[Music] [Applause] [Music] for weeks now i've rigorously tested six video doorbells that i would consider buying in 2021 i rated them in 11 different categories to help you figure out which one is the best for you i was actually surprised by some of the results when comparing them next to each other some of these doorbells have some interesting features and weird quirks i'll go through them quickly but if you want even more info then check out the article linked below starting off first with the wise doorbell which is the least expensive out of the group it has a three to four aspect ratio that means you can see more up and down compared to side to side it's good for seeing packages on the ground but makes the field of view side to side limited since a video aspect ratio is like this it shows up sideways on echo show so be aware of that it also has a light on the front that can help with the night vision i would definitely keep the infrared turned on though if you want to see someone at a short distance the two-way voice is clear but slightly quiet you either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become a villain there are also some quick responses you can choose from which are handy so far so great when it comes to the price but when you look at notifications it's a different story motion notifications take forever to show up the person detection for cam plus is slowing it down but at least it has an image preview doorbell notifications show up quickly but if the app is not opened in the background it doesn't go straight to the live view this is a major inconvenience when trying to see who's there if the app is opened in the background it loads up quickly even while on data and not wi-fi scrubbing through the footage is very choppy and the worst out of all the video doorbells i tried if you pay the monthly fee for cam plus you get person detection which did not get tricked by my fake bird test you can also create a motion zone to avoid false notifications as well there's a 14 day history of free cloud storage but it's severely limited if you're not paying for cam plus with this and their notification issues it's difficult to recommend this doorbell i wish wise would have included an sd card slot and had 24 7 recording like their cameras that would have been a game changer next is the unifi g4 doorbell it's unique because it can record 24 7 to a hard drive in your house so you don't miss anything it's very reliable since you don't need the cloud and there are no monthly fees but it comes at a cost since you need extra hardware like a dream machine pro for it to work the video quality was really good because it has hdr so you can still see what's on the street and in the shadows as well compare that with wise which does not have hdr and you can see the difference if you don't like the way the image looks on this g4 doorbell you can customize it exactly how you want it like boost the brightness if it's a little too dark for you it's the only video doorbell i've tested with this kind of image customization night vision on the other hand is not great almost no detail on my face which is a bummer the viewing angle is very wide though basically the same as wise going up and down but then you get all that extra on the side scrolling through the timeline is very smooth with the motion events included on there as well making it very user friendly even though there are no monthly fees it still has person detection with multiple zones that are highly customizable i appreciate that i tested the person detection with my fake bird and also baby yoda i mean grogu i actually did this test on all the video doorbells and i asked you guys on instagram if you think he would trigger a person notification despite your high hopes for this little guy to be viewed as a human none of the video doorbells fell for this false notification that's great for accuracy but sad for groku on the unified doorbell the problem with notifications is no image preview but the notifications show up quickly and it loads the live view really fast on data there was a slight delay but it was still pretty good two-way voice is the weakest part of this doorbell there's also a major audio delay when trying to talk to someone the two-way voice is almost unusable this doorbell has a few unique features though one is a light on the bottom that helps you see when it's dark outside the other is this little screen on the front instead of audio quick replies unifi does it with a display it can be easy to miss compared to audio replies so i wish it had both even though this doorbell uses wi-fi it still requires unifi protect to run on separate hardware like a dream machine pro so it's not for everyone ring pro 2 is up next and there have been some improvements over the last version any issues brought up with the first ring pro have been fixed in this one first is hdr which will help highlights and shadows be more visible during the day i would say it looks slightly better than unified's hdr the camera lens also has a much wider viewing angle for both the width and height you can easily see packages on the ground and someone standing up close on the side the problem is that when viewing it on an echo show it's so small and zoomed out it also claims to have color night vision yes there's some color in the background i guess but it's a very clear image so i'll give him that motion recording did a good job capturing me as i walked up to it since it has pre-roll the two-way voice has been improved drastically you either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain it's loud clear and in my opinion the best out of all these video doorbells which is impressive because the ring pro one was the worst at two-way voice they also have the scene called 3d motion detection it's supposed to help it make it more accurate using a satellite image of your front yard that way it knows if a person's in the street or your front porch but my house was just built so for the satellite image it just showed up as a dirt field so i don't know if it works or if it's a gimmick there's still person detection with customizable zones it seemed to work well to avoid false motion notifications the notifications show up quickly and include an image preview now the live feed loads up fast and there is only about a one second delay which isn't bad they have a feature called smart responses but it's more frustrating than helpful these responses will always play if the doorbell is pressed and not answered on your phone alexa greetings seem like a cool idea i would love for my assistant to answer the door for me the problem is it's slow it doesn't understand the person at the door and it just ends