hey guys today i'm going to show you five base patterns that changed my life and these five base patterns are wildly useful for every electronic genre across the board including pop music but right before we jump into the patterns i just want to give a quick shout out to my student deleto music for his first label release good job on that man and i'm super excited for all of the rising talent in the edm boot camp community let's get into the patterns all right guys the first piece of music we're going to use to write some of these patterns on it sounds like this clearly here that it's missing base and that's where we're gonna come in clutch and make some base i have a base preset from my preset pack called orbital and it sounds like this and it's one of the 808 presets what i'm going to do is write a dotted eighth note rhythm so a basic rhythm would be one note per quarter bar which sounds like this [Music] on every kick but what makes a dotted rhythm is when we shorten these notes to three of these little tick marks long we're gonna have two of these notes be the same size as each other so three of those tick marks long three tick marks long and then two tick marks long and then we're just going to take this and copy and paste it [Music] through the melody [Music] very popular rhythm used by kygo and avicii so if i unmute the music [Music] it carries a lot of energy and it just pushes forward super nice baseline pattern all right guys for the second pattern we're going to be using a base preset that sounds like this [Music] and this bass preset is called bass shooting star and the way this rhythm goes is very similar to the last one but it's got a little bit more resistance in the beginning of the bars so our last rhythm was three of these tick marks long this one's going to start off on the first two kicks so it's gonna sound like that and then we're going to go into our dotted rhythm [Music] and what i like to do with these is end the loop by doing something different on the fourth bar just to keep things interesting and not so repetitive because this is a more repetitive rhythm with the rest of the music it fills out quite nicely and pushes the beat forward which is something we wanted a baseline all right guys for this third base pattern we're going to use this guitar loop here this guitar loop is from my upcoming guitar pack called guitar suite which is going to have over 300 guitar melodies just like this for electronic and pop producers just like you guys you can try out some of the guitar melodies for free by checking out the link in the description below and if you make something cool with any of those melodies be sure to send it to me on instagram i would love to hear it let's go ahead and make pattern number three this pattern is my absolute go-to for if i ever can't come up with something wildly unique because it always works this is a 1 8 pattern so a 1 8 pattern means that it's going to have 8 notes per one bar [Music] so now if we play everything together [Music] this next pattern is the chill little monster it's just the best pattern to use in nice mellow chill beats and it's a mixture of 1 8 dotted and one fourth dotted so we're going to start out 1 8 [Music] and then we're going to slow it down to 1 4. [Music] and then that's it we're going to take this and move to the next [Music] note now what we do is every other pattern we're going to add a note here so then we're going to take this and continue the melody but every second pattern is going to have that extra note here and so we can't just take this and repeat it so i'm going to take this so now if we play this just feel the chill vibes along with me please [Music] this final rhythm i've aptly named the bubbly dancer and it goes like this so here's the piece of music yeah so let's go ahead and start writing this one [Music] so this is gonna start off on the first kick and it's gonna run the whole length of that kick and then we're gonna break in to a dotted eighth rhythm like that so we're going to go one kick and then dotted eighth rhythm [Music] and we're going to repeat that for bar number two because that's just what this melody does you always have to follow the melody with whatever base patterns you're using [Music] and what you could do with a funky bass line like this is get really creative on these transitions so we could just take this whole beginning melody here or pattern and write it right here [Music] and then get really creative right here [Music] so we have to add some swing to these so i'm going to push this one back a little and this one back there we go and it just makes the bass line come full circle and sound like a bubbly dancer hope you guys enjoyed that video if you'd like to learn more about every element of music production check out my music production course edm boot camp it's not just a course but it's also a community where you can ask me any music production question you would like or send me any of your songs for unlimited track feedback that sounds like something interesting to you check out the link at the top of the description below and i'll see you in there peace [Music] you
