this afternoon in jacksonville alabama the fcs playoffs continue with two perennial powers in a quarterfinal battle baby delaware has a storied history in the fcs and the champs of the colonial looking to grab their first national title in nearly 20 years quarterback nolan henderson will have a big say in that as for jacksonville state they're seeking the program's first national title led by dynamic quarterback zion webb the gamecocks can score a lot of points in a hurry the ncaa fcs playoffs continue next and we welcome you to jsu stadium where today the number 4c jacksonville state takes on the delaware blue hens in this fcs championship quarterfinal how did we get here well funny you should ask go back to last week in the first round matchup zion webb piled up more than 300 yards of total offense scored three touchdowns and a 49 to 14 romp of scs newcomer davidson delaware on the other hand well points were at a premium they survived the defensive struggle with some key stops couple of take aways and then were able to put the game away with a long fourth quarter drive to lock up the 19 to 10 win despite only 200 yards of total offense the winner of this game today advances to the fcs semifinals to take on the winner of southern illinois at number one overall seed south dakota state magic along with eric maclean we are in for a good one here today eric and these two teams talking to the coaches kind of mirror images of each other two teams with good defenses good rush attacks and two dynamic quarterbacks beginning with nolan henderson of delaware yeah man nolan henderson a guy who is so cerebral just a great football mind and that makes a lot of sense when you see how efficient he is and how well he plays in this system but he's also an athlete he's got great legs a guy that can extend plays and make things happen we talked with his coaching staff they said the best thing about nolan outside of his athletic ability he keeps the game calm he keeps his team calm and that's a guy right there in thyric picks that he's going to need to really step up big again i mentioned him thyric a big wide receiver the coaching staff called him the alpha he's the guy that if we need a big play that's where we're going to and you can expect pitts to make them all game long he's an all-conference performer as is the quarterback for jacksonville state zion with listen when you watch zion on tape he is a tremendous quarterback he can do it with his legs he can do it with his arm he's just a fantastic player and really after that austin p game he became a bread a better preparer a better practice player a guy that is so dangerous especially running that inside zone regain in the red zone and then the rpo game forget about it he can make you think he's running and then he takes off and does a really good shot when you look at this guy right here though trey berry that's the big tight end that they are going to want to find in mismatches one-on-one match-ups he's an absolute problem he's a big tall tight end six foot seven 245 pounds matt zion's going to be looking to him early and often a beautiful day in alabama 81 degrees cloudy light winds chance of precip will cross our fingers for that one here today jacksonville state did win the toss and will defer so delaware will get the opening kickoff such a fascinating season it has been as we take a look at john ross in his seventh season as jacksonville state head coach and alum of jacksonville state back in 1990 was bill clark's oc at jsu in 2013 before being promoted and on the other side it coached danny rocco caa coach of the year finalist for the eddie robinson award hired back in 2016. their sixth head coach since 1940 three 10-win seasons for fcs playoff appearances under coach rocco and fresh off of their first win in the playoffs in more than a decade little wind here as it uh blows off the tee [Music] and we are set to go as alan karachik is about to kick this one off and it blows off the t again here eric we need to we need to calm down this wind so we can get this game underway hey you've got to call in some help right here hey somebody please come hold this football so i can kick it off and we can get this game roll there he is there that's the saving the day right there logan mcveigh helping to save the day as he's got his finger on the ball and we were set to go dejean lee is set back to return for delaware and that win helps blow this one out of the back of the end zone well now we're going to see and get to meet nolan henderson the quarterback for delaware grew up a delaware fan grew up 45 minutes away from the stadium a three-year starter family had season tickets for years just the third delaware native in the last 27 years to start at quarterback for delaware top 20 all time and career passing yards and a guy that can do it again not exactly like zion webb eric but can certainly hurt you with his feet as well there's no question that was the first thing this coaching staff told us is hey he is an athlete he was a baseball player basketball player now he's figuring out how to be a true quarterback coleman in motion early whistle here like starting the game off with a flag illegal snap infraction number 53 offense five yard penalty still first down the early flag here on delaware and it will be first down and 15 for head coach danny rocco and offensive coordinator jared ambrose who are looking for an efficient performance here today from their quarterback nolan henderson coleman there in motion lee next to henderson henderson on the far right sideline and finds his man for a long gain and that is a gain of 20 as bryce demoli with the reception what a start there for nolan henderson again dropping back finding his big open tight end a guy that leads all tight ends with two touchdowns and great protection that's a matchup you're going to want to watch all game left tackle david crawl he's the guy that's only the 21st offensive play of 20 or more yards allowed in the last 11 games for this jacksonville state defense as john lee scampers for a few this jacksonville state defense is stout they're stout against the run they can get after the passer so that first play we saw is they're certainly unaccustomed to seeing that this season there's no question again you look at this defensive line you look at the secondary led by our guy nicario harper going to fly around all over the field today watch out for him as safety number one another motion penalty another false start [Music] start number 64. offense five yard penalty still second down then trent to the guilty party a couple of false starts here in the first few offensive snaps of this scs quarterfinal delaware got off to a slow start offensively last week sacred heart was able to put together some drives we'll see if this offense can get off to a better start here already with a 20 yard completion with her big tight end [Applause] lee in the backfield next to henderson henderson looking across the middle for a slant that's pitts and that is out of the reach there are some good defensive backs here for this gamecock squad there's no question about it especially when you can hide when you've got three on the field you've got the nickel position in tullas just hiding out sneaking right in the middle somehow henderson doesn't see him he's lucky it wasn't intercepted really good coverage there on pitts stavante tulis with the tip there the richer junior out of alabama so that brings up the first third down of the afternoon third down and 13 for this delaware offense townsend now in motion to the left henderson under duress henderson's going to tuck it to the 45 to midfield and picks up the first down and draws contact and a flag [Music] he's going to be late and there's going to be a 15-yard penalty here eric that's extra yardage and we just spoke about how athletic this guy is henderson you see him things break down he feels the pressure gets right out of there from a shoelace tackle and picks up an easy first down here with his legs defense he's going to like that extra 15. automatic first down you can almost characterize that as incidental where jeremiah harris looked like he was trying to let up tried to hold himself back as henderson gave himself up that 15 yards on the end of that play and a great start here for delaware first and ten at the 34. [Applause] [Music] henderson little pumpfink escapes the pocket that one away to the sideline after he's drilled on that play gets up okay but devante tules again we've called his name a time or two applying the pressure to henderson and you see the left side of your screen here at the bottom dj coleman he's the guy that's gonna get after the pressure he's a guy a defensive end that you're gonna wanna watch each and every play number two i call him a war daddy he forced henderson there to escape get out of the pocket and a great hit there by the defender [Applause] second down and 10. henderson rolling looking finds his tight end in the flat that's to maui again down the sideline inside the 15 for another first down demali's a guy again he's not going to show up in the stat sheet huge he does have those two tight ends but if you watch the clips if you watch the film and you see the way he can move his body in pass coverage matt i had him start i said this is a guy we've got to watch making a very early impact in this game second team all-conference gain a 21-yard second chunk play of the afternoon for delaware they got the jacksonville state defense on their heels little trickeration it's tyric pitts finding the corner looking for the pile i can't but might have that first down and it should be a first down in goal as pits the all-conference wideout comes in motion gain of 11. a little trickeration here but what i want you to watch the most important part watch the quarterback get out in space take on an all-conference player that could have been a tackle for loss instead it's a big game [Applause] this delaware offense now with a first and goal marching down the field on a pretty stout jacksonville state defense and there might be some confusion on the defensive side [Applause] i'm out looks like delaware is calling this time out according to the official [Applause] if you're head coach danny rocco you could not ask for a better start this is a jacksonville state team that does not allow offenses to just march down the field you can sense a little bit of the frustration there on that gamecock sideline and this is what you've got to do is score touchdowns not field goals not settle for kicks you have got to get in the end zone this is playoff football delaware looking like they're making a little bit of a quarterback change at first there you see big pale leet there he's the guy that's running it but henderson coming out right now look at delaware their playoff history again won some division two national titles as well last one at fcs title back in 2003 this offense last week in the win over sacred heart did not have a play of more than 20 yards they've got two of them on this drive and now coach running out into the field to call another time state will take their first time out of the path time out on the field we'll take the time out with coach grass jacksonville state and delaware no score for now in this fcs quarterfinal [Applause] jacksonville state and delaware no score here in alabama but delaware is looking to change that they only had two drives last week of eight plays or more eighth play of the drive coming for delaware scampering into the end zone and that is six for delaware touchdown for anthony paletti paoletti had a touchdown last week kind of their wildcat look at quarterback and he's got his second touchdown in the last two quarters of playoff action in delaware with a six nothing lead and you see why i mean an absolute load at quarterback six two two ten just able to lower his shoulder and say hey good luck stopping me i'm getting in this end zone for points great start by delaware again talking with this coaching staff coach head coach rocco said we have a new focus you know last week we were coming off an emotionally high wind draining we expect to have great effort and great execution so far matt nine plays marching right down the field very impressive to see and an injured gamecock there down on the field try and catch a number on that injury here and a couple of guys nicked up last week but by all accounts they were fogo today that's lemuel gordon the redshirt freshman out of montgomery alabama defensive tackle who's now being helped off at eight plays 75 yards three minutes and a couple of quarterbacks doing the damage nolan henderson you see number seven and number ten anthony paoletti the redshirt sophomore out of pennsylvania now ryan cohen will split the uprights here for a seven nothing [Applause] [Music] going right to the quarterback you get that extra blocker and he does the rest of the work again six foot two 210 pounds a great job running behind his pads has a 230 pound running back lead blocking their forum cannot over emphasize how great of a start that is for delaware really after a stagnant performance offensively a week ago matteo vandemia helping to lead the way there for jacksonville state well it's just been two different seasons here for jacksonville state a fall and a spring this is their 13th game they've played four games in the fall including fbs competition lost at florida state got the win at fiu and then played the conference slate beginning in february just one of those years you hope you never have to experience again but coach grass did say that season in the fall did benefit his team coming into the spring there's no question he said look this pandemic has galvanized our team so quickly we chose to play in the fall and it helped us so much we saw tremendous growth from our guys said he would not change a thing with how things went this season michael pettway back to receive this kickoff will it go out of bounds it does [Applause] not the way you want to chase a touchdown but for jacksonville state we're going to get our look at zion webb who the coaches have said look the game against austin p at the end of march was one of the worst games they've ever seen 9-26 44 interceptions including a couple of fumbles since then completion percentage better than 60 percent five touchdowns just one interception four rushing touchdowns as well he has been a different player and here is the all conference quarterback finds his man the big man trey berry in the flat near midfield that's good for a first [Music] and right away what are we gonna do we're gonna get trey berry involved our big tight end six foot seven bring him across the line of scrimmage here the play formation just get him out in space six foot seven two forty five let him work matt we're gonna see this over and over again from this offense gain of 14 yards for trey berry and nearly tipping over there on the outside was dave russell they caught it number 80 offense five yard penalty first down you know that win yeah it's eric it's that win right yeah we've seen it we've seen a couple of footballs blow over now players you know it's getting a little dangerous down there with these wind speeds here's the handout who nearly lost the football taking some contact and he does in jacksonville state