welcome to the brand new VW amarok now the official launch for the amarok was this weekend and while I was at the dealership I kept on hearing people asking is this really an amarok or is it a Ford with a VW badge on it so because people are asking these questions we'll try and answer them in this review but I'll also show you its practicality its features its cost of ownership and I'll show you all the five models that the new amarok will come in that is the pan Americana cool name ladies and gentlemen let us get started you are currently looking at the top spec Aventura model it comes with a 3 liter V6 turbocharged diesel engine and it produces ignore the pole of evil and it produces 184 kilowatts and 600 newton meters of torque now in terms of pricing it comes in at one million 105 000 Rand but before we talk about its price I first want to show you the other models that are available in the armor range there is the standard amarok simply known as the amarok there is the amarok life there is the style there is the pan Americana and last but not least the Aventura I'm sure you're thinking those pictures aren't very clear don't worry this is what a standard amarok looks like the nicest way I could put it it looks very very plain I mean it even has that fence thing at the back yeah it doesn't look like the other nicer models but inside ah you'll forget all about it cloth seats plastic everywhere but for work this will get the job done one thing that really makes it look awkward is the fact that it doesn't have a side step look at it anyway let's move on to the next model the life one of the things you'll notice is that it has a side step and looks much better than the standard amarok but to avoid confusion I will not go into detail on what features all these models have I'll just quickly show you and focus on the Aventura and the style model A it has cloth seats you have a small digital instrument display and you have a 10 inch infotainment screen which has Apple carplay and Android auto and now we come to the model I really want to talk about the style model I think if you have the money this is the one you should go for you can get it as either a 2 liter by Turbo Diesel with 154 kilowatts and 500 newton meters of torque for 900 000 Rand or you can actually get it with the exact same V6 that is in the panamericana and Aventura for 966 000 Rand so for the exact same performance you save 139 000 Rand so if you don't mind the looks and you want that V6 engine this one is the one to go for in fact even when it comes to the interior they're really more or less the same thing I love what they did with the style model looks good you have your side step over there and it also comes with this beautiful Savona leather seats the same leather seats you get in the Aventura now the eye electrically adjustable and the front seats are heated well done VW well done you also get push to start technology and you get this clear full complete digital instrument display it shows you a whole range of information you can see your all status Towing status you can also have a look at your driving mode so there is Eco wait for it there is the toe slash hole mode for when you want to tow the slippery for when it's raining and there is mud and after mud there is snow so just like the Ford Ranger it has different driving modes which are always welcome as they help make this a more capable bakkie now before I forget you also have a reversing camera with parking sensors as well and you'll definitely need them because this new armor is very long speaking of long on the style model and above you get this 12 inch touchscreen it has Wireless Apple carplay and Android auto and one thing the panamerican and Aventura have that other models don't is an 8-speaker Harman Kardon sound system but before we move on to the back seats obviously this interior is similar to the one you get in the Ford Ranger but VW did put some nice touches here and there as you can see they changed the knobs they put in some wood elements so they took what was there and did their best to make it feel slightly more premium than what you'd get in the Ford Ranger and I commend them for the effort I mean if we compare this to the outgoing amarok this is a huge Improvement because that interior was old and tired so I'm actually happy they partnered with Ford on this one because this interior is a step above let us take a quick peek at the back seats you have the leather seats obviously you have a center armrest but one thing you'll notice is that there's slightly more room in this version of the amarok than in the outgoing model which is always welcome you have isofix points for child safety but one thing children at the back will not like while they might have events there are no USB ports low USB type A no USB type c instead you have that 12 volt socket I'm not sure why they did that maybe there is a reason but in terms of leg room your knees will be fine but underneath as you know with buck is it's a bit tight let's take a quick look at the load bed of our style model there isn't really much to see here to be honest so later I'll show you the Aventura see it's blanked off nothing to connect here no plugs there are lights but that's pretty much it but the star model does get that Chrome styling bar I had the opportunity