[Music] what's up guys this is jeff chan from memory shredded i'm here with my cousin van and today i'm going to be showing you three types of jabs the pros and cons of each so looking here the first one is the most common jab that i use i call it the flick jab so for the purpose of this video we're going to fill the jab on this pad here so the foot jack is long it's less powerful but it's also fast i'm going to lead with the elbow so from here look how my elbows are kind of flaring out my elbow is going to lead popping i'm going to hit with my knuckles i'm pushing off the balls of my rear foot stepping in and pop again i'm leaving with the elbow it's fast but less powerful because i'm an outside fighter i like to go in and out i'm trying to be long so again that's the split jab i'm flaring and leading with the elbow now as you can see in my sparring not only does the flick jab help me stay on the outside but it comes out really fast now as i mentioned it doesn't cause too much damage and you can see that the head doesn't really get popped back but it's very irritating to your opponent especially when you spam the flick jab two to three times in a row you can blur your opponent's vision to set up other attacks and it's a great way to stack up points by flicking and moving flicking and moving it is also an effective strategy to do this as you back up against an aggressive opponent trying to close the distance on you the second type of jab is called the power jab so this jab is obviously for power and to cause more damage you can knock your opponent out with the jab if you really landed a good shot and you can do a lot of damage with the jab and also if you're wearing enemies so looking here when we fill the power jab we want our elbows tucked into the body i'm going to exaggerate by looking at dig my elbow into my hips like this and i'm going to really rotate the hip and roll that shoulder so look elbow and hips i'm going to twist my knuckle until my palms are facing down i'm going to start with my knuckles facing the ceiling and look at this big twist i'm going to step in and pop so this one is not as long as the flip jab but it's more powerful and more damaging so as you can see in my sparring again these power jabs are distinctively more damaging you can hear a little pop when they land and usually pops my sparring partner's head back a little i tend to use this type of jab when i am pressuring forward and walking down my opponent trying to back them up against the cage or ring i also tend to use this type of jab more in harder sparring for obvious reasons before we continue this video is sponsored by skillshare killshare is an online platform where professionals can create classes and people can pay subscription to learn about several topics such as design marketing video and more you might be interested in vlogging your own martial arts journey like me so there are a lot of resources on this platform for that the specific class i took is called video editing with adobe premiere pro for beginners taught by jordy van de put some of you may have noticed a huge difference in my editing i normally rely on final cut pro but i've just started incorporating adobe premiere to my videos it can take a long time to learn how to use a new editing program but this class quickly taught me what i needed skillshare is created specifically for learning meaning there are no ads and they're always launching new premium classes so you can stay focused and follow wherever your creativity takes you the first thousand of my subscribers to click the link in the description will get a free trial of premium membership so you can explore your creativity and finally the third type of jab is called the hammer fist jack we see israel as saying use it all the time i wouldn't say it's more powerful i wouldn't say it's more faster or longer but what it's good for is it can split through a guard especially in mma when guys have that shell guard when we throw the jab like this if it's tight it's hard to break through but if we do the hammer fist jab we can go right through split right through the guard so vance is going to hold the pad for me there the hammer jab you can throw it in any way you want the only difference is it's a hammer fist so we see our opponent has a nice tight guard we're going to split right through so it acts as a good tool to open up the guard then follow up with that cross again over here bang again every jab we gotta push off a rear foot step in top and opens up that guard for our cross and here in my sparring you can see that my partner shelled up for my jab and i was able to split through his guard with my hammer fist jab even though i was wearing boxing gloves now imagine how much easier it would be while wearing enemy gloves this type of jab is probably the least used for me personally but it is still a great option to have depending on the situation the more weapons you have in your arsenal the better off you are [Music]
