in 18 of the past 20 Seasons there has been at least one NFL team that has gone from last place in their division to first place in just the very next season last year the team to do this was the Jacksonville Jaguars the Jaguars made tremendous strides last season after finishing with the worst record in the NFL for two consecutive Seasons they were aggressive in the off season signing wide receiver Christian Kirk and also hiring former Eagles and Super Bowl winning head coach Doug Peterson these moves would go a long way in helping the development of Trevor Lawrence who had an extremely lackluster rookie season despite being labeled as the best Prospect since Andrew Luck and Peyton Manning the Jags even completed the fifth largest comeback in NFL history last season when they came back from a 27 to nothing deficit against the Los Angeles Chargers in the Wild Card round but this raises the question who's going to do it this year here are three teams that I believe have the best chance of catapulting themselves from worse to First in their divisions this season starting off I have the New Orleans Saints last season the Saints finished with a 7-10 record which technically due to tiebreakers puts them in third place in their division so technically if the saints were to win the NFC South this season it wouldn't count as a worse to first season but either way the point is the saints were not a very good football team last year the Jameis Winston experiment didn't work out and he would be replaced by Andy Dalton in week four due to injury which would ultimately mean that another season would go by without them having a long-term replacement for the legendary Drew Brees also Wide Receiver Michael Thomas was injured for basically the entire season yet again the Saints simply just could not put points on the board last year the Saints averaged 19.4 points per game which ranked just 22nd in the entire NFL despite a lackluster season there were a few bright spots on their team the defense was actually pretty good giving up the ninth fewest points in the league they were also great at the defending the pass holding opposing quarterbacks to just 184.4 yards per game which was the second fewest in the entire NFL on the offensive side of the ball their first round wide receiver Crystal Lobby was the only bright spot as he caught for over a thousand yards and four touchdowns in his rookie season so the Saints have a little bit to build on going into the season the only question was who is going to be their quarterback well after getting released from the Raiders the Saints would sign Derek Carr to a four-year deal worth up to 150 million dollars and I think it's safe to say that Derek Carr is certainly an upgrade from Andy Dalton at this point in their careers they also went out and signed running back Jamal Williams who led the NFL with 17 rushing touchdowns last year and not only that their division isn't too Stellar either to say the least the Buccaneers are in a transitional Year trying to get back on their feet after the retirement of Tom Brady the Carolina Panthers have a new head coach in Frank Reich and a rookie who will likely take some time to get used to the NFL and the Falcons are starting Desmond Ritter who didn't exactly have a stellar rookie season only averaging 177 pass yards per game so it's safe to say that the NFC South is wide open and the Saints upgraded out quarterback the most important position on the field they have the best defense in the division and also upgraded their rushing offense as well that sounds like a perfect storm for the Saints to end up as NFC South Champions next up I have the New York Jets last year the Jets finished with a 7-10 record which was good for last place in the AFC East this was a team that was surprisingly six and three heading into their bye week but then went one and seven in the remaining eight games to finish off the season the blame for this could be placed mostly entirely on the Jets incredibly subpar quarterback play the Jets had three quarterbacks start for the team last year all three of them couldn't complete 60 of their passes and also all three of them did not have a passer rating above 75 but let's focus on their primary starter Zach Wilson last year Zach Wilson ranked dead last in completion percentage and dead last in passer rating he also led the league in bad throw percentage as over 25 percent of his passes were off Target despite this he somehow had a winning record of five and four in the nine games he started last year the reason for that is because the Jets defense was Stellar last season the Jets were one of only four teams that allowed fewer than 20 points per game to opposing offenses the Jets also held opposing quarterbacks to only 189 yards per game and an average passer rating of 80.5 which ranked second fewest in the NFL the Jets were also the third team in NFL history that produced both the offensive rookie of the year and the Defensive Rookie of the Year in the same season as Garrett Wilson and sauce Gardner both received Rookie of the Year honors on their respective sides of the football bris Hall their rookie running back was also averaging 5.8 yards per carry before he tore his ACL last season so going into the off season it was clear that the Jets had one extreme dream weakness at the most important position in the league they had to make an upgrade at quarterback well I'd say bringing in a four-time MVP Super Bowl champion and future Hall of Fame quarterback might be a little bit of an upgrade the Jets rolled the dice and traded for Aaron Rodgers I feel like just that one move makes them instantly one of the NFL's most improved teams if Zach Wilson could have a winning record with this team despite being arguably the worst quarterback in the entire NFL just imagine what Aaron Rodgers could do with this same team and if Garrett Wilson managed to put up over 1100 yards with Zach Wilson at quarterback just imagine what he could do with Aaron Rodgers the Jets have a championship level defense and now they have potentially one of the scariest new wide receiver and quarterback Duos in the entire league with Aaron Rodgers and Garrett Wilson not only do they have a chance to go from worst to first in the AFC East they have a chance to compete for a Super Bowl this season to finish off the list I have the Cleveland Browns the Browns had yet another wildly disappointing season last year as they finished with a 7-10 record and found themselves in last place in the AFC North for the eighth time since 2010. the question really is what were we supposed to expect out of the Browns last season the Sean Watson was suspended for the first 11 games of the year he hadn't played any football for over a year and a half and not only that during the entirety of his suspension he wasn't allowed to practice with the team and he wasn't even allowed at the team's facility so DeSean Watson started in week 13 without having played in a real football game for almost two years he wasn't allowed to practice with the team he had to learn an entire new playbook without being able to practice of course the guy is going to stink so what did we really expect out of DeSean Watson last year the end of last season for the Browns was basically like the preseason and I think as an organization they expected that but now it's put up or shut up time for the Browns they went out and traded three first-round picks and signed Sean Watson to a fully guaranteed 230 million dollar contract he has to play well this season or everyone is getting fired but while the fate of the Browns certainly rests primarily upon the performance of DeSean Watson I would like to bring to light some of the major improvements that this team has made to the roster this off season last year the Browns were a bottom 10 rushing defense in the league teams were able to run up and down the field against the Browns as they gave up 135 rushing yards per game the Browns also gave up the third most rushing touchdowns in the entire league they also had trouble getting to the quarterback as they were bottom 10 in the NFL in sacks and bottom three in terms of hitting opposing quarterbacks so in the off season they went out and hired Jim Schwartz as their defensive coordinator they also brought in pass rusher zadarius Smith from the Vikings and also signed defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson to help improve their rushing defense then offensively they traded for wide receiver Elijah Moore who has been Turning Heads during training camp and will be one of the Sean Watson's favorite Target Targets this season so even though the Browns have made some big improvements this off season like I said earlier it really comes down to the play of DeSean Watson I think it's safe to say that Watson will certainly improve this season from how he played at the end of last year I don't think any quarterback in the world would have succeeded in his circumstances last season plus people seem to forget just how good DeSean Watson was before all of his illegal troubles there was really an argument between him and Patrick Mahomes as to who was the best Young quarterback in the league so with all of the additions that the Browns have made this off-season they're able to boast one of the NFL's most well-rounded rosters and if DeSean Watson returns to his past self the Browns will be one of the NFL's most dangerous teams hey everyone thank you all so
