see that it starts with prayer and it ends with prayer there's a lot of things that i could talk about elijah but i'll be honest i don't know that that would be one of the first things that i would personally talk about and it's even more interesting to me that when he talks about elijah that of everything that we know about elijah when we know in first kings chapter 16 17 and 18 and we see the way that god used him and how he went through emotional rollercoaster and the powerful miracles that was done in his life and of all things god would choose to use his prayer life to talk about maybe the lord's trying to tell us something do you know this is the last place in all the scripture that god speaks about elijah so here he is at the end of his life as far as we know all the record that's being mentioned about him at the end of all of that the last thing that god literally says about this man is not about the fire falling down from heaven it's not about how he went with a at the brook and with the ravens or the widow it's not about all those things the lord zeroes in on his prayer life it's unusual because that's not what we talk about a lot a lot of times we want that story where jesus can take care of the blind and he can heal the sick because we relate to the sick and we relate to the blind we're like praise god jesus fix me and can i tell you just by reminding you today that there are some things that god can do and only god can do but there is a part that you and i must do for ourselves it starts with prayer i think of this thought this morning just with a question to challenge you do you want to make a difference do you want to make a difference in your life you want to make a difference in your home and your ministry do you want to make a difference in this world do you want to make a difference for the generation that's coming after or are you just riding through this thing i don't have time to meddle here but back may 1st as a pastor i was very serious about our leadership about them praying individually we've got a book for them to be able to go through and the reason is because i devoted to our staff to be able to pray for them to be able to pray with them as a pastor as an undershepherd to be able to understand if we're going to ever see anything that's real and authentic in this church it's not going to be an emotional preacher that's going to get you that anywhere it's not going to be an emotional song though they both can be used for god's glory it's not going to be all the bells and whistles put in place that's going to ever bring the power of god listen to me there's only one thing that will bring the power and god of god and it is simply a prayer life i want to ask you how's your prayer life you know i find it on a regular basis over the last few weeks a few months it's almost like we're we're tiptoeing around this all the time anymore prayer prayer prayer to all of our leaders and staff and their spouses let me ask you something have you taken advantage of that prayer book or have you taken for granted that prayer book because god called us to be leaders in this church how could we expect a church to be a church of prayer when we as leaders we don't even make it a matter of prayer to the sunday school teachers and the youth workers how how often are you praying because here we want this thing forgive me i love church friend and i love you but i've also been to churches where you could play church you could play the part of church you can look church people never get changed people stay the same forgive me i've seen people be stagnant and dormant and be calloused and cold they love the lord and they're saved they come to church and leave out the same way and that's alarming to me because i know if somebody really got in the power of god their life would change and we sit back and say well i can't believe so-and-so is still the same way i can't believe sister so-so ain't changed i can't believe they still act the same respond the same i can't believe that the kids don't do this or the young adults don't do this or the seniors are not this or that listen the question is this not how well you criticize and judge that's not making you a great leader i want to know how much you prayed now let's go a step beyond every one of us if you're saved by the grace of god you have a responsibility and the same power that's promised to me through my prayer life it's the same power that's promised to you through your prayer life and i want to ask you are you an anemic christian today are you an anemic christian today is your marriage an anemic marriage i didn't oh what brother jason is so i didn't ask you if it's strong i'm not looking at it from an earthly perspective it's your relationship with your kids are your kids anemic you say brother jason i feed my children i take care of them i'm not talking about physically i'm talking about spiritually do you pray for him because last time i checked when god gave us something he didn't give it to us for our glory so it could be seen he gave it to us for his glory that way for eternity we give it back to him we understand that we can't do nothing without the help of the lord on a good note let me say this if you're a leader you haven't been listen pick back up today because on day 30 you'll read about jonah tonight it talks about renewing yourself so you pick back up and just keep on reading how many of you glad you serve a god of second chances somebody say amen see if i was to talk about elijah there's a lot of things i would