looks like they did hop on that football that was michael pettway who took a hit on that inside give and one of his teammates is able to fall on that no one plaque forced that football yeah it really looked like he never had the ball as you see on the quick handoff it's bouncing around he's trying to secure it and then black just gets in there rocks them luckily big six seven tylen cramble able to jump in there the left tackle and secure that ball so a false start and nearly a turnover here's wed little pump gonna be brought down behind the line of scrimmage that came nance bringing him down yeah man this is never what you love to feel as an offensive lineman you're doing a great job blocking your man blocking him holding him down and then the quarterback runs right into him big artist hemingway there staying active with his press not allowing any running room great job to secure such an active quarterback for the sack there check that artist hemingway as you said with the sack first third down of this drive webb trying to come up with it he's near the first down marker it's going to be close needed 15 call it 14 katrick whitehead on the stop 14 yards yeah just a great job here we're going to do a little draw we have a big tight end getting out in space and then letting zion web do the rest he's so athletic he gets you right there they're going to be short obviously going forward with this field position fourth down and one webb sneaks up under center [Music] looks like a hard count looks like they might have been offside looks like might have been a false start again we do have flags there are flags [Applause] [Music] prior to the snap false start number 52 offense five yard penalty still fourth down it's on josh wagner the right guard who comes off the field now and now there's not sure there's much of a decision you can make here five five penalties in the game four of them false there for such a veteran offensive line and a guy and josh wagner who coach said he plays harder than anybody that was a little bit evident he was ready to go nobody else was jack dawson trying to pin it deep instead jordan townsend will collect that one at the 10 yard line delaware with a 7-0 lead on jacksonville state they'll try to add to that lead next a week from wednesday sportscenter presents the 2021 nfl schedule reveal hosted by the monday night football crew they'll show you every game for all 32 teams join steve levy lewis riddick brian greasy for analysis of each team's schedule on wednesday may 12th eight o'clock eastern on espn magic eric maclaine who is no doubt going to be looking forward to the jacksonville jaguars schedule as she has requested friends now on that team and a nice tackle behind the line is jean lee tried to find a scene but could not decoration west with the tfl lost his helmet he'll come out for a play yeah and you see here just a really good job taking up space and just getting off the blockers there by west who is a massive defensive lineman six foot three 230 325 pounds him at number 99 anthony nesby like to clog up that middle big number 99 6 1 315 pounds loss of three on the play [Applause] henderson to give to lee again barely gets back to the line of scrimmage that staff defensive front showing why marshall clark there on the stop great job there by marshall clark just a guy who has great instincts as a knack for finding the ball in the backfield he leads the team with tackles for loss and really just a great leader for this defense second on the team and tackles overall for the redshirt sophomore out of munford alabama third down and 11. [Applause] you're going to want to watch number two here at the top of your screen dj coleman a guy who is a war daddy he's coming delaware converted a third and 13 on their opening drive and route to the end zone henderson going up top to his target did he come down with it brett buckman has it the red shirt freshman you're going to find new stars here in a game like this brett buchman with just his first catch of the season and a really good job there again how efficient is that ball placement throwing it where only his guy can catch it really a fantastic throw there by henderson even better concentration buckman bringing it in on a huge third down 27 yards on the third and long and another flag all three completions for nolan henderson have been for at least 20 yards he's three of five passing for 68 yards delay game defense number 99 disconcerting signals five yard penalty first down that'll be on big number 99 anthony nesbi so flag goes the other way and again here's a look at nolan henderson three completions 68 yards does have a 14 yard run that drew a late hit as well he has been on it so far in this first quarter for the hometown kid from delaware grew up rooting for the team family had season tickets and now helping drive this team down the field again hands it off to lee who stopped behind the line it's actually corey sproul you'll see kind of a running back by committee approach as stavante tullis makes the stop big told us here making a couple of really nice plays to start off this game see a pass breakup and then now getting into the backfield and matt this was what was concerning when you look a week ago how stagnant the run game was hasn't been great up to this moment struggled last week in the win over sacred heart just 200 yards of offense average less than three yards per carry the right arm of henderson though getting the job done that's gene coleman the senior for a gain of 15 and another first down we talked about pitts being the alpha dog gene coleman he's their leader he's the guy who they can expect to really do great things in big time situations you see the good protection the time is there able to get the pass second team all-conference performer with the with the reception and now spruell really gave the team a jolt in that second half to help them in that win over sacred heart last week [Music] richard jr out of clinton maryland to matthew catholic with a gain of seven now it's second and short [Music] sproul and lee in the backfield lee out in motion spool with the spin move but can't avoid a couple of more game cards that was made arkell bitten there with a handful of other guys on the stop no game really a good job initially just avoiding contact trying to make something out of nothing and then it was just too many gamecock defenders getting there rallying to make the tackle play of the drive had an eight-play drive the last time that resulted in a touchdown and now a timeout for delaware this will be their second delaware will take their second time out of the half so we'll take a timeout as well nolan henderson and delaware with a big third down coming up and a seven nothing lead [Music] welcome back number five overall c jacksonville state trailing 7-0 to delaware you're looking at quarterback nolan henderson helping to spearhead this second drive of the game for the blue hands 116 total yards here both teams averaging better than seven yards per play henderson third and three finds his man that's dyrick pitts again gain of 14 and another first down and this is something that you know jacksonville state is not going to be able to do they have to give more pressure if they allow henderson to have all this time to throw and only bring three he's gonna pick you apart you just saw their dj coleman in kind of a spy roll he cannot do that this game he has to rush the passer he has to get after him and make him heat up his feet heat up his throws because again if nolan henderson has time he's going to pick you apart his first grab of the day four straight completions for henderson make it five straight completions down to the one gene coleman gives him a first and goal on the gate at 24. harper coming up a little bit frustrated not sure if there was some confusion in the secondary not being on the right guy but again henderson is on a tear right now a guy who is so efficient a 70 passer look for them to punch it in right here again it's all about scoring touchdowns in the playoffs fourth completion of 20 or more yards for nolan henderson 10th play of the drive upcoming henderson under center hands off to lee lee stopped right on the doorstep marshall clark on the tackle and you've got those big nasty defensive linemen in there again dicario and west a guy who is just going to take up room i call him a two-gapper he's a guy that's going to take up so much room but you see this again a great cornerback a corner route excuse me and gene coleman getting the huge gain the number five seed delaware taking on the 4c jacksonville state in this scs championship quarterfinals second down and goal [Music] henderson to lee again lee to the end zone touchdown blue hands he's in for the delaware touchdown dejean lee the conference offensive player of the year first team running back and returner and you see why just a guy who has a knack to find the end zone smalling stature big in power running through arm tackles does a great job spinning off there the inside zone for six 11 plays 89 yards took nearly six minutes time of possession advantage delaware scoreboard advantage delaware it is all blue ends here in this first quarter with a 14 to nothing lead in delaware for as much as they struggled last week on offense they were able to find points in every quarter got a safety as well to help out but they've now scored in 26 consecutive quarters dating back to the 2019 season and this delaware team came to play yet again today at jacksonville state [Music] tomorrow 7 30 eastern 4 30 pacific on espn2 espn deportees and espn plus the first ever marvel inspired presentation of an nba game warriors and pelicans telecast is going to integrate elements from an original marvel story include the iconic heroes black panther iron man black widow captain america 3d virtual effects custom graphics animations the traditional telecast will be on espn check that out that is going to be great to see pettway on the return minimal return as he is pushed back and jacksonville state will begin their second offensive drive with 3 22 to go so eric if you are jacksonville state what do you want to do what needs to improve here as you look at the numbers from last week against davidson yeah really we just can't shoot ourselves in the foot you saw last week against davidson going against a triple option team you had very limited opportunities this way and you're seeing this week they haven't had the ball a ton yet obviously just having one drive and delaware able to sustain we have to make it happen we have to make things count when we have the ball play fake red going deep down the field and that is overshot his intended receiver jared scott the senior out of oak park illinois second down and ten upcoming and matt i like taking the shot there again coming out feeling confident with your team you got a little bit of misdirection with the tight end coming across the formation you're feeling good you take the shot just miss a bit but again get this run game going that's how this team really wants to thrive with this three-headed monster they have a running back with seemingly three people in the backfield and there you have it webb the flip the flip to his running back that looked like pettway and it was who scampers out for the first down near the 40-yard line gain of 11. as kendrick whitehead little bit of a creative plan look at the big tackle out there just running in space getting out in front of people man if he could have just missed that tackle right there he looted that tackle he would have had a convoy for a big pickup still a great first down run that's pettway's second carry remember the first time he carried the football it was nearly a turnover this one a little more secure and picks up the first down [Applause] webb looking downfield thinking about running looks like he will crosses the 40. in the 42. and now he's grabbing his name zion well in obvious pain on the sideline man that did not look good when he cut he went to do a jump cut and immediately winced up and you saw him trying to dive out of bounds this is not ideal it's going to be right on the second cut here and just not not ideal whether it's the knee or the ankle total non-contact play again just trying to cut and make a move left right there yeah lifts the knee up dives out of bounds and see the trainer there right there with him and now everyone gathered around him and now chance newman the redshirt freshman out of daphne alabama who hasn't seen much action at all this season may now have to step in to an untenable situation here with zion webb down on the turf just a terrible scene here for zion webb who came in and became the starting quarterback because of an injury to zarik cooper who transferred in and was great the last couple of years he got hurt back in the fall in the game against fiu so webb stepped in for him and now newman chance newman with his chance steps in for zion webb [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] and now you just wonder is the handoff there to uriah west a minimal gain newman has played in a couple of games one for two passing nine yards what do you do now eric if you are the offensive coordinator jimmy ogle and your head coach ross what do you do here as we look at webb on the sideline well one thing is you you've got to make sure that newman feels comfortable you got to talk to him on the sideline hey what do you like what do you feel good about running and everybody just has to rally around him this is playoff football things happen we've got to figure it out the good thing for jacksonville state they have a trio of running backs got to figure out how to get it to him and that flipped to one of them uriah west delaware not fooled at all [Applause] [Music] that was actually dave russell on the pitch a bunch of guys there in the tackle including whitehead and a fourth down coming up here comes the punt unit and matt this is where it's going to get very difficult for jacksonville state would you see scheme-wise from delaware is a 3-3-5 they have five defensive backs all over the field you've got a young inexperienced quarterback looking up and seeing all those white jerseys it's going to be hard to make reads it's hard to target and we've seen that early on so far that that officially will go down for a pass for a loss of two on the last play as townsend makes the fair catch here and now another chance for delaware and this offense nolan henderson has gotten it done with a bunch of help from his past catchers here yeah he's rolling and a lot of help from his offensive line he has all day to throw and he's absolutely taking advantage of it you're seeing big guys like coleman pitts in the tight end demali going up and making plays but it takes it takes the ball getting there and a great spot throw again the efficiency of nolan henderson a 70 passer had 111 passing yards last week they have 120 passing yards here in this first quarter [Music] the give to spruell spruell looks his way through a gain of about five marshall clark on the tackle you also wonder now eric about the mindset of coach gross's team zion webb had turned into a leader on this team that doesn't just stick with the offense both of these sides of the ball they play off each other you know that better than