hey guys brian here again and you either got yourself a new rav4 hybrid or you're in the market and you're curious about what all these buttons do if that's the case then this video is for you we're gonna go over every single button in the car and we're gonna do it at a quick pace so that we get to cover everything i tend to go left to right don't forget you can change the video speed on the little gear symbol on your youtube app or you can just use the pause button so let's begin so on all new toyotas you have auto down and auto up windows all around with a simple hard push or a hard pull it'll actually be a hands-free window setup the button next to it's going to be the window lock with a little green led to signify that it's on then i have the lock and unlock for the doors you'll notice that there are two little nubbies on the lock which is going to be similar to on your key fob so that you can actually do it without looking down if i push the l i can actually toggle the left mirror if i push it over to the r i can toggle the right mirror and in the center is going to be a neutral position so that if i push this toggler it doesn't adjust anything on the electronic driver's seat i have forward and back up and down i can even twist the recliner and lumbar support for the lower back down below there is a locking floor mat for the driver's side only by twisting and turning this lock i can pull the driver mat out of position don't forget you want to lock it back into place signified by these two arrows working our way up i have the illuminated button for the gas cap which is a locking gas cap on the driver's side you have to be in park to open it up and the lever for the hood release moving on to the steering wheel there's a pull down lever where if i pull this down i can telescope and i can raise it up and down above that i have the control for the brightness to the gauges with a locking position it also controls the brightness to the interior buttons the automatic high beams which will only be powered when the headlights are on auto the defrosting wiper blades which will melt the ice off of my front wipers and the heated steering wheel right there the last button over here is going to activate the power liftgate which is height adjustable by pushing and holding you'll hear a beep and i can even stop it short and then push and hold to close and speaking of the liftgate in the key fob this is what our rav4 key fob looks like of course i can operate it with the lock and unlock button and those are the two little nubbies that i mentioned however by keeping this fob with me i can simply lock the door by doing this or i can unlock the whole car by grabbing the door handle if the battery on the fob dies there's a little lever here that i can pull to the side to take out the slide out key with this slide out key i can get through the driver's side door and i can still start the car by pushing this against the push start button on the right side of the steering wheel as long as the key fob is on me or somewhere in the car i can start it by simply pushing the brake and pushing the push start button [Music] on the left side of the steering wheel i have a couple different positions for the lights i have daytime runner lights off which will have no lights at all automatic which will give me daytime runner lights during the day and then kick in all of the interior and tail lights at night time this also activates those automatic high beams i can bypass the automatic high beams by pushing the stock forward and it'll give you regular high beams parking lights for when i want the interior buttons to be lit up but i don't want bright lights coming out of the front and then the old school way which is going to be the regular turndial fashion for manually winding up those headlights on to the right stock i have a couple different modes here if i click it down once it'll go into auto mode which are the rain sensing wipers available with the se weather grade package i can change the sensitivity if i click it down again it'll be low but if i click it down a third time it'll be high for the really bad rain this part of the knob is actually going to control the rear wiper so i can click it forward one time for intermittent which is once in a while or click it again for on which is constantly back and forth for the rear wiper moving on to the top if i pull this stock towards me it will wash the front window if i push it away it's going to wash the back window on the cluster i have a knob here that i can push and if i push this it's going to go through my odometer and if i push and hold it'll clear the trip as you can see on the bottom of the mid screen back to odometer simply by pushing in the sock the arrows here on the left are going to operate the mid screen and i can also select by hitting okay or hit back by hitting the back button next to that i have a button for hanging up and answering phone calls this will also prompt me to connect a phone to bluetooth i can change the volume to the calls or the radio here with my thumb and do voice commands the great thing about voice commands button is that when i'm connected to apple carplay if i press and hold this button the siri orb will pop up on the screen and i can run through siri but if i push it quickly it's going to do the toyota interface onto the right side of the steering wheel i have my cruise control and a couple buttons for the music with lane departure alert to set the cruise control i push this button once and it's going to say radar ready on the mid if i push and hold this button it's going to go into constant speed cruise control and the symbol on the mid is going to have no little car there and the arrow is actually going to be on the left side but once i set the cruise control i just push the button and hit set like that and i can change the speed by going up or down like so to cancel the cruise control i just hit the brake or i hit the cancel button right in the center when i'm in cruise control i can set between three different sensitivity distances or some people call following distances with the button right over here that's the little car with the wavelengths so you can change how close the car follows down below i have the lane departure alert which is actually going to alert me when i'm going out of my lane and try to steer me back in if i have the steering assist active underneath those i can shuffle through my songs or i can change my audio mode from am fm bluetooth to sirius radio if i press and hold this will also pause and mute the music on the left of the cluster i have what would be the rpms it's going to give me a representation of how the vehicle is driving this is an ecvt so you don't actually have gears but it's going to give me an idea if it's charging