2023 Classroom Set Up Vlog Part 1

I feel like I'm starting from scratch let me show you the current situation and then I will start moving things when you walk in the door this is what you see no furniture until bam it is all over here this is from when they waxed the floors and cleaned the carpet they had to put it all in one area at a time this just means today is going to be a physical classroom reset day these are back where they need to be but this big desk goes right next to it in this space but I can't move that on my own without scratching this beautiful freshly waxed tile so I've gotta wait for that but this is done for now these are back where they need to be this is like materials for each of the tables and then some other Cubbies so I absolutely just realized I've not been listening to speak now Taylor's version for the entire 20 minutes that I've been in here which is making me question every life decision I've ever made so I'm going to turn that on now unfortunately you will not be able to hear it but you can turn it on on your own phone or computer and we can have a listening party together so let's do that now [Music] this is what we're working with now I have my tables and four groups so I pair two together here two together here and then I do one on its own one on its own that desk is going over here but I'll scratch the floor if I move it by myself here's the current situation it's feeling good feeling familiar now I still got a bunch of other things to figure out where they belong [Music] if I thought I walked in here to a blank slate I have made it more of a blank slate let me show you what this whole section looks like now the sound wall is completely down no more okay well not no more I'm just changing the background color to be the same green teal color that's up there and that's back here I just the yellow was not it for me I don't know I just want to change but I also want to make it longer on the wall so like start it maybe here and go all the way to the wall I feel or to the closet door I feel like that's gonna make my room feel bigger I think the size of this made my room feel smaller that's what we're working with let me show you how big this wall is but it didn't feel that way with the size of the yellow paper I don't know if other people understand that in the way I do but it just it makes sense in my head like this wall is so big but the sound wall probably was only like in between my fingers there let's see if it will focus on my fingers like it was only probably from there to there when I think if I have paper going down the whole length of the wall when you walk in the room I think your eyes will just go all the way back rather than it being choppy we're gonna try it out and I'll see if I like it or not I'm not setting the new sound wall up today though that'll be a project for a different day um I need more hands than just these two for that so I'm gonna recruit my sisters or my mom to come help me with that project I'm gonna take a moment just to look around my room and think about what else I can slash want to do today I love coming in on just random summer days because I don't feel the pressure to stay all day and get everything done that's needed I can just do what I want to do and not feel like I have to do anything so let's just take a look around and figure out what I can do next when I look in that corner nothing really rings a bell that I could do I could take down that yellow paper since I'm changing everything to the greenish blue color but I don't want to do that that'll be an easy job for another day nothing there I can't move this desk to over there yet so that has to wait um I could put these book these black boxes are their book bins I could put those on top of these Cubbies but that's just going to add clutter right now when I just like a blank slate I could move this white table and the standing desk to where it will belong but then it will block the easiest path to get this desk over so I'm not going to do that over here that black curtain needs to be hung up but again that's gonna need a ladder and I don't want to do that today so that will happen another day and then the big task that I've got to tackle this summer is organizing this library and I have more books in my parents basement that I can bring in this this past library was just a complete free-for-all not a free-for-all in the sense that the kids just tore through books they respected the books but it wasn't organized by topic or genre I also hope to put a system in place for the kids to put the books back where they belong so if you have any advice for that comment it below what library system works for you we're talking about first graders and they're very capable I I fully believe first graders are capable of being organized because I've seen it myself I know stickers work well at like putting like the clip art on a sticker that's on the basket so I might do that but if you have a different way to organize let me know I will take any advice for this because it's just a lot and I'm sure there are projects in your classroom that just feel like a lot to you too comment ideas for Library organization below this is what we're working with they're just all in bins like this and I have more books in my parents basement that I can that I'm going to bring to school school but I just haven't and I have more books at home so that's what we're working with I've got like leveled readers over here but they started the year organized by level and they're not anymore then it works its way to chapter books these are books that I well it started the year these were books that I just wanted to have as read aloud books to the students and I didn't want to have on the shelves for them to just read whenever but now it's jumbled up and I have to organize that too so we'll see what system I do here I keep whatever like the current read aloud theme is on this show that changes periodically I'm also gonna have to get new books for my library because currently there are not enough baskets for picture books that I can organize by topic I use these for their book bins they just sit right on top of their Cubbies and they have their number on it then they can put books in it that they want to read and then they change them out in the library I have about eight extra of these that I could use as ends for my library but I don't know how well they will work and they can't really hold that many books but that's an option I want to show you two things that I got from Target recently that I'm loving one is a functional thing for Teacher productivity and the other is for a classroom organization this planner has everything that I would want it to have on it it's from the brand UB which is a Target brand but it has a goals section don't forget a to-do but it's like a reasonable size checklist for a to-do list notes and doodles and then that says for tomorrow which I'll typically like but for now it doesn't make sense so this notepad is something I am very excited about and there are so many pages like this is just my perfect organizational notepad and then the second thing are these pencil baskets that have lids on them of course I've seen these before but not with the lids and well with one hand this is awkward but I just love this my camera died so just charged it and I cleaned the top of my Cubbies as it was charging I can't decide where to put this shell so this shelf typically has my turning trays on top of it and last year it kind of like loaded a little bit out and I liked this location of my classroom for it but I can't decide where to put it I don't think I want it floating this year and I don't like it right there because I'm probably going to need to use that cubby and that cubby like the hooks at the end so this isn't the ideal location don't know where I'm gonna put that and I also don't know where I'm gonna put this thing this is really fun and I like for it to jut out but I don't know if I'll be able to have it do that because just space and flow of traffic are really important but it's hard to figure out the best way to do things or the best layout I should say um I just had some kind of miscellaneous thing on the other side of it but the kids like to use it as like a market or a restaurant or things like that during recess so I don't know don't know where this is going to go but you'll find out in one of my future videos I'll give you an overview of my classroom from this corner I haven't shown you from this angle yet over here just kind of have teacher stuff and kidney table so I use this for small groups and put chairs around it their Cubbies go along this wall and recess toys go here student desks and slash tables go where the tile is and they come a little bit onto the carpet and then I have a standing desk that goes over there that I have my laptop and things to control this smart TV from and then I also put a different table over here for my assistant teacher to sit out and do small groups with students so that goes over there so again here's the view of the room things can't be exactly where they belong because this needs help to go over there I can't do that on my own and then in this corner I have a big carpet space with my rocking chair that goes over there Library calendar all the good stuff so that's the current situation of what we're working with here I made pretty good progress today considering everything used to just be on the carpet still have a long way to go but that's okay here's my classroom from the door view you can see how my tables are out and then I'll have one table there one table over there and then this whole mess is still like this so we made progress could have made more but it's a summer day and I don't have to be here so this is great progress I think are you allowed to work in your classroom over the summer I'm so grateful I get to but I know not every school gets to and I know not all teachers want to I feel good with the progress I made today and I look forward to filming day two of my classroom setup that you'll see next let me
