make a three in a row he's the big 12 second leading rusher he's the nation's most efficient passer most 34 touchdowns lead college football and his Brockman should off at the top has already become a big-time leader for this program you've selected a team captain right after transferring in from Alabama usually a lead by example guy but becoming more and more vocal here in his first and only season and I think this offensive line is gonna be poised for a breakout games and I create Humphrey right in the middle been banged up bunch of the boys were banged up emphasize that run and he's a good center and on that perimeter while it's athleticism explosiveness all over the place highlighted by the 11 touchdowns a CD lamb place is getting third in the country in that category which puts tamari within one the number carries that he had in the loss against Kansas State used the Iowa State defense red leymah right in the middle is a two-time captain as a junior college transfer he's got a tough duty to try to stand his ground Marcel Spears is the leading tackler a three year starter tremendous sideline to sideline and keep an eye on Anthony Johnson they love to use him five tackles for loss on the season three plays that he matches his total from the Kansas State game house one of the big questions around here why why were there just six carries for the running backs and will there be more moving for I think you answered that question this script pretty clear we can Riley faces not a lot of bodies in there for the Cyclones they try to limit the big play down the field well coverage but that shows the kind of confidence Jalen has in CD Liam just give your stars a chance to make you look good even it triple coverage [Applause] fence in the country 49 points per game and have done it with big play after big play against Kansas State they threw a short and lamb turned it into a big play himself here he goes up and gets it beating triple coverage and the Sooners in front early [Music] so we get our first Iowa State's offense the plays but he will give the Sooners an opportunity with the game to begin their strength very deep at that position and the true freshman offensive line is probably the most improved group in the Matt Campbell he's played right tackle Center bounced out to left and having a tremendous year and Bree Saul has been a revelation been a dynamic playmaker is a true freshman exactly what they need to mix in with their past is explosive run descent for perdy all motions across the formation a couple of things that we've seen all season first of all Brock Bertie put it into a dangerous spot and second of all Oklahoma having a take away that didn't happen yeah they've only got six all year I've not had one of these since late September it's right into the [Music] [Applause] third down now Verdi out of a clean [Applause] incomplete is looking for his tight end Charlie Coulter couldn't hang on for the second time in nine games this season Oklahoma delivers a three and out on the first possession this is a nickel back here Radley miles he's come on a little bit of fire but he does a good job play in the ball and you see the hand get in there that's the matchup they want that's six six on five ten that is the go-to receiver downs but immediately Oklahoma doing something they didn't do two weeks ago and that is win for play touchdown drive for Oklahoma three and out and then a punt of juice 27 yards that here comes Jalen Hertz and the offense again 41 loss Kansas State and trying to avoid back-to-back losses this is unbelievable they've lost back-to-back regular season games since 1999 as Bob Stoops first season the next longest streak can be not lost back-to-back games Alabama that goes back to 2008 that's ridiculous [Applause] Charleston Rambo in motion straight against Kansas State and they down a little bit differently so far in this game for an offense averaging nine and a half yards per play which would break their record I mean that's just ludicrous and one of the things we talked with Lincoln advised everybody get in enough touches right these running backs have not gotten this number of cares of course the season they've been so doggone explosive fake the Brooks [Music] [Music] micros ultimately gets there and it'll be third down and that's what the scheme is supposed to do that's what the touchdown pass was supposed to do is take away those explosive plays down the field and make a little bit something he's very comfortable doing but that's supposed to be the chess match in a express themselves parotid a season-high 19 times in the loss at Kansas State [Music] mas was his fault 395 yards through the air with a touchdown and bunch on the ground as well take advantage of the underlaying through the defense to make it first and goal so put a mr. number-one receiver in trips to let him run right down the field or you know what just running to the to urinal [Music] gain and it's third down we talked about Oklahoma trying to find some takeaways for consecutive games without one six total this season that's one thing for any team that's bad but especially when fourth down with the coverage from deliriant Turner yell are you seen two third downs and a concentrated effort here to not just play coverage something they did way too much up against Kansas they they've been tremendous on third were on third down going into that Wildcats game and then to me they just played coverage to just cover grass they didn't attack the ball Turner Yale gets it done that time the previous third down it was Radley high as those are winning here one-on-one situations well you talk about Clemson looking like a team upset that it was left out of the top four in the Stephenson he didn't even have a carry against Kansas State it only has ten of them over the last three games total oh that was a really good job by the