welcome to Halifax Nova Scotia the largest city in Atlanta Canada in the easternmost city in North America with passenger whale conviction tomorrow I'll be here Montreal Quebec the second largest french-speaking city in the world hi there folks I'm Noah from Nokia travels and welcome to the Halifax train station Today's a video that I've been waiting to make for a very long time we're actually doing gear rails ocean train in sleeper class from Halifax to Montreal let's stop waiting around let's head inside the station via rails the ocean one of Canada's Great sleeper trains as well as the oldest one having been in service since 1904. through this 1 346 kilometer 22 hour ride we'll be passing through historic places in Eastern Canada like the Bedford Basin Moncton New Brunswick the Miramichi River before Crossing into Quebec and crossing the Quebec City Bridge before coming into Montreal fun fact about me is that I actually work on this route as a train attendant so I know this route like the back of my hand I'll be showing you all the sights different amenities and different things that you can do on this train as well as a private sleeping cabin for the duration of the trip as I boarded the train I made my way to my private room my home for the trip welcome to my bedroom for the night [Music] about 12 30 right now we're due to leave in about half an hour so as amenities you get napkins a root guide which I'll be using a lot on this trip bottle of water and get a couple of hand towels and some soap there's a water bottle refill staff right here you have a sink that folds it like this that comes up like that and then to drain it you just move it up like that now this part's really weird this is your toilet so would you use a toilet that's just in your room like that or would you not let me know in the comments below and then this is my bed for the night which I'll show you how that works a little bit later and as well a great window to look out of and a shower kit I don't think I'm gonna be taking a shower this trip but if you ever wanted to you have your towels and soap there this is one of Canada's three sleeper trains and is one of Canada's most popular routes VIA Rail Brands it the maritime I'll show you what the meals are like what the amenities are like what my room is like and well the overall experience of such a great Sleeper Car train and just like that we left Halifax right on time [Music] foreign departure the lunch announcement is made since I'm a sleeping car passenger all of my meals are included automatically so I don't have to spend anything on meals it is time for lunch so I'm walking up to the dining car now let's go eat [Music] [Music] thank you [Music] lunch was to say the least pretty good though there definitely could have been some improvements made on the quality the meals on the ocean are all pre-packaged unlike the Canadian which has a live Chef cooking everything however the clam chowder was absolutely stellar and the carrot cake for dessert was a nice touch we made a brief stop in the quaint little town of Truro Nova Scotia while we were in the middle of the lunch setting and then kept rolling towards more iconic landmarks in Atlanta Canada like the Bay of Fundy the border to New Brunswick for Boze Azure and the Dorchester Penitentiary we then steamed right into our first extended stop Lumpkin New Brunswick [Music] all right we're in our first Smoke Stop of this trip which is the city of Moncton New Brunswick the second largest city in the Atlantic Canada region with a population of just over 80 000 people we have about 15 minutes here to just walk around stretch our legs get some fresh air so I'm gonna do just that and get as much pressure as I can before we hop back on the train for another six hours one of the things that should be noted about Moncton is it is a crew change so that's why we have about 15 minutes here to give up the engine the motives to change Crews and as quickly as we arrived we got the All Aboard called to get back on the train next stop the town I was born in Mira mashi home sweet home [Music] after leaving Moncton we're on the slowest part of the route now which is the section between Moncton Campbellton otherwise more professionally known as the New Castle succubus about 30 to 40 years ago you could complete this stretch in about three hours which was actually pretty quick you can do about 75 miles an hour which is around 120 kilometers an hour now the stretch of the track takes almost six and a half hours to do because the tracks have been left neglected for so long without any repairs done to them that the train can only do about 30 miles an hour for a majority of the section which is actually about the speed that we're doing right now okay enough railroad jargon for now we're arriving in Miro machine New Brunswick a city known for the salmon that occupies the famous rivers I feel very lucky to pass through my own birthplace on this train if only baby Noah knew where he'd be in 20 years I'd also like to point out that in just six hours look at how the weather has completely changed that's Atlanta Canada for you and what better time to give you guys a tour of the train now obviously this isn't sleeper class but just another section of the train in case you're thinking of traveling on the train for a cheaper this is the economy class section of the train so if this train uses two types of equipment we do have our blue seated Renaissance cars and our Brown seated pet cars that's all the same class it's all economy class these are all super comfortable to even sleep in during the night sure it might be a