anybody and and now you've got a defense that is really going to have to not bend or break there's no question you have such a big leader you're facing such adversity you've got to make something happen there's a great start here you know keeping them middle yardage here small game but you've got to make something happen you've got to get some juice you've got to get it back on your side momentum third and short here third medium you've got to make a play that was the first pass completion for less than 10 yards it has been all delaware and all nolan henderson the pass game the big guys both in the pass game and up front nolan henderson and delaware the blue hens up 14-0 after one not a sight that anyone wants to see jacksonville state quarterback zion webb on crutches head into the locker room because of this play a non-contact injury the left knee grabbed it immediately as he hit the turf and now delaware with a 14 to nothing lead nolan henderson on third down and three in jacksonville state's defense comes to play there to force the punt dj coleman the junior with the play third tfl for jacksonville state here in this game and that's what it's going to take we mentioned it earlier in the first quarter saying dj coleman cannot spy he cannot just sit at the line of scrimmage he has to get after the quarterback and right on cue when his team needs him most when we need something momentum wise to help juice our team up dj coleman with the big sack there fourth and eleven quan charleston back to return the first three in out for delaware charleston catches it at the 35 and he's going backwards nice play by jake reed able to get that one down the long snapper running down the field to make the tackle as delaware with a 14 to nothing lead and we'll get another look at this new quarterback for jacksonville state now the ncaa fcs championship coverage continues next weekend the semi-final coverage on espn espn2 the espn app for more information visit ncaa.com the home for all 90 ncaa championships chance newman in at quarterback again does hand that one off to pat jackson gain of a couple of yards so chance newman redshirt freshman on daphne alabama transferred in mid-season has not been on the 2-d joined the team back in january from vmi [Music] and now plays in an fcs quarterfinal newman finds his man across midfield that's trey berry for his second reception of the afternoon and that game gives them a first down and that's a good sign here for the gamecock when you have young inexperienced quarterbacks you've got to think hey lean on the tight end and that's exactly what you can do here especially having a player as special as trey berry really want to see this offensive line get going though let's move that line of scrimmage so far the delaware defensive line has done an exceptional job holding these guys up [Applause] newman gets up ended as he crosses midfield johnny buchanan there on the cam on the tackle junior out of brick new jersey minimal gain gain of two gonna bring up second down and eight as we take a look at that delaware defensive line making things very challenging here for the gamecocks yeah even right there on that quarterback draw no movement from the offensive line even a little bit of push backwards led by team captain frank burton up there big number 95 you would think this team jacksonville state with so many first teamers would get it going [Applause] wallops and taken under by buchanan again loss of seven on the sack as chance newman is brought down big time miscommunication there you see big tylen gramble the left tackle just standing with his arms out wondering where did that guy come from what are we doing looked like johnny buchanan just comes straight up the middle he surely does a miscommunication but a sam when you have a fake like that you've got to forget about you've got to get out of it quickly when you see that linebacker screaming and coming second sack of the afternoon here for delaware now third down and long for the redshirt freshman quarterback chance newman flips that one off to pat jackson but he's gonna have nowhere to run or will he still on his feet but he's gonna be called down shy of the first down for the junior out of mississippi we'll see what decision they make here on fourth down really impressive job here again just by chance getting out feeling that pressure finding his running back a great flip toss there and then jackson does the rest keeps the feet churning thought that he got out there his knee obviously down really good run and like you said decision time to punt it's a game of field position but it's also you're down 14. you've got to start being a little bit more aggressive jack dawson is back to punt jordan townsend back to receive fair catch there at the 11. delaware 14-nothing lead on jacksonville state in this fcs quarterfinal their offense takes the field again next [Music] yeah jsu never stops look at the shirt jacksonville being stopped today delaware with a 14-nothing lead in this fcs quarterfinal matchup as you look at this decorated first team all caa team including dejean lee who's in the backfield offensive player of the year in the league henderson off platform throw that one is complete to gene coleman gene coleman with his fourth reception of the afternoon really impressed with gene coleman so far today not giving up on routes when he sees this quarterback in distress what does he do he's going to come back to the ball and really just a fantastic catch we need to wear that sideline that catches good on sundays [Applause] 27-yard gain there now a jacksonville state player in the backfield just goes down they're going to tend to him pointing to one of his legs looks like sanders there's his shoe is off i don't know if he took it off if it fell off maybe some cramping what's unusual matt about this play-off is you know normally it gets colder as you go deeper in the playoffs this one is getting hotter it's a little bit different than anyone has ever experienced so he lost his shoe delaying delay again this year penalty still first down he goes down and loses a shoe in the process just couldn't make it on side in time as he lost the shoe some acting awards in the future there for uh mr sanders have to check and see if they call the penalty there that is a penalty against jacksonville state that is a delay of gain second defensive delay for jacksonville state here in this context is the officials were all over that and now they're all over this there's a lot of litter on the field today false start number 53 offense five yard penalty still first down eighth penalty combined and his second false start for mickey henry [Applause] [Music] the only thing really that's stopped this delaware offense is the yellow laundry because nolan henderson has been outstanding eight of ten passing 149 yards completions to a handful four different receivers here this afternoon five completions of 20 or more yards handoff to lee being chased from behind and he's brought down by the line of scrimmage by chris hardy big number 91. great job there by chris hardy just tracking down the running back you would have loved to see it as an offensive guy nolan henderson to pull right there as athletic as he is but a great job just hawking down you see that's a pull all day but a great job attacking the fast nimble running back for a tackle for loss gave a little too much credit being told gain of one second down and nine here for delaware henderson with the four receivers set in a little bit of trouble he's gonna tuck in and run slides near the 45-yard line we'll bring up a third down boy we gave zion webb a lot of credit of course for his elusiveness but man can nolan henderson scoot when he's under duress he's done that multiple times here today there's no question the coaches wanted it to be very clear he is a great athlete and very competitive everything that he does he wants to win but again credit jacksonville state bringing pressure getting after the quarterback forcing him to be an athlete and to move in space delaware three for four on third down conversions today a week after going two for 13 on third down conversions henderson to the sideline did he stay in [Applause] they're debating it and now brett buckman who had his first reception of his collegiate career earlier catches that one clearly out of bounds and that'll bring up a fourth down yeah there might be a little bit of illegal touching if they want to which it looks like they're going to call it holding on an eligible receiver number 6. 10 yard pin wow wow cc and that should be illegal touching those should offset and we either replay or it's it's a loss of down that that's uh that's a game changer right there yeah maybe the official again is not seeing he went out of bounds and the first to touch it but that is that is quite a penalty there would have been a fourth down likely a punt and instead the drive continues here for delaware sixth penalty of the afternoon for jacksonville state sprul gain of three and the tackle there from marshall clark and delaware with a gain and a 14-nothing lead we've crossed the nine-minute mark here in this second quarter it has been all delaware outgaining jacksonville state 188 yards to 65. and if you're just joining us the big story zion webb out for the game with an injury that has not been made official yet but he left the field on crutches after a non-contact injury to his knee henderson trying to avoid contact fires that went down the field and it is intercepted jacquez payton with the pick of henderson [Music] and that's exactly what you want to have happen when you heat up the quarterback when you force him to throw uncharacteristic throws against his body your defense is able to make huge plays like this especially matt you talk about how impactful this is jacksonville state should have just got the ball back a silly holding penalty now they come up with a big turnover defense getting the ball back for their team this is where you have to capitalize you have to take this momentum they've got you a sack got you the ball back they've got you a turnover gotten you the ball back you need to get some momentum score some points here for your jacksonville state payton's third interception of the season henderson's fourth interception that he's thrown in four games that little swing pass to russell goes out of bounds crossing the 25-yard line [Music] again a three here and again chance newman the transfer from vmi transferred in in january coming into today in his entire collegiate career including last week earlier this season when he completed a pass for this team 31 pass completions in his career for chance newman the redshirt freshman and he's four for four today from his right arm and that'll bring up a third down you see a little bit of the rpo action there he's gonna scramble to the left side of this of his screen wanted to take the shot right there over the top wasn't open he got a good pick up for a couple of yards there third and two third down and two jacksonville state has yet to convert on a third down oh for three newman is brought down [Applause] liam trainer with the sack his first of the season and that brings up a fourth down and you have to just be able to identify this i understand he's a younger player doesn't have a lot of experience but these linebackers are itching they are creeping up to the line of scrimmage you've got to forget about that fake and get it out you have to have things in the offense to protect you there easier said than done i know but when they're blitzing six you've got to be able to take advantage of that loss of five townsend back here to receive calls for the fair catch jacksonville state where is their offense going to come from just 68 yards of offense it's been all delaware here jacksonville state [Music] [Applause] [Music] delaware with a 14-0 lead on jacksonville state they win this game they'll take on the winner of south dakota state and southern illinois that game coming up later on tonight on espn2 right now sam houston with a 10-2 lead against north dakota state and delaware now with a first down and 10 after the sack that led to the punt for jacksonville state here's the pitch to lee lee working his way out of the backfield find some room but no and that is just a great tackle there javarius hoskins they're on that tackle thomas as well we've called his name a few times it's all is just flying all over the ball again in that nickel position really has support in the run but also in pass coverage really making the most of it and again the theme of this game is delaware cannot establish a run or they have not been able to lately you've got to think when do you abandon it when do you keep it true as an offensive guy you never want to get rid of it but they're certainly making waves through the air lee trying to make something happen to corey and west and that big defensive line for jacksonville state saying nothing do it and that'll bring up a third down at a this jacksonville state defense they held the school record nine straight opponents to fewer than 100 yards rushing before davidson had more than 200 last week of course they're a triple option attack so he chalked that up to that but the run game nothing doing it but the right arm and nolan henderson has been doing it well for delaware so far third down and eight three for four on third downs under duress and that one incomplete intended for townsend and now nolan henderson in pain on the turns officials timeout injury offense dj coleman providing some of that pressure henderson has thrown a couple of balls while being hit it has not been easy today despite the great numbers let's take another look [Applause] and you see coleman on the inside there i mean a tough matchup for a tackle at six foot six 260 pounds but you slide him into three technique and forget about it i mean he's a guy that is so quick gets right to henderson and just puts all his body weight as henderson falls on his shoulders to the turf now the second starting quarterback coming down with injury this one does not look good partner zach gwynne is warming up the redshirt sophomore out of wilmington delaware nolan henderson the quarterback for delaware leaving with assistance [Applause] not a site you want to see if you're a delaware fan your quarterback nolan henderson being tended to on the sideline after that hard hit from dj coleman and now delaware back to canquan charleston back to receive again at the 25. pick up about seven or eight on the return and it will be jacksonville state football for nolan henderson being tended to we already saw zion webb quarterback for the gamecocks leave with an injury and now we've got the battle of backup quarterbacks here in an fcs quarterfinal as chance newman comes back in he's four for four he's taken a couple of sacks but man i don't know what you ask of these quarterbacks how do these offenses change now with these two backups in eric again you've got to just talk to your guys and say what are you comfortable with what do you like especially with chance newman not having been here that long look for them to get some rhythm find what he does like and get these running backs involved as we see here but you got to get going vertical i mean this has been a little bit shocking