talk about but it wouldn't be his prayer life matter of fact i would talk about his personality because when you think about elijah he was a bold man he was an outspoken man god used him in a great way he was a courageous man and when he spoke listen it was almost like he commanded people's attention there was something great about him and his personality god used him in a great way but listen to me friend there is a distinct difference between personality and spirituality just because somebody can speak just because they can sing just because they have a lot of tweets and a lot of facebook likes and they got a great following just because somebody has a great personality does not mean they are great in their spirituality i wouldn't give a plug nickel for a man that preached the word of god but never prayed and got the power of god on his life every time i've ever talked listen god never gave me a voice but every time i've ever talked to a singer and they say what do you want us to sing i always say whatever is on your heart because i don't want somebody to be able to get up there and try to amaze us with just a song that they like or they can hit the keychains or they almost fit like feels like it fits the puzzle piece that way everything looks great in the service no friend i want the power of god i want to be in the presence of god give me somebody that holds a microphone that prayed that day somebody that mounts the pulpit that prayed that day a sunday school teacher that prayed that day a mama and daddy they prayed that they give me somebody that prays that's what i want personality won't change nobody but spirituality will matter of fact if i was to talk about anything i might even talk about his ability to preach elijah was a preacher man he was a preacher he could preach the house down god used him in great ways but isn't it amazing that god never said anything about his preaching the last time he talked about it he talked about his prayer life maybe the lord is revealing to us that there's something that is unseen that is so significant in somebody's life there's something that's in the shadow that matters more than what you do publicly see if you want publicly to be right then privately you must be right if somebody looks weak publicly they're probably weak privately they ain't praying the way they should [Music] the power of god can't be on them i would dare say that elijah was somebody that he understood what it what it was like to get along with god he knew what it was like to be able to get down and and get on his knees before god and before he ever chose to be something before man he chose to be something before god he says god i want to submit to you i want to honor you i want to die to self and i want to live for you he humbled himself and he died daily and because of that god used him in a great way when's the last time you prayed that way not that you prayed for your husband not that you prayed for your wife not not that you prayed for your children how that you had a need when's the last time that you did not just pray but you literally got down and prayed and your prayer was lord i need you today i don't know what it is because it's easy to pray when you know you got mountains it's easy to pray when you know you're about to walk through a valley but i'm not talking about you got a need when's the last time there was such a dependency upon the lord in your life that you got up and you talk to god privately and before you ever face the man you know to a god and you say god i need you today if i'm ever going to be the daddy the husband the leader the mentor the pastor that i need to do god i pray that you help me today was the last time you've done that in your own life and we wonder why our country is unraveling you know why because we as christians who have experienced the power of god have aborted the opportunity to participate in the power of god because we don't experience because we never act upon it when the truth be told we have access because of jesus it's like he he says to us here's the keys here's the case how do we get into this place how do we get into the secret place how do we get into the holy of holies if you want to say it that way how do we experience the power of god where our kids can see the lord how is it it comes with the ones who have the keys we have access i'm telling if you want to make a difference today it's not going to be about your personality it's not going to be about your preaching it's not going to be about your talents it's going to be about how you pray how you pray i'd go a step further if it was me and i was talking about you know what i talked about i would talk about all the different powerful miracles that he had i would talk about the way that god used him and how he prayed fire down and how god just done stuff in his life i mean that's the way i would finish talking about him because what i would want people to be able to know is that here this man was he was used in a great way and yes it did god it did give god glory there's no doubt it gave god glory but the lord is still zeroing in it's what you do privately that makes you who you are publicly you know probably can you ever go to his services and you're like i know we've been in them too but the preacher can't even preach god just moves in that place and and i hear and forgive me i love y'all but i hear them old-timers and i consider myself quote unquote because i would say the same thing or i would hear the the old hanes out here say well i wish it