(358) Epic Sparrows Monstrum XXL Kit Review - Awesome!

hello again it's lock loop and in front of us we've got a very special item actually this is a brand new sealed in the bag Spyros monstrum XXL I'm pretty sure it's the biggest kit they do and it sells for a I think pretty reasonable 139 canadian dollars somewhere about I go check out the website and that equals about 81 pounds I think and when you see inside I think you'll agree that that is real bargain it really is okay so when I've never actually seen inside this little tear there so first thing is is it comes with an excellent Sparrow sticker and also one of their excellent cases now I you know don't make a secret that's I really really like sparrows equipment and I really like their cases in fact I use a number of their cases to store my picks what's good about them is they're made of a tough nylon like material I like this particular do wanna call it camouflage patterns I don't know I like this one that they use in the monstrance and if you look carefully can see double stitching where the seams are I mean it's it's quite rugged some zip let see what gets inside the first time I've looked inside so you'll see exactly what I'm seeing and I'm gonna cut away in a minute now going to get all the picks out put them in order and Lord knows I wouldn't be able to tell you the names of absolutely but I think give it a go wow that's a whole lot of picks and tension tools well this is a a a pretty hefty kit for sure okay right got a cutaway and let's have a look at the pics and rates first okay so all of the sort of hooks are in front of us and I might get this wrong but I'm gonna try and name them all the first thing to say is that these are all with their sort of third plastic handles I find it very comfortable all in 25 thousandths very high quality Sparrow's stainless steel and if you look the finish on the monstrum set is beautifully tumbled that means very round to service grab a couple at random have a look at them there's a couple of marks on this but the edges are very smooth this is clearly a kit which has just been finished a little highest spec very very smooth edges you can see they're very very nice I think apart from maybe just trimming this this handle down on some of these hooks with a razor blade just taking them down a little bit they're ready to go out the pack I would say so and also I'd say you get such a range here just I can't think of anything particularly missing I mean we all have our favorites is all bits and bobs which you would say Oh on one of those or one of those is a good idea but really I mean I use like the sparrows short hook he you know about sixty percent at the time so frankly the rest is just for those other applications where you just need something else so I think this is a full dent the half Glide the high HD which is similar similar but not quite the same as a gem we have a low HD which I think like a HDC might stand for half diamond you saw to see the that that angle there I think this one's called the matador which is similar to a house like a curvier high HD really so higher reach not almost of DeForest diamond dance in all in a way there we have the these mix up all the time I believe this is the Tron very good like a short hook with a slight recess at the tip so it's a bit like a short hook euro hook slightly wider ball end pick very good actually becoming very popular this one then I think we've got the tiller another popular sort of medium hook what got to be sweep on it then we've got the lunatic I've never seen one of these before and it's like the the most offset half diamond at Sephora startled I've ever seen it really is extreme but if you got the room in the key way I can imagine that's quite effective then got the full glide which is just slightly more curved than the half globe you saw earlier they've got a steep hook and a reach these basically are just deep hooks nothing wrong with that at all and I think there might be a small just small cutouts on the reach they're just so light it good placement on a pin then we got a small diamond in an offset hybrid which is a bit look at the forest diamond I think a very shallow one and last but definitely not least because these are really really good picks the short hook and the euro hook very very good I mean seriously I can't think of anything else that is really missing here you're gonna find a place for these and your kit for short right in terms of all your rakes I think I've got pretty much all the bases covered so really I as far as rakes are concerned these these are the at least the four which I would recommend sort of everybody gets so you got a bow guitar a worm rake which is similar to the books are in frequency if I line them up but it's a shallower ripple so you can get it in two types of key ways a snake rake one of my favorites I have to say the sparrow snake rate isn't my absolute favorite snake I think some other manufacturers do make slightly better ones but this isn't a bad one and a City rate which is excellent and you can see how well tumbled this is is a tiny tiny amount of sort of roughness in the in the valleys there but it's definitely been tumbled and polished up so I mean it's ready to go I wouldn't do any more work to it that's for sure you also have a sort of a double peak Bogota Spurs do a reflection set where you have all of these which is offset slightly as well but realistically this is going to get you into a lot key ways and look an octorok very good on wide key weight wide open key ways I find that honestly though I think you're better off just using the worm I mean it's some people love the operate I'm not a big fan and by love the sparrows worm but they are different frequencies so we will get you in different locks so just bear that in mind although thickness of this means you limited a tiny bit though so that's all I mean an amazing selection up picks for sure I mean just just just look at how many of these you get because they're 25 thousands and the made with such high-grade steel they're gonna last you unless you're ridiculously rough with them right enough about the picks let's have a look at the tension tools I'll be back in a second and here we are you must have been impressed with the 21 picks that you get and really I am impressed but you get 22 tension tools and all sorts of varieties frankly I just can't see you again what more we want with the attention swords mean it's always gonna be a lock where you need a tension tool which you just don't having your kit that lord knows you know you're gonna get into nearly every lock you can find do you lose tension them with what you've got in here we've got some very very long ones a useful actually it's a guessing the lock if you can put the whole finger up on these they're they're epically long I don't never need one that long myself but you know I do appreciate a longer tend to offshore the they're coming two varieties three thicknesses thanks as you can see they're thin medium and thick in terms of width the walls were twisting so these are the same as the ones without just that when you've got it in a lock this won't flex very much when you put pressure on it while the one with a twist will so if you wanted to be a bit lighter with your tension sometimes the ones with a little twist in help you to dial in your um your tension personally I prefer them without a twist but I know people who do like your twist attention tool you've got the choice for sure there then you've got sort of similar we've got some same thing sort of thickness gradients again as you can see they're got the twisted and the non twisted L wrenches then you've got some Zed wrenches and again will you believe twisted and non twister senses and non twisted in the three things is if you wanted to even take this end and file them down to I don't know three or four millimeters at the end and then use has a top of the key weight all just like these ones but I'll show you the other twisted top the key weight tension tools as well see these are a bit longer but again they've got a twisted Center to just help with that tensioning if you like that softer more flexible tension and then you get all the top of the key way tension tools here all the pry bars and you know these are really really great as well just really good tools and nothing really much for today but and there's a couple of thicknesses there I believe that they go up to 40,000 and of an inch and this is great isn't it I mean if you wanted to expand this kit I mean you really really have to know we're doing with your locks but you could get a few the 15,000 and 20,000 Spicks and you probably get the heavy bars as well sort of thicker I think 50 thousandths pry bars that's Paris offer as well but well knows you could get you know 21 picks and 22 tension tools as well as this awesome case which to carry them all end I think you're doing all right for yourself and this will keep you busy for a long time 480 pounds I can't think of much out there which offers the same quality and variety for that money I mean there are some good kits out there the south or C 2010 is a good budget kit but it's not quite the same strength the stainless steel and doesn't come with as many tension tools or indeed a good a case yeah I think this monstrum kit it's a it's a really really really nice thing to own and yeah I'd recommend it I really would I think it's a great kit not much I can see that you you couldn't use either nor much filler alright I hope you found that interesting I've really