to be honest with you matt when you look at this great offensive line jacksonville state has up front and a trio of running backs and for them to not get the running game going as they'd like it's a little bit shocking but give all the credit in the world to this great defense again a 335 scheme that is tough to target and it's tough to figure out especially for a backup uriah west next to chance newman the redshirt freshman wes gets the handoff tries to spin out of a tackle but there's another blue head waiting a few of them gain of a couple is going to bring up another third down and long look this is delaware with a 14 to nothing lead you've got the backup quarterback in they're over four on third down explain this 335 that we're gonna see yeah well for starters you just have guys all over the field so really you see two safeties deep but this number three here standing on the logo is acting as another safety they're they're gonna have man coverage right now really just have guys five yard penalty third down all over the field as we have an illegal substitution here but it's just so hard to identify matt because number one they're going to show you a look to start and then post snap they're going to rotate quickly they're going to show you man-to-man they're going to rotate to zone it's just something that it's tough to target as an offensive lineman it's harder to decipher as a quarterback they show you one look pre-snap give you another look post-snap and that one destined for little as chance newman kind of runs into the pile drew nichols there with a couple of other blue hens on the tackle and that'll bring up a fourth down and eight with a 14 to nothing delaware lead second straight three and out for jacksonville state both starting quarterbacks are out still on the sideline as quarterback nolan henderson for delaware still being tended to zion webb is headed back to the locker room as townsend jordan townsend gets the fair catch at the 18-yard line and we will stay here in this fcs quarterfinal and now we're going to see another backup quarterback zach gwynne the redshirt sophomore out of wilmington delaware transfer from ecu former transfer from ecu has completed three of seven passes this season for 26 yards so minimal sample space but a huge spot for him as you look at nolan henderson being bandaged up and now if you're delaware here eric are you just trying to get into the locker room with a 14-nothing lead at this point well you you want to keep your offense going and one thing to keep in mind that you still have great running backs and you still have a good offensive line you've just got to figure out the rhythm you know you haven't been able to find much success you know in the run game so obviously you don't want to have a silly turnover that leads to points you don't want to try to overdo it so getting to the locker room with this and trying to regroup not a bad idea let me ask you this are you are you snapping the ball with more than five seconds left on the play clock here no i'm certainly slowing it down and again just trying to establish some type of run game yeah we'll see what they do here again you want to keep your rhythm here but certainly knowing that your starting quarterback is on the mandate on the sideline quinn though says hold on a second i can i can play this position there's a reason i'm on the team gene coleman on the reception gain of 11 and a first down and again gene coleman how special has he been today getting in the quarterback's vision and just forcing them to throw him the ball even if he's not the first read quick snap here handoff to lee gain of a couple anthony nesbi dj coleman there on the tackle reaching the two and a half minute mark as we take a look at dejohn lee fifth year senior out of springfield virginia team captain conference offensive player of the year first team all league just a great natural running back according to his oc jared ambrose a little stymied last week but he can get it done both in the run game and the return game three yards is his longest run of the day today and that will still be the case after that run lemuel gordon on the tackle yeah he's working hard today he's trying to pick up these yards where he can find it again a smaller guy but has great vision and great power he's able to do a lot of things for your team another time out here for jacksonville state with 206 to go check it it'll be 207 to go here in this first half you take a look at delaware state their second fcs playoff appearance in the last three seasons a storied program with 17 conference titles as we take a look that's a good sign there's no one two minutes and seven seconds two zeros on look at that left arm it is bandaged up and he looks like he's ready to get back in at first blink yeah we mentioned how competitive he is as a player i'm sure they're going to sit him the rest of this half at least but he's a guy who wants to win for his team he wants to be a difference maker whether again if that's on the sideline helping encourage his guys or if coach is going to let him get back in there in the second half jacksonville state will receive the opening kickoff in the second half as zach quinn now the redshirt sophomore quarterback in for henderson faces a third down and six gwen finds his open man and that is jordan townsend for the first down back up quarterback who cares he's in there converts on a couple of third downs and that one is good [Music] really nice pick up there again and it looks like gwen was running off the sideline not sure if nolan henderson is going to be in here but it looks like number two [Music] yet he is so officially 16 yards and now henderson is back in the game handoff here around the near side to school closing in on another first down and delaware says you know what 14 nothing we'd love to have 17 or even 21 going into the break as they have controlled this game so far yeah how interesting is it when you've got your guy as the center looks like he's a little bit banged up here with his shoulder maybe slid out of place there but when you have your guy matt you asked me are we trying to get to halftime uh when henderson's in the game absolutely not you're trying to score and you see the the great job here by the offense really on that pass run you saw the right tackle get out in space get a great seal block reach block and sperle just able to get up in there in a great game [Applause] henderson 8-12 passing 149 yards does have the touchdown excuse me the interception i should say you can see his non-throwing shoulder slash arm is all wrapped up that nine yard rush was the longest for delaware here in this game pits in motion now in the slot henderson in a little more trouble gets that one away and staying in bounds is bryce demali henderson again this was earlier in this quarter ej coleman landing hard there that's 265 pounds on that left shoulder henderson was out for a series comes back in here at the tail end of this one and now leading this drive on a first down at 10. henderson that one out of bounds second down upcoming yeah a little bit of wince when he's throwing that way in his shoulder again gotta think this guy's in pain but it speaks to the competitor that he is he probably looked at that coaching staff and training staff and said hey if i can still move if i can still throw i'm going out there and that again just speaks to his competitive nature what you want to see i mean it's the playoffs there is no tomorrow if you lose and you've got to think that's what's going through his head behind henderson on this second down and ten and that one was a that's going to be a false start no question about it now you lose your center so you bring in james prince and a backup center has a false start four penalties all of them false starts [Music] [Applause] fault start offense five yard penalty still second down and you're gonna see maybe a little bit of miscommunication maybe uh somebody beating quicker than they thought but the quarterback claps his hand so everybody hears it that's the snap count the center was trying to say something again new guy in there james prince and everybody else is moving he's still trying to make a call henderson out of the pocket and he's going to throw this one away you can see he is not going to take any contact nor should he maybe a healthy 100 henderson tries to get some yardage there but he sees some impending doom and he's going to throw that one away you can see he can hardly move that left shoulder that was a really smart play there again trying to avoid contact as you said if he's healthy he's probably making a cut and trying to get up field right there avoiding the contact throwing it out of bounds making the smarter play hey those two yards you were gonna get that doesn't help us if you can't go for the next play you probably need about six yards here to be in realistic field goal range for ryan coe on this third down and 15. and we'll see what they get nothing doing there and that'll bring up a fourth down chris hardy there on the carry excuse me on the tackle dejohn lee stop for a minimal gain [Applause] will take their third and final time out of the half please reset the game clock to 51 seconds 5 1. [Applause] and really just an impressive job here by the defensive front for jacksonville state i know they've given up a couple of passes here and there on this drive but when delaware's trying to run it they are collapsing the line of scrimmage quickly from all angles whether it's their bandit position the nickel position linebackers benton and clark doing a fantastic job of reading where the ball is going and of course when you have two monsters like 99 and 93 taking up two or three gaps at a time it makes it easy it makes it difficult for the opposing offensive line to get off and try to get to those linebackers easy if you're a linebacker to say hey i'm screaming through free here trying to make a play for my defense there is nothing doing in that run game both teams averaging two and a half yards per carry and that is not a surprise both of these teams stout against the run jacksonville first in the ovc this season top 11 nationally jacksonville state against the run and that punt is away and down there inside the one [Music] tyler pastula able to pin them deep in jacksonville state with 43 seconds to go we'll see what they decide to do as we look at jacksonville state's playoff history with their football history you should say the 20th fcs playoff appearance this is actually their 41st ncaa playoff game and their 17th mcs playoff game and it has been mostly delaware here in this game delaware's run 40 plays jacksonville state has run 20 and now in the shadow of their own end zone the last thing you want is to give up a couple of points here going into this locker room gain a one and that'll likely be the last play they run matt still wanting to see this offensive line rally together we have two first team all ovc on the left side we've got a second team center a guy in josh wagner at right guard who we feel really confident about running the ball behind but that just has not been the case today on your own goal line and short yardage as an offensive lineman you put it on your back and say hey let's get on and let's go but that has not been the case really good credit to delaware and their defense today that's the end of that jacksonville state will receive that second half kickoff both teams averaging fewer than six yards per play without zion webb it has been tough going for jacksonville state both defenses coming to play we've had a pick we've had a couple of quarterback injuries what's going to make the difference in the second half so far it's all blue [Applause] hills [Applause] delaware with a 14-nothing lead over the number four-seed jacksonville state you're looking live at quarterback zion webb on crutches in street clothes after an injury he sustained in the first half we'll see that in these highlights here for jacksonville state and delaware delaware look they started out hot no doubt with two touchdown drives with nolan henderson leading the way here eric there's no question again just a great job by the offensive line giving nolan henderson time to throw the ball he's done a great job by it and then things unfortunately turn for the worst design webb just makes a cut non-contact injury unfortunately it looks very severe on his knee and then the opposing quarterback nolan henderson dropping back and you see big coleman there three technique just puts all his 265 pounds directly on probably his ac joint non-throwing shoulder he gets it wrapped up we did see henderson come back there and make some great throws to end the half but you've got to think that you know he's concerned with his health what is he going to take off and run what does that look like it's certainly a game changer and backup quarterback zach gwynne will be ready if called upon like he was in that second quarter third quarter coming up could jackson with state mount a comeback in the playoffs [Music] matching along with eric maclean jacksonville state trails delaware 14 to nothing in this fcs quarterfinal match up the story no zion webb for the rest of the game left the game in the second quarter with a non-contact injury and that kind of tells the story with those yardage discrepancies 237 for delaware 75 for jacksonville state in fact in that second quarter just 28 yards of offense for the gamecocks we'll see if they can change that here uriah west you'll to receive as ryan co set to kick this one off in this fcs quarterfinal in the second half as we begin the third that went into the end zone and gotti will take a knee so jacksonville state now without their quarterback zion webb for the game and how does that change what jacksonville can or should do here in this second half here knowing you're down 14 nothing eric yeah well it's going to take away such a big playmaker in zion web a guy who is so effective in the run game and is really able to provide that spark i mean you look all season long at what he was able to give this jacksonville state team with his legs not only what he is as a passer that's going to be something that now it's much more difficult for these guys to get that run game established third different quarterback now for jacksonville state we saw chance newman for a few series now we see ac graham ac graham crosses the 40. the redshirt freshman to the 20 to the 10 will he find the end zone he does touchdown jacksonville state 75 yards on the first play of the half you talk about needing a little bit more from your quarterback insert ac graham what a great job there on the zone read might be a little bit banged up fell on the ball perhaps but just a great job he reads it perfectly cuts up inside and look at the wheels on this young man six foot two just striding it out does a really good job getting out into space and then finishing the run might be a little short we'll look at the replay might be about on the one yard line but just a great effort by this young man coming in his team needs a spark needs something to happen and he delivers they're going to review it appeared as the oh he was just short nigel hill tracked him down at the one so they will review this but ac graham the redshirt freshman as