hey I'm Jesse behind the camera as well and together we are top jaw we are in Rigo right oh my God that is excellent yes now I'm gonna be careful because if I've missed pronounced this guy's surname I'm actually saying cheese sandwich so Martin's so much yes yes famous Latvian Chef giving us a tour of some of his favorite places in Riga we're going to some proper authentic Latvian dining old school some beautiful pastries some great coffee proper Central Riga Market I'm finishing the day at his restaurant Okay so we've traveled out about 20 minutes outside the city center of Riga what is this place it's called that means grilled meat place on skewers like old old school and really really brutal and super tasty we did ask Martins to take us somewhere authentic don't you think we had 1970s Soviet style authentic in mine but we were so into it and this is this is breakfast for us it's breakfast usually it's actually the summer food yeah it's just components right we have grilled meat and skewers we have some veg well it's just dipping it in and eating it which feels brutal as you say but um cucumber and salt is great [Music] they just do this this is what you have everybody has the same thing there's no other option there's just chicken pork or lamb I like the Simplicity of all that I love the bread like tearing things I'm glad that we ate with our hands as well get ready for some of my best Latvian thank you [Music] [Music] but this is your local spot you visit here a lot yeah yeah this is the question yeah the morning routine yeah with Martin's being Latvia's most well-known Chef I was slightly bemused that he wants to show us Mickler a contemporary baby that's a cinnamon roll yeah but I would soon find out why really quality morning coffee do you mind if I rip mine no I thought you was gonna go like it was at this point that Martin starts to show us who he really was super life and I don't think I was quite ready we need Birds over the years we've heard many a claim for the best crossover but this this almond baby brought tears to my eyes everyone comes here for the almond croissants that is excellent is it's the best animal crossing I've had I think I wasn't filming thank you Alice thank you man have a nice day thank you very much it's fantastic that almond cross on really I'm going to be I'm going to be talking about that for a long time onwards hey to the market [Music] fortunately Martis made sure that we saw the most beautiful parts of Rico oh yeah you can buy golden Rolex original for five euros nice we smoke quickly we quickly we walk quickly we do everything quickly this pace is a makes it pretty hard to film yeah this is one enormous Halls at Riga Central Market this is the meat one if you walk in it's just that real sort of Butchery smell you want to attract yeah so the whole smoke chicken I'd like to point out that martinish doesn't work here foreign you know apple with cheese another really like strong smoke flavor all the way through that chicken this guy apparently is very big is obsessed with hemp seeds so this is a hemp seed pesto it's like a super Garden slightly roasted so they got this Aroma of the roasted kind of a nut and then they just put them in a blender this one to get a bit of apple cider vinegar sugar salt on a tomato goat cheese amazingly where did you get them from me the Cabbage was cool because my really nice sweet and sour butter that's all right this is beetroot and garlic try try me okay how quickly get punched at London okay oh little gifts look at that small gift yeah absolute frisbee of a cookie okay let's go here oh crisis off again it's just gonna film their backs for a little bit longer the thing I like most is your attitude with just picking stuff up [Music] the small restaurant the youngsters was still shining eyes they still believe in culinary future so let's go see them [Music] as kind of a gift that cookie was it wouldn't fit in any pocket carrying it was annoying but I didn't want my change to see me oh no oh I was trying to get rid of it right where are we okay we've come to an industrial part of regret hey what happens to these industrial areas just outside of town young people will set up something like this with neon light in the window this is run by a couple of young guys they do pizza flatbreads small plates [Music] come in don't freeze come in come in so at child and make their own kombucha so we have an apple and Quince one here that's good very sweet very sweet great I mean here is their black currant one also good also sweet here comes the first starter it's the gray piece falafels gray pea big it loud at the end apparently eat them on the Christmas Eve Apple Quince and plum sauce simple warming it's nice dumplings pickled cabbage but it's good and they do want a sauce to spring onion sauce because that's the only green vegetable they can get over it I don't know which to go for on a trout or the pork I suggest better drought because uh it's uh really traditional yeah yeah it's more unique okay we go for trout and then the potato pizza smoked trout with their veg horseradish cream oh it's a beautiful shot thank you again Nordic flavors I'd like to smoke drought thank you we won't tell anyone yeah yeah potato pizza with the pork belly with uh potatoes cheddar cheese with hot cheese some greens tomato yellow sauce as you work your way from the slice there's different flavors yeah they should move to my neighborhood and here we have uh one dessert which we change seasonally so this is like a contemporary abstract spin on a baked apple what's good yeah well easy too much kombucha for you study some great spots you're taking us to thank you and ones that we wouldn't necessarily have well we definitely wouldn't have gone to so next up we're going to your restaurant yeah but I will not work tonight okay no but you just don't so you after that please message me if there is any mistake okay okay I'll poet I mean it is a very luxurious five-star hotel and we're very lucky to be staying here in one of the nicest rooms come on jump in huh great [Music] foreign right happens on top jaw and you know what we do we just load it with more please do we do we rest do we just hang out and take it take five nope two margaritas with black volcanic salt for Iceland oh yeah time has come for us to visit I mean this is like the rest will be most excited about in this trip this is called The Three Chefs this is Martin's restaurant oh wow it's been open 12 years and for Riga that is a very long time this is a Heritage Restaurant six course tasting menu is what they're known for so now time for this guy to squirt all over the table it's a good time to be wearing white trousers [Laughter] it's fun having spent the whole day with you know like when you own the restaurant you're just seeing his personality through do you know it doesn't surprise me it's like oh yeah I get it the brown is a beer dark beer reduction the green is a basil pesto hell yeah we have the Jerusalem artichoke about