was like it was well listen god ain't changed so where's the prayer warriors well this generation is different friend but god's not changed well i know but you know now we move location there's new but no but god's not changed i mean do you understand there is no excuse if anything's changed whoever's praying is what's changed because i believe god honors prayer you know verse number 16 notice what the bible says he said confess your faults one to another and pray one for another that ye may be healed then notice this the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man developed must listen that's loaded right there the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man so in other words you can't live however you want to live right it developed much but if you believe that statement this morning i want you to say amen amen i believe it i guess here's the question and if we believe it so much why do we practice it so little if we really believe the factual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much why do we practice so little and we sit here today and it's like i didn't come for a show i didn't come for some kind of spectate uh spectacular thing i didn't come to be able to see the who's whose or the mies bees or whatever else i didn't come to do all of that i came to see the power of god okay well let me ask you this how much did you deposit into heaven this morning to see it happen if you and i are really burning for that lost person if we're really broken for that one that's saved and been away from god if we're really devastated and burdened and and broken for them how much have you deposited on somebody else's behalf that's the question everything that's done is never going to be done by our own power it's not going to be done by what we orchestrate about how we manufacture something the power of god cannot be manufactured by man it's only by the power of god that we get the things we get and that comes by praying the way we should so i ask you again do you believe that i don't know if you know this but do you realize that for israel do you realize that literally that king ahab was known as the most wicked worst king that they had ever had but it's so amazing that even in the midst of the worst king they ever had they had the greatest prophet you know and i sit around i listen all these people complain and murmur about leaderships and headships and and churches and organizations in a country christian we're not talking about carnal people listen i mean i'm just telling you the way the lord's given to me this morning i mean we as god's people sit around and complain about everything and we wonder why is there no change what what's not going on friend i'm telling you if god's people would pray the way they should pray god could turn a lot of things around even though we don't realize it sometimes the bible says in the book of first kings chapter 16 you say i don't believe that he was the most wicked there's no way god can use one person to be able to help a nation that's impossible brother jason there's no way that can happen well let me tell you what the bible says the bible says in first kings chapter 16 verse number 30 he says ahab the son of omri did evil in the sight of the lord above all that were before him he said he is identified as being the most evil that's ever been before him but yet god blessed because there was one man that was praying he says in verse number 33 and ahab made a grove and ahab did more listen to this he did more to provoke the lord god of a israel to anger than all the kings of israel that were before him so when you look at this man listen he was wicked he was vile but yet because of one man praying let me ask you this i wonder how many homes are ruined today because somebody didn't pray the way they should i wonder how many children walked away because we didn't pray the way we should i wonder how many churches have friction because we didn't pray the way we should you know a lot of times i'll get phone calls from younger preachers and and i'll talk to him i'll meet him in passing and through conversation or testimony or something we'll talk and they'll kind of know my story and uh and they'll always call for accountability there's this one young man i'm thinking of right now just talked to him last week and he wanted accountability he's a great preacher loves the lord he's well known travels a lot with his pastor and i'm thankful he called me because when he called me he said but jason i just i need to know what i need to do i you know this sits uneasy with me about my pastor and you know he gave me a b and z and and uh all the other things and and i listened to him he he said can you give me some advice and i said well let me tell you this first of all nobody knows god's will for your life except for god period secondly i said i'm glad you called me and here's why because most people will criticize that pastor because it's so easy for people not just christians the world even preachers criticize preachers somebody help me right there and i'm telling you that's how bad is god so here's what i told him pray for him if you pray for him it's going to be hard for you to criticize him if you pray for him the way you should i told him about a couple weeks ago he called me i talked to him last week i said how's things going he said listen to me he said every sunday morning i go knock on a study and say preacher there's something i can pray about the day before you take that pulpit he said our relationship is starting