thank you to yola for sponsoring today's video i know exactly how difficult life is when you move to another country and how important it is to keep in touch with your loved ones you can't afford expensive international calls when you start living on a new continent well fortunately i have found a fantastic app yola with yola you can make cheap international calls to mobile and landline phone numbers and unlike some other apps i've tried my phone number is always shown to the person i'm calling so my friends and family always know who is calling them and they don't need to have an internet connection on their side so if you just like me want to make cheap international calls get the yola app using the link in the description to this video and if you enter the promo code yobe's home then you will get a pleasant bonus stay in touch with your loved ones even if they are far away thank you for your support yola and now on to today's video hi welcome to yogi's home today i'm going to be sharing with you five ways that my kids lives would be very different if they lived in the united states versus their lives here in the netherlands so if that sounds good to you why don't you come on in kick off your shoes and stay a while i'm really glad you're here [Music] i do feel like i need to give a quick content warning here um please do not feel personally attacked by this video if you're from the states okay i'm going to be talking about things that i don't like about the united states that does not mean that i hate the united states or that i'm not a patriot what it means is that there are definitely things happening in the united states that i disagree with that make me feel unsafe that make me not want to raise my children there that is what we're going to be talking about here today so please don't don't feel the need to just like be mad at me like in the comments i didn't put these things in place i'm not the reason that these things are the way they are um if you're feeling very angry write to your senator your congressman your governor your whoever and let's get that changed let's vote in elections and get these things changed because i feel like every child should be able to live the kind of life that children in the netherlands do or children in europe do or you know children in other parts of the world do um so that's that's it there you go that's mine that's my disclaimer okay it's gonna make you feel uncomfortable but but it makes me feel uncomfortable too and that's why i left one of the reasons so my children's lives would be a lot different in the united states than in the netherlands because now both of my children are school-aged and they're in elementary school if we lived in the united states they would carry a bulletproof backpack this was shocking for a lot of people that watched a video where i referenced bulletproof backpacks in they are a thing they are real and if i lived in the united states my children would carry them um another thing that children in the united states uh do a lot is these like kind of trainings for um when their school is under attack and it's really hard to imagine my three-year-old my four-year-old my six-year-old having to be aware of like what it would be like to have a gunman in their school um and the lovely thing is that here in the netherlands they don't have to do that and i'm sure in other parts of europe they don't have to do that [Music] if we lived in the united states uh my children would not be allowed to go to the park that is across the street from my house on their own at the age of six and four um or seven and four now in the states you typically don't allow your children to go play outside in the park without you even if it's very close to your house uh for different reasons there are a lot of predators there are a lot of kidnappings there's a lot of bad scary that goes on um but also you as a parent if you allow your children to go outside on their own you could be arrested or accused of neglect your children can be taken away from you whereas here in the netherlands you do allow your children to play outside on their own is it denmark or sweden so one of the nordic countries you can even go into a restaurant and eat your meal and you leave your baby in their stroller sleeping outside and people don't just take your children so in the united states there is a much graver or higher risk of danger it seems um than here children in this neighborhood and in all other neighborhoods of within the netherlands and certainly in other european countries they play outside on their own children are given a much greater degree of independence and freedom from a much younger age here and mine are included in that so if my kid wants to go outside and play in the park for 30 minutes an hour whatever on a weekend with his friends that are also outside unsupervised essentially um they can do that and that is a normal thing here you know they're they're put in situations where they have to be a little bit more independent from an earlier age which is very interesting because they do they they they come back and they'll be like oh there was a conflict here and this is how i sorted it and then and then they feel very confident like their confidence is increased because they were able to do something without having to go to mom or dad or babysitter or whatever also dutch kids also bike to school on their own from quite an early age and that is something that my kids could not experience if they lived in the united states in the netherlands children attend what we would refer to as year round school this does not mean that they go to school 52 weeks a year what this does mean is that they go to school and then they have a break and then they go to school and then they have a break and then they go to school and then they have a break they have many more frequent breaks throughout the year um but this means that then their summer break is much shorter typically around six weeks maybe seven weeks six seven weeks in the summer um and not the whole