left side of the line Erik sweats it in particular mowing down if you're gonna play three down and there's gonna be just five cyclones in the box and it's incumbent on those big five guys up front to not only win those battles but wash them than his share of like standout receivers when he was at Texas Tech he had Michael Crabtree and here he's at Hollywood Brown and Dede Westbrook but he told me that CD litem is different than anyone he's ever coached he said he is the best he's had getting off the line with his releases he's the best downfield blocker and he's the best after the catch he said he's really special and he says because he works so hard at his craft junior out of Richmond Texas but the all-time leading receivers fear two seasons that's the first catch for their second leading receiver Charleston Rambo who goes for five and its third down and it's usually what the great ones at that position do they don't just show up on Saturdays receivers do they love to practice do they want to take Scout team reps do they always work their craft and CD checks every one of those boxes it feels really early to say this is a big play for Ohio State's defense but it sure does seem like that was an opportunity for a pick six for Gregg eyes worth they'll settle for forcing the punt but it was good night had he gotten his hands on that yeah now this is a veteran and you can see it he knows that he really baits Jalen here into this throw he plays the inside slant he passes it off and that's the play you have to make if you're Matt Campbell you're out on the road you get Jalen you don't fully have very often especially a senior with as much experience as Hertz has under his belt but the captain the all league performer does everything right but finish hardly played over the last three games is dealt with a shoulder injury get rid of it in a fair catch that's 12 yard line after a 33 yard punt take advantage two back three announce two begins Riley stay they've got a wide open balls swinging out of the backfield here for their first first down to the game to the 31 Taj has shown what he can do on the ground he's been really good out of the backfield catching the ball as his role as increased the last three game this is a bust any time you've got two defenders covering one guy and voiding space that's some miscommunication and cyclones take advantage that was a completion Brock desperately needed you did that third down stop [Applause] tackle brace maker in these situations and just a quarterback you want to find completions that matters for your freshman if your senior like Jalen and just feeling you know it's kind of like you don't get that first out in baseball you just that first strike you throw you just get yourself into rhythm a big third down stop from Campbell's crew defensively and finally a completion for party Ronnie Perkins was their first naval Gallimore ate up about four cyclones right in the middle big dude on six to 300 Neville Gallimore 90 for the Sooners and a perfect fit in this scheme came over from Arkansas first and only season at Iowa State he's got his first catch tonight 423 and once again you get this much green grass you're not communicating defensively the Cyclones love to run shallow process knocks it away that time nobody runs with the shallow cross those are two pretty easy completions for this crew the crew by the way that then get blown out the three years since they've been beaten by more than 14 points are not surprised to see them respond to some early adversity they're only three programs in the country that can say that that they've not been beaten by more than two touchdowns over the last three years these are true [Applause] first intent here's Paul Paul spins his way close to a first down it's thrown down by Laurent Stokes he does have enough for another cyclone first down and I know it's the jersey number but he just reminds me of Curtis Martin even and obviously Curtis a whole favor so Kurt well before the horse here but just as far as his movements he collides a true freshman that makes it look pretty easy here's the fastest receiver I was sure point is good try brown with a chance to return this for [Music] for another break you need to be to the team that throws that pay maker as you put it [Applause] that is the third missed opportunity for an Iowa State DB this one belong to Lawrence white play these guys in this situation where you could make that play and those are the plays the Wildcats made two weeks ago they had to pick six if you're going to beat an opponent like this in their building those guys who have one of those missed opportunities potential pick six shoulder he is playing banged up the practice a bunch of games this year is gonna be something that will bother him all season long probably something they'll have to take care of after the season the John Hancock knows when that guy is on the field it's a different group he just settles everyone down and makes everybody around him better not too often you see guys transfer in from a junior college first-team all-conference his first year team captain unanimous choice from his teammates the next year it stopped by Lawrence way that's interesting now a couple runs here following a couple near misses and Lincoln Riley is a really good play caller on the Cylons I think he's one of the best in college football if you just watching Jalen right now three different occasions play with fire not getting birds but very easily could have three interceptions just not seeing the entirety of that coverage on the back end for Iowa State so I clumb seven and third and long here third down nine there's the motion man [Applause] shifting his way for first down yardage but there is a flag down it looks like it maybe on Oklahoma you watch that move how many different times and you think eventually these defenders are