hey everyone it's Ben Hardy here and today we have a midsize pickup truck Showdown we are comparing the Nissan Frontier to the new Tacoma the new ranger and Chevy Colorado basically all of the big players in the midsize pickup truck Market before we get into this video as always a huge shout out and thank you to all of the dealers for giving me some time with the trucks oncl to link to all their websites in the description down below but just to quickly go over them fordon Provo provided the ranger Chevy and Provo provided the Colorado Nissan and orm provided the frontier and then the Toyota dealership also in or Bren Brown Toyota provided the Tacoma like I said link to all websites in the description down below link to my carbine guide as well let's get into [Music] it starting with the Colorado we have a turbocharged 2.7 L 4 cylinder that goes through an 8-speed automatic transmission fuel economy is 18 around town and then 23 on the highway with power outputs being 310 horsepower and then 430 lb Fe of torque now popping over to the ranger we have a turbocharged 2.3 l 4 cylinder that goes through a 10-speed automatic transmission fuel climbing 20 around town and then 24 on the highway with power outputs being 270 horsepower and then 310 lbet of torque the front tier is powered by a naturally aspirated 3.8 L V6 that goes through a 9-speed automatic transmission fuel economies 18 around town and then 22 in the highway with power output being 310 horsepower and then 281 lb Fe of torque and then finally we have the Tacoma that's powered by a turbo 2.4 L 4 cylinder that goes to an 8-speed automatic transmission fuel economies 19 around town and then 24 on the highway with power outputs being 278 horsepower and then 3117 pound Fe of torque before we move forward I want to mention that if you want to see more videos just like this then I recommend you subscribe because I post content every single day now I'll mention the MSRP prices at the end but all these trucks basically sticker for the same amount of money I'll start with the Colorado when it comes to the front end you guys can see we've got fog lights you got this cool sporty design with the headlights tow hooks there at the bottom we also have an air dam as well with the Colorado black do Grill but overall looks sporty the ranger has c-shaped headlights very interesting got fog lights recovery points you've got pretty rugged protection there I mean look at that that's pretty aggressive looking with the ranger and then with the Nissan similar to the ranger you can see with the recovery points and then just how aggressive the skid plates are underneath on the frontier it it's really cool looking and you've got very boxy headlights I'd say the boxiest out of the bunch and so and also the grill is very upright and then popping over the Tacoma just like all the other trucks it's got fog lights huge air dam there at the bottom this is the least off-road out of the bunch um you have to spend quite a bit more money to get some off-road stuff on the Tacoma but regardless let me know which front end you like most and I like how there's three gray trucks and then one white truck I almost got all the colors the same almost TI wheel set up at the Colorado is 2656518 in the front and over in the rear you can see with the wheel design you got the silver with the metallic gray and we actually have these nice altering tires and you can see stuff like the badge the mirat blacked out and then I do mention we've got traditional leaf springs here in the back with the Colorado got the Z71 logo there and then taking a few steps back you can see how the fenders kind of Bulge out a bit so it's got that you know kind of like wide-bodied look it's pretty cool now with the ranger turn wheel setup is 25577 in the front and over in the rear you can see metallic gray for the coloration on the wheels just like the Colorado we've got these allterrain tires I like how the fender flares are painted a different color than the body you can see with the bumper as well got fixed side steps on this and then just like the Colorado will kind of squeeze through here we've got leaf springs in the back and you can see the FX4 logo and then when it comes to side view this isn't going to be perfect because it's one of the trucks that's squished in the center but it's kind of got that traditional Ranger look where it's it's narrower with the body you've got kind of like bigger fender flares turn wheel setup on the front TI is 2657017 in the front and over in the rear here and I like the wheel design on the front here with the silver and now it's blacked out allterrain tires just like the other trucks and then you can see with the beefy Fender Flare here and then we got those cool side steps as well and then notice with the mirror caps it's all body painted and then of course we got to have a decal here on the side to signify it's an off-road package and then again leaf springs and just like the ranger kind of squished but it's kind of in between the Ranger and the Colorado it's got more of a widebody appearance than the ranger but not quite as much as the Colorado but then it also has big fender flares like the ranger now with the Tacoma our turn wheel setup is 24577 in the front and over in the rear and you can see here with the wheels you've got the silver coloration just regular street tires with the Tacoma and this is interesting it looks like a fender flare and that's technically right there but it's actually just an extension on the body work it's got that wide body look see the Chrome badging and then the Tacoma's the odd man out uh aside from the tires it also has oil suspension in the back end instead of leaf springs and then taking a few steps back here's your side profile with the Tacoma now let's see what's what with the