49ers Playbook: 49ers Offense DOMINATES Eagles

hello once again Niner faithful and welcome back to another episode of 49ers Playbook on the channel that's trying to answer the wise and hows of the game this past Sunday the 49ers were able to absolutely dominate the Philadelphia Eagles in Philadelphia and establish themselves as the top dog in the conference there was a ton of film to work through and with the team scoring 42 points and trying not to leave some stuff on The Cutting Room floor we're going to have two review videos this week one on the offense and another on the defense so to make sure to catch the defensive episode like And subscribe as as well as turn your notifications on to be alerted to any video goes live so let's jump to the tape and see just how Brock pie and the 49ers were able to roll six straight touchdown drives you're watching Johnny Dell's football Academy so the team did sputter a little at the start of the game and some of the credit does go to Philadelphia after the first play of the game was a pass that was batted down we're going to try try and get the offense going with a classic West Coast play The Lion plus Dragon which is just west coast terminology for a slant flat on one side with a double slant on the other then this is usually paired with what Kyle calls an over route the Eagles are showing cover three Zone pre- snap different systems might have different triggers here for which side to read but the way I've always known it whichever side hook player takes the over route you'll work that side when Brock pretty takes the snap he sees the mic sit and looks to work the slant flat Reed's the flat player who is taking the flat route and wants to hit Debo on the slant but Darius Slay made a good read in his driving on the throw so he wisely pulls it down to avoid the pick and has to take a sack credit the Eagles there our next Drive gets off to a rough start with a big negative play this is just our wide Zone and there's a couple things happening here first berford runs this two vertical on Jaylen Carter watch how mckivitz Banks and Williams take off here the linemen are taught on these wide zones they want the first three steps to be down the line berford fires out to vertical and isn't able to cut off Carter on a reach block also Ellis number 53 is going to be brendle's man and Jordan Davis gets away with a big time hold on brindle who's unable to get up on Ellis so I really don't want to hear the Eagles fans talk about the [Music] refs so then after the next drive also starts out ugly with a one-ear loss on first down and then a false start it's second and 16 and we'll see the start of a trend for the 49ers in Kyle Shanahan the Eagles are showing cover four pre- snap and we're going to motion Jennings late so he'll have a 4x1 strength you're going to see this a lot in this video the side will often roll coverage to the four strength so with off coverage and you'll see the coverage roll to a cover three zone prie is going to want iuk on a stick route just watch the way pry Works he checks the safety confirms the rotation then he's throwing to auk before the break this is what is so special about pry at his age and the amount of [Music] starts then on third down we get a huge first down that Sparks the [Music] offense the Eagles are showing man pressure pre- snap and we're going to run a couple Choice route Concepts here you have mcaffrey on a choice and then Jennings on a choice clear at the snap the Eagles are backing out into cover three Zone and Pie seeing the mug linebacker fall back to Jenning side Works to CMC but they've got that doubled up and so he works back to Jenning side and makes it all the way to KD that's making something out of a bad situation for a first [Music] down so on first down we come out in 21 personnel with two backs and one tight end the Eagles counter with their base 3 four defense and let's take note they'll come with a fire zone here rushing all five linemen and playing six-man coverage with three deep and three underneath you'll see Debo on this looping motion to a late 4x1 again they're running a spot concept with a swing pass addition and you'll have auk on a stick route again perie sees the off coverage outside and again ball out quick to auk and he's able to get some yards after the catch [Music] we're then able to get another big third down conversion this is the mesh concept and something I talked about in my scouting video on the Eagles that I said picture this concept with Debo running the shallow Crosser well that's exactly what you get here I think Kyle was expecting man here mesh is usually a man beater but the tight Bunch works the rules of the mic in Philadelphia's cover three Zone who has to carry a vertical perie does a great job of looking to auk on the keeper route opening up Debo on the shallow Crosser who gets a big gain on third down we then come out and get a huge gain to George [Music] KD this is great design so the Eagles are again in their base defense and will again be in a fire zone cover three so we're going to make this look like our Speedo concept off play action and so often we use a tight end movement across to block the end man on many of these play action passes like the one pretty got hurt on in the NFC championship game but now we'll also pull Banks and KD will act like he's going to block then release the way the Eagles run their fire zone the hook player is going to match the high Crosser so you get the whole side cleared out and kiddle wide open for a huge [Music] [Music] gain we then get the first score of the game to Brandon auk we come out with a 4x1 and again we motion Deo on this Loop motion into a movement pass and you see the attention the Eagles give to the heavy strength now you have Jennings and iuk on a low high it's first read to Jennings in the flat and then iuk and we get the scoring going the next drive we see again we're using a 4x1 and even though the Eagles are in their base defense you're now seeing a different coverage they're in cover two zone so pretty Works to the swing pass he's so fluid in his read he sees the two high the middle of the field crowded and gets it outside to Debo after a couple plays we come out again 4X one Debo is in this looping motion and again Philadelphia is in their base defense on our again in fire zone 3 we'll fake Debo on a handoff and get a double in concept you'll see how hard Philadelphia attacks the heavy strength again and you get KD wide open [Music] [Music] we then get a good run on an inside Zone how calls this insert but I want to point out Brandon iuk on this run block on blankin ship [Music] we then get a big chunk gain to auk the Eagles aren't in their base defense but they're still coming with a fire zone here this is so good from Brock party we're running a deep Corner route with a deep out route which will put the corner playing a deep third in a vertical stretch we're going Max protect expecting an extra rush and per reads the corner and the anticipation on this throw is just amazing per is pulling the trigger just as auk is in his break on a deep out that's got a lot of guts if he's late this is a pick we then get another chunk play to Debo so I skipped over