if i'm driving economically or if i'm in power of course i have a couple different drive modes which we will get into like i mentioned you can tell the car is on because it says it's ready in green you're not going to be listening for the engine down below i have the engine temperature and bsm just means that blind spot monitor is on that's going to have an orange light in the mirror that lights solid orange when somebody's in the blind spot right in the corner here and then if you signal to go into that lane it's going to strobe but it's not going to beep on the right side i have an analog view of my speed it tells me i'm in park and my seat belt is not on and my fuel level and if you look really close you'll see there's a little arrow next to the fuel symbol that means that my gas cap is on the left up above you'll see that the headlights are on the automatic high beams are functioning i am in ev mode which means i pressed the button by the shifter to keep the engine off as much as possible which we will get into and the little car that says ev is just a quick representation to let me know if the engine is actually on or not so when the ev car symbol right here is lit up it means the engine is actually off and i'm technically an electric vehicle it says eco and there's a green shadow here because i'm in eco mode but by turning the dial near the shifter i can turn into sport push it down from normal or turn it counterclockwise into eco that dial is right over here we'll discuss that a little bit more soon underneath that it'll show the outside temperature my time which i can set on the infotainment system that i'm in park this also show reverse every gear i'm in or even if i'm in shift mode and the total miles now the center of the mid can be changed with those arrows i mentioned on the steering wheel so by pushing side to side here there's a couple different menus so i'll go back to the leaf menu which you'll see lights up i can go up and down as well to see different things about my driving my economy and back to the digital speed if i go over again i have the compass screen which is going to basically show me what some of the safety sense systems are doing and once i'm active in the cruise control i have some more information there audio if i want to see the song playing or the artist more vehicle information about my trip distance and i can go down i can see the all-wheel drive control which is right down here individual tire pressure and an abbreviated version of what's actually on my screen here that's my energy monitor that's going to show me how the hybrid system is working back down to the all-wheel drive control there will be little bars to show you a graph of how much power each wheel is getting which is really cool if i go over again here are some settings there are some advanced settings here so back to the top if i press the ok button it doesn't do anything but if i press and hold i can do lane center on and off i can change steering assist which will steer me back in my lane on and off i can make it more sensitive i can turn the sway warning on and off which will actually alert me if i'm sleepy the car has a recognition for sleepy patterns and the sway sensitivity pressing the back button i go back here to the main menu pre-collision system if i press and hold okay just two settings here on or off insensitivity blind spot monitor is going to be on and off rear cross traffic alert will beep at you three times in a row to let you know when you're in reverse it senses movement road sign assist is going to read certain road signs and show them on the screen and in vehicle settings if i press and hold ok i have my height adjustment and if i go to open adjustment i can change between five different openings and then i just press ok and then back i can set pressure and change the wheels right here from the car all new toyotas will remind you to check your rear seat to see if you have any animals or kids back there you can turn that reminder off but i suggest you leave it on if you have kids and you can alter your scheduled maintenance all from the mid and mid stands for multi-information display which shows you a lot of different information that's important to the car our last menu is the little warning symbol that will light up orange and stay lit up and it'll go orange and go down to the bottom or onto the top to remind you if there's time for service if it senses anything is wrong etc and back over to the digital speed so that was a comprehensive breakdown of the mid the multi-information display and the speedo cluster let's move on to the buttons by the shifter okay so buttons by the shifter let's start with the shifter you have to push the brake to take it out of park it's an overhand grip down one for reverse my reverse cameras here which i can alter a couple things i can change it between a peripheral view which i have a slight distortion but let me see more on the side and go back to normal view i can even change the grid lines here if i need to be neutral i click it down once here and down to drive which is where i'm going to spend most of my time when i'm in drive i can turn this over to the side and i can shift through simulated gears down or forward which i'll see on the mid on the bottom left it's going to simulate where the gears would be to give me more control of those rpms to go back into drive i can do this while moving i just go over like that when i put it in park the automatic parking brake will apply on its own and i can take my foot off the brake and i know that that parking brake is on also because on the cluster it says park right over here the break hold feature actually lets you come to a stop while you're in drive and take your photo off the brake you have to be buckled up for it but when i push this it's going to say not available because i'm not buckled up so if i buckle up and i push this i'm going to get a little green symbol that symbol is going to be above your fuel level right here when i put it in drive i'll see it say hold in gold when you see the gold you can actually take your foot off the brake and you're in drive and it goes nowhere it only works in drive not reverse just so that you know this is good for the drive-through it's good for city driving don't forget to put it back in park and to turn it off you just push the button again i have different drive modes like i mentioned so if i turn this forward counter clockwise like this it's going to light up red if i turn it counterclockwise it lights up green the red means sport mode which you'll see it says sport on the top by the eevee car if i turn it counterclockwise it goes to eco eco is going to be more reserved driving sport's going to be a little bit more power if i push it down the colors go away and i'm