to drive the 2 liter by turbo diesel engine for for motion of course and as you know it is the same engine that you get in the Ford Ranger it has the same 10-speed gearbox it has the same number of kilowatts 154 and 500 newton meters of torque so this raises the question how does it drive does it drive like a Ford Ranger yes yes it does it feels exactly the same to me but I did notice the suspension it's much smoother softer more comfortable the ride it's very nice VW did something there but in terms of the engine the gearbox it's the same there is really no difference to be honest and some people are offended by this because they want to pretend this amarok is not a Ford Ranger and I don't know why this car is made in the same plant that they make Ford Rangers here in South Africa in Silverton it is not coming off of VW production assembly it's coming off a Ford Ranger production assembly and to be honest with you there is absolutely nothing wrong with that it's not like Ford is a brand that doesn't know how to build bakkies they have been doing this for years people love Ford Rangers so VW chose to partner with them for a reason they could have built their own amarok again but they chose to go with Ford they could have partnered with any other brand but they chose to go with Ford that is just business so if you buy your VW amarok and your friends come laughing at you saying I'm a ranger or it's a Ford Ranger or anything along those lines just tell them so what it's your money at the end of the day if an amarok is what you want buy yourself an amarok don't stress but let's get back to our review you get Lane keep assist you have a tire pressure monitor and you also have autonomous emergency braking on the style model the panamerican and Aventura models add blind spot monitoring fatigue detection evasive steering and adaptive cruise control system with a stop and go function rear cross alert a parking assistant and you also have an all-around 360 degree view camera and if you're wondering which is cheaper between a ranger and an amarok the amarok prices are slightly higher in most cases for example the V6 wild track is 953 500 Rand and then the V6 VW amarok style is 966 000 Rand but remember it comes with a maintenance plan and the Ford Ranger doesn't in terms of performance it's the same engine 184 kilowatts 600 newton meters of torque so it really just right thing to do which brings us back to the top spec of Ventura model it has a power roller shutter which you can open from your key that looks very nice and premium by the way guys there are no optional extras on any of these models some models offer the option of a comfort pack which gives you bigger wheels or a roller shutter for example in the case of a pan-americana but otherwise no optional extras you buy the car as it is so I've shown you the back of the amarok now let me show you the front I know there's always someone who wants to see what the engine looks like the Aventura model only comes with the V6 engine I know someone is looking for the word Ford somewhere there or VW somewhere there good luck finding it but that's your V6 engine and for those of you who've been doubting when I said the style model and the top spec model have more or less the same interior here's the interior the reason I use the style for the video is because this car had been sold so everything was off there wasn't much to show you but I can assure you the infotainment system the seeds and pretty much everything you'll see is exactly the same as what I've shown you earlier so even though I showed you the style model more than the Aventura this is still an Aventura review it's the same story with the back seats very similar very identical that's why I said if you don't mind the looks just buy yourself a style model save the money because it's more or less the same thing just some extra nice features here and there and better looks and speaking of looks it looks like it's time to talk about prices by the way the top spec of Ventura and pan Americana come with Matrix LED headlights as you can see they look really good one million 105 000 Rand that is how much you'll have to pay for your 3 liter V6 amarok Aventura on finance that is 21 033 Rand at 11 interest over 72 months at the current diesel price a full tank will cost you 1 901 Rand and if you get an insurance premium of 4 000 Rand it would bring your total cost of ownership to 26 934 Rand out of all the amarok models this is the one I'm most concerned but because in terms of pricing it's more expensive than the Ford Ranger Raptor by 10 100 Rand and while I love this top spec Aventura model in terms of power it has 184 kilowatts and the Raptor has 292 kilowatts so no matter how you look at it I don't understand the pricing but VW knows their Market there are people who don't like the big size of the Raptor they want something like this 21 inch wheels looks clean looks Posh looks modern looks fancy looks bougie so those people will come and buy this over the Raptor and there's nothing wrong with that it's their money at the end of the day but unlike the Ford the VW comes with a five-year 100 000 kilometer maintenance plan thank you VW and a four-year 120 000 kilometer warranty and you've been watching the 16 000 subscriber special I just wanted to say thank you guys the