you said he's a little nicked up that was 75 yards if the touchdown stands it'll be technically 74 if it doesn't regardless it's the longest play of the season for he's definitely going to be short there but still just a great effort and and that's what you need if you're jacksonville state let's have some sort of life on the offensive side of the ball graham now has given that to you you're going to get the ball just short of the goal line and you've got to think of these running backs this this great trio of running backs jackson samuel uriah west one of them can get into the end zone as you see graham there needing some oxygen if the air is a little thin down in alabama he didn't play last season he had three carries this season for no yards and any rushes for what appears to be 73 or 74 yards now look it looked like he was kind of holding his knee as well as he went off now he's just getting some air there on the sideline thought he had a touchdown clearly he's down it looks like they're going to put it down on about the half yard line but what a jolt they had 75 yards of offense in the first half that one will go for officially 74. after reviewing the play the call on the field of a touchdown has been reversed [Music] all will be placed at the half yard line [Applause] that's a good sign your quarterback's sprinting back to get back in here he's feeling good well that's the longest play on offense for jacksonville state this season also the longest play allowed by delaware but again 75 yards of offense in that entire first half for jacksonville state when you had the injury to zion webb that play goes for 74 yards down to the one so ac graham is out it looks like uriah west is going to take a direct snap the running back they put it in his hands and he puts it into the end zone touchdown jacksonville state if you ever want to see a power formation a power package that was it i mean look at all the beef that is on the left side of this line of scrimmages things getting a little chippy on the field it looks like here but that's what you'd love to see power football big men in the backfield just bulldoze in the way still a great job by this defense to allow minimal you know barely getting into the end zone johnny buchanan they're just trying to jump up doing his best troy polamalu impression there but jacksonville state finally on the board [Music] jacksonville state [Applause] scoreless in that first half on the ruling on the field is a touchdown after the play personal foul unnecessary roughness 92 defense that 15-yard penalty will be enforced on the kickoff that is on tommy walsh the redshirt sophomore out of pennsylvania so uriah west who had two touchdowns last week finds the end zone for the first time today the gamecock's first touchdown first score of any kind and it's about to have the delaware lead and they do a really good start man coming out of halftime this is exactly what you want our team being able to answer okay we've been punched in the mouth this is the jacksonville state team that is used to winning and you see again this power formation getting right up in there a little extracurricular activities after the play really on both sides um it's always the second guy to get caught that gets caught though man but this is what you want to see jacksonville state you know the adversity that you faced who are we going to be as a team a team that expects to win that won five straight championships took a a year off from winning and then now won it again this year in the spring a great response but now of course if you're delaware same exact thing you've had a comfortable lead you've been feeling okay about yourself now you've got to go and answer [Applause] two plays 75 yards 33 seconds they had 75 yards of offense in that first half so now [Applause] it looked like when zion webb left that it was going to be a real challenge for jacksonville state and the task is still in front of them [Applause] but certainly looks somewhat more manageable after that touchdown and now we'll get to see delaware here with nolan henderson so nolan henderson remember he got banged up in that first half as well fell on his left shoulder you can see they're probably all out of bandages at the local cvs after having to bandage him up there on that left shoulder his non throwing shoulder 9 to 15 passing 153 yards did throw a pick but you'd have to say eric what we saw from him the game plan does change a little bit with henderson's injury knowing it takes away his running ability knowing he's just gonna throw it away instead of taking hits and now we see anthony paoletti in at quarterback here for delaware and i don't mind this run again when you see this such a powerful back like the quarterback here anthony fun to see his involvement that ball on the ground palette picks that one up and now he's off to the races crosses the 40. nearing midfield is anthony paoletti the redshirt sophomore out of bruwal pennsylvania the longest rush of the day for delaware now listen i'm going to say this and maybe it's a little bit crazy but i'm getting kind of tim tebow freshman vibes you know from this guy big quarterback when he comes in you know he's going to run the ball and man he delivers strikes he's not taking hits he's delivering them what a great relief there on the first play 23 yards there on the run henderson back in hands on to dejohn lee who's tackled near the line of scrimmage markell bitten with the tackle gain of a couple laundry on the field [Music] [Applause] holding number 64. offense 10-yard penalty from the previous spot replay first down sixth penalty of the game for delaware you see the hold there on the right side of your screen and if that markel benton if that name rings a bell he was espn's number three outside linebacker originally was at alabama has now transferred here to jacksonville state and has really emerged as a great leader coach mentioned him first we talked to the defensive coordinator uh of kevin siegler here and he said hey look he's my guy who's he's who i rely on first down and 20 now after the holding call henderson fires down the right side and that is complete that's how the game opened with price to mali and it continues here in the third quarter with the first down hey if you call a corner route to bryce to melee just throw it up to maui excuse me he's going to be open he is a great route runner not a burner not going to impress you too much with his straight line speed but he finds the ball 24-yard gain his fourth catch of the day john lee has been tough going for him stavante tullis they're on the tackle [Music] tullis has been a name that we keep mentioning that his number keeps showing up around the ball again a nickel safety a guy who can play down in the box out around the line of scrimmage and still play in space and be a very effective ball player making a name for himself here today second down and six that's coleman in motion to the near side henderson's got some time this time and finds lee in the flat who will have the first down [Music] and nine yards on the player what we're seeing happen is again henderson having time to throw we mentioned that you cannot just stand around and spy this guy big coleman big number eight there benton just watching you have to come after him if he has time to throw the ball he's going to light you up and we've seen that time and time again here so it's interesting still with an injury that we're going to spy and allow this quarterback to sit back and throw pretty anthony paoletti in at quarterback the flip back that is gene coleman and jacksonville state is not full nicario harper the defensive player of the year the ohio valley conference first team all ovc with a big tfl yeah and he's showing you right there harper is why he's the defensive player of the year just smart instincts sees it coming the entire way coming down from the safety position for a tackle for loss there great tackle in space to really limit what they're able to do there loss of eight on the play second down and 18. henderson now back in at quarterback henderson looking downfield now he's going to tuck it and run and sneak out of bounds and takes a big hit on a flag markel benton who we mentioned earlier it was clear henderson was giving himself up he says he's okay gives his sideline the thumbs up already injured with that left shoulder and took a hit from benton yeah and it was a little bit interesting there again matt you you know that you're injured you've got to get out of bounds quickly i know he was giving himself up and i know he was on his way but he almost you know slowed down too fast it looked like to me we'll see the replay here nobody open does a great job extending the play benton coming downhill in a hurry and he's easing up i mean he that's not that bad of a play i know everybody's upset it's a quarterback but he's walking three yards to go honestly that could have been targeting as well and you wonder if they'll call that here eric you do wonder if they'll call that here yeah i think kind of obviously a knee-jerk reaction by everybody on the sideline but quarterbacks got to get out of bounds i mean you got to protect yourself especially knowing you have an injury he pulls up a little bit short i know all defensive people listening right now you agree with me i mean right there he's given up and he's still in bounds they're two foul both offense both were after the play and both will be of course personal foul unnecessary roughness number 10 defense that penalty being forced 15 yards after the play also was a personal foul number eight defense with targeting automatic first down the previous play is under review so both of these penalties are going to be enforced one on jacquez peyton but here's the targeting and there is a clear lowering of the helmet there and two flags coming out yeah i mean there's no question i mean it has all the all the rules i mean if you look at the rule book that's it that's the clear definition why number four there's not getting penalized he's coming off the sideline and touching a player in the play i'm not sure but um yeah that's targeting he's going to be gone it's unfortunate again quarterback's got to protect himself get out of bounds but that's textbook targeting right there [Music] markham benton you mentioned it top 50 prospect overall in that class of 2017 went to alabama was the number two player in the state of alabama in that class had a tough time there in alabama last year was nick saban at one point said he was suspended a year ago worked his way into the transfer portal found a home in jacksonville state staying in state but now maybe finding his way out of this game after that call another big thing to remember is if you know jacksonville state is able to make this comeback and to play next week he will be suspended for the first half of that contest so you you see how impactful a targeting penalty really can be and it's unfortunate but again clear-cut rule it checks every box forcible contact with the crown of his helmet there's indicators for targeting there's a launch after reviewing the play the call for targeting has been confirmed number eight has been disqualified from the contest the enforcement is correct it'll be first down you just need one of the indicators there's a launch a player leaving his feet to attack an opponent upward and forward thrust to the body with forcible contact leading with the helmet shoulder forearm lowering the head before attacking by initiating forcible contact you're right i checked most of those boxes and now benton is out for the rest of this game and furthermore as both of those penalties were enforced look where this ball is now first down and goal for delaware it was third and 14. turns into first and goal and turns into nearly a touchdown but he drops that football that is thyric pitts usually the reliable receiver in and out of his hands and anytime you get down in this red zone area you're going to throw it up to big thyroid pits over there and lucky not for jacksonville state he didn't come down with it there great throw where only he can catch it one-on-one coverage that's unfortunately one he's going to want to have back so anthony paletti is back in at quarterback here and usually that means quarterback run we shall see second down and goal does run with the football finds his way near the five-yard line the corio harper nicario harper who made a big hit earlier makes the tackle and in back comes nolan henderson yeah just a great job there by west again i talk about these big defensive tackles they're two gappers he does a great job sitting there not allowing that line of scrimmage to be moved waiting for the quarterback to run right into his arms great tackle for no game gene coleman split out wide and now he'll get some company unorthodox set here with nolan henderson at quarterback the handoff to lee you can see they tried to vacate the premises and force jacksonville state to spread out but you know they didn't spread out big number 99. anthony nesby was there with the help man let me tell you something if you're not having success running the football with five offensive linemen you're not going to have it running with only three and when you took your best one out with david kroll uh you know it's fun interesting play but yeah jacksonville stay right there and ready for that trickeration no problem now an attempt here for ryan coe who made a career-long 53-yarder last week this is classified as a chip shot from 22 yards and delaware back up 10 to a two possession lead so they answer the jacksonville state touchdown with a field goal we're still in the third of this fcs quarterfinals magic eric maclean sam houston 17-9 lead until this punt return touchdown for the reigning national champs they've won eight of the last nine national championships at the fcs level they are knotted up at 17. they also had a safety in that one as well that is currently on espn with tom lugenville and roy philpott we got a good one here as well not not the kind of game that we expected but it's it's it's a backup quarterback frenzy here in this game we have seen in this game for jacksonville state now three different quarterbacks zion webb was out because of a non-contact injury in the second quarter chance newman came in for the rest of the second quarter and then at the tail end of that second quarter we actually did see ac graham running plays out of the goal line and then what did he do first play in this second half a 74-yard touchdown run it was actually 75 yards called back it was a 74-yard run and then they ran it in from there here's ac graham and that one is intercepted noah plaque with the pick on ac graham's first pass of the game really on the field it's an interception first down yeah and so what we are trying to do here for jacksonville state is fake the pitch to the right get everybody's eyes down and just sneak our playmakers out of the backfield noah plaque too good of a safety too rangy i mean maybe if if ac graham's able to air that out a little bit plaque doesn't have the angle that he does especially six seven tight end but he under throws it the playmaker plaque able to slide right in there get the ball right back for his team you can see having a conversation there now with the