all right so today we're looking at the big fish 105 v2 and everything about the 105 is pretty much the same with the v2 other than the seat so today we're going to be looking at adding the bixby j2 motor to the pod on the big fish using the diy pod mount for the j2 motor and you can see it's a little more compact than the j1 and it's got your four mounting places so we'll start with what we need just a drill with a 3 16 drill bit i've got an electric screwdriver just to make it a little easier for you know putting the bolt in and then we've got just a just a hand screwdriver so let's take a look at how we're gonna mount this particular diy pod mount um to the pot of this this big fish so i like working with the pods on all the feel free kayaks and of course that goes into the three waters big fish kayaks so with this it's super simple you just unlatch the two latches on the side you can lift it up some and then you've got these handles that you're just gonna squeeze in just a little bit and it pulls that entire pod out and as you can see it's one unit which is going to make it extremely easy for us to mount let's see let me move this around here so it's going to make it extremely easy for us to mount this particular diy pod mount um you know directly to the bottom here and let's see if i can move the camera well actually you can see it so here's the entire um pod area on the big fish so it's a it's a big area and if we look at the j2 motor you can see that it fits perfectly down in there you will have to use whenever you get your bixby unit you will have to use the reduced shroud and you will have to use the original um weed guard there they do have a let's see i don't have one handy but they do have a weed guard that protects this area a little more but it's too wide to fit into that pod mount so you will have to use um the reduced shroud with the the regular guard there but that's no worries i mean i've used it a lot of times and both of them work really well so let's go to the bottom of the kayak and i'll show you how i kind of matched up where i wanted to mount the pod adapter to the bottom of the pod all right now from here we're looking at the bottom of the pod and actually you can see that i've already drilled holes uh into the bottom of mine when i was doing you know testing and of course putting it putting it all on there for the first time but if i get let's see let me get this particular piece sorry um what i did is i took the i guess the um the guard for the bixby unit and i fit it up underneath here and just made sure everything was was level um or centered uh perhaps centered right here and then of course i went back just a tiny bit you've got a groove right here that allows um you know your your cord and your transducer cord and anything like that three waters made it's kind of a slot in there that it's it's big enough that you can put you know your your transducer cords and all of that so with the bixby unit you are gonna have a cord that's gonna go up there um you know from the the motor so like i said what i did here is i took this centered it up and then i drilled in one of those back holes and that gives you a starting point and from there you can take this back out and then we're going to go back up to the top and then i'll show you how you know i did the rest from there but this is really the best way to kind of fit this in here you know and it's it's going to be pretty much at the front of this pod all right now that we're back up here let's take this pod back out let's see for me to make this a little easier i'm going to flip this top all right so what i did from here you're gonna get these small blocks or one small block that goes on the inside of the pod so from there what i'm going to do is use that because of course your you may not get a drill bit into this portion you know because you've got that guard there all right so essentially what i do from here and as i've mentioned in some of my other videos you're gonna see that one side of this is a little closer to the edge than the other so that's the part that's gonna be the front um so from there i just take a bolt and then put one of these bolts in that spot that we drilled and i use an electric screwdriver right here because it makes it go a lot faster and this is just to hold everything in place so that you can start drilling more holes so once you have one in you're going to center it up and you can see there's a line where these this pod was joined together um or at least that you know where that seam is so once you have that one all the way in there um and of course i could have drilled that or screwed that in just a little bit more but once that's there i usually do it in a cross pattern so start with that one then i take my drill and then drill another hole and then i will do this after every single one i will screw down one of these bolts i'll do that for every single one all right so you've got it crossed there and then i'll drill another hole put that one in and then of course you can drill your last one so at this point this isn't going to stay like this this goes on the inside but this is how i've done it on all of my pot adapters and the different pods that i've i've used on the feel free three waters and you know some other kayaks so from here we'll take this back out and then the rest of this is extremely simple all right so we're gonna put the pod back in there and let me see if i can move my camera around to show you a little bit more of what i'm doing in here all right so you can see there's your four holes you're gonna have this piece that's going it's basically just a backing plate let me screw that in there a little bit more then i use my electric screwdriver to to put it in