to get so much stronger than it's ever been because i've begun to experience something i've never known i just began to pray for him what did god that we would give advice like that all the time amen when a wife talks to another wife what my husband's a b and c what do god then a wife would say well why don't you just get down and start praying for him instead of talking to somebody else instead of talking to me go pray for your husband pray with your husband and then vice versa the devil is sneaky friend he will get in there before you do it you're reacting and responding based upon your own wisdom we don't need to live by our own wisdom we need the wisdom of god and the only way that's ever found and known is through the prayer life the prayer life let me give you a few things this morning so what does it mean to make a difference what's that prayer look like number one notice verse number 17 elias was a man subject to like passions as we are and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain i wrote this down you can write it down if you're going to have a prayer life that's going to make a difference you need to be able to have a pr a passionate prayer he said he prayed earnestly i mean it's a it's a passionately prayer and listen passionate prayer is not somebody gets up and they they pray for 30 minutes that's not a passionate prayer it can be but that don't mean it's passionate if they got eloquent with their words and they're able to be able to speak well that that don't mean that that's a passionate prayer and the bible says that he prayed earnestly that means when you look that word up he was praying within his praying he said a prayer within his prayer i mean literally he was in tune with god he had blocked out everything that was going on and he was talking to his heavenly father i want to ask you when's the last time you've done that was the last time that you got to that place where you you play you prayed earnestly and and you prayed heartfelt because you were talking to the lord the one that had the ability i was telling the other church or the earlier church i was talking about when i first got saved and michael kind of smiled so i feel like either he's done this or he knows preachers who's done this but it's a habit just because sometimes we we get nervous but i remember when i first got i got saved and called to preach every once in a while i get called to be able to come and pray up at the pulpit or whatever it may be and there's a habit there's a tendency that you get to be able to come up and you begin to start off and you know and again you're somewhat nervous because obviously don't always do it by the way if you're ever not nervous and you understand there's a balance is there in other words if you ever get to where you think you got it then you ain't never got it right so i'm not just talking about that but i'm talking about coming and in your mind you have this picture of what a prayer is supposed to sound like so in other words what i'm supposed to do is i'm supposed to kick start the service right here with this prayer you know and i get up here and i say dear heavenly father i want to thank you for this day i want to thank you lord for being so good i want to thank you lord for my pastor i want to thank you for my church oh god i prayed to you i'm before you know man i'm like preaching in my prayer right just because somebody prays loud don't mean they're praying earnestly now i'm not saying they're praying loud they're not praying earnestly but that's not what it's talking about i'm talking about you being in tune with god in tune with god you know what i like it encourages me i'm talking about the passionate prayer notice what the bible says there in verse number 16 that he was subject to like passions so here he is he is passionate in his prayer but that encourages me because that means he's just like me that means he's went to a god that was not weary when he was weary he's when he was he went to a god that had all wisdom when he was ignorant in other words he faced everything that you and i still face but he was still passionate in his prayer life i want to ask you something not only how is your prayer life but secondly i guess this would be the question is your prayer life passionate passionate the second thing i'll give you this morning is found in verse number 18. notice what the bible says notice the first words and he prayed again over the last few months i'll never forget right before i began the journey i in the book i studied about prayer and i preached on hannah and how she kept praying man my heart was convicted i went back to my my prayer book and i started thinking about people that i've prayed for that listen to me i quit praying for oh i'll be honest with you i was convicted and the reason was is because brother michael i got tired i got weary somebody even got frustrated with think i've been praying but yet nothing's changing you know the bible says elijah did he kept praying he kept praying he didn't stop he didn't get tired of it he didn't turn around and say well i'm done with it no he understood what the bible meant when he says to be able to pray and faint not to be able to pray without ceasing he understood it by the way that's a command that's not a question that's a command we we should keep praying over and over and over and over because prayer is what helps us get through everything i know if you ever study elijah's life stay with me but elijah don't go from sermon to sermon he don't go from meeting