not going to fall for that [Applause] through the center yeah he just tackles ray Lima the nose tackle the two-time captain those are gonna be two big old grizzly bears that are gonna be fun to watch right here in the middle of the action a little stunt right into Creed and it's the hands outside and it's this two point take down right here I think ultimately draws the penalty after Jalen shakes warrants right out of the shoes that's about a 20 [Music] a tremendous amount of speed as you see Morris move the chains and really take advantage of very very soft cover [Applause] throughout the day and ultimately I think that's the right call much more difficult calls over the course of what was just an awesome day to sit and watch college football and those late for both of these teams they're each into playing Baylor TCU before today amazing catch surveillance hunt looked like the game was over eventually was the same out cover would have been had he not caught up is still incredible drama in that game in Fort Worth on fs1 ad Miller who's got his first catch since the second game of the season for the conflict to talk about watch 44 the middle linebacker here it's a run it's a pass Jalen oat falls back and he's gonna throw that ball right over here what do you do you catch the ball when it's thrown to you three different times and you get off the field on third and 16 yeah that's what you do you don't wait for those moments are early downs those are the situations you've got to take advantage of from bridges and an easy run of 80 yards last time I was they give up 14 or more points in the first quarter actually wound up okay it's the last thing they came here came from behind is a 31-point dog to win 38 31 it's the biggest win on the road at Iowa State history its third ranked Oklahoma that day Baker Mayfield went on to win the Heisman that season [Music] yeah that's the first quarter that's just not overly complicated right before Iowa State they are very clear in their messaging of how they need to win games teams in long yardage situations in the coffin tackle and make the plays there have been a number of them ready to begin the second quarter what stands out to you so far about 9.2 yards per play being below the season average for Oklahoma Hill in their average 9.2 a play on pace for 880 pretty pretty good threatening again two touchdowns on two drives have got a second and four here from the six it's hurts what room this time and third down coming out of a really nice play by Jamal Johnson the nose tackle he and Ray Lima two seniors that rotate in and out for this defense Peterson Johnson Lima those guys have got to be able to do what Johnson just did and that is get off blocks [Applause] [Applause] just pause for some real success here down the stretch guys never really armored this just you one-on-one but on the other side creating those matchups and those situations that you like that's your freshman wide receiver on Braxton Lewis with a whole bunch of field to work with and Jalen just give a jump ball now loop and let him go dunk and finish a part of the reason bridges hadn't done anything in terms of receptions the last few games that they've toyed with him on defense playing in that DB some full-time receivable [Applause] reciever recruits who talking about part of this freshman class is gonna touch down to make it 21-7 three drives three scores for another dime programs have met 83 times Oklahoma has 175 of them that's the best winning percentage of any FBS program against an opponent I'm gonna get your chances Joe you've got to take advantage and unfortunately Iowa State just has not done that here 13:31 right here in Norman two years ago Oklahoma went to Ames last season and beat him 37 [Music] sliders that you've got to do damage with the myriad of skills that he's got saw some of the patients some of the vision and then the burst for a gain of 16 big-time recruit he had multiple opportunities the Michigan's of the world came calling but this was his first offer he stayed loyal to it I think the development of others around him in particular Korea not David McCumber in this system and the true freshman's made it look easy he's got tremendous vision and then you love the acceleration through contact as well there comes the completely internal yell at a chance at it as Jones the high school quarterback [Music] [Music] [Applause] this one the true freshman just falls flat on his face Jaden Davis is charged you can see the man-to-man coverage here right they love these shallow crosses Jaden missed the tackle on the touchdown earlier and that's an advantage Iowa State that's the six to two hundred thirty five pound Arkansas transfer not a perfect throw from birdie that what makes him look good but the true freshman Davis Falls Iowa State takes a damage but the Assembly's far back into the game after one play [Applause] there's a flag down likely for a whole these Pat fields brings Purdy down I like that call I like it more around the 10 yard line he's a good runner he is and you know I think a block in the back here any significant penalty the other way and he's pulling around the whole timing of that play was just off as you see the captain could get fooled the right guard he pulls around and he just pushes motley right in the back there was nowhere for Purdy to run that play was designed to go up inside Oklahoma outnumbers it out leverages it and the play penalized teams in the country back to back here and already one shy of their game average you've got three penalties here in the first half and that was the center who flinches because I think he team grant Wistrom Rucker Christian Peter them dudes getting under center and just here in the breeze to go and when Oklahoma's going and when they've were successful for six seven weeks of this season it was those big boys up front Stokes