tailgates so Tacoma slow lowers down Frontier slow lowers down the ranger slow lowers down man it seems like they're all the same yeah look at that all of them now back to the Tacoma um you guys can see protection from the factory with the bed you've got LED lights here in the bed can see that for cargo tie downs at the top also more tie downs here at the bottom and it's pretty decent Siz bed for a midsize pickup truck see lifting up the tailgate easy Frontier also has protection and sliders for cargo tie downs um no lights oh actually sorry there are lights underneath the cargo tie downs got an outlet too and on the front TI your tailgate little bit more weight still easy no bedliner here but we do have outlets in the bed and then with this tailgate similar to the Tacoma and finally looks like the Colorado has the well it's got an outlet yeah and it does have cargo tie down points so it's got that and then we've got this that already has protection you got a little bit of storage there it's drainable and then I think this tailgate actually so the niss is probably the heaviest now when it comes to rear design you can see with the Tacoma you've got the double slit tail light design the exhaust tips just poking out the back but notice the bumper body painted and all that I mean it looks nice for more of like an entry level package popping over to the frontier you can see a lot of painted elements like the bumper there love the taillight design on the frontier I still think this looks probably the sharpest in the midsize pickup truck segment Nissan did a really good job with the styling on this new frontier little exhaust it poking out and both of them actually have mud flaps funny enough and then popping over to the ranger it's got some cool stuff so again new taillight design the bumper painted in Gray to kind of contrast everything and then you have this cool bedside step not quite a bumper step technically cuz it's far enough in and then finally with the Colorado you do have bumper steps with that bumper is blacked out which is pretty cool tailights are cool looking and I guess the one thing that all these trucks in common is they got exhaust tips just hanging out look at that every single one of them so inside of the Tacoma we'll compare space in all of them uh this is our starting point this is an SR5 so get more basic with the material use see the cup holders and then looking at these seats you can see full cloth seats here in the back and then Headroom it's good in the back of the front here it's an interesting situation so I feel like I have more kind of foot space compared to the Tacoma but the seats feel like they're lower down to the ground here and so it's kind of like my knees feel like they're pushed up more if that makes sense anyways got soft touch here on the door panel and then this version of the pro forx has cloth seats we got that cloth trim down the center manual window in this and then Headroom uh I got it got a bit now in the ranger I've got similar space to the front here but then the seats higher up so my knees aren't getting shoved up so this feels the most comfortable so far out of the bunch and then you can see with the stitching that goes across and this is interesting that and then here are the seats cloth all down the center portion and then Headroom it's good so the Colorado is more similar to the Tacoma in terms of the spacing so yeah I'd say the ranger best uh back seat anyways got the stitching that goes across in red soft touch there which is nice and then I like these seat in terms of the look look at that like the camo design down the center manual just like the Nissan and then Headroom it's good well let start her up Tacoma away uh so you can see with the front door pan you actually do get some soft touch here for the front all your window controls blind spot wiing with mirrors payload capacity is 1,200 lb and then by the way this is manual for the seat on the Tacoma and then you can see we've got stuff like stability control here on the side love the steering wheel design perforated there got stuff like your adaptive cruise control controls for the center got this like partially digital partially analog gauge cluster I didn't mean to click the cruise control there um but regardless yeah you can scroll through and see different bits of info on systems within the truck and then just a standard backup camera as for the infot system this is Toy's unit they have in a bunch of their cars uh quick response time it just has has a short cut bar on the side so easy to use a little volume control single zone climate and like these buttons got a wireless phone charging pad here shifter for the 8-speed see the parking brick can out hold traditional two-speed transfer case with this no four-wheel Auto got your tow hul and then your ECT power got some storage there the cup holders more in the center console nice trim here on the top you got storage above the glove box with the Tacoma logo pretty big glove box there and then we do have a power sliding rear window with this as well and popping into the frontier I like this trim that goes across and then down below with the arm padding all your window controls blind spawning with the mirrors payload on the frontier 1,00 lb and then by the way the seat is power adjustable on the frontier and also you got a bunch of controls here rear locking differential Hill descent control so kind of out of sight a little bit towhaul mode nice solid sound steering wheel has a rugged look and feel I really like the material use in the front here feels pretty dang premium bunch of practical controls in the front like cruise control and then you can see we've got the center gauge cluster here shows different bits of information on systems within the truck and again all pretty straightforward