to meeting he don't go from miracle to miracle he goes from prayer to prayer everybody all right you know our kids today well you know what what's the journey of your life and forgive me i got a son just like yours he'd probably say the same thing well i'm going to elementary to middle school middle school to high school high school to college and then i'm going to get a job it's like levels right maybe that's where we're missing it we're teaching them at a young age that it's about events that makes them go from one step to the other one the truth be told it's not it should be about prayers and when god finishes in this when he opens this one now it's it's a new beginning and then it's a new beginning and then you look back and say well how did you make it through eighth grade whenever you didn't think you was going to make it when you were in sixth grade i just kept praying well yeah but when you was nervous going to high school and you was up there in ninth grade and all those sophomores and juniors and those those those seniors and you was nervous how did you make it here you are graduating how did you make it well i got lucky i had a few tests had a few teachers like me no no no no no what if your children said well because my mama and my daddy taught me a long time ago that if i would just start praying and trusting the lord and all i can tell you now is that i am where i am by the grace of god and if it wasn't for the lord i would have never made it you said yeah they're too young to learn that no they're not they're not too young for the devil to teach them how to be deceitful they're not too young for the devil to be able to attack them and ruin their lives are you listening to me they're not too young for that so they should not be too young for spiritual things praying again when you study out elijah's life some of you know he went to the place of charity when he went to cherith what happened he prayed again after he left cherith you know what happened he went to bare sheba he got to bear sheba what happened after he got done there he prayed again and then he got done there and then he went to a harbor and he got there what happened after he got there he prayed again so every season of his life was transitioned by prayer by prayer and again we wonder why we are so anemic we're wondering you know listen i love y'all and i love jesus but i need to say this okay so for some of us the last step we ever took for jesus and this walk with christ was the day we got baptized you you don't know the last time that you answered a call that you started something that you've done something that god specifically said to you can i ask you something did god quit speaking or we just quit asking or we just quit listening i mean it's easy when you get saved well like i get baptized join the church praise the lord i've arrived for a lot of us and by the way that's a reflection of our churches too amen that's not i mean that's not on you what i'm saying to you look at me god's got a plan for your life and the way you get it is not through the preacher not through somebody else not through some tv evangelists no the way that you're going to understand the next step of your life is through prayer it's through prayer you know what i'm going to do i'm going to support you all the way through it because i have learned from many of you that god's not going to tell me the will that he has for your life amen he's not going to tell me that he's going to tell you that my job is to be able to cultivate an atmosphere where the presence of the lord sits in this place to where you know how to get a hold of god to where you do make a decision you don't have to aimlessly live this life but you say i know how to pray about this and not only that i know what it's like when god answers a prayer and then i know how to turn around and give god thanks for answering the prayer that he gave me i mean that's what i'm talking about a prayer life let me give you a third thing not only is it a passionate prayer not only is it a persistent prayer but thirdly it's a private prayer it's a private prayer i don't know if you know this or not i get somebody to come to the piano i've got y'all keep your bibles open because there's a few more things matter of fact you could turn your bible to first kings chapter number 17 because you need to see this some of you have read james 5 for a long time but i don't know if you realize it but verse number 17 and verse number 18 is two different prayers james 5 17 and 18 is two different prayers matter of fact verse 17 is chapter number 17 the first kings verse 18 it's chapter number 18 the first kings verse 18 you know all the details about it was the public prayer you remember that one when he prayed down fire y'all remember all that right you remember when he prayed down fire and god showed up and he proved that his god was the god not a god but he was the god you see everything about that prayer but let me ask you something have you heard any details about the prayer of chapter number 17 the answer is no you don't know why because it was a private prayer now i'm not i'm not a genius and i'm not a scholar but let me go a step further according to my calculations 17 comes before 18. am i right on that i said am i right on that so i believe i serve a god a perfect order so what's god teaching us before what you do publicly ever really matters and makes a difference there must be a place privately you know how to get ahold of god the bible says in chapter number 17 verse number