Welcome. Today I will show you three popular riddles from the United States. Write down in the comments which riddles you were able to solve. Let's get to the first riddle. James has been thrown into a prison cell with a dirt floor and a high window. The only other thing in the room is a shovel. Because it is hot and dry in the prison cell, and there's neither food nor water, James will only be able to survive two more days. After several attempts at trying to reach the window to escape, he decides that the only option would be to dig a tunnel to the outside. Digging your way out of prison isn't the easiest plan though, and James knows that it could take weeks, but there's still another opportunity that would go much faster and save James' life. Can you tell what it is? Pause the video now to think a bit more. 3... 2... 1... Okay, the solution how James can escape the prison is to use the dirt from the hole he's digging to build a pile that is high enough to escape out of the window. Even if James doesn't come up with that idea, he will probably notice this opportunity when he starts digging the tunnel. Here comes riddle number 2 Finally, after getting lost in the desert and walking for days, you come to a small town. At the town gate sits a guardian who plays a game with every stranger and only the winners will pass. You sit down on his perfectly round table, and you both have a huge pile of coins. The rules are as follows: each player will in turn place a coin on the table. The coin must lay flat. It cannot overlap any other coins and it cannot hang off the edge of the table. The first player unable to successfully place a coin loses the game. The guardian is sure that he's really good at this game and has decided to let you go first. What strategy can you come up with that guarantees you to win? Pause now to think about the solution. 3... 2... 1... I really like the solution to this one because once you get it, it absolutely makes sense. For your first move, place a coin directly in the middle of the table. After each coin the guardian places, you just need to place your coin in the opposite spot. By first placing a coin in the middle of the table and then mirroring the guardian, you will always have a place for your coins, and he will definitely run out of room first. Now to the third riddle. Jack is a criminal who needs some extra cash to pay back all his debts . He decided to rob a bank and he planned everything carefully, but then he comes across a password lock which he didn't expect to be closed. Unfortunately, you are a hostage of Jack and he threatens to kill you if you can't open the lock for him. He has the following information with him that can assist you in cracking the password. The password is a 5 digit number. The fourth digit is 4 more than the second one. The third digit is 3 less than the second one. The first digit is 3 times the fifth digit. 3 pairs of digits sum up to 11. Can you find out the code? Pause the video here for more thinking time. 3... 2... 1... The only possible 5 digit password is 65292. The first clue tells that the code is 5 numbers long. Let's call the numbers "a" "b" "c" "d" "e". The second clue tells that the fourth number, "d", equals "b" plus 4, so "b" can't be more than 5. The third clue tells that the middle number equals "b" minus 3. That means "b" is not less than 3. The fourth clue tells us that "a" is 3 times "e" so "e" can be 1, 2, or 3, and "a" is 3, 6, or 9. Now the last clue lets us know we need 3 pairs of numbers summing 11. "a" and "e" cannot sum 11 because we know that "b" is either 3, 4, or 5. We can just try the different possibilities for the middle numbers "b" "c" "d" knowing that we need at least One pair that sums up to 11. When we have 3 0 7, it doesn't work; with 4 1 8 it doesn't work either. That means it has to be 5 2 9 and the other 2 pairs come from having a 6 and a 2. That were 3 of my favorite riddles that are popular in the United States. I hope you enjoyed it and see you in the next video.
