hi how's it going it's me Gabi from gonaturalenglish.com bringing you 40 must know phrases for intermediate to advanced English speakers you know a lot of these phrases are variations on more basic textbook classic phrases that you may already know such as how are you as you notice in the beginning I didn't ask you today how are you I asked you how is it going but I didn't say it like that I said how's it going a lot of these phrases look different than they are pronounced and that is also what we're practicing today your beautiful American accent to improve your English pronunciation so how is it going this is a very typical greeting now how are you isn't incorrect it's just that we don't always ask how are you there are many different variations it's kind of like when I was learning Spanish in the classroom my teacher told me to ask como estas but not all native Spanish speakers always ask como estas all the time there are lots of different variations que tal Caden Wavell ends many others maybe if you speak Spanish you could add some more in the comments to help me learn more and so in English we don't always answer I'm fine thanks and you there's a lot of different responses for more advanced English so today our goal is to increase your fluency by speaking more naturally like a native English speaker with some variations on these basic phrases first I'm going to share ten different ways for you to greet people then ten different ways for you to respond then different ways for you to express your opinion ways for you to express an invitation and ways for you to thank someone you may learn some new phrases and I'm going to encourage you to practice them in the comments so let's jump in and I also am going to share with you at the end of this lesson so stick around I'm going to share how you can practice all of these phrases and much more with an expert native tutor online and get 100 percent cashback refund on your tuition this is an awesome opportunity so stick around so I can explain how you can benefit from this offer all right let's go first one as we've just learned is how's it going repeat after me how's it going how's it going some native speakers will just shorten this to how's it especially if you go to Hawaii did I ever tell you that I lived in Hawaii for several years when I was growing up when I was an adolescent that means between a child and a teenager anyway I was in Hawaii for several years and a lot of people say how's it to greet each other how's everything how's everything how are you doing so we don't say how are you doing we say how are you doing how you doing pay attention to the rhythm of the phrase here English is like music it's like a drumbeat how you're doing all right you can repeat these phrases after me again to practice your American English accents how are things how are things how are things how have you been how have you been becomes how have you been how have you been I am indicating stressed here with my hands so we have to make the stressed syllable a little longer and a little harder a little bit higher how you doing what are you up to what are you up to what are you up to or what have you been up to what have you been up to this is a really awesome phrasal verb that native English speakers often use and I made a whole video all about this phrase what are you up to so I'm going to link to it in the description below or up there so that you could watch the entire lesson to understand more about this specific greeting what is happening what's happening what's happening what's happening what is going on what's going on what's going on what is up what's up now as always be careful with the tone in your voice because if you have a lowering intonation such as what's up it could sound like you're very upset so we want to keep it light and have a rising intonation what's up now usually WH questions have a falling intonation however for greetings when we want to show our enthusiasm and smile we want to have a light and kind of rising intonation what's up how are you how's it going what's new what's up what are you up to okay I think you can hear how my voice is kind of lights and rising and we don't want to say what are you up to what's going on it just doesn't sound very happy so when you greet people you generally want to sound happy so just a quick note there now let's talk about how to respond most of these responses we can use in response to any of these greetings however some of them we have to kind of follow the greeting so let me explain many English textbooks teach us to say I'm fine thank you and you but native English speakers rarely say this it's not that we never say it but it's quite rare so instead of saying I'm fine you could say I'm great I'm super I'm fantastic I'm awesome any kind of adjectives that you would like but those are some of the most common you could say I'm doing well or I'm doing well some native English speakers say I'm doing good it's not grammatically correct but it's very common so it's worth mentioning here I'm doing good or you could simply say good you could also say I'm well or things are just fine can't complain never been better I have never been better is the complete sentence but you'll notice that we often cut words off completely never been better or I have never been better things have been good or life has been good or work has been good everything is going great everything is coming along just fine everything's coming along just fine could be better pretty good there are a lot of different ways to respond to the how are you question you might hear people use slang like peachy keen or hunky-dory but these are less commonly used and they're just for fun if someone asks you what's up you might respond with not much not much in your class your teacher might have told you to express your opinion by saying I think or in my opinion and these are fine but they're not really natural sounding there's a lot of other phrases that are better possibilities so how about saying from my point of view and I'll just finish the sentence here it for an example from my point of view that's great from my point of view chocolate is better than vanilla in my mind chocolate is better than vanilla in my mind pizza is the best option the way I see it the way I see it coffee is a good choice it seems to me that it seems to me that we should take a break I figure now when people speak quickly this can sound a little different I figure I figure I figure we should take a break I figure we should study harder I suppose now you can use this to agree I suppose or I suppose so or you can use it to express your opinion I