another play where we hit auk on a short stick route on another 4x1 set now we're going to motion late to another heavy strength 4x1 and hit Debo on a swing pass notice how Philadelphia was slower to attacking the strength as both blankin ship and Ellis are late and we get strength in blocking you're seeing now how Kyle Shanahan has been using these different things to play off of each other and it's causing the defense to slow down we then get the second touchdown of the game so if we think back to the early wide Zone that went for a loss here we're running another wide Zone and check out the job Banks does on jayen Carter and this time Brendle gets up on the linebacker and we get the score coming out of the half we get a huge third down conversion to Jan [Music] [Music] Jennings you're going to see us again in a 4x1 set and now the Eagles are in man coverage so you're seeing now how they're having to adjust the coverage to try and compensate for what Kyle has been doing out of these set Mo maccaffrey late and we're going to have CMC on a choice route and then the same with Jennings where kiddo will work vertical which forces Jennings man to choose outside or inside of the interference which gives Jennings the answer on his choice route Philadelphia was showing pressure and they back out to double mcaffrey that's where py wanted to go initially but he's so smooth and quick on these reads when he sees the linebacker peel out to cover mcaffrey he works back to Jennings he's just on time on this stuff [Music] [Music] then we hit mcaffrey on a rail shot I love that we are actually hitting this play this is a great play we run to bust these matching Zone coverages Kyle calls this a basic concept you're going to have a basic route which is an in route at 12 to 14 yards and pair it with what he calls a rail route which is a deep outside go route starting from the running back position like we saw on the very first play Philadelphia will match these in breakers on the outside so now you use that to isolate mcaffrey on a curl flat player who has to play a three-way go and you get mcaffrey wide open and it's a heck of a throw by pery to CMZ [Music] we then get another touchdown on just another really well-designed [Music] play we again come with late motion to a 4x1 now you're going to get Debo on a reverse so last time we went with a swing pass to Debo towards the four strength now we're coming with the reverse away from it the action will get both linebackers to step up and Brendle and mckivitz will pick them up and you get KD leading around you want to know how confident the players were on this call check when iuk celebrates Debo's was [Music] [Music] [Music] touchdown then back on the next drive this was what I think the moment the 49ers really started to separate this is a third and seven it's 21 to13 Green law had been a Ed and we get this huge third down conversion the Eagles have tried the zones they've tried some man with doubling mcaffrey now they're going to come with cover one with a fiveman rush we're running auk on a tree route which is a 10 yard out route and they'll have Jennings running some interference from maccaffrey on a choice this is what you love about pie he's so decisive and he's so accurate and he's on time he'll actually have mcaffry break open on the interference underneath who would have been able to get a first down but he saw he had auk one-on-one on the outside he drops back looks off the safety and then check out the anticipation again he's in his windup just as auk is making his break and he's going to put this ball where Darius Slay has zero chance of making a play on it for a first down this is that throw they make all the quarterbacks perform at the combine to see if they can make all the throws it's the 10 yard out route from the far has where the ball has to be put on a line has to have some zip because it's the most dangerous throw in football if you're late if you're behind your receiver it's a pick [Music] six we're then able to continue the Run game now even though we're presenting heavy strength again Ellis doesn't commit nearly as quickly as he did early in the game and Brendle is able to get up on him from The End Zone let's appreciate Trent Williams leading out on this run then we get an explosive touchdown to Debo and this is fantastic work by pery to get to his fourth read on the [Music] play this is a play called flag follow it's a bench concept which is a corner route paired with a flat route paired with a levels concept which is a basic route paired with a short in route and the Playbook has this specified as flat route is the number one corner route or flag route is the number two basic route is the number three then short in route as number four and you'll see this is how prie reads it the Eagles are again coming with a fire zone 3 he first looks to the bench concept Works low to high sees there covering it and then he moves to the high low on the mic who's dropped on Bell's basic route and hits Debo underneath who breaks one tackle and is Off to the Races people might look at a play like this and say well he's got Debo as a weapon and Kyle scheming the plays up I can tell you with 100% certainty Debo is his fourth read on this play offense is third and n fourth quarter 28 to 13 and the Eagles are trying to force the issue [Music] they're showing a real soft cover three Zone as no one travels with George KD and you see the off coverage at the snap they're coming with an allout Blitz this is where pie is hot he's got to get this ball out know where his hot route is and he just doesn't panic he's working this to Jennings on a curl route look at the throw p is in his windup before Jennings is sat down for a completion that sets up fourth in [Music] inches we then get the fifth touchdown of the game on another high high level [Music] play it's third and five and the Eagles are showing allout pressure we're running a clearing route outside with a branch route which is an out route at 8 yards this is P's hot he knows it he has to hang in just long enough for Jennings to run his route he's so calm footwork is phenomenal and watch the anticipation again this is something you see each and every game just about every drive he throws it on time perfect ball location he's just money it's not the weapons that creates this the back foot hits and the ball is out then we close out with another touchdown to [Music] Deo this is our tunnel screen and again Philadelphia is in their base defense and are bringing all five we also dress this up with a swing pass look with maccaffrey which people will Overlook but from the all 22 let's look at what this does to the linebacker Ellis great acting job from CMC but who's the last guy who's just a step late to get to Debo Ellis that fake is what made the difference from The End Zone let's appreciate Spencer burford's block on Morrow and auk's effort to run all the way down just to celebrate with Deo it was a dominant win and you can see why I had to split the video this week there was just so much good to show on offense I just couldn't leave these plays on The Cutting Room floor look out for a breakdown of the defense tomorrow so make sure to have your notifications