injured zion webb chance newman also there a little quarterback conversation well delaware their best starting field position was their own 25. now they're at the jacksonville state 44 and now they're at the jacksonville state 45. after a long time one game has just not been there for delaware all day long give a great credit and all the credit to this jacksonville state defense what they're able to do the big men up front holding the line of scrimmage the linebackers flowing over the top to make the huge plays there as marshall clark just did fifth tackle for loss for jacksonville state tough going here for this delaware offense in the run game [Applause] and they have to rely on their injured quarterback nolan henderson who took a hit fell on his left shoulder after a tackle from dj coleman in that second quarter his non-throwing shoulder his throwing shoulders still healthy and finds dean coleman down the sideline for a first down on second down at 11. really good blitz pickup there on the left side by the running back dijon lee he gave his quarterback some extra time jacksonville state was bringing it he found his receiver and gene coleman who is having a terrific day today really being a great act athlete and outlet for noah henderson gained a 19 on the play look at the first down discrepancy 20-4 jacksonville state has nine penalties four first downs the handoff to lee maybe a positive yard or two let me well gordon there on the tackle at least slow getting up and matt i understand we want to keep balance we want to keep you know people honest as lee looks to be a little bit more serious than we thought [Music] but the offense has just been so much more efficient through the air and they put themselves in these adverse situations running the ball you've got to think hey what could we be doing right now if we just pass it again lean some big time pain down there on the turf how much of that do you think is to protect their quarterback and just trying to to hand them off and just just be stubborn about it knowing your quarterback's left shoulder is a little banged up we can see lee here watch his left leg look like he's stuck a little bit there in the turf as he is being tended to now on the field conference the colonial athletic association offensive player of the year first team all-caa for running back and returner i agree with you though man i think it is something that again you have the lead a 10-point lead obviously your defense is playing really really well you could just be trying to eat the clock and you try to do what you can on offense moving the ball running it knowing that you have a great quarterback and nolan henderson that can make the plays when he needs to throw the ball when put him in adverse situations when you have to not when you want to right and maybe that will be the difference here moving forward but it's still it's just a 10-point lead you're not going to feel comfortable against this jacksonville state team just yet that throw in the flat complete the coleman makes the man miss and gets a first down a little shake and a little bit of bank against jamis presley who missed that tackle and that's another first down here for the blue hens yeah just a great job with misdirection we talked to the offensive coordinators and head coach here he said offensively we want jacksonville state's eyes going all over the field as you see there the line goes right quarterback and wide receiver and coleman go left a great pickup there really looking like a joystick at the end of that run gain of 11 there for coleman and now anthony paletti is back in at quarterback does flip that out that's a loose ball that's on the ground loose ball as that was a backward pass and a lateral jacksonville state says we've got it and we'll see for the official word on that live ball and it is matt i'm not sure if they were trying to set up a double pass of sorts there normally when you see the ball going backwards as you do recovered by the defense first down they could be setting up some type of running back pass but that oh man that's tough definitely backwards mateo vandamia the redshirt freshman was the intended essentially pitch back on that backward pass george steele comes up with it the redshirt sophomore in a trussville alabama and this defense again continuing to keep delaware in this game and now what can this offense do now they've got to pitch back to pat jackson that delaware defense has risen to the occasion time and again without zion whip you see a really stout job there by henley the defensive back number 21 screaming down he sees that pitch okay it's not a pass i'm coming down to help my guys really just a great tackle there for minimal gain e.c graham the redshirt freshman out of sandy springs georgia makes the handoff he's got some speed to him but he's wrapped up by noah plack who got an interception earlier in this quarter gain a fight and a really good job there you have the option to the left-hand side but graham saw space put his foot in the ground got vertical was able to get what he got thought it was a first down for some reason when he was sitting on the turf but still three yards to go and this is where it's interesting your offensive line has not had success moving the ball very well do you try to get your quarterback in space as we have three folks lined up in the backfield oh for five on third down trying to create some misdirection but instead the ball's on the turf pettway falls on top of that which could have been disastrous anthony toro forced that fumble there on the pitch and look you can see what they're trying to do create some hesitation create some misdirection and instead it nearly led to a disaster yeah you want to stop triple option football hit the quarterback and hit him often and that's exactly what happened there i know jacksonville state obviously a spread offense but showing you a triple option look there and a quarterback trying to pitch to his left that's difficult even more difficult when you're getting hit right in the mouth loss of 14 on the play the second fumble of the day for jacksonville state they've recovered both the first was a fumble by pedway it was recovered by a teammate this time he recovers it after the fumble from ac graham flag on the play on this punt maybe a little holding down at the bottom during the kick holding number eight receiving team 10 yard penalty from the end of the kick first down it will be delaware football coming up anthony toro and this defense getting it done for the blue hens the offense has it next up [Applause] family affair here in jacksonville alabama the home crowd team the home team crowd though not enjoying what they're seeing so far 17-7 delaware with the lead and a chance to add to it here quarterback nolan henderson back in at quarterback [Music] and he's just going to throw this one to the sideline that one incomplete intended for his big tight end bryce damaley and now we've got another injured gamecock [Music] for a defensive injured player and that is dj coleman one of the big time players on this defense he's the one who hit quarterback nolan henderson hard drove him down on that left shoulder which led to a bandage issue there on the sideline but my goodness this would be a tough one here no question a big part of their defense again dj coleman with what he's able to do who he is as a player and you saw it on the left side of your screen there just kind of an incidental contact if you will the left guard tied up a little bit of a holding there by the left guard and then dj just runs right into that guard who was falling hopefully it's just a minor injury something he can get back as he's kind of hobbling off the field here well coming up tomorrow 7 30 eastern 4 30 pacific on espn2 we'll have the first ever marvel inspired presentation of an nba game the warriors and pelicans we're going to get some great original marvel story and include the iconic heroes black panther iron man black widow captain america 3d virtual effects custom graphics the traditional telecast will be on espn but you need to check this one out nolan henderson they put him back together today he's been a captain america today for delaware after that injured left shoulder finds his receiver over the middle that's jean coleman makes a couple of his bounce off a tackle and gets another first down jeremiah harris they're on the tackle but they'll move the chains again for the blue handles and who is it again coleman the leader of the room for these wide receivers just keeps getting open finding windows in this defense great pickup gain of 12 for coleman and another loss on the play in the run game just not happening cory sproul met at the line of scrimmage chris hardy with some good penetration there for jacksonville state there's a couple of themes here matt running the ball you're losing yardage when you throw it you're throwing it to gene coleman so we're seeing consistency from this delaware team um and a great great game i mean these guys keeping tough nobody really wanting to extend that lead or come back it's been a fierce competition the only yards you're really getting are in the pass game [Music] see if they go to the air again here on second eleven they do henderson finds his man's scroll there in the flat just past the line of scrimmage for a minimal game will bring up a third down and another player is hurt here tillis does get up he's been a one of the leading tacklers here in this game for jacksonville state he's been terrific and a really smart play there by sprole being able to sneak out of protection be an outlet for his quarterback henderson but tula's not tricked at all has his man came flying up field again stopping the big time gain that that could have been delaware started the day three of three on third down since then one of five here on third down and nine make it one of six [Applause] that defensive front continues to apply pressure and force henderson out of the pocket he's calling for something yeah well it looked to me matt on the left side it looked like it should have been holding on the left tackle but for whatever reason nolan henderson thinks that it should be on jacksonville state it's gonna be interesting to see the call here [Music] holding number 72 offense that penalties decline fourth down that's the big man david kroll the left tackle top of your screen you're just going to see it on the top of your screen here he just gets beaten holds on way too long and when you're falling down like that you've got to let go you're going to get hit every time not sure what nolan henderson was asking for there but he certainly must not have seen the hole on the backside he did not get what he was asking for quan charleston back to return on this punt calls for the fair catch at the 20. jacksonville state needs to get something going offensively three and a half to go in the third down 10. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] delaware with a 17-7 lead over jacksonville state there's no doubt the jacksonville state trying what they can to get that man number four trey berry involved in this game one of their best offensive players six seven 245 the handoff here nothing doing to josh samuel the redshirt junior out of greenville south carolina they had a 74-yard run on that first play of the third quarter wound up led to a one-yard touchdown run for jacksonville state you take out that 74-yard run these two teams have combined for 90 yards of offense this quarter fact jacksonville state has 143 yards of offense 74 on one play [Applause] ac grab looking to throw looking to escape that one tip nearly picked off there like andrew polowski had a beat on it that'll bring up a third down yeah really dangerous play there and again another injured player some delaware team teammates coming to run over and looks like a little bit of an argument 70 stands up tylen gate grebel there fans want something looks like no call [Music] dalem darien for delaware was in there mixing it up a little bit you can see coach cross talking to the side judge a little bit there's tylan grable he's a great athlete in high school was a walk on tight end great high school quarterback as well now cemented there at left tackle third down and 10 for jacksonville state that one off to the near side forward pass incomplete intended for michael pettway and the problems continue 0 for seven on third down for the gamecocks this offense can just not get out of their own way can get nothing going in the run game and when you look at these spread attacks that lean so heavily on the run this is what happens when you can't get it going you you stutter out you spurt out you have oh for seven on third down and just cannot get anything working with you the defense is hanging on for dear life as the punter's raising his hand saying i don't have a ball man how are we gonna kick this thing the clock's down to five seconds you seriously going to do this all right reset it up to 25. jack dawson set the kick jordan townsend the return no fair catch this time but we'll scamper right out of bounds they're at the 28 could be a late hit there no flag called on that play things have been fairly chippy throughout and it's beginning to rain a little bit we've said at the outset of our broadcast about a 50 chance of rain well if mother nature called tails on rain it did land tails a little light drizzled here in jacksonville state [Applause] of course the injury to zion webb has certainly dampened the mood here in alabama changed the whole complexion of this game and the whole potential for this jacksonville state offense [Applause] henderson finds his man again it's gene coleman gene coleman is having a heck of a game nine catches around 130 yards so far just again impressive to see gene coleman a guy who is always finding the right place to be finding holes in this defense and really being the guy we talked about it earlier with pitts on how he can be that big playmaker but today coleman all reliable nine catches officially 129 yards so far swing pass to coleman again coleman breaks tackles and crosses the 40 for a first down boy you talk to the coaches you talk to jared ambrose you talk to coach rocco and they just rave about gene coleman they did not hesitate saying he is the leader of the wide receiver room he's smart makes contested catches and he's made every catch today but we do have a flat holding offense 10-yard penalty from the spot second down obviously wasted all of the effusive praise of coleman on the back end of that play as the play is negated but it doesn't take away the great game that he has had but here a wide receiver out here getting called for a hold yeah again just holding on too long really correct decent block you hate to see something like this 10 yards from the spot but again holding on just too long defensive guys they hate being held and you see the penalty there eight penalties 65 yards for the blue hens it has been a flag fest today an injury-riddled contest henderson look out again you don't want to tell a guy not to play how he's accustomed to playing but with that injured left shoulder and those big bodies on that defensive front here just go down yeah no question this is a little bit dangerous when you outrun your blockers especially on a rollout