suppose we should take a break and now pay attention to the pronunciation it's not I suppose it's I suppose I suppose that's okay it goes without saying that it goes without saying that you should learn English it goes without saying that you're doing a great job today so similar to obviously obviously we should practice English and speak every day if you want to express your doubts about your opinion or soften your opinion a little bit you could use one of the two following phrases I could be wrong but I think we should practice English every day correct me if I'm wrong but I think we should practice English every day where any of these phrases for expressing your opinion new to you could you practice expressing your opinion with one of these in the comments let's practice together now when you're making new friends who speak English I want to invite them to do something socially we don't always say I want to invite you to do something there are many other ways to invite someone so let's try them out do you want to for example do you want to have a cup of coffee do you wanna do you wanna what do you like to have a cup of coffee would you like to have a cup of coffee would you like to have a cup of coffee how about we have a cup of coffee how about we have a cup of coffee why don't we have a cup of coffee why don't we have a cup of coffee really fast now repeat after me why don't we have a cup of coffee probably because I had some coffee I'm speaking that quickly let's grab a cup of coffee or let's grab a bite to eat let's grab a cup of coffee let's grab a bite to eat notice that we say some words stronger which are the key words let's grab a cup coffee let's grab a cup of coffee other words which we call function words like uh or of are really really small let's grab a cup of coffee so we make them very very small but they are there saying thank you is so important and other people really appreciate it but we don't always just say thanks or thank you we have other phrases for that like I appreciate it or I appreciate you I appreciate it I appreciate it or that's much appreciated that's much appreciated or much appreciated I'm so grateful I'm so grateful I'm so grateful you can combine this with thank you and it really emphasizes your thankfulness I'm so grateful Thanks you're the best you're the best that's so kind of you that's so kind of you or if you're in the southern United States you might hear that's mighty kind that's mighty kind of you or I owe you one I owe you one I owe you one when we're speaking quickly we don't usually say you we say yeah you probably noticed that I owe you one well there are many many phrases that intermediate and advanced English speakers should know but those are 40 of the most practical and useful ones that I really wanted to share with you today but now I think it's time for you to consider practicing with a special opportunity lingo des is offering a sprint where you can study English online with an expert native speaker teacher for three months and you have the chance to get up to 100 percent of your tuition refunded cash back it's an awesome opportunity if you do the full sprints which is a daily lesson for 30 days each month for three months you can get 100 percent cash back if you attend all the agreed-upon lessons if that's a little bit too much for your schedule you could sign up for the half sprint which is 15 lessons per month for three months and you get 50% of your tuition refund it if you attend all of your agreed-upon lessons over 30,000 language learners have benefited from lingo 'das sprints and marathon programs over the last few years so it's an awesome opportunity and you can see how other language learners have improved and benefited from this opportunity if you check out their Instagram profile at Ling gota official now I've personally taken lingo to classes in Spanish and I've learned some new phrases and some ways that native speakers really speak that were different than my textbook you know little things about the way that people speak like fillers I could say place to kind of fill the space in my Spanish or similarly with English you might say well and those are little things that you don't always learn from a textbook so it's really great if you can learn from a real native English speaker now about the lingo de sprints the deadline to sign up is June 15th so make sure that you don't miss it and I recommend signing up now or sooner than the deadline because there are limited spots available with lingo two lessons the average class size is just three students so that means more talking time more practice time for you the class times are convenient to your schedule and for example I took a lesson on Sunday morning and you can find lessons that work for your schedule and your life you're learning 100% online from home from your office or wherever is convenient and safe for you this summer learning languages is going to be a little bit different I think the best way is to learn online and to take advantage of the Sprint format for accountability there are structured learning materials in every lesson so you're not just sitting around and wondering what the point of the lesson is and if you're a beginner intermediate or advanced english learner they have a class for you in fact if you're interested in learning other languages like Spanish German or French there's a sprint for you as well and for English learners you can stick with regular conversational English or business English specifically for you if you're learning English to advance in your career to register there is a forty nine euro deposit but this is refunded if you do attend all of your agreed-upon classes and if you sign up right now using the code in the description you can say if 10 euros right away so it's only thirty nine euros to sign up and hold your spots I recommend that if you want to improve your language skills this summer that you try out the lingo to sprint there's really not much to lose because if you do attend your agreed-upon classes you get a refund and if you don't attend all of your classes well you just pay the agreed upon amount so you know what you're getting into it's simple there's no trick if you have any questions let me know in the comments but I recommend that you try it now I want to share more advanced phrases with you for your English speaking for your English fluency right up here I want you to click on this lesson next so that you can advance your English even more with native English phrases full phrases for advanced English learning that will really help your fluency thanks so much for watching I'll see you there
