5 Beginner Painting On Clothes MISTAKES to AVOID (save your artwork from cracks)

hello my friends and welcome to art fashion  channel i'm daria the artist who paints on clothes   and in this video i want to  talk about five common mistakes   most of the beginners do when they try to paint  on clothes and here i have my recently painted   denim jacket it's kind of a saying  don't you dare make those mistakes   some of those mistakes i made myself when i  was just starting to paint on clothes a couple   of years ago but i couldn't find anybody who  could explain me what's right and what's wrong   but you have me and i want you to avoid all the  mistakes i want you to start your painting on   clothes journey in the right way so to learn what  to do and what don't keep watching this video   so first mistake and probably the most common  one and the most important one that you use wrong   paints for painting you know i have a couple  of educational videos here on my channel and   in every my video i show paints which i use and  i'm saying i use fabric paints i use special   paints for fabric here are my paints they for  fabric but still i get comments like can i use   acrylics i don't want to spend money on fabric  paints i want to paint just one t-shirt like   there's no difference between acrylics and fabric  paints fabric paints are same like acrylics like   and also i get comments like i used acrylics and  nothing happened like why do you say that you   should buy special fabric paints well i can't  speak for everyone i don't know what kind of   technique do you use what kind of artworks do you  create on your clothes maybe you make something   like this or like this and then of course there  is no difference for you which paints to use   you can use acrylics you can use fabric paints  because you put just one layer of paint but if   you want to create some decent artwork and if  you want to put at least three layers of paint   you should use fabric paints and here is why  because acrylic paints are not flexible enough   and why this flexibility is so important because  you don't paint clothes to hang them on the wall   you paint them to wear them to use them you moving  constantly you take clothes off you wash them you   fold them you wear them again and if your artwork  is not flexible enough it will crack it will crack   differently maybe not immediately but with time  but if you use fabric paints which are flexible   nothing will happen with your artwork and also  acrylics make artwork so stiff stiff and sticky   and it's not it's so uncomfortable to  wear such stiff and sticky artworks   fabric paints are much more softer so if you don't  want to buy fabric paints if you have acrylics   you should buy at least fabric medium and  mix acrylic paints with fabric medium which   will make your acrylics more flexible and  softer but if you want to paint on clothes   all the time and it's very addictive hobby  i recommend you to buy fabric paints and   be happy and second mistake i saw this mistake a  lot especially when there was a trend painting on   jean's pockets trend and such videos were all  over instagram and tick tock and take a look you can decorate some cake with cream like that  but you can't paint on clothes like that you can't   like you can't paint on clothes the same way as  you paint on canvas and this amount of paint like   i can paint five pockets with this amount  of paint and it's not because i don't like   to waste paint and i don't like to waste paint  but because of if you use that amount of paint   for one artwork your artwork will be so stiff  even if you use fabric paints it will be stiff   when you paint on clothes the less paint you use  the better remember the less the better put a bit   paint and blend it out put a bit paint and blend  it out yeah the less paint you use the softer   your artwork will be so please don't do this don't  third mistake is that you're afraid to use water   probably some people think that water will  ruin quality of fabric paints but it's not   true and if you're my old subscriber you know that  sometimes i use watercolor effect technique it's   when i mix fabric paints with a large amount of  water i turn fabric paints into watercolor paints   and i have very old t-shirts with such  watercolor effect and i washed them many   times and nothing happens with them so if  you feel that it's hard for you to paint   sometimes paints need water especially if you  use them a couple of times and they can get dry   so if you feel that it's hard for you to paint  add water because if you don't use enough water   your artwork will be so dry and your  artwork will crack so water don't afraid   and next mistake is you know sometimes i get  messages like can you help me i'm trying to   paint on and they send me photo of some ribbed  t-shirt or some knitted sweater and i'm like what   if you're a beginner don't experiment with fabric  with clothes you paint on if you're a beginner you   should paint on basic clothes which you can paint  on and here are basic clothes which you can paint   on first of all it's a cotton basic t-shirts white  and black color don't paint on colorful clothes   if you're a beginner because it's harder to paint  on colorful clothes it's harder to create artwork   which will stand out from the background so if  you're a beginner paint on white or black clothes   next is sweatshirt and hoodies also white  and black color then denim denim jackets   jeans then bucket hat you can paint on you  can paint on cap you can paint on sweatpants   choose basic clothes basic cotton clothes smooth  sirf smooth fabric don't experiment with clothes   if you're a beginner you know i have video where i  painted on beanies it was very hard but i could do   it because i have an experience but if you don't  have this experience paint on basic cotton clothes   and the last mistake that you choose complicated  design for your first artwork probably you're an   artist and you know how to paint you have  artistic skills and you saw a couple of   hand-painted jackets on pinterest or maybe you saw  hand painting clothes on instagram or maybe you   found my channel and watched a couple of my videos  and you feel inspired and you feel confident and   you want to create something beautiful for  yourself too and you choose for your first   artwork something very complicated with a lot of  details maybe you want to paint some realistic   snake i don't know and there is a big chance that  your first artwork will be a disaster and here is   why when i was starting to paint on clothes i was  a good artist but i remember my first t-shirt even   though i painted something very easy it was so  hard i remember i couldn't understand how to   apply paint how to move my brush it was so new and  so different and i was freaking out to mess it up   and so i recommend you to choose some easy  designs to paint at least your first five   artwork should be something very easy for you to  understand the process for you to understand how   to apply paint how to move a brush you can paint  something in cartoonish style in minimalist style   but something easy choose something easy and then  step by step you can make your artworks harder and   harder and more and more complicated and that was  five mistakes you know painting on clothes is not   that hard but it needs a bit
