The color on the R8 is amazing
My dream car my whole life has been a 911 Turbo. However now I'm not sure I would want this one, the turbo is always a big step up from the 'regular' 911, but the 992 Carerra is just so fast I'm not sure I'd ever use the extra performance.
Fortunate enough to see some supercars around where I work, but everytime I see the R8 it makes me feel like a kid again. I know it's not as flashy as a Lambo, Ferrari, or MacLaren, but something about it just makes me smile.
And great intro. You guys are killing it.
The TTS is going to be better by a measurable amount if thatβs what you care about, but when weβre talking about the type of driving any of us actually do often, getting them to perform different will be hard. An experienced track driver would be able to extract it though.
This is going to boil down to personal preference on aesthetics and other intangibles, canβt really go wrong with either car.
TH with such top notch production quality. Love it.
As someone who cross shopped a r8, 991.2 turbo S and ended up getting a 570s, I can say after having done it that I'd be taking the 992. The daily liveability is actually really important, as is reliability (when you have a supercar you want it to work all the time...) I've also really come around to the 992 styling.
That intro was gold as usual.
Man the R8 has aged like fine wine. Still looks stunning to this day and that V10 soundtrack is wonderful.
Iβm still taking a 992 over it though.
if i had to choose, id take the r8 for the overall experience.
while the turbo s is nearly flawless in every metric, the v10 is soul stirring.
i don't need that extra few tenths on the road. like james, i'll take the drop top version.
Unless you are an experienced driver on a track, neither of these cars are used anywhere near their limits. So as a comparison, it comes down to things you care about. Looks, sound, steering feel, power delivery, ergonomics. So on those criteria, they chose the R8, which makes sense.
It would be cool, however, to drive up to any stoplight in the 911 against any other car on the road and know that you would likely win a race to the next stoplight.
I love Porsche more than Audi, but between these two, I'd always pick the R8. It's much more of a sense of occasion and the engine sounds wonderful even with the particulate filter.
With 150k to spend freely however, I'd pick a 991.2 GT3 RS over both of them. They're mind-blowingly fun to drive and revving the flat-six all the way to 9000 rpm feels amazing. And honestly, all of the cars in this price range are fast enough.