even more the one thing about the big fish pod and well let me go over two things here so the big fish pod is you know extremely large it's got plenty of room for you to store you know baits you know other equipment i mean it's got more than enough room in there and what i do to all of my pods i will actually use some type of silicone i actually use lexel heat it up just a little bit you know with like a blow dryer or something just to get it warm it comes out of the tube a little easier and i put it around the bottoms of or around the the bolts around the screws before i put this plate down and that keeps water from you know splashing back in here but from there we can take this out and we're going to flip it over and now you can see we've got all four of those coming up and then we'll do the rest all right so now this is the next piece that's going to go on and i just hold my hand on the back side just so i don't push the screws back out and then i match this up and you can also put silicone you know around the bottom of this one i will do that eventually but for uh video sake i'm just gonna you know put it on there for right now and then here's your next piece this is essentially where the j2 bixby is going to mount so when you're ready to get to the water actually i keep this connected at all times since the pod comes out but it just matches up and bixby sends you four screws that go into there so set that back aside let me put this in and as you can see everything goes in like i said extremely extremely simple so now that that's there we can start these lock course one thing i forgot to mention you're gonna have to have a uh an adjustable wrench or just other some other type of wrench or or a socket to tighten these lock nuts down so i'll put this last one on tighten them down and then i'll show you the last few steps for getting that bixby motor mounted onto the to the bottom of this pod all right i'm done bolting that on now we're going to take the j2 motor and start fitting that on this particular mount like i said you've got four screws and nuts that go on here so i'm just going to put all four of them in and i normally bring a multi-tool with me actually two different things i'll show them to you i'll bring let's see this gerber multi-tool and then i have well i can't find the other one but i have a bike tool that i bring with me here it is that way i can easily you know if i have to take any of these off or work on anything else gerber tool and of course this crank um bike tool and it pretty much fits everything that i would need on a kayak of course both of these have phillips head flat heads um all of these bolts here and all of these screws are phillips head screws and then of course you know these nuts you could just hold it down and you know tighten it with that side or take it off or you know whatever you need to do but those are the two tools that i normally bring with me and so all right so that is your end result you've got your cord that's going to go up to your uh battery and as i mentioned before you've got a groove in the bottom or i guess in the front of the kayak here where you could route your transducer cable or in this case you're going to route your power cable um and it's just going to fit down in here just like that you can adjust the the cable so it's right in the center and then all you do is push down and then let's see we're going to lock it in place both sides of course you're not going anywhere so with this you can either route this cable with your battery up front and i'll show you the battery so here's the battery you can either you know try to route it underneath here like that um of course you're gonna have have to have room which that's that's more than enough room to mount that on that side or with the extension cable that bixby has you can connect that and route it back underneath your seat back to the back tank well area or as i mentioned you just keep it up front um i did try putting the battery in here and it's just slightly larger than the inside of this so you won't actually be able to fit this battery um inside you know the the pod area but that that's not a not a deal breaker um i wouldn't necessarily put it in there anyway because then the pod gets a little heavier than you know you may want it to be really i think this is your best area up front especially if you have a tank well that's kind of loaded down with you know rods uh tackle storage you know cooler whatever that way you've got a little more weight up here and you know you're probably gonna have the majority of weight in your bat in the back of your kayak anyway um so let's go underneath the kayak and i'll just show you what it looks like underneath there show you how far it sticks out and everything all right and there it is you can see you could probably go pretty shallow that only sticks out really the length or or the width of that bixby unit itself and it's pretty much streamlined there you can see it's at a good angle it's the the jet portion or at least the prop portion is gonna be forcing water downward some it's not gonna be forcing it up to the you know to the bottom of your hall so that's it and of course you've got this guard here that's going to protect your motor of course this this particular um piece here is made to replace so if this ever breaks off or if you hit something and you know it's made to absorb the impact rather than the motor actually actually absorbing it so yeah that's it for the diy pod adapter for the j2 motor from bixby and this is going to be the same setup on the big fish 105 and the big fish 120. if you have any questions or comments just leave them down in the comment section and i'll try to get back with you alright thank you