and Gallimore and Murray just fly into the football those guys said the short jerseys right showing off the abs second down 25 would have been a tough catch but it's one that more often than not he's made this season perfect job on the back end of this are we asked Alex great sweet he got mismatches physically what's the board he said to win early in the Dow meeting to get your body right on it but if you don't then you have to separate that big receiver from the ball it motley does it textbook gets his head out of the way puts the shoulder the 33 is an injured Iowa State lineman fourth and 14 you're going for him I've kind of that in-between range in this situation too actually I think just decided that they're going to accept the favorable situation Iowa State for seniors up front they play really hard but you're just playing to the athleticism of Perkins and Gallimore and these guys when they know there's no run threat in part of college football union 13 national titles over the last 27 years and they are 8 noded season ranked number one in the country 14 right when he stepped onto the the field are you in that program a big reason hey I think they had so much success and then be that these guys are built for future success another conference title Burks pre-treating Truong able to make in this and you're right at the first down marker see Oklahoma buys into it to Bruce's point players formations plays they just happen to recruit my golf forward by star players many formations actually let's just create space come in first keeps it he's got a first down that's just the x-factor that is so hard from a number standpoint Matt Campbell's excellent his D coordinator John Hancock is awesome and on the chalkboard you could watch all the X's and O's and it makes sense that you could say okay this number in this end you know cancels out of this player but then all of a sudden well number ones left overwhelmed with everything that comes with being a first year college student not even just a first year college football player does he got acclimated started to practice better really increased his role a few games ago Charlie Lange replaces him really just gets in the grass on first down from the 46 laying off the right side carried it just twice the last game and has seen his role diminishes haulage taking off goes for 24 yeah he gives Turner yell a little Jalen hurt shimmy right here watch a little move on situations together that's against pretty good tackler take your time [Music] Lane ordered here three consecutive runs by Iowa State late flag here personal safety Pat fields penalties have been an issue for Lincoln Riley's team this season most of his team in the conference Kansas State a couple weeks ago for their second one today but it moves the ball inside the 15 [Applause] sniff days wait for you there's the flag down as he goes into the endzone for the touchdown but a flag back around the line of scrimmage I think that's gonna be a hold holding Kenneth Murray not allowing him to get free and make a play [Music] holding offense [Applause] now watch Kenneth Murray here the leading tackler for the Sooners and you're just gonna see his jersey get tugged amidst the chaos that's what those umpires are trained to do this is one of my favorite officiating crews in the conference and that's the tales that they look for they see the jersey tucked you don't allow Murray to go do what he does best go finish your gun fortunately for I was taking a wife six points off the board I ran some big penalties on the Cyclones here in the first half wipes away that touchdown moves it all the way back to the 23 falls back in the game I'm gonna pull your hair out here's the vertical but this is the problem there's a corner blitz and there's nobody to cover I mean that is just an absolute bust once again we have seen these coverage voids for Oklahoma a lack of communication early safeties trying to communicate to everybody whom to cover that is not that exotic but a corner blitz at the wrong time miscommunication and cyclones of critical seven seems this time scrimmage as well [Music] and sex back at the six by Marcel Spears [Applause] not seen this a lot tonight that initial penetration the good job I really ma but can feeding your block in this game if you couldn't defeat those situations it's it's for those development but if you can you allows Spears and crew to run right behind you in creep they where negative play against the Sooners given is been that remarkably Matt Campbell's team has won three of its last four against the top ten yeah when I asked him or if he made the most growth in your program he did not hesitate he said our belief the belief that we can go into Norma to win because we've done it in the guys know just in the culture of the program what it takes to get it done [Applause] miss but Perkins didn't get back to the line of scrimmage and it's third down and thought that sense of belief really was instilled but that one here two years ago I said you know you come in and take over program you talk about your vision but for that vision to become a reality that guys can trust you got to get a win like they had [Applause] and tight coverage across the board for the Sooners they bring only four so Purdy has time and heaves it in complete definitive Shante Jones make it a call for the penalty here and there were two big third down penalties at k-state two weeks ago of this variety of pass interference to hold on third and 15 Plus that extended those drives just too handsy those third and long pickups for Kansas State as big a story is anything [Applause] that Kim will does not like that at all but I do like the conversation it's a true freshman - the hands affect the router did Shantae just simply slip I think fair communication there my guess is those two officials said now you know deshante slipped