four ways of it I'll check crisps I'll check foam artichoke um I don't know how you say it's like being um shredded right this is the second course we've got some mushroom tea this mushroom tea has about 40 ingredients in it [Music] that is great you would not expect that to say for that venison with a lindenberry sauce kale sauteed with garlic a standout dish on the moon oh yeah look at that yeah French dessert wine agent Oak barrels 18 months gorgeous nutty orange zest White Blossom it's a push pair pear sorbet Honey Gel it's one of those sort of desserts that isn't too deserted you know what I mean you get Savory to Sweet and it's just just over that way not fully in dessert land you're right I don't know oh yeah that's always incredible that was stupendous you can heavy recommend sit in the bar you know when you get to restaurants they go oh we've only got a city at the bar that's the best beer open kitchen great atmosphere Burger food and everything makes sense after spending your day with my change today like it's a bit eccentric it's very Latvian very local produce seasonal produce bye Brianna bye see ya foreign [Music] Riga has two hearts it has the old town and it has this District which people call the silent Center there's about a 500 meter Square where all the best restaurants are and one of those is Tails we did walk past it earlier we look today going oh my God that place looks amazing then we saw the name we're like we're going there yeah nice Tails check the logo as well work of art wow we're a minus two in this refrigerator in the middle of Latvia Riga this is fish we've got two year old fishes here they've been hanging out I'm looking forward to seeing how does it tastes you know I'm sort of done with how it smells yep you can't see it but there's an invisible cable that's going straight from bread to my nose which I'm getting a direct hit it smells that good it's got the Nori seaweed in there giving it that this is their dry aged plate so a lot of the fish that we saw in that dry aging fridge this is like a little array of it it's a dry aged tuna and dry Edge wrap three to four weeks marinated in smoked soy Costco oh my God is absolutely Sublime okay so this is the seafood tartar it's their ostrich dish tuna Ceviche that is so good Jesse mates honestly at this stage we genuinely thought we were done but oh no those were just the starters the salmon and crayfish kebabs it tasted so good I would have lick that off the floor again fantastic okay the risotto team lovely saltiness for the mussels great text from the prawns on rice this is the sea urchin creme brulee oh come on come on is there chocolate mousse with truffles macaron everything is made here go on getting there son does it be Valentine's Day [Music] boom that food was super memorable Baltic fish served in there very contemporary very beautiful very elegant way all right Legend also big on his wine come around the corner we're still in the silent Center This Heart of Riga in amongst all the fine dining restaurants we have food Burger this is a burger place from The Catch family The Catch family are this collection of restaurants catch snatch very well known in Riga very high end and this place was their bit of fun their burger joint but they want to make it elevated so they have made burgers they're directly pair with Champagnes of course okay good job the Ferguson here small go away oh my God that secret sauce mate watching that double smash Patty the double cheese lettuce gherkins Secret Sauce that we already know is a holy that was good and now to another Village because we're in that fine dining part of Rico we're gonna match our Burger some champagne and it goes well a sign above you says well [Music] last minute like you're about to get blast in space to go in like shag alien or something like it'd be a double Smash burger with fries secret sauce or champagne well please no more food if this place goes oh we're a cocktail bar but we also do hot dogs otherwise Obviously good I thought burgers and champagne might go well together and um news just in they do [Music] capping off the night at gimlet Nordic bar this is a little sort of subterranean cocktail bar run by two friends called ilmars and Edgars they're bringing it back to Nordic flavors what latvians and the nordics Really Love and guys fortunately no food just an overwhelming number of cocktails on a Wednesday Quince gimlets there's a joke and the Quinn Squad skull oh Herbie and delicious very refreshing that's good you see Anna there she recently moved from war tour in Ukraine ill Mars thankful that he took her on says that she's the best mixologist he's ever worked with so Anna has made us a lovely lindenberry Paloma it's a Nordic Twist on the classic Paloma you guys all know what classic primer is Right cheers skull and the lesbians [Music] to a joy [Music] yeah man silky really silky right she got lindenberry a fused gin Linda Berry cordial Campari and Driver move sweet driver we sincerely intended to take it easy this evening Anna however had other ideas I don't know exactly is in this but Anna says if you like it you don't have to know and I respect that but this is a mushroom old-fashioned with an old mushrooms but I love mushrooms I'm allergic to mushrooms emotionally I went with a big sip this is a small sip sort of drink [Music] yeah thank you we've been in this bar with ilmars hanging out drinking no Godly amount of cocktails I can't be to have an experienced to have a drink that I've never had before they're trying something new with flavors and I love it oh a rose yeah someone died brilliant oh almost missed this place walk us straight past it but I think down this little candle lit Alleyway is no Saints a hidden bar that we're trying to unhide it's a team of a bar offering you a shot when you arrive and do on with you that my friends is a bar very much worth your time so these are our Riga friends this is Vlad and this is Laura and they've come to me us for a little cocktail cheers lingenberry infused Bombay Sapphire you have Martini rubico Martini bitters um someone else and someone else this is an apple cooler that I have drunk half of bourbon apple juice Sammy on Blanc coriander and cinnamon and I'm really into it with my metal straw [Music] I've probably read Roy which is copper dog with a whiskey from Scotland and uh you're having the Cherry Manhattan that I had earlier so when you're in Vega and you come to no states where you're not allowed to talk about religion or politics okay you're going to see here you can just get a cookie up a storm and by that I mean make it a very mean cocktail like I said I know yeah most definitely yeah how was work today yeah I've just drank about a thousand beers three stiffies and ate about 20 000 calories worth of delicious food yes I get home I'm like get ready for bed the reason that the light switches are so high is because Latvian women are the tallest in the world and that is a fact that's not one that's not why they're high
