it was 2015 and I was incredibly pregnant and I had a driving desire to stay at home with my soon Tobe born son and I remember the night that I stumbled upon virtual assistance and I thought oh my goodness this is it this is what I've been looking for a way to flexibly make money working from home so the very next day I walked in a networking meeting yes after just one day of calling myself a virtual assistant I went to my first networking meeting because hey I'm an all-in kind of person and so I showed up and I proudly announced to the networking group that my name was Abby Ashley and I owned a virtual assistant business and the very next question I got was what is a virtual assistant and right away I had to be able to explain the ins and outs of what a virtual assistant could do even years later his virtual assistants is becoming more of a known industry there's still a lot of questions about what a VA really does and how someone can become one so in this video I'm going to break it apart super clearly what a virtual assistant is and how you can start a virtual assistant business with no experience let's jump [Music] in if you haven't met me hi my name is Abby Ashley I your own at home virtual assistant business make sure you subscribe and then you can also click that Bell to be notified every single time I release new content becoming a virtual assistant is actually a lot more simple than you may think in fact there are five main steps that you'll need to take in order to get your virtual assistant business started so I'm going to break down those steps in inside of this video now if you're wanting a stepbystep guide on how to launch a virtual assistant business everything from choosing your services to how to land your first paying clients we have a free challenge coming up that I want to invite you to it's a 3-day to VA challenge happening January 2024 and you can go ahead and register for that at the virtual savvy.com challenge we'd love to see you there for this live free event all right let's go ahead and jump into those five steps that you need to take if you want to start a virtual assistant business with no experience step number one is to truly understand what a virtual assistant is when I was asked in that very first networking meeting what is a virtual assistant I on the spot had to come up with a definition and I'm still amazed to this day what actually came out of my mouth what I said was essentially a virtual assistant is a remote assistant that provides administrative technical or creative services for small business owners I went on to say that essentially anything that you could hire out to an assistant that would come into a physical office if that task could be done remotely it could fall under that virtual assistant umbrella I like to use the term virtual assistant a lot of times interchangeably with freelancer just like a virtual assistant is an umbrella term and there's a lot of services you can do underneath that umbrella freelancer is kind of an umbrella turn as well and so you may be a virtual assistant that specializes in copywriting or you may be a freelancer that specializes in website design but there's a lot of services that can happen underneath that umbrella so again most VA Services really go into either administrative skills like data entry customer service email invoicing technical skills like building websites doing landing pages connecting data on the back end or creative skills these would be services like graphic creation logo creation Pinterest management really more those creative type of services so once you fully understand what a virtual assistant is and how they can help small business owners the next thing you'll need to decide are the services that you're going to offer I would highly suggest starting with the skills that you already have and yes you already have skills to offer small business owners as a virtual assistant let me go ahead and list off the top 30 services that a virtual assistant can offer and see how many of these that you either already know how to do or that you feel like you could fairly quickly learn because you already have some kind of knowledge in that area email management calendar management customer service content creation like writing blog posts email newsletters video editing creating sales funnels running ads like Facebook or Instagram ads graphic design web design creating sales Pages copywriting Services social media management Community Management SEO or search engine optimization Services webinar setup and assistance proof reading data entry transcription billing or invoices internet research responding to blog comments social media graphic creation social media schedule schuling ebook design bookkeeping services affiliate Outreach Management Services branding and Design Services Public Relations Public Relation management or affiliate management don't feel like you have to learn everything that's on this list in fact most vas will not learn everything on this list and that's okay what's important is that you choose the services that are a good fit for you don't underestimate the immense value that can be added to a small business owner if you can take these simple tasks off of a small business owner's plate it really can add much more time and freedom for them to go on and grow the business so really dive in decide what services that you can offer starting with the things that you possibly already know how to do if you're wanting to become a virtual assistant and you have no experience here is the third step you'll need to take which is decide on your rate and packages you need to think very carefully when deciding your starting rate as a virtual assistant remember you can always work with a client if the rate is too high but if if your rate is too low then you really are putting yourself in a corner potentially by working for somebody for a rate that you know you're being undervalued at so that's why I recommend most virtual assistants start their services at about $30 an hour it gives you enough wiggle room to go down maybe