long summer time like in the us i think it's two and a half or three months that you might even have you have a very long summer break um so because you have this like on off on off schedule that is why it's called year-round school um the other thing that's different is that in in the netherlands and i also know certainly in france let me know if it's in other countries too your children get out of school on wednesdays at noon um i heard also that in the netherlands sometimes they're moving also towards fridays at noon but not i don't think that's happening everywhere yet but basically children go to school for less uh time during the week to give more time for extracurriculars or playing i guess when you're little um but you can go do your sports and your clubs and you can do things during the day um on wednesdays and i guess on fridays now so this is very different in the states you just go eight to four or eight to three or whatever um every single day and that is one of the ways that their life is different here is the different schedules this next one i have listed as the government actually cares about them and i know i know that that's getting very political but i mean we started out with bulletproof backpacks so clearly this is a little bit political um what i mean by the government actually cares about them i guess this is something that bothers me quite a lot in the united states when you have all of these like family values and you know we care about everyone's life and blah blah you have all this like language being used but then there's no action behind it and so here in the netherlands when they say we care about your family so we're going to give children everybody under the age of 18 free health care don't come for me in the comments and say nothing is free it's taxpayer funded yes okay that's fine i get that but what i'm saying is no family out of pocket has to pay anything for their children under 18 to have medical insurance and access to medicine and medical treatment when they need it that is a big deal that is a big deal to me that is really important access to medicine is one of the most important ways in my opinion that you can show that you actually care about someone's life because if you care about their life and they're sick and need treatment for their life it doesn't matter whether or not they have the money to pay for that treatment or if they are popular enough on a gofundme to get treatment or if a tick tock makes them really famous and they can get one no everybody can get that treatment here the government also supports children here by issuing quarterly payments to parents um for each child depending on their age is a different it's a little bit of a different amount but basically for every child in the netherlands regardless of your parents income the government gives you a payment quarterly to help with whatever it is whether it's to pay for extracurricular activities whether it's to buy some clothes whether it's to help with food buying diapers whatever it is you're gonna get a chunk of money and the government doesn't care how you spend it it's just like shows up in your bank account every three months and you can use it for your child that is the way to show that you care about children again in my opinion [Music] the last thing um and again this is also very hot button topic okay but specifically about my daughter uh my daughter who is four and clearly we don't need to be concerned about this at this moment but when and if my daughter ever needs access to an abortion she will be able to have one uh anywhere in the country um without being guilted or shamed that is just a normal medical procedure that somebody has access to here um without getting into the discussion of whether or not it should uh you know i am not judging anybody for wanting to have an abortion or not wanting to have an abortion for being for abortion or against it okay but what i am against is people making decisions that affect my life without my consent my opinion is if you don't want to have an abortion if you don't believe in it don't have one but do not infringe on somebody else's right and that is something that i definitely feel like in the netherlands um my daughter can know and all females can have access to it is just a medical procedure and if it is your decision to have one you can have one it will be covered under your health insurance and there's nothing more to it than that i really struggle with some of the rhetoric that's coming out of the united states um shaming women and making them feel like you know it is not their body it is not their choice you are against vaccine mandates but you are for uh pro-life and all this stuff and um i don't really see how you can be pro-life if you are also not voting to give extra support to people who have children by way of maternity care or free health care or extra food stamps for low-income families payments like what i was mentioning quarterly payments all of these things so i don't see the logic in being so pro-life and yet no not actually pro-living um so my daughter bringing it back her life is very different in the netherlands because we don't we don't care if we live in texas or in you know any other state that's going to be following suit uh now and in the whole of this country she will be able to have any medical treatment that she needs and wants without shame so you guys if that completes today's video those are my five top five ways that their lives are incredibly different uh here in the netherlands or in europe versus what their lives would be like in the united states um i'm curious what your opinions are what your thoughts are on this topic um and if you've moved from a different country or you know if you chose to move from one place to another for the benefit of your children i would be really curious to hear why in the comments below thank you so much for coming over and spending some time with me i really really appreciate it and i look forward to seeing you in the next one [Music] [Music] you