where you have protection you want to really slow down and let those guys get in front of you where they can do their job you can do your job and throw the football really you know lucky that that wasn't a bigger collision there going back into where the ball was snapped winding down here in the third quarter third down and 13. they're four for nine on third downs would have had a time of it from their last six third downs can henderson get there he does do the wise thing and slide his offensive lineman pointing for a first down but he is and that will bring on the punt unit you would assume yeah really a great job they're extending the play by henderson and again you've got to think if i'm not injured do i slide there if i'm not injured do i pick up that first down we know the answer is obvious now because he is injured he slides and they're three yards short tyler pastula freshman out of easton high school in pennsylvania set to punt juan charleston again set to return nearly got a finger on it to the game cox no here's charleston no return but good coverage units there for delaware so far jacksonville state has had some issues here offensively the injury to zion webb certainly a big part of that trey berry trying to remain a big part of this offense number three receiving team the pen will be enforced 10 yards from the end of the kick first down 10 penalties 81 yards for jacksonville state now there's trey berry six seven 245 pounds the senior out of somerdale alabama pretty athletic guy eric mclean basketball in high school hey listen to this the ovc conference is a heck of a basketball conference i know that the gamecocks would like to see him on the court you see the athleticism there from him again and with backup quarterbacks you've got to think okay where's my blanket where's my security blanket that's your tight end i would love to see more plays that are at least we we can tell that that was the target that was the primary you know guy that we were aiming for maybe that's where we see on this drive ac graham backing up into his own end zones gonna have to throw this one away and he does jacksonville state in the third quarter they started the quarter with a bang two plays touchdown including a 74-yard run from that man ac graham since then had a one-play drive int three and out three and out and now this is the second play of the ensuing possession and we're trying to take a shot here and i it's hard to understand you don't have any rhythm on offense you want to get dinks and dumps and get the quarterback's confidence up we just had max protection with the tight end and the running back trying to take a shot the handoff to uriah west and that will end the quarter artist hemingway there on the end of the third quarter the four fingers are up that means we know how to count and we're headed to the fourth that was a tough third quarter 10 combined points a lot of miscues jacksonville state will have to button up to have a shot in the fourth in this fcs quarterfinal you gotta get hyped for the fourth quarter in the number four see jacksonville state trying to do just that some jumping jacks get some energy get some points is going to be the key here obviously eric mac lane along with matt schick here jacksonville state an offense that had 74 yards on one play in the third quarter the remaining 10 plays negative two yards ac graham trying to tuck and run instead he tumbles chase mcgowan and that delaware front getting it done i've been very surprised about the success matt that we've seen from the just the dominance of the line of scrimmage for delaware really on both sides you know not really allowing too much pressure on their quarterback the defense i mean holding points and rushing the quarterback has been extremely impressive especially against this offensive line that we thought was going to have their way with them [Music] hunting this one away to townsend after the fourth sack for delaware today this was a jacksonville state team that was converting at an impressive clip on third down 44 on third downs this season they are over eight today and you've been in locker rooms eric you've been in huddles you've been in the trenches you get it you lose your starting quarterback it changes everything especially about both sides of the ball but specifically on offense and your game plan and what you're trying to do yeah there's no question especially a leader and as a person who means so much to this team as ion web in the running game in the passing game being able to extend plays it's been a real problem for jacksonville state all day anthony paoletti in it quarterback tries to run over again and he does does wind up with the tackle that was yule gowdy hey listen when i compare someone to tim tebow they're going to lower their head and they're going to knock somebody else's helmet off and that's right on cue thank you sir he is not shying away from contact the redshirt sophomore watch this yeah that's just quarterback power and he says i'm stronger than you are i'm coming right at you that's exactly what he does gain of seven he is the leading rusher for delaware five carries 27 yards just two and a half yards per carry for the blue hens [Music] second down and two handoff to sprull and he has the first down tackle there by stavante tulis who has continued to get his name mentioned today one of the leading tacklers on this team but not before corey sproul the redshirt junior out of the math the catholic clinton high school there at the catholic high school in clinton maryland was able to get that first down and now you wonder here again there's still 13 minutes it's a lot of time but jacksonville state has shown no inkling of being able to get anything done offensively outside of one play in this third quarter how does that change delaware's approach here in the final 13 minutes offensively yeah well there's no question they're going to try to eat as much clock as they have right here you see the about to get a delay a game they call timeout but they want to slow it down and they want to eat this clock they want to try to establish the run which they have not been able to do but i assume that's what we're going to see we're going to see these guys continue to bust it up continue to run the ball and we'll see that we'll be right back here in a second fcs quarterfinals matt chick along with eric mclain delaware with a 17-7 lead over the number four c jacksonville state jacksonville state without its starting quarterback zion webb out for the game with a knee injury in that second quarter this offense has not been the same since and for delaware a chance to salt this one away with this defense continues to hold its own george steele had a fumble recovery earlier he wraps up corey sproul one thing that has stayed constant this entire game matt is both of these defenses not allowing the run to occur outside of that one quarterback run for 74 yards by jacksonville state nobody able to establish any type of run game all day that's a great job by the defensive lines by the running backs not being able to find that hole and then of course linebackers come screaming down and are able to make the play awesome one on the play you can see the play clock winding down with that game clock you got a 10 point lead against an offense that's had a tough go and boy it's been a tough day physically for nolan henderson he gets wrapped up behind the line of scrimmage marshall clark mentioned his name a time or two chris hardy in on the mix as well brings up a third down yeah marshall clark just such an impressive linebacker a guy that just has the instincts that sees things happen before others might and is able to trigger down quickly he is a guy that has very much so impressed me all day today third and 14. handing the ball off to sprul it'd be short of the first down by about five or six yards and you can see delaware says you know what we're just gonna play the field position game unless we unless we give up big plays like 74 yards like we did before we'll make you earn it down the field we'll trust our defense because we don't trust your offense no doubt about it coach rocco and his defensive staff they're feeling good about what they've been able to do all day long this defense tries to confuse quarterbacks they want to move post-snap a ton they want to show you something at first and then move it and that's exactly what they've done all game long have not allowed jacksonville state to get anything going in any kind of rhythm on the offensive side of the ball and they'll be getting the next drive 82 yards away from the end zone jacksonville state needing something offensively to keep hope alive here in the quarterfinals [Music] [Applause] delaware with a 17-7 lead over jacksonville state the gamecocks trying to get something going offensively and cannot we can't emphasize it enough the zion web injury certainly has a large part to do with this this delaware defense has been clamping down all game jacksonville state had 74 yards on one play the other 33 plays they have 72 yards per play amazing one of the best in fcs what they're able to do each and every week as they just strip the ball out ball's flying around [Applause] three lands on it there but these guys they confuse you they bring it from everywhere they have unbelievable depth we talked to coach rojas defensive coordinator and he just said hey look we feel comfortable with our two deep on the defensive line with our two deep at linebacker and we are going to rotate guys like crazy so they're fresh they're active and they're ready to go fighting for playing time all game long colby reader with that forced fumble here what a great story out for a while with a back injury has come back in and helping lead this defense on a postseason run which could lead to an fcs semi-final appearance graham to the sideline and that one is intercepted [Applause] nigel hill with the pitch [Music] that is his third of the season nigel's just doing a great job in coverage being patient sees the quarterback's eyes and says yep i'll take that and there's a theme with these two interceptions that we've seen from graham underthrown balls he's got to get it out there allow his receivers to go and try and make a play you're putting the defense at a crazy advantage especially when they are behind the wide receiver if they're level then it makes sense to try and throw back shoulder that has not been the case in either of these ints a great play there by hill now having three interceptions leading the team on the season a.c graham oh for five passing here today henderson pump fake and that one over shot his intended receiver fabric pits trying to end the game on one pass because peyton there on the coverage back to nigel hill had a game clinching interception against villanova coaches just love his ability to play the boundary be a force player plays the ball plays it in the air and did a great job there for a first-team all-conference performer and another score here could just about do it with nine and change to go but easier said than done against a gamecock's defense that hasn't given up much today [Applause] [Music] palette in at quarterback where do you think again on the top it's quarterback power and it's good for three to four yards a clip i mean this guy is so big and strong he gets after it lowers his shoulder picks up some good yardage he's laughing over there having a good he has been the one constant when he's in he has been able to run on this jacksonville state team and you ask yourself why well there's ten blockers instead of nine i mean there's so many extra bodies out there especially when you can get a lead blocker with a running back [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] matt chick along with eric mclain apologies for the technical difficulty lost a little power just outside of the stadium 17-7 [Music] and a third down and seven here for [Applause] [Music] delaware henderson under duress comes to the near side runs out of bounds nearly takes another hit whether it be a flag [Applause] there is a first down no flag but they do move the change with eight and change to go it's good to see that from your quarterback again a guy who is the ultimate competitor he's gonna go out there and get these tough yards and just really be a guy who will lay it all out there for his team who's going to try his hardest to make it happen on the sideline you see who's in there number 10. you can kind of bet what's coming right at you [Music] handoff around the near side no he keeps it in pale it is wrapped up behind the line of scrimmage and that's got to be the first negative play for paleolithic jacksonville state just reading it sees that they're trying to show play action fake the run 91 there chris hardy not faking we can't see the chat not sure delaware with a 17-7 lead over jacksonville state jacksonville state with just four first downs in this game their fewest in a postseason was eight which happened back in the 1989 national championship 24-4 out first down by delaware [Music] henderson under center gonna hand this one off to lee good to see him healthy but a lost helmet there for quests [Music] and what you're seeing from this delaware team as we kind of alluded to at the 13-minute mark is they're just trying to run this clock out they are trying to just absolutely keep the ball on their side it is third down so you might see a little bit of a vertical passing game here on third and 11 but they want to use as much clock as they can every possession that they have and try to minimize any chance of jacksonville state figuring it out offensively [Music] and minimize any chance of you know the fewer plays the fewer injuries the fewer licks nolan henderson takes all of those things as at some point you start setting your sights on all right we're probably going to have another game to play coming up next week [Music] tripped up there was dejan lee slams that football down in disgust it has been a tough go for lee in that run game just 19 carries roughly 23 yards and look at henderson's arms i don't know if you guys saw that he as he was walking off the field this man is battered bruised bloody i mean he is truly giving his all for this team and that was the non-injured arm so you can just imagine what that side looks like as we've got a 47-yard field goal attempt here ryan co has already made from 22 last week he made from 53 and this week he's good from 47 yards [Applause] delaware leads this one 20 to 7 5 and a half minutes away from the semifinals [Music] [Applause] [Music] ncla fcs championship coverage continues next weekend with the semifinal coverage on espn espn2 and the espn app for more information visit ncaa.com the home for all 90 ncaa championships ball on the ground that one is live and recovered there by jacksonville state you know we were talking before the break on nolan henderson and the arms man he's taking a lick in there eric mclean yeah he's busted up and again that's the arm that's not covered the other arm is just as bad this guy taking some bruising again the ultimate competitor talking to this coaching staff they just say hey this guy's going to put his body on the line and that's exactly what he's done so far today [Applause] talked about how he attacked the