one listen to it the bible says elijah the tishbite who was in the inhabitants of gilead said unto ahab as the lord god of israel liveth before whom i stand there shall not be dew nor rain these years but according to my word most people preach us and praise god elijah is the man no friend he wasn't the man he'd been alone with god how do you know he'd been alone with god notice what the bible says in verse number two he says and the word of the lord came unto him saying in other words he was talking to god long before chapter number 18 ever came about he was already in a secret private place with god and god was talking to him so the next steps that he was making was not just because he was wise it wasn't because he was a great man it's because he can go back to a place in his life where he had literally sat down he sat down with the lord and he talked to the lord and he let the lord begin to speak to him and he opened up his mind and he opened up his heart and you see him now falling on his face before god before he ever stands on his feet before man and that's why god used it so she begins to play what's what are the three things about a private prayer life you ready number one it's a place of silence it's a place of silence that private prayer life is where you get along with god and all the busyness slows down i don't know if you read chapter number 18 but there was a lot of commotion that was going on in chapter number 18 for elijah he said how can a man be so disciplined how could he be so focused it's because he went back to a chapter number 17 where he had a private prayer life and he learned listen to me to be silent the lord spoke to me and i stopped for a second just testify the sweetest moments of my life is when the holy ghost allows me and helps me and enables me to drown out all the noises and by the way the loudest of those noises sometimes is me [Music] and he just speaks to me [Music] he says things like you were talking everything's gonna be all right my response is how lord he said just be still just be still elijah got to a place where he was at a silent place not only is it a silent place but it's also a place where god speaks did you see what verse number say verse number two said it said that the lord had said unto him can i tell you something if there's anything we need in this life it's not what the preacher has to say and it's not no offense but it's not what our mom and our dad and our our spiritual heroes it's not all about what they have to say you know what we really need you know what i need i need to know what the lord says and sometimes that don't mean you come to me and say hey brother jason you're a great pastor if you've been praying the lord says you need to go tell them to tell them that you know you feel like you're abandoned you need to come too so i've got a problem with jason you're abandoned just do it with a smile on your face amen in other words it's not always easy things that the lord tells you to do but if you're obedient to do what god tells you to do he will always provide a way because the bible says and ye shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free so before you go to that person lord i need you to talk to me what do i need to say the lord can speak to you you know when i come and i preach in the morning brother michael testified brother daniel and anybody else or in different services we might preach the same outline that god gave us but the holy ghost will say it completely different not changing the context why because there's different people sitting there do you know how that happens we have to pray what your people need to hear what do they need to hear look at me i'm just telling you i love you today and my desire every time you come to this church has got nothing to do with being enamored or amazed by a sermon of our song i want you to walk out here and know that jesus spoke to you and not only that listen that's where god spoke when then lost what's the third thing in the private play not only is a place of silence a place where god speaks but listen this it's a place where god tells you what to say he tells you what to say he said aren't they the same thing no friend one is god talking to you and the other is god telling you what to go tell somebody else do you know when the greatest enemies and the greatest downfalls of relationships today what it really is it's this thing called a mouth it's this thing called a tongue and we are ruining our homes our lives our ministries our marriages our relationships we're ruining a church because we all have sometimes good intentions it's not always spiteful but we speak without ever talking to the lord and god says let me tell you what to say you say now you're meddling you're just making stuff up brother jason no no no listen to me if you study elijah's life do you know who he had to talk to next he had to talk to king ahab can you imagine you ever been in that moment in a moment of confrontation have you ever went into that moment that was going to be a heated moment listen to me you were about to get into a heated conversation and in your flesh you really just want to make it plain friend but god says no i need you to submit to me so he goes from talking to king ahab to go and read chapter 18 to talk to a man by the name of obadiah obadiah was a weary man so now you look at this man and you're like here he is he could speak authoritative to somebody but how can he all of a sudden maneuver and transition but now he has compassionate words to another