3 Days Solo Wild Camping and Fishing with Kayak

[Music] foreign [Music] hello and welcome to the sleepy olympics video plan was was to get out in the kayak and uh and find a spot on the coast to wild camp but today i've missed the tide so we're gonna do that tomorrow instead but in the meantime got a patch tied on we've got a nine foot bass rod and we're going to go and see what we can get out here never fished here before but uh got him it looks pretty fishy drifting pick it up but there's an area where you can see um looks like a bit of current running through so i'm going to give it a try there first nice first cast of this new rod see what your cast's like that's all right didn't put a too much well into that but oh it makes work on that surface louis super easy feels lush to be trucking at roman again top water that is i had a few sessions out on the rocks back at home but i just love this type of fishing i like throwing the top water around when i come to a new area or just all the time basically like everyone does but uh easter after 10 or 20 casts gives you an idea if there's any fish around next spot i was just over there before just come in here this little bay right in the edge of the weed i think well i spent a bit of time checking my lure around getting used to my rod what a peach that is nature's alarm call sounds great so i've uh spent the night in the car just woke up um thanks to the birds and actually the sun is pounding it now it's going to be a scorcher of the day uh can't wait for it i'm going to uh cook some bacon an egg and get a coffee on the go because i really need a coffee need some fuel i've got to uh sort all my kit out in the car got my sleeping bag airing out and uh pack all that up yeah get everything organized for getting loaded on the kayak again because i wasn't planning on unpacking everything it's meant to be just so it was all packed and ready just to load in the kayak and the way it would go but had to unpack it all and uh take everything off the car and things so have a little bit of a saw but the seeds calling so the bacon so you know i throw through a couple of lures around first now i'm gonna get some breakfast alright let's get on that so these are all the supplies we've got for the next few days pre-made a few um salad sandwiches i've got a study a lot of studies this is for me breakfast some wraps in case i decide to keep some fish potatoes the essential bottle of cholula hot chili sauce bag of green stuff chipotle and lime um rub for steak and fish a few onions couple of lemons herbal bars for extra energy pint of milk for coffee some oil this is actually a uh kind of using it as a homemade uh cool bag we've got some peppers some eggs steak for tonight some mexican chili cheese and the bacon oh can't wait oh and there we go might look a little rough but yeah that's just what you need after spending night in the car let's go fishing the wind's still negative so i've got on a baby patch uh i've brought out a couple of soft plastics with me a lure factory cattle tongue i think it's called there are a couple of lure factory lowers anyway check them out really good lures and i've also brought out a couple of metals with us just in case uh i need to fish out a bit of distance but uh i'm hoping hoping the baby patch this is the first lure i've ever bought second law sorry in uh had a lot of fish so hopefully it's going to uh do the business today it's got an hour or two before i have to uh head back to where i want to launch my kayak it's been a kind of easy morning so well nothing there tried uh surface subsurface and uh little uh slow jigs right this is the last cast and then i'm going to walk back to the car i've fished six points and four bays and so far i've had nothing go back to the car get my stuff kayak loaded back on make a half hour drive or so to the uh the place that i want to launch and then uh get on the water what a day for kayaking i mean there's like a four mile an hour wind no swell gonna uh it's gonna be lush and then to top it off nice night in the hammock tonight what is scorching look so uh kayak's fully packed loaded she is heavy about halfway let's take 40 minutes so far it's just bliss and i'm not going to set camp or anything i'm going to come straight back and go fishing sorry about the camera angle the kayaks listening yeah it's slightly squint horizon but this is where i'm going to be staying here the birds singing already it's like a nice little natural harbor [Music] there this kayak's brilliant but one of the main complaints is that the hatch is tiny so uh it's not quite as good as my ocean kayak was for this type of thing there's me 10 liters of water [Music] come on this is going to be mint from this in the water as well looks like it's off a big old lobster not huge but uh if i could find one of them at low tide then that would go amazing with my steak imagine that campfire surf and turf oh and i kind of yeah life wouldn't get any better like a game trail here or yeah there's no footprints i guess some visitors in the night just can't resist it i haven't even finished my sandwich yet spotted this uh there was a the current moving over it looks like a really good bit of structure out there as well so it's got lining this is the uh the midsize patch might just be a bit too big for the current conditions up yeah all i do i think angler's utopia weird-looking thing but it casts like a missile it's caught me a load of fish so i had absolutely nothing on the lures earlier not a single hit that's ten past four so gonna fish for an hour i'm not far from camp here i in 10 meters of water and i'm literally 20 yards from the shore here 10 meters and 20 yards yeah about 10 meters from the shore as well i'm just having a jig around just to kind of chill and see what's around really [Applause] got a fish first fish of the trip feels like a pollock oh it's come off oh yep oh it has no first fish of the trip baby pollock not the stump we're after but it's a good start what the hell how about that something big just hit that luau and super light got another one slightly bigger than the last one tide started to go out and uh it's wind over tide so i've come around the corner i've got a lovely slow little drift on the go here i'm just bouncing this metal off the deck because i've taken the treble off and left the single assist hook on and hopefully the noise is the metallic noise and the uh the action of the lure will bring the granddad of these two fish that i've just caught along oh and jig a bit and then uh might have a few casts with the uh with the lure rod as well i've got a slow