dolby atmos produces the most immersive experience for watching movies at home but how do i get atmos without having a new tv hey team i'm josh in this video we'll go through three different ways to obtain atmos without having an e-arc port let's get to it for starters you'll need a sound system whether that be a soundbar or av receiver that is dolby atmos compatible as tv speakers aren't able to give you atmos check your manufacturer's spec sheet for more info flat panels hd is a super useful resource to find out what your tv is capable of i've got a 55 inch nu 8000 from 2018 and if we scroll down we'll see that my tv doesn't have e-arc but it also can't decode atmos but if we put in something like the lg c7 from 2017 we can see that it doesn't have a yuck either but can decode atmos that brings me to the way that atmos is played if you've got a standard art connection in your tv can to code at moss then you'll get a compressed version of atmos through the dolby digital plus format having a tv with e-arc will give you a full uncompressed dolby atmos through the dolby true hd format which is the best that's currently available that may not matter to you though as streaming services don't support uncompressed atmos due to the file size and the main ways to watch movies in dolby true hd are through blu-rays or from your own media server that's fine and dandy but what if you want full uncompressed atmos and your tv only has arc well there's two main ways you can get around this the first is to bypass your tv's internal audio processor and plug a streaming device such as an apple tv nvidia shield or fire tv stick as well as many other atmos enabled devices straight into your sound system most sound bars and amplifiers have hdmi inputs which will allow you to plug in the streaming device and your speakers will extract the highest audio format i can an easy way to know if you're getting atmos is through the front screen or in the app still plug your sound system into the arc port and then switch your tv source to the hdmi for soundbars and amps you may need to switch it over to output the hdmi source if you're not getting atmos straight away then check the streaming device's settings and make sure it's set to bitstream not pcm for apple tvs it'll tell you whether it's playing atmos in the settings if your soundbar doesn't have an hdmi in then you can purchase the hd fury arcana which i'll link to in the description it connects between the streaming device sound system and tv and essentially extracts the sound from the streaming device and sends it to the soundbar and then directs the video to your tv screen i've had good luck retaining the hdmi cc function which allows for volume control through the tv remote on my samsung tv a quick note if you're having issues getting atmos playing through this method then reboot your streaming device and that should allow the arcana to detect it better with that here's five of the best atmos movies to test your system and the best places to stream them from if you found this video helpful then consider subscribing to archway tech as i'll help you get the most out of your entertainment system anyway that's all from me see you guys soon