man i'll tell you why because he talked to the lord and the lord told him what to say [Music] so he's able to be able to speak truth to this wicked king but then when he gets beside this weary man he still has words of life amen [Music] it'll stop there then he goes to the widow's house and he gets to this widow's house and here this man that had to speak to the king and he had to speak to a weary man now he's here in front of a widow and surely how's he going to know what to say here he's never dealt with this before i'll tell you how he knew he had a private prayer life i i really don't know where this gets you today but i just want to just maybe testify maybe you listen to my scars and my battles for a second maybe it can help you i never know when i get up every day what i'm gonna face i don't know the text that i'm gonna receive from you or your family i don't know the heartbreak that i'm going to hear i don't know the gossip that's going to somehow it's amazing how being a pastor i hear everything i mean it's unreal it's unreal and i get up in the morning and i'm telling you i don't pray because i'm spiritual i pray because the lord has taught me the hard way if i tried to live this life he's called me to do that by the way is just as valuable as what you are doing then i would mess up my marriage you know why because i would let the pressures of life be filtered through in this relationship right here [Music] i would mess up my relationship with my son because i would let the pressures of life be poured out right here i might even have a couple in the church that just needs a moment but because i'm not being led by the lord i begin to let loose to get frustrated on something i shouldn't be frustrated because i'm living in the flesh and not in the spirit do you understand it is imperative that we get up every day and be in a secret place with god and say lord i need you to tell me what i need to say [Music] i close with this samuel chadwick manor wrote a lot after prayer talking about making a difference today and i'll close listen he wrote these words he penned these words and i quote nothing would turn the nation back to god so surely and so quickly as a church that prayed and prevailed the world will never believe in religion where there is no supernatural power a rationalized faith a socialized church and a moralized gospel that it may gain applause but they awaken no conviction and win no converts [Music] prayerlessness it goes on the same and he says this there is no power like that of prevailing prayer there's no power like that he gives examples of abraham pleading for sodom jacob wrestling in the stillness of the night moses standing in the breach hannah intoxicated by sorrow david heartbroken with remorse and grief jesus [Music] jesus in sweat and in blood i'm not talking about saying your little prayers i'm not giving you an invitation today and just say i'm going to start praying more i'm talking about being a person of fervent prayer of earnest prayer of still going back and praying again for those people and having a desire to be able to see the holy power of god come in this place and change lives to where we're not just passive sitting around and saying well we went to church today i'll tell you something just because you went to church don't mean and mean you got in touch with heaven amen everybody all right i know i'm long-winded today but it's all right right now [Music] these are the last things said about him the last things that was said about him was he was a man of prayer there's a come a day brother travis well you're going to lay at rest is there come a day that i lay at rest you let rest would be the last thing that was said about you [Music] with all due respect i don't i don't want i don't want you as a church to say well we love brother jason because he just had a he had a good heart no we love brother jason because he you know he'd always hug us and make us feel loved and you know we loved him because he'd always keep your attention when he was preaching no no no no when i pass on i want my family to say i know my daddy prayed i know my husband prayed i see god answer his prayer because he prayed and god answered his prayer i'm going to keep on praying that's what i want to be said in my last days not a church not a building but we still serve a god who answers would you think about what you need to keep praying for today renew yourself father help us today it is a joy and a privilege to be able to know that you've tuned in and i pray that today that the word of god that was shared will be a blessing to you if somehow some way that the lord has spoke to your heart and maybe you're sitting where you are and you don't know for sure that you're saved by the grace of god and you've ever trusted jesus christ as a personal savior and i want you to know that the word of god says that all have sinned and come short of the glory of god the bible makes it very plain for the wages of sin is death but the gift of god is eternal life through jesus christ our lord he said how do i get saved you have to trust in christ and christ alone repent of your sin and then know as the bible says where jesus says i am the way and i pray that today that that will be your desire to be able to seek out for the lord jesus christ to be able to trust him as a lord and savior if you do that today and you repent of your sins and you take him as your savior would you do us a favor and contact our church office at 336-788-0551 we would love to be able to speak with you