in normal mode which is a blend between the two so you can change these while driving it will alter the way the car feels you'll be more depowered and get more economy in eco mode you'll be more powered and lose a couple mpgs with sport normal is going to be a blend and like mentioned when the battery is charged over 75 that hybrid battery behind the back seat there or under the back seat i can turn it on or off so i just turned it off and the engine kicked on and as you can see the energy monitor is showing that the engine is on and now it's powering to reboost the battery since it's charged enough i can turn ev mode back on oh just said it's unavailable so we're on the threshold here i wonder if i go into eco mode nope so right now it needs to boost itself back up that's the great thing about the hybrid is it does what it needs to do you can play with it but once it's time to do something crucial it overrides your ability and does what it has to do so we just discussed altering and changing the hybrid system to enjoy your drive a little bit differently the shifting the parking brake let's move our way up to the climate control on the climate control you'll notice these two very large knobs they were made this way to be able to be used with gloves the right one will actually change the passenger's temperature and the left one can change the drivers to synchronize them i push sync and now i can control everything as a whole the fan speed is right below the symbol here for more or less fan and the air direction is right next to that so notice how everything is next to its button which is nice ac and recirculate are right near each other for the hot days and if i only want to power the front i can kick off that back climate to further boost the economy of the car and speaking of economy there's actually an eco heat and cool so when i'm in eco drive mode or normal mode i can put eco heat and cool that's going to really squeeze the economy of the car and get a couple extra miles per gallon it's going to be a little bit more modest the heat's not going to be a sharp hot the ac is not going to be a freezing cold but it's great for the fall and the [Music] spring front and rear defrost are right next to each other that makes sense and if i push auto it's actually going to work like your climate control if you have central air to turn the system off the off button is over here and to turn it back on i can just resume like that down below i have the heated seats two different levels i have low neutral which is off and high on both sides and then next to that there's a button to turn off the traction control when you turn the car off the traction control will turn back on the only time i'd really want to turn off the traction control is if i parked and i got a lot of snow so i need full power to the wheels or if i'm going on a gravel trail and i don't want the car kicking the power out of the wheels i want to allow for a little bit of that wheel slip so we did all the buttons by the shifter we did everything on the climate control we have worked the steering wheel and the mid what we're going to do is we're going to skip the screen we're going to go up top to these buttons and then finish up with the screen on the 2022 hybrid rav4 se i still have a traditional flip style mirror for the night time but let me turn these on so i can see a little better actually that's not really going to help i have my sunglass case here sorry for the lighting guys it's a little tough with the black interior the sunroof buttons don't light up so you'll have to memorize what these are but i can open the sunroof by pushing and holding once the sunroof is open there's a little bit more and then it's a one touch to close [Music] if i want to ventilate i can push up which is not one touch and then close or down do check your weather ahead of time so you don't get right inside of the car there's a glass door here that i have to open up for the sos system that's your safety connect you get free safety connect on all new toyotas for the first year unlimited miles which will send a signal out if you get in a crash and you can push this to get help the led lights are powered individually or i can turn them all on like this which will even turn on the rear lights and then i can also set those lights to come on with the door or not and that's everything i have up here for the sun shade i have these sliding out piece of plastic for when the sun is on the side and then also another led for the mirror light so it's fully equipped with leds and do keep in mind this is a rav4 hybrid sc with all three packages which are the weather grade package with heated seats heated steering wheel and heated wiper blades with the rain sensing wipers the convenience package which gets you the moon roof and the height adjustable lift gate and the audio plus package which is going to give you your upgraded stereo system and your nine inch screen so just keep that in mind so if you're looking at other rav4 sc hybrids they may not have all three packages but this one does so this has all the buttons that this car would have let's finish up with the screen and then we'll be done with the tutorial so we have a screen with eight hard buttons four on each side and two round knobs everything else is going to be touch screen and don't forget right below your screen is one of the most important buttons your flashers the first knob here is going to be a power button and volume for the radio system the knob on the right is only a tune and scroll for the radio i have my home screen menu audio and map which are going to be the four more important buttons than on the right side that's why they're here which we'll get into and then i have seek and track for the music phone which will actually do what this button does so there's a little bit of a redundancy that's why they put that on the right but i think they put it on the right so that it's accessible for the passenger as well in case they need to operate something while you're driving and focusing and then apps which we'll do an update and we'll save that for the end when i push the home screen i can see different information all at once and when i tap something it's actually going to take over the whole entire screen now when i push the menu button it's going to have a bunch of different little apps or widgets whatever you want to call them everything is interwebbed so audio is the same thing as the audio button here excuse that phone is going to be the same button as just doing a little software update sorry about that guys there we go so phone is going to be the same button as this which is going to be the same button as this when i push apps it's going to be the same thing as apps here see so everything is interweb so it's really hard