jig tied on there at the moment oh just come off my reel and just falling into the sea i've just seen it go down on my sona all right i'm gonna swap over to uh my spinning reel damn that's gonna be a pain yes hey this actually feels like a macro what's it doing on the bottom no no it's not [Applause] it's a spritey little pollock either z put in a bit of a scrap oh oh wow it's half five i'm gonna uh maybe give this one more drift tide is honking i'm gonna have to paddle against the tide which is fine it's not not too bad but i'm thinking of that steak so i'm gonna give it maybe 10 more minutes now that i'm thinking about steak again well that's me 10 minutes up your belly's rumbling just got background literally just about to wind us in and i think i've got a macro on probably the biggest one of the day typically so next time i'm going camping somewhere around a beach so you can use a trolley look at this place so there we go looks a bit claustrophobic but uh it's not at all once i'm in there and i'll bring this corner down down here into an a-frame once it's time to get the bed i've just done that so i can get in and out a bit easier ideally this tree would be a bit further back and i could just raise this side but uh i don't want to cut it down or snap it it's got green shoots on it so that wouldn't be cool it's time to get out of these dry pants and uh probably open a beer maybe and start thinking about cooking that steak i've been waiting for this all day well since yesterday actually but uh yeah now's the time [Music] [Music] hmm that certainly makes up for a shitty fishing kind of beer big ribeye steak and a hammock to retire to later and there's always tomorrow i've really enjoyed the day mine were blank this morning on the basket don't really expect that much then a few little pollock and a on a macro kind of kept us entertained there's not a breath of wind now if i can move after reading this lot i might actually go drink some lures down here it's just like glass either way i'm gonna turn the camera off and enjoy me dinner i'll catch these in a bit just seeing some fish rising so i'm uh gonna go and cast a line there's a boat over there hauling these pots probably can't make it out but i can hear uh oh what's happening everybody's free to feel good flaring out over the water [Music] we have fire for a little while but those guys on youtube always do it in one go somehow oh what a fitting way to end the day thoroughly enjoyed the day a lot of fishing had a few fish a bit of paddling ate some really nice food looking forward to sleep getting a capability hammock once this has been down a bit looking forward to getting up early tomorrow and taking advantage of the good weather in the morning [Music] uh ah well good morning what a day this nice uh chorus of bird song to be walking up to it's um it's about half seven so had a pretty good lie lying sleeping was all right sleeping's always great but uh i slept in the hammock quite well not too many deers crashing around or anything so uh yeah just sort of basking in the sunshine at the moment let's get some caffeine on the go some bacon some sun creams i feel like it's going to be a real scorcher there's a remnant of my modest fire last night gonna take this down and take the ashes below the water line get rid of any trace of us being here so that's breakfast out the way feels good lovely coffee so i've just had a quick look at the forecast and uh today's canny but it's gonna um it's gonna well it's gonna get pretty windy this afternoon then the wind's gonna hang around for the next few days so with the swell as well so i am going to clean up here and break camp we'll get out and go and do some fishing right we're on a bit of a shore mission this morning decided i'm uh just going to wait for the tide to come in a bit and then fish from the shore here because it looks lush um the aim is just to catch any fish any type of fish so we've got a z-man punch claw a little uh said blast metal 10 grams slow jig and we've got a um charlie brewer's slider uh grass minnow never been here like so i don't know what i'm looking for well i know what i'm looking for i don't know oh oh that's a shame tide's coming in and that's going to be covered in no time keep going so i've got about four lures with us and a massive rucksack which isn't ideal but you carry me drawing and camera stuff around somehow yes i thought i'd going down there but again the tide's coming in so i'll uh i'll lose out sharpish but that ramp looks good but i'd have a couple of casts with the metal kind of scouting around looking for uh somewhere else to go and when i was on that slanty mark just before it's fishing line up here i'm not the only person who've been here uh when i was on that slanty mark before i noticed this ledge down here i've just found a way to get down to it down there so uh now we're gonna go down there onto those barnacles cast out that way see what see what we can find not been here before so not for the show so that uh troy's got to keep moving and find new places to fish i reckon i could get along this way actually a bit tricky with one one hand i'll be able to come back out this way yeah check this out [Music] so [Music] so yes i just assumed there was another [Applause] another ledge well it's the best product of the trip it's not saying much mind well there we go got a fish today maybe about a pound and a half mint colors green across the back straight out yes i'm well happy with that come on get in it don't often catch bigger fish from the shore than you do from the kayak but yes i'm well happy with it so that one fell to the uh slider shad it's fishing it just a little quicker rather than uh kind of sit with those uh slow baits like the uh the punch crawl we're just kind of hitting and ledge and you couldn't really fish it effectively but i've been dragging this up over the ledges are just above them quite quick and uh yeah actually like i say i thought that was a um i thought it was under the ledge get in it's made me day well this is going to be the last casting after shoot make sure that uh get back to the launch place the boat ramp in time for um high water all right let's do one let's get this uh yak loaded up and um get paddling i'll go back to the kayak just brought everything down as close to the water as a car and the tide's still coming in but luckily look kayak's only there i don't have to carry it too far which was kind of the plan come on holiday don't call us lazy right let's get this beam off in the water graceful sorry baby that's it i'm gonna puddle back to the uh the launch site [Music] you