to 25 if need be but then you can also build that rate as you gain more experience the going rate for most virtual assistants especially those who are us-based is about 20 to $40 an hour for General Administration skills about 30 to $50 an hour if you have really Advanced skills let's say that you really honed in and specialized processes or youve really honed in and you've built a team and you have lots of experience and success even in general admin or social media management these are all advanced skills and so you can charge a higher rate for those really the guy the limit if you have specialized services so if you really learn and perfect your craft and have a lot of experience behind you I've seen individuals charge $20,000 for a website or $10,000 to ghost write an ebook so there is a lot of opportunity once you continue to Niche down and become an expert but again for most people you're going to start your rate at about $ 25 maybe $30 an hour and then you want to have packages of those hours so that could look like a 10hour package at $30 an hour would be $300 a month reoccurring that you would build a small business owner and then they would have 10 hours to use at their disposal throughout the month for your general admin Services all right you know what a virtual assistant is you've crafted your services you know what you're going offer and you've decided on your hourly rate and packages it's time to start telling people about your business I don't believe it's ever too early to get to the marketing ball rolling in your business it is so important that you start telling people about what you're doing one of my number one tips for finding a client is to tell friends and family now people look at me sometimes and go but Abby my friends and family aren't my ideal client why would I start with them here's the thing it's important that you start telling people about your business it can be a huge confident booster just to finally let the world know what you're doing it can be really scary but once you've overcome that hurdle of telling the first few individuals about what you're doing it gets easier with time that's why I say start with the people who already know and love you even if they may not be small business owners they likely know one small business owner just like you likely know one small business owner right and so just by telling your friends and family you're getting the people who know you love you rooting for you asking you about your business holding you accountable but then you're expanding Network because most people know at least one small business owner that they could potentially refer you to so I highly recommend if you're starting a virtual assistant business that the very first step you take in marketing it is to tell your friends and family now I obviously can't cover all the ins and outs on how to Market your business right here in this video which is why we have this free three-day challenge coming up in this challenge we're going to dive into how to Market your business how to get clients and how to get the confidence to know that you are offering the services that are in high demand so make sure that you go to the virtual savvy.com challenge in order to join for free all right once you have paying clients the fifth and final step that I would highly recommend is to start building a team I have the personal belief that it is never too early to start building a team and to start Outsourcing some of the work that you're doing yourself after all we're in the Outsourcing business we must believe in it right and one of the best way for you to have freedom as a business owner is to make sure that you're not the only person working in your business for me when I first started my business from day one I started Outsourcing some of the work to a subcontractor I'd be getting paid $30 to $40 an hour I'd be paying a subcontractor $10 to $15 an hour and I would be able to keep the difference which meant that I could expand my services to more clients beond the hours that I could practically work this is how I was able to replace my income replace my husband's income and start making those 10K months even as a very new virtual assistant many people ask me how do I find my very first subcontractor and I personally believe that some of the best subcontractors are the people that you already know my very first subcontractor was a friend that I went to college with I knew that she was in a band and that she did graphics for her band so I just said hey you're a stay-at-home mom would you like to create some graphics and make some money on the side and she was thrilled she had no intention of starting her own business so I didn't have to fear her moving on and growing beyond the rate I could pay her she had no interest in doing that she just wanted to make a little bit of side money with a skill that she had while she was taking care of her kids so it was a really great setup where I could pass work on to her she could show it to me I'd pass it on to my clients and get paid for the whole process without actually doing the work myself all right I want to know out of these five steps which is the next action item for you what are you going to take action on and do after this video ends I want to know because you can sit you can consume all of this knowledge but you must start taking action if you really want to see your business take flight maybe it's time to decide on your rate or your services maybe you've just got to get out there and tell someone about your business it's time to get that marketing ball rolling maybe your next step is simply to register for this challenge you know that you need a little bit more information before you're ready to get started whatever your next step is know that I believe in you I have seen virtual assistance be a game Cher for the 100,000 plus individuals who have come into our community who have gone through our courses it can change lives and that's why I'm so passionate about sharing it with you so we'll end with that but just know Savvy I believe in you
