with the muscle cars what moves you the look the rumble the attitude [Music] if you're like me you'll pick all the above Chevy guys come on in and get some brothers your cars were badass two men I get inspired by those cars along with Dodge and AMC the cars are classic you guys that are watching this video love and enjoy old-school muscle no matter what brand it is and I do also and I respect and enjoy these race events from the past and present which brings me to my Ford Maverick that I installed this 99 302 Ford Explorer engine I could have put the car up situation in here and keep it moving but it's not about this car alright here's the video gravy I posted a picture up on my YouTube community about what would you like to see in your engine bay would you like to see a 351 Lightning setup EFI or would you like an old-school carb Cobra setup in your engine bay so you guys have spoken you said that you rather see a Cobra setup inside your engine bay may I'm putting it in whatever car did I choose but that's what you guys want to see now we're fast-forwarding now I have a 302 and a 351 the 351 is the gravy that everybody is going to choose anyway I know this but I'm going to need heads so I have to take my behind to the junkyard and pick up a set of heads you know for my Explorer or something like that that's a good starting point because I cannot afford the nice shiny SuperDuper deluxe heads that costs around $1000 or 800 bucks all right it's pick your poison time which one would you choose 302 or 350 one with a nice decent budget not $700 like it once was because you got to be realistic so what would you guys pick compression gave it a fully forged bottom end a more aggressive streetable roller camshaft aluminum heads along with the dual plane intake now all this plus a lot more equals a 408 cubic inch Cleveland [Music] 500 pounds of torque holy smokes made 468 on power now let's check out a 302 stroke - a 347 we started with a Summit Racing fully machined and prepped late-model om block then added off-the-shelf parts like an eagle ESP armor forged crank h-beam rods and maula Pistons a Lunati hydraulic roller cam controlled all their valve trains and up top a set of air flow research 205 CC renegade cylinder heads rested on the decks directing the air and fuel charge to them was an Edelbrock Victor jr. intake manifold topped off with an exceptional quick fuel black diamond 750 CFM carb the engine loaded the dyno and made a 4,000 to 6,800 RPM sweep and cranked out 507 horsepower 447 pound-feet of torque option number three can be a 351 Cleveland Cleveland broken rod lengths are the same as factory the cylinders were bored 30 over and we upgraded to a roller cam with more lift and duration or intake we went from a cast-iron dual plane through aluminum single plane and from a two to four-barrel carburetors placing us just over Factory at 357 cubic inches we made a 386 horsepower run right out of the gate the follow-up same identical horsepower with a little more torque at 397 foot-pounds finally our best horsepower pole of the series 390 now you can see just like with the torque the to be had outperform the 4v all the way up to about 4700 rpm the 4v then took over but dropped right back off now that shows that 4v may be good for race but the two V's the one for the street the Cleveland is out but next up we have this 5.0 Mustang 302 EFI 331 stroker from LMR it's already been worked out we're going to see the stock run in this form and then he's gonna switch the heads out let's see the stock run the car managed to make 317 horsepower and 349 pound-feet of torque and that was with 110 leaded race fuel after that run we pulled it off the dyno change the heads cam push rods and roller rockers and strapped it back now [Music] our after pool with the eleven are head in stage two cam the car managed to put down an astonishing 363 horsepower and 376 power Peter so what did you learn from those videos absolutely nothing because most of you guys know about that recipe already but I still want to listen to you guys recipe on these motors what I found out is is that no matter what Windsor you have 302 or 351 you better get a stroker kit for it and go on 347 with the 302 and then with the 351 I am going to go for 8 but I'm gonna have on gt40 P heads or gt40 heads no matter what it is that's what I'm gonna work with until I save another piece of change and get me some good set of heads let's go celebrate and go pick up another engine because I'm too lazy to take the heads off at this moment as I'm walking through this junker I can't help but think about those videos where they spend a lot of money I just can't see spending that type of money to get you know some decent horsepower and torque out of these motors I just can't do it so so we're going to be taking out this engine here because why buy the heads for two hundred and fifty dollars or two hundred dollars while you can get the whole engine for one hundred and fifty dollars with the harness and ECU so it took an off that and took an off that alright so we've do is going to talk to the guy who's about to take out the engine and tell them exactly what I need to be done I don't think this engine is good but we're gonna open it up check the bottom in anyway I check the oil there's no oil and we really don't want the