to get lost projection is going to prompt me to do my apple car play or the android auto info is where i can see more information about my economy which gets me to the energy monitor i can even see some history about my fuel economy i can clear and update it or i can go back to the energy monitor right here when i hit map it's going to say navigation app is not installed toyota used to use scout gps link now it's all projection through apple carplay and android auto i'd love to hear what you thought if you use scout gps before if you liked it i'll leave my opinion under the table but back to menu so a couple things one you can tell what screen you're in because on the top left it tells you so notice when i'm at home it says home right there if i'm in menu it says menu another reason that you don't have to worry about getting lost but two the menu is a great place because down here if i hit display i can turn the screen off and still listen to music and not have that bright screen in my face when i combine that with dimming down those interior lights with this little scroller here it makes for a more comfortable ride when those lights bother my eyes i can push any button to activate the screen again when i go to display i can do day mode on and off if i want to but it'll do it automatically on its own for you and i can adjust my brightness and my contrast also in my menu setup is another place i'm going to go because that's where i change my clock which has daylight savings time right here we're going to use that in a couple days i can even customize my home screen and change the language i can change the layout to the home screen right here which is great back button's right there my language is right there projection settings i can turn the beep on and off which is great and i can change the way this whole entire screen looks so say i like it a little bit more red down below are some more advanced settings here that i wouldn't be concerned about that's more for the technicians but on the very bottom of this hall menu is going to be your software update so you can check for software updates right there then there's a separate menu on this side i'm going to change things back to blue because it's a little bit easier for me to see there we go so back in setup we have the different menu down here if i go to voice i can train it to recognize my voice there are some more advanced voice command settings here for people that are very into the audio technology most people are only using it at an entry level but if i go down to here and i go to vehicle i can change some really interesting stuff when i hit customization i can change the door lock settings so that when i put it into drive the doors lock or unlock if i put it into park i can control if they lock or unlock now most cars from the factory when you put in a drive the doors lock when you put it back in the park the doors unlock i happen to not like that the doors unlock so you can change that by going to automatic door unlock and you can turn that right off there or you can even change the door you can even change which doors are going to open with that key fob and i can change the auto relock timer right over here so these are some great settings that you will enjoy onto the light settings the sensitivity i recommend leaving but you can change that say you're driving at dawn and dusk and you need it to go on or off at a certain sensitivity level the headlights will stay on for 30 seconds from the factory to light up the driveway so you can see exactly what you're doing where you're walking et cetera you can have them stay on longer or not stay on at all of course you hit the lock button two times to kill the headlights the interior light timer you can actually have stay on longer for when you turn the car off so now that's down for 30 seconds then there's some advanced stuff here for the technicians climate settings ac mode the auto ac mode is going to be just like i mentioned with the uh the house thermostat this is for when i activate the wi-fi trial and then like i said everything interwebs so this is some more information about my apps and speaking of apps there's only a couple apps here like i said when the car has the things you know the connected services that are available they show on apps so this happens to be available with wi-fi notifications and remote connect remote connect based on what system you have is going to be a trial and then after your trial is up you have to pay a monthly subscription which i believe toyota took away the yearly option monthly subscription to have that starter from the app and the fob but back to menu back to setup those are the basic things that you're gonna do here of course you know there are some different advanced audio settings i gotta be connected to bluetooth for that one this one as well i'm not going to go over the advanced stuff because most people are not concerned with those these are going to be the more important things when i go to audio these are my different sources and the usb plug that i'm going to use is going to be right below the climate control which is going to be for music and also for the projection like apple carplay and android auto we did go over the buttons on the right we went over the buttons on the left just the last reminder the home screen alter it the way you want so it doesn't have to be the way it was from the factory if you want the audio on the top left here you can put it there by going to menu setup and you go to customize home screen see you can change that say you're not really concerned with the energy monitor and you want something else you can take that off completely but when you're in the phone menu connected to bluetooth favorites is no longer important because with the phone widget on your home screen there's going to be four little slots where you can set four people that you talk to a lot and now they're one tap away from a phone call so it would make it more redundant to hit the phone menu and then find the favorites and then hit the favorite that's three clicks with this it's one click and it starts the phone call the old school way was phone favorites menu the person which number you want to call and call so that's three to five clicks now they're one click away so there it is that was the fast tutorial button on the 2022 rav4 hybrid se i hope the video helped you if there's something that i missed that you wanted me to cover a little bit more in depth please let me know and if you're new to hybrids be sure to check out my crash course hybris video and if you're specifically targeting the hybrid se rav4 don't forget to check out my review of this awesome car until the next video i will see you in the comments thanks again for your support have a nice night peace