pandemic just got better through zoo meetings with coaches as a double pass situation here for jacksonville state little stutter step and out of bounds they want a flag and there are flags [Applause] gate of two for that but the flags will change the outcome no doubt after the play personal foul late hit number 70 defense 15 yard penalty correction 15-yard penalty on the offense first down [Applause] even when you get a couple of yards you're going backwards jason jones they bring him in for a little gadget play and it results in 15 yards going back the other way yeah trying to get creative here trying to do something and just really a terrible idea by grebel there at the top of your screen with the late hit not sure if he's frustrated if that guy said something to him during the broadcast but that's just not a play that you want to see especially from one of your leaders up front jacksonville state with one first down in the second half that one nearly picked off and you can see colby reader reaching for the heavens saying how could i not get that it goes through the hands of one number four and goes to the hands of another number four yeah just great concentration here by trey berry again we mentioned get this guy the ball colby reader there a difference maker right in the perfect position just goes through his hands barry able to make a big time catch or not a catch oh no good should be second and eleven here we'll see [Applause] dc graham is wrapped up behind the line of scrimmage nick coomer with a sack and the long day for jack's state continues and you see here again the left side of this line of scrimmage is supposed to be the better more talented side and they just get right through there go and touch the center the left guard and the tackle for the sack your quarterback you've got to have a little bit quicker of a clock than that nothing's open get out of there make something with your legs happen graham not able to do so for yet another sack for this delaware defense that was third down bring it up fourth down another punt townsend with the fair catch again one first down in this second half for jacksonville state that first down came on that 74-yard run struggles yeah it has been struggles all day long for this jacksonville state offense the defense of delaware just having their way with them doing anything that they want you see the coverage that's confusing your quarterbacks he's having to pull the ball down by the time he does he's getting sacked for a 10-yard loss it has been a great day for delaware defense six three and outs longest drive of the day for jacksonville state five plays long look at the fcs championship racket look at sam houston that's on espn right now 24-20 lead over the reigning champs a north dakota state team that has won eight of the last nine national championships delaware it's been a while 0-3 since they won the title in fact 2010 the last time they made the fcs playoffs as spruell gets this carry [Music] the last two times delaware has made the playoffs in 2010 2007 they've made the national championship game took a little bit that's right and that's what this coaching staff wants i mean when we talk to coach rocco and his thoughts for this program where he sees this program going that's absolutely it i mean he was a very confident coach knows what he has in this team and is very excited for the future sproul is brought down behind the line of scrimmage another good defensive playlist sanders there on the tackle 11 tackles for loss for jacksonville state [Music] jacksonville state will take their first time out of the half this is a 30-second timeout please reset the game clock to three minutes and three seconds three zero three i do want to tell you that this week's sunday night baseball game is a series finale between the mets in philly citizens bank park the phillies tied with the mets and braves for the nle's league coverage begins at 6 eastern on espn the espn app with baseball tonight sunday night countdown you want to clear that up you know danny rocco did lead this team to the fcs playoffs a couple of seasons ago back in 2018 but the last two times they've won a game in the fcs playoffs they've made it to the national championship game their last coming in 2010 now looking to win multiple games here and three minutes three seconds away from doing just that henderson throwing back across his body to de valley o'malley not getting much there again it's devante tulis who's there with the help of yo gowdy [Music] really a good job there by bryce to mali you see him on the bottom hand side of your screen you see the protection he's showing that hey i'm in i'm max protecting and he just does a little slip maneuver against dj coleman the great defensive end and is able to pick up minimal yardage but it looked good on the front end matt no gain there on the play so minimal it was zero but delaware look when you started this game and delaware came out red hot couple of touchdowns the first couple of drives it was 14 nothing and jacksonville state loses its starting quarterback and you thought this game could really get out of hand give a ton of credit to jacksonville state has gotten zero help next to zero help from its offense in the second half outside of one play and one touchdown but they've they've hung in there but the total number of plays run 77 plays for delaware 39 for jacksonville state it's incredible to hear those numbers and just see you can tell by the rhythm of the game i mean jacksonville comes in for three plays and they punt that's just what jacksonville state has been doing all game long they cannot figure it out it's a little bit like you know i know no jacksonville state you know fan wants to hear this but it's a lot like that austin p game you know it's not a bunch of turnovers but they just can't do anything offensively and still their defense plays great and and gives them opportunities and chances to be in this football game and unfortunately the offense just has not been able to do their part today delaware has not won a road playoff game since 0-7 they have not made it to the semifinals since 2010 and danny rocco and this delaware blue hens club is two and a half minutes away from doing just that they don't ask you to draw a picture write a description it's either a w or an l and we're two and a half minutes away from from a w here for the delaware blue heads [Music] c graham under pressure he took this one little stutter step stays inbounds does go out of bounds at the 31-yard line jacksonville state has a hundred and looks like about 145 yards right now maybe 146 yards of offense 147 i'm being told i knew i'd get it right if i guessed enough numbers but their least number of total yards in the postseason 166 which they did back in 1989 against mississippi college in the national championship ac graham that one is incomplete on third day [Music] and this is just unfortunately what we've seen all game long is is no rhythm no consistency you know you'll have a nice run play here and there and then just really can't get anything going and it's unfortunate especially with a team like jacksonville state that is so explosive and able to do so much with their offense but again this delaware defense is one of the best in the country if not the best they have a lot of pieces a lot of depth and they're able to show a lot of problems to teams fourth down and five this is essentially the game ac graham they'll live to see another series first down here for jacksonville state just their second first down of this second half tommy walsh on the tackle they are done sam houston and north dakota state the bison fourth down incomplete and that'll do it the number two national seed sam houston does advance to the national semifinals in the fcs playoffs as graham scampers out of bounds for no game so here's a look at the bracket north dakota state falls to sam houston sam houston will face either jmu or north dakota that game coming up what's going on right now on espn2 and later on tonight south dakota state and the salukis not eastern on espn2 full day of fcs quarterfinals just eight remaining entering the day [Music] and seven remaining officially right now [Applause] sixth play of the drive longest drive of the day for jacksonville state graham's going to throw this one out of bound seeing matt we've got to have more sense of urgency here if we're trying to win the game which i assume we are i can't just sit back there building snowballs i've got to get out and then i can't just throw the ball away so nonchalantly here you've got to try to do something for your team we've seen how dangerous graham can be as a runner his just his mental clock has to speed up and that'll come with time that'll come with experience a very young player that has had less than ideal you know practice for this situation but a guy that as he progresses and grows has got to figure that piece out and that one is complete to a man whose name that we didn't call enough today for obvious reasons trey berry and that is their first third down conversion of the afternoon one for 11. 173 yards of offense now so that will not be the fewest number of total yards in a postseason game in program history season still alive minute 19 to go [Applause] a.c graham good for barry again well out of bounds and into the kicking net [Applause] big berry trying to get out in space there in the corner just ran out of real estate again such a dynamic tight end you'd love to see him getting more over the middle i know where we are with the clock but in college when you get a first down the clock stops and so you have that time where you can have that big body going over the middle trying to get to the sticks instead of limiting him with space and preventing him from going anywhere with having the sideline as your enemy right there [Applause] just 173 yards of offense for jacksonville state today graham's gonna throw this one out of bounds on third and ten they're not one of 12 on third down conversions and i'll bring up fourth down [Music] another thing that's so interesting to see with this quarterback is is that you gotta understand the situation it's third and ten a minute left you cannot throw the ball away you also need to stop rolling to your left you're a right-handed quarterback you've shown that you know it's difficult to throw against your body there again a very young player he's going to figure it out has the sk the skills the the the skill set the tools to be great but a tough learning experience for him today against the best defense in fcs his father was a wide receiver with georgia played for the new england patriots as well graham heaving that one down the field looking for a flag and there is a flag that pass intended for jared scott the senior wideout who does not have a catch on the season captain appearance number 16 defense 15-yard penalty automatic first down you see the contact here and where he's going to get penalized is how late he's looking back for the ball and and not allowing the receiver to make you know any kind of play here you know stopping his contact good physical route by both of them but at the end of the day they're going to flag you for that every time [Music] first down and 10 now a.c graham looking for room to run brought down from behind that's nick coomer redshirt freshman out of pennsylvania with another tackle here today jacksonville they take their third and final timeout of the half 32nd timeout well jacksonville state was a slight favorite entering the day but if you told folks that you wouldn't have zion webb maybe that would have changed this is a very good delaware team coming into today and certainly a storied program they won the 2003 national championship their six-time national champ won three titles in the 70s have not won a road playoff game since 2007 when they won back-to-back weeks on the road to advance to the fcs championship game and now an opportunity here to advance to the semifinals under head coach danny rocco danny rocco brought some winning ways back to delaware won four big south titles at liberty a couple conference titles at richmond this is his fifth fcs playoff appearance took the took liberty to the semifinals back in 2015. he's 49 seconds away from taking delaware to the semi finals a.c graham looking to the end zone touchdown jared scott from 27 yards out first catch of the season and that makes things a little more interesting here the final 40. how about that you see graham again just being patient trying to get out of the way and then boom finds his big 6-6 receiver and how about that matt you talk about your first catch of the season coming at the most important time for your team oh by the way it's for a touchdown now things are going to get a little bit interesting you kick this onside kick if you get it whole new ball game confidence at an all-time high got to think that you can extend this game and even go down and win it and check that for jared scott nine more than none before that catch that was his 10th his 10th catch you repeated it i gave you bad info jared scott with his 10th catch of the season that goes for a touchdown and so now through jacksonville state obviously going to employ the onside kick what was your favorite onside kick what which ones work at least a higher percentage than zero uh not many of them not many of them it's an interesting thing where if you have a kicker that can you know kick it with his back leg if he's a guy that can really just show that misdirection you know we've seen some crazy thing ha crazy things happen college football man it's the greatest sport in the world and we're seeing potentially why with a chaotic finish right here at the end give jacksonville state a ton of credit this is a team that is playing its 13th game of the season played four in the fall finished in the spring with their conference slate it has been a long slog beginning in october now here we are with an opportunity to keep it going with this outside kick and that one is smothered by [Music] [Applause] delaware [Applause] the safeties are to this game and this defense how about a safety going down and getting this ball to seal the deal potentially crazier things have happened but being able to secure this ball for his team 40 seconds left you've got to be feeling good about your chances and advancing getting that road playoff victory for the first time in a very long time joe zubaliga the redshirt sophomore seals the deal for delaware [Music] and now the best formation the victory formation as nolan henderson takes a knee [Applause] and here's a look at the bracket delaware will face either siu or sdsu coming up in the semi finals in six days they begin in six days could play on sunday as well you see the two head coaches shaking hands coach grosso and coach rocco and that will do it jacksonville state did what it could without its starting quarterback for much of this game delaware gets the win eric in a good performance and good enough for the blue hens no question defense wins championships you get into a playoff setting you want your defense feeling really good and that's what they've done so far impressive to say the least what we saw from delaware their first road playoff win since 2007 delaware off to the semifinals so long you
