#52 We find the Mother Lode and the Gold Belt ! Two abandoned mines in the Sheep creek area

everyone so we've got a pretty safe show here this week me and Ken were ahead and back up the Sheep Creek up near Selma and we found this really cool concentrator a mother lode line and we hiked way up the mountain there and followed that and just got the media scram it's pretty much all leaked there this big block Smith shelf up there and then come back down mountain found a really cool mine went in for it goes into my mouth all kinds of glucose Australia all kinds of rail cars is electric locomotive a whole blacksmith shop tram parts and whatnot and um yep you'll really enjoy the show is actually the tram Tower at the very bottom this stuff is all burnt here you can tell all the metal this stuff is kind of twisted and bent here the mines further up these are the remains of what's left at the concentrator I guess of the mother lode mine there's a tram that goes way up the mountain and we're going to head up there and try to find the mother lode up there somewhere so this is where the tram was looked like it's a pretty big mill in here lots of buildings in here they had a big fire here you think this is probably a part of an ass hairs office because I'm going to punch this little fire brick here and then there's also how much these when you think they were for a saying and this is cool kind of cool because you see that Center what they call that but it's a taught part of the I have the bottom part of try them at home and the bucket just blocks into these two years and way it goes so we're getting a little better educator on these Tran boxes so let's walk it here these are yours it clipped into there so then a lot of protect right this part here yes these two will rolled on a great big heavy cable this cable here and then there was a haul back cable here and it went through this clamp here so it was like a clothesline so it rolled on here this whole thing and then the cable blotted welcome down the cable so this table have been static wood picked summer and this cable we've been hooked up to a winch now there's two possibilities either it's a gravity tram where some older cars bring em to ones up or down more [Music] okay so this bucket is on the we're gonna call that the hanger I guess you can see it just looks on there and swivels on there and so there's a little catch here right here it's got like a spring in here and that catches right there so goes tip top would catch into there over leader and then they held this lever and I think it strikes something as it comes down near the unloading thing so that allow it to trip it would flip over bite so I'd look like it tripped itself to me either little tables are falling but they go way up there harrrr we're continuing up this pretty steep grade so now I got four cables so actually following twelve lines of Tompkins mountain we hiked up above that other tram Tower it's getting steeper and steeper there's another one not much left of it but it's kind of built on the side of the cliff was cable up here see there's a mine hearing I'm carrying all the heavy cameras and here comes can with all the roadster the light stuff but I like that for review good please put in office yeah it's the middle of man look at all the snow the still here pretty tough country to mine pretty good grade coming up here against deep Frank one of the most determined people I know rock climbing in lager corks we're heading up a pretty steep canyon here and the past a couple goats on the way look at all these trees right here hope there's a goat right below us there so there it is Frank's looking for the other smaller Strom we found right there is a little blue insulator from a telegraph line or whatever line it is it's a little copper line that goes up the mountain always cool to find this stuff when you're hiking up an old an old tram line little rail car we're about three hours up a very steep mountain here I don't know if I should show Frank Luntz or not he'll want to bring it down steep mountainside trams well it's really nice so here we are about three hours up this mountain anyone who thinks this is easy work what Frank does here there's a lot to this a lot of research travel he drove an hour and a half's to meet me here this morning you know as editing is climbing up here it's a lot of work for a 20 minute or half-hour show so enjoy it well we've reached the top so here we are this really cool has a pretty tough night coming up here but it's going to be a lot tougher going down the reason is you're gonna have so much stuff to carry there's all kinds of cool stuff here check this out blasting caps CIL Hunter blasting caps just a beautiful tin box not even already rested or nothing this looks like it was a blacksmith shop here all kinds of cool stuff here's a forge some of the tools for the forge well now awesome a look at that hole and stuff a whole bunch of these reusable drill bits piles of these I guess they're you know I guess scissors you think they're used but that seems pretty sharp I don't know if they've been used what's new to me now this is really cool look at this carbide definitely going to be taking this carbide 10 awesome card I think I'm going to be taking that stop well we'll see how much stuff leave on whole bunch of railing here yeah for cars wool door cars a look at these the derivative ones smooth tools axles and cars just all kinds of stuff here this is a label on this workhorses our Hudson limited makers something Foundry leads its kind of interest look at this old gold pipe is made out of wood we had a saloon here a long time ago probably to generate electricity went through the bush up to another creek of these old hands steel here before they have blasting machines or jackhammers they just had those hands steel and now that's how they dug the hole for the diamond here's old jackleg a gopher I guess I don't the difference between one condom yeah there's another one bet that'd be big heavy bugger to take man to run that thing so much is away I would say that 80 90 pounds yeah there's a whole big winch for the brain Olaf if this is where the other cables go I bet you they ask so this is for something else there's another jack leg or drilling machine this one is a Canadian ingersoll-rand pretty heavy it's a drill machine always uh probably 150 pounds pretty old - there's the pertinent bit went in I guess big boiler some kind of a pressure vessel and the pipes going on right to the tower up the banks to the mine I haven't been up there yet that's where I'm headed Frank's already up there sandwich in one hand Gatorade on the other hand and shimmying across some sketchy old steel looks pretty cool so far ah look at the pegboard there keep track of the loads great yeah pegboard come colloids awesome finish you see there's a this lever would open this genius is it work no works and all the rush is going to come down and talk did it even went into the bucket tell them ding here they probably had some kind of alarm system a solar car for work on a small copper wire so well if there's an issue at the bottom they able to go up ringing a bell or something that would rang up here told them to stop the biggest off it is the whole backline here and these are the static lines these wheels would run in the static line too one on either side you really having trouble figuring this out because it seems like this is a gravity trap and you know one goes out and one goes down because this is the end of line this can't go any further than here but there's all kinds of buckets all the way down there we see all kinds of buckets so you really understand why you don't only have two small buckets doesn't make any sense to us there's the big bull u-haul the whole backline might have just go this long it's rotating and there's no one right so that big of a cable we might have to go up there to see if there's a winch up there what's going on there let's check it out [Music] oh let's run the brakes definitely a freewheeling a trim yeah because there's no more or anything in here any gearing to that I can see gravity so all they had was just stupid brake bands probably leading from the mine back down the mountain so this is much easier with the way we came up and found the hole now it's really cold here they're just screaming out of here [Music] [Music] [Music] another level or something feet still drive more or less this is how the one boot that's a little weapon might just temporarily could call it hair net acquaintance what else to my neck a gross little water never hurt anyone way up shower just put every day is another one of them and you don't have to you don't have to hike three hours down a steep mountain to get to your warm clothes well the door was open any like that meant that you know you always take all this rock falls all at once but it could be just a little at a time you know might not be a big flop will be a little bit of frost I'll Another good video is this one, where he takes some students into an old mine to catch and monitor bats.