but you do have analog gauges on either side and then in Reverse we do have a backup camera with trajectory lines that turn with the steering wheel 360 view that's cool if we actually press the camera button it'll pop up with the other viewpoints that's nice um yeah easy enough to use the infotainment system seems like it's pretty quick with the response time if you like physical controls a lot more for the climate down below Dual Zone climate we also have heated seats heated steering wheel parking sensors just like the Tacoma traditional two-speed transfer case shifter for that 9speed got some cup holders Wireless charging pad I like this Trim in the center console it's nice Pro forx here on the front seats it's pretty cool nice trim above the glove box and you got the gold box itself and manual mirr dimmer well Ranger it is we got to put the key in the ignition with the ranger pretty cool um again soft touch here just like the other ones and uh up tops not soft touch all over window controls blind spot monitoring with the mirrors payload on the ranger $560 7 lb quite a bit more uh Power adjustments on the side of the seat got little light controls down there solid sound with the door steering wheel you can see soft touch all around got a bunch of practical controls including adaptive cruise control here with the steering wheel and then we can see the gauge cluster I'd say similar to the Tacoma where it's got some kind of like more analog elements on the side but than the screen in the center to see different bits of info and then you can see in Reverse do have a back of the camera trajectory lines turned with the steering wheel got that that bird's eye view too so 360 kind of like the frontier and then yeah Ford's uh tablet kind of like system pretty easy to use um one of the cool things with this is that you've got some off-road stuff so if we go to the off-road tab notice it'll pull up for the camera so it's like the front trajectory lines I think that's fun you can also access your rear locking differential from here off-road cruise control it's all on that Tab and then notice the climate's always accessible you do have heated seats uh and then there is analog climate control as well they're like doubled up right next to each other and then got little wireless phone charging pad area shifter for that 10-speed parking brake here with the cup holders next to it traditional two-speed transfer case just like the other two and then it's kind of hard to see but we have like our off-road modes kind of here stability control parking assist all that pretty big center console nice trim on the top and these seats are actually pretty nice no fancy logos but nice storage above the glove box and then we've got a pretty normal Glo box and then we do have a power sliding rear window and Colorado so payload on this one 1,516 lb so looks like the Americans just have more payload but anyways you got this like soft touch trim with the stitching all our our window controls blind spot ring with mirrors just a trailer brake controls down below and then here's a quick look at the steering wheel nice trim All Around got the red stitching there um radio controls in the back we've got practical controls here on the front for like cruise control and all that and then you can see with the digital gauge cluster the Colorado has a cool gauge cluster where you can change the uh like font and everything on when I say font I don't mean font I mean like the look rather I don't know where font came into my head but you've got just multiple gauge views kind of adds to the fun anyways 360 camera system out of the trucks this has the best 360 in terms of how easy it is to use so Chevy wins that uh dual zone climate we've got heated seats as well physical controls for that but the light controls in the infotainment system and then you can see with like the window roll down button where phone charging pad now this is the only truck out of the bunch that has four-wheel drive Auto so two-speed transfer case and fourwh auto shifter here for the 8speed with your parking brake you can see with the cup holders nice trim on the center console thing on the dash it's pretty nice then you've got the glove box here uh and then nothing crazy up top just a regular mirror now let's look at prices so Tacoma SR5 46589 as equipped Nissan Frontier Pro 4X 46455 as equipped Ranger XLT 45795 is equipped and then finally Colorado 46455 as equipped now the last thing I want to mention before we sum things up with this video is the towing capacities of all of these trucks we're just going to go over Max towing capacity so starting with the Colorado 7700 lb is where it maxes out Ranger 7500 lb is where it maxes out Nissan Frontier 6690 and then finally the Tacoma Max is out at 6500 lb with that being said I do want to mention that I will have a drive in comparison with all four of these trucks back to back so another reason to subscribe if you haven't subscribed already but let's just quickly summarize today's video so the American trucks have solid towing capacity and payload capacity they're the most capable out of the bunch popping over to the Japanese trucks the reason that these ones are going to be hyped up more is going to come down to reliability right TOA has a trusted name and Nissan has a trusted powertrain with that naturally aspirated V6 and then when it comes to Value I think the range looks like it's the best value because power sliding rear window it's got a 360 camera system it has heated seats it's got all the luxury features that all the other trucks have and off-road stuff and it has the lowest MSRP price and so we'll have to see how things shake up or shake down whatever you want to say with the driving but let me know which of these midsize pickup trucks you would pick