bit of a long haul for being 22 hours on this train but I've done this trip in economy before and I still found it to be super comfortable if you want to see a more in-depth video about riding economy class here's a link in the description below and in the card up here it'll show you my experience in economy on the rails potion now quite a ways down the train actually on the other end of the train from where I'm staying are what's considered the first class rooms of this train these are our Renaissance cabins for two with a shower essentially these are the more modern rooms that we have on our train these were built in the late 1990s we have a bed here that comes down like that another bed that comes down like that with the ladder temperature control and lighting Arrangements your own private bathroom and a great spacious area to chill out for your entire trip these rooms are the most expensive rooms on the train I've seen them as cheap for about 500 Canadian dollars but during peak season like in the middle of summer or during Christmas they couldn't be as expensive as a thousand dollars Canadian but what comes with the price of your ticket is all the meals that you have included and a great comfortable bed that you can lie down in at any time during your 22 hour Voyage on this train this is one of the other sleeping options that we have on this train these are our perks what starts out as benches during the day will eventually fold down into bunk beds with curtains now the Privacy isn't as good as one of the bedrooms or anything like that but it is the comfiest sleep on the train from what a lot of people tell me and it's also the cheapest sleeping option on this train you can find them for between three to five hundred dollars okay the last car I'll show you for now is the service car which features a spacious Lounge a service canteen free Wi-Fi and giant windows for your viewing pleasure while this space is fantastic it's a shadow of what this train used to be since this train used to have a dome car however this is not possible anymore due to the trains and ability to properly turn around in Halifax it's a crying shame that this train doesn't have it anymore as it's a big reason why many even wanted to take this train in the first place and before I knew it suppertime rolled around so it was time for me to head back to the dining car foreign [Music] we're in a little place called jacket river right now it's about 10 30 p.m normally when you're coming back on this train from Montreal you can see out into the bay to shallow but as you can tell from the outside it's dark so you can't really see anything I'll put some footage up here of some of the shots I've got of the beta shallow coming in on Via 14. as I said that we pulled into our second service stop and the last town we'll see in Atlanta Canada Campbellton [Music] so for those of you who are not railroaders and don't understand our train the cars that I'm staying in are 70 year old American Canadian build Bud cars they were built in the 1950s for the Canadian Pacific Railway when they were running passenger trains and then these guys here are the Renaissance coaches they were built in the 1990s for the underground Paris to London Channel train that never fully succeeded the British government weren't using these cars so the Canadian government bought them on discount and we've been using them since the early 2000s on the ocean these cars however are nearing the end of their lifespan I think they've only got a few years left I'm trying to see them as much as I can before their phase out of existence [Music] after a long day of being on this train it's finally time to go to bed and actually get the bed set up all settle down in bed [Music] here's what the room looks like with the bed put down lots of space to sleep and the bed is so comfy it's hotel quality bedding so you could sleep in this for weeks and not have any issues with your back and still feel comfortable but I'm only in this for a night as we get into Montreal tomorrow morning at around 10 a.m if we're on time catch you guys tomorrow morning somewheres in Quebec [Music] thank you [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] ly traveling at a Brisk pace of 131 kilometers an hour and we're running about an hour and 40 minutes behind schedule now let's get this day started shall we [Music] foreign [Music] we're currently crossing the St Lawrence River by the Quebec City train bridge a National Historic Site in Canada due to the tragic collapses it suffered during construction in 1907 and 1916. we arrived into satwa Quebec at 8 30 a.m which is our final service stop of the trip St law is an outskirt of the famous Quebec City since the station is across the St Lawrence River we have to back out onto the main line to keep going to Montreal no we're not going back to Halifax yeah no more stops till Montreal yeah for we're off now we're on what's known as the corridor one of the fastest sections of tracks in Canada where we'll easily see speeds of 150 kilometers an hour and a top speed of 160. this is prime time to make up delays as we can easily make up an hour of lost time on this home stretch to Montreal we didn't have much time left on board so I paid a visit to the lounge car and had some laughs with fellow passengers [Music] thank you just left the city of Saint hyacin but that means we only have 45 minutes until we get to Montreal I'm gonna head back to my room now so I have a couple of personal things I'd like to say this video is pretty important to me I've covered this train a lot on my channel but this has been the video I've