engine so we really don't care we care about those heads a little bit you know hopefully the heads are still good I'm trying to get a glimpse of what happened to the car but I really kind of think that the engine went bad they didn't put any oil in it and I can't even test it see if it'll move again we just want the head there's no oil mixing and nothing like that so I didn't see that I mean this thing had nothing don't know don't know how to gauge this I mean I'm trying to look and see if there's another one in here I was planning to take this one the head out of this one and they got the head but the whole engine that's gone I took the engine out of this one plus the rear and everything else six on this you know one day is gonna be a recipe for six cylinders after a while you know but um yeah so I think we got pretty much everything that we needed so now we're just gonna roll out of here but I'm probably will as I'm walking out I'm going to go check and see if anything else is there and I'll stop I'll get it and then keep it moving this here what is this Starfire 1980 dang I ain't see one of these in a minute automatic body y'see this thing is okay I didn't snatch the steering wheel out floors is definitely rusted out you can really smell like water in that he'll do but the bodies that's doable hey like is like the outside it ain't like it's bad yeah how you open it so we got the motor now we're gonna take it home we got this we got this and you got the engine will seize but it isn't so it just probably ain't got no oil in it or whatever but we'll see what it is when we take it home and 20 minutes lay down all right man we've gotten everything back home I covered it up man because you know it's gonna be on the street for a little bit so we're doing that man we going through a situation with the car behind the scenes one of the injectors right it's just dumping too much gas one cylinder I know which one it is and I'm going to change that injector that's basically it I ain't trying to clean it and I ain't trying to send it back I ain't trying to do nothing just going to change that one injector and keep it moving and then I had an issue with down here all right can't sleep boy had to try to get this thing right so what I did was I use this band file on this part that's out here I had dark out it's straight around here here if you kind of see I you know kind of like you know I did trim the round inside a little bit seen some well particles in there and some other stuff in it kind of worked out good start the car up let some of that debris fly out press this on and it looks like it's better than but then I turned around and then I had another issue which became this situation right here if you guys don't see it the bolt the manifold where I welded because imagine I just started welding and I didn't use the stick welder on this I used that regular Harbor Freight wire feed and I didn't do it too well so I may go underneath and weld it or I may get a different item so I'm gonna go and figure that one out now since that is done men we got the engine we got everything we have a semi solid plan I'm just waiting for the comments below with you guys to see what you guys you know recipe to success with your 302 and 351 I know most of you guys are like dude why are you going back into time why don't you just jump in and get a coyote well I like to go back in the past I'll be able to know your future you have to that's why I can catch a vibe to be able to move forward with some of these bills now I couldn't be able to get that fort Torino so I wanted a full-size car so I'm gonna put this engine or another engine inside of a full-sized car it doesn't seem like this is big magnificent thing it's quite simple yes it is I want it to be special I just don't want to put something together all kind of ratty and just say okay this is what it is it has to be cool it has to have a good sound it has to have a stance it has to have the wheels that fit the build of cars of that genre back then that's the key to this whole thing here I mean hasn't been done before yes being special no am I gonna break the internet no as that's not the purpose the purpose is to just build something kind of cool that the old-timers men say hey yo man that that's that's pretty daggone slick that's all I want an old-timer to say you know I mean that's the recognition I want because I'm passionate about it in my own certain broke way and I just wanted to share this experience with you guys and I do really enjoy the comments and the stories that you slower cars unlocked themselves by passing the crippled Mustang a gentle drizzle begins to fall just enough to bring the oil out of the track he did he just took the daylights out of me a lot of times you know he's I said you know Donna hearing him don't give us a lot try he'd say no one then fruit covers go outrun me but he was something now tell you know we really worked together great and all this and I we met around and quite a few times know this and he said you know what he said by the listening to you a little bit and got on fire don't fix them tires we won that championship 69 that's that's exactly right I said you know every time you've way out front leading the race and the tires come apart after that cost us race cost reset shoes you [Music]