up being annoying just like the other ring doorbells there's a monthly fee for video recordings but scrubbing through the recordings is fast and smooth it's highly compatible with other smart home systems like smart things and it's just easier to use than something like unify natal is next with their doorbell i covered way back at ces 2019 what makes this unique is the storage options you can record to the onboard microsd card you can also upload to your own ftp server or dropbox homekit secure video is supposed to be coming soon and that way you're in more control over your data image quality is good with a very similar viewing angle is wise it's a little bit narrower than yzo night vision is okay and better than unifies doorbell but not as good as wise with that extra light on theirs natamo has person detection that works well and you can create multiple zones when it comes to motion notifications this doorbell was slow and inconsistent you cannot adjust motion sensitivity so some updates could help improve this the doorbell press notification shows up quickly and the live view is fast at loading plus it's had almost no delay in video or audio with a live view definitely the fastest doorbell when it comes to latency on wi-fi two-way voice was loud and clear you either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain but there were a few other issues on data it was slightly slower than the others the doorbell was also slow to start recording after it detected motion also the doorbell does not make a noise when pressed so it's difficult to know if it was actually pressed this doorbell is ideally for those with homekit who want more control over their data okay these next two doorbells are favorites i've shown before but i wanted to see how they hold up a year later and if there's been any updates or improvements nest hello has been around for a while and it's still not a bad option it's hardly showing its age the viewing angle is plenty wide and you can see a lot head to toe very similar to the unified g4 doorbell they actually have a lot in common and i'll get to that in a second nest hello has hdr which does a great job showing my face in the shadows plus what's going on in front of the house when comparing it with unifies hdr they're very similar i would give the edge to nest though not by much looking at it next to the ring pro 2 it's also a close call this time i would say rings hdr is better than ness when it comes to night vision the nest hello is not that good the ring pro 2 shows a lot more details in my face compared to nest using the nest app is very similar to unifies you can quickly scrub through the 24 7 footage and find events it's very smooth and easy to use notifications are great because not only do they show an image preview but a few extra frames as well the doorbell notification shows up quickly and pulls up the live view right away there is very little latency the two-way voice also works well you either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain person detection is really good since you can create multiple zones for people or packages as for smart home compatibility smartthings and nest announced they were going to work together but trying to add the nest doorbell to smartthings did not work for me hopefully this works soon but it still works really well with their nest displays they can announce who is at the door if it recognizes the face which is pretty sweet and i'll explain at the end if it's still worth getting the next hello finally there's the yuffie 2k battery doorbell last time i did this video the yuffie doorbell was my favorite and what i continued to use until i moved if you're not familiar with this doorbell what makes it great is the high-end features like person and zone detection with no monthly fees plus the footage is written to the base station so if your internet goes down you won't miss any footage it even has 2k video resolution which looks good but when you compare it to some of the others i might prefer hdr over the higher resolution yuffie has wdr which if turned on will boost the brightness automatically to expose my face in the shadows at the expense of the background being blown out the field of view is also not great top to bottom i misplaced the wedge add-on to angle it like i did the other doorbells but you can see it cuts off much more of the top and bottom compared to the others the motion zone is still limited to just one with not a whole lot of flexibility to avoid a section an update for 2021 is that you can trigger amazon routines with either a doorbell press or motion what's cool is that you can have the routine start playing the video feed on your echo show using a custom action command so even though this doorbell doesn't technically have amazon's live video you can basically do the same thing you can set it up so if someone walks up to your door or presses the doorbell it can automatically show the live feed using this workaround the two-way voice sounds good you either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself the notifications are highly customizable show up quickly and have an image preview it's also the only one that allows for custom quick response voice recordings as you can see there isn't a perfect video doorbell but here's what i think is the best on a budget i think paying extra for yuffie is better than going with wise notifications will be faster you'll never have to worry about monthly fees increasing over time and if your internet is down you won't miss any recordings if you have a little bit of a bigger budget and you're serious about security privacy and reliability then the unified g4 doorbell would be my choice that's personally what i'll continue using because i bought their cameras and networking equipment so it all works well together if unify is out of the question and you want something better than yuffie then i would go with the ring pro 2 over the nest hello the image quality is slightly better especially at night the viewing angle is larger and the monthly fee for ring is half the cost if you are just getting it for the doorbell unless you need 24 7 recording or are deep in the google ecosystem then nest hello would be a better choice there are rumors that the nest hello will be updated soon so just keep that in mind to me ring has the upper hand when it comes to automations and smart home compatibility right now hopefully this video has been helpful and if it has please consider subscribing for more smart home videos also don't forget to check out that article for more details mom who keeps ringing the doorbell oh it's dad look dad's so childish hey that's not me wait who is it ben and yoda [Music]
