[Music] hey folks jordy here for premiere basics and we're gonna play around with colors today so i went on a hike through story blocks and found this clip of a woman wearing a blue dress i mean blue who made the call to let this woman wear a blue dress or maybe i shouldn't have searched for blue dress but that would miss the point of the video i want to change that blue dress to a green dress and that's where the lumetri curves comes in so fire up adobe premiere pro and with the clip selected we're gonna go over to the lumetri panel and click on curves and look for the u versus u curves now this basically means we're gonna select a u or in other words a color and then change that u or color there are also other different kinds of options like selecting a u and then changing the luminosity of that selected you or other options mean they're all in here so for the blue dress i'm gonna add two points in my u versus u curve that will span the blue color i can then add a third point in the middle to change the u of that selection to green and there we go much better now pretty funny we can also make a selection around the red and yellow colors which are essentially the skin tones and i make her green so there you go you're saving money you don't have to hire a makeup artist for your fan-made shrek movie now let's say that i don't want the blue makeup and her eyes to change too but only the dress well we can locate the lumetri effect that has been applied to our clip in the effects controls and you'll see some mask options right here and i'll select the pen tool we can now draw a mask around the dress which can be very rough you are gonna need to enable animation for the mask pad and adjust it over time to make it follow the talon's movement but this will make sure that the lumetric color change is only being applied within that mask [Music] alright the next trick involves a color grading fix we all like those teal and orange color grates with the color wheels we can push teal into the shadows and orange into the mid-tones and bang look at that the only thing missing are some black bars and you got yourself a cinematic hollywood movie but don't cheer too fast that color grading is actually doing something awful by pushing teal into the shadows you're changing the colors of black and if you don't have an artistic reason then keep your blacks black and your whites white so we're gonna go over to the drop down menu on top of the lumetri panel and choose add lumetri color effects and you might want to rename that to color fix or something to see better what each lumetri effect does now the reason we're adding a second lumetri effect is because we need to apply the color fix after our grading so that's where the second lumetri effect comes in now go back to the lumetri curves and this time we're gonna look for the luma versus saturation option we can make a luminosity selection so do that for the absolute blacks which are on the left side on the right we can find the whites by the way and then we're going to pull down the blacks desaturating that area it's a subtle change but it keeps your blacks neutral while you still retain that teal in the shadows and as you're probably noticing storyblocks today's sponsor is helping me to save time without sacrificing on quality today no way i was able to shoot all of these example shots myself and that's where the community driven ever growing stock library story blocks comes in with over a million high quality stock assets i can always find what i need whether those are stock clips in hd or 4k resolution you can find various themes and jars or templates you can find so many transition packs for premiere pro or pre-made animations for adobe after effects but there are also tons of backgrounds you know back when i was a freelancer i used to invite companies to my green screen studio for them to record a holiday message and then let them choose the background which was a very original and personal way to thank their clients and partners storyblocks also makes it very easy to create your own vfx by stacking overlay effects such as dust particles or lighting effects we use that all the time at our main channel cinecom now you can download as much as you want with the unlimited all access plan including music and sound effects but also photos vectors and illustrations definitely check it out guys there's an affordable plan for everyone's needs go straight to storyblocks.com forward slash premiere basics or simply click the first link in the description down below alright for the final trick with the curse i have a shot of a man having some real fun because he's holding a ball now a lot of cameras especially those camcorders and cheaper slrs have the problem of being too sensitive to the color reds his shirt is screaming in my face and taking all the attention there are two things that i want to do first of all we're going to go over to the u versus saturation curve i select the red and decrease its saturation and that is already a ton better but i also want to go over to the u versus luma again i selected the red and then decreased the luminosity of the red color it makes red much deeper and vibrant without screaming in your face looking at the before and after we can see a huge improvement not only in his shirt but in all the red colors including his skin tones and that's a bonus tip the color red are basically skin tones i'm gonna go back to mrs blue dress and locate the u vs luma select the red u and we can do two things now we can decrease the luma making her skin tones a little darker i mean we spend so much time sunbathing why not just use lumetri now of course keep this subtle skin tones are something very personal unless you're going for a shrek movie on the opposite side sometimes you want your talent to pop a little bit more in that case we can make our skin tones a little brighter here's the before and after and with dark or black skin tones it's the same i'm gonna lower the luma for the red u but for the saturation i'm actually going to increase that a little bit for the red colors i really like how much deeper the skin tones come out and again you can do the opposite make the red a little brighter to make the talent pop more now light skin tones like myself often have red spots in their face or even lean towards magentas i would not suggest increasing the saturation for the red colors in this case but actually desaturating it a little bit it's a subtle change which can make a very big difference as for the luma we can make it brighter or darker depending on what you want to do but in a nutshell you versus luma and you versus saturation is something very useful to color grade skin tones now if you enjoyed the video you know what to do hit that like button to support the channel as that helps in youtube algorithm thank you so much for watching thank you storyblocks for the support on all of those amazing stock clips throughout the tutorial video and as always stay creative now here on my left you can find more videos and over there is the subscribe button if you want to see this little guy right here every single week wednesday i'm not little i'm actually what is it six foot let's talk meters i'm one meter 88 somewhere i'm gonna stop yapping
