2019/08/01 - Modern: Saheeli Amulet

alright we got a real spicy one today so hope that everybody enjoys it we got Sahil e amulet this is a donation list and this was donated by one of the regular viewers of the stream by the name Grug and they wanted me to play this pile that we see over here so we have some interesting card choices as well as you know some deck construction requirements that we have to go through but hopefully everything will work out first of all yes we're playing we're playing prime time okay we're playing or a regular amulet chill with our bounce lancer amulets primeval Titans some RAM in the form of great our oil gray sir and as souza as most of you are gonna be well aware of i don't really like this card however there's there's a very strong incentive to play this base over tribe scout in in this particular list in order to a help protect the planeswalker in second of all be able to play a silly Ryan turn to with a higher reliability so first thing to be aware of is the process of sashimi and Philadelphian does stretch our mana base right now we're playing straight up four colors in our main deck because of this we had to make some concessions and we see either hub and triple crumbling vestige this is the split that a grog decided to go with I don't know if maybe we should be doing two and two and again I didn't want to make any changes to the list before I actually know how it plays out but I do agree that we definitely need to make the man a little bit more flexible of course this cost us discussed us in in our utility lines right we these are the serve area cost but hopefully will enable a different angle of an infinite combo that we can enable just by naturally drawing it or thanks to finale of devastation the question is whether we want to play finale of devastation or Illidan Briscoe both of them are reasonable choices I think that going for finale gives us like a more basically just like a stronger more robust card number skull it's a little bit harder to cast but it should enable us to to set up affiliate or guardian with less mana right both of them are going to cost over all six mana to get with the exception that thanks to other number school we can split those six men amongst two different terms so maybe that is relevant I don't know we are going to see how its it ends up working out but for now we're gonna go with the finalists and the rest of the meta base is pretty much what you expect to see in in an amulet shell we do have a couple of ancients earrings of course they're gonna be worse in this version of the deck than in others because it's not gonna be able to find walking ballista and we're only playing one explosives playing one relic and playing only 27 lens instead of the usual 28 and only four amulets so we only have are gonna have 33 targets which is less than you often see still it's such a powerful contract that it makes sense to play a couple of them maybe we should be playing something else I could even see potentially adding another Asuza but with the country of choice is gonna be out of Nissa which makes a lot of sense because it's gonna help us Casa Healy right it gives us something to blink with a little guardian for value and also it's going to you know just make castings Akili right considerably easier so I definitely do like the inclusion of the four oath of nYSSA's I know King canterna this is this is a very big cost in the current meta game so we're deaf the cost is a bhag bhag the the payoff is we actually have an infinite combo in our deck that we can put together SLES turn three so yeah I guess you're gonna have to balance those out and see which one you like best so hopefully we're gonna get there against against the her like menaced thanks to thanks to this combo because if we are able to assemble it you know how lock doesn't really play any main deck 8 so it should be it should be cool anything else we want to talk about the main deck in the main deck I don't think so I like the inclusion of the one of pact of course helping us protect our combo playing one less summoners pact might be troublesome I understand the decision of wanting to play finale instead of the fourth pack because finally finds the other combo piece instead of just you know some respect only finds the prime time but I I didn't want to make any changes before we actually you know kind of try it out and see how the lease plays out but I think that's that's all I want to talk about in terms of the main deck now when it comes to the sideboard we have both a path to exile and cosine X return as our removal suite I like the paths maybe the creatures are gonna be a little bit greedy I mean it's just what we're gonna see how hard cuz they are and again this is even more of a reason to you want to you know make your mana base a little bit more flexible right but the K returns and the ability to insist it makes me want to err to the tortoise side of a door hub instead of wanting to earth-2 as towards the side of crumbling vestige and we're going to see whether that comes up or not but that is definitely one thing you can see there especially with another one of her removal spell is instance base and SSB removal spell we're gonna see if that comes into play and then we have another pact of negation second toxification again the idea is we wanna go we want to be able to protect our infinite combo so we're gonna see how that works out and then our classics are classic heavy hitters in rex age against artifacts and enchantments no hyperox agains like bgx john and all those all those Tex and Hornet queen for humans affinity etc and then we have our utility Lance which of course they find their space in the cyber because there's no room for them in the main deck because again a four-color concessions that we needed to make and then we have our grave hate walk EB and all-star and every done done explosives in the sideboard for the matchups where we want to draw those and the it did the list definitely is promising right like it just looks pretty freakin sweet and I'm excited to see how it plays out so let's get this this league going but yeah I'm excited about this mulligan we are lacking in just lands overall and there basically it's not really getting us anywhere so I think you've got a mulligan and this hand seems significantly better right I think we're gonna go for the Titan game plan here just bought on the sahibi right don't want chalice for one alright so I'm very happy that I bought him that previous hand cuz it was gonna be super freakin slow it's nice that this also slows my opponent down which is cool nice for somatic based I've been able to fetch for both a mountain and a waist value brutal brutal so we're not gonna be able to catch this one so I think it's better for us to go for the city growth chamber here so now we're gonna be able to play as soon as I get full value from her and then if we draw most lens we're gonna be able to tighten them next turn oh do they have another spirit guy yet I did alright bye bye Azusa bad beats that's that is that is a dagger I really is it a girl Maya but I just had the Nutter butters all right take six chalice and zero sure we're gonna be wandering short one turn two short of stabilizing I guess we can find like County garden would be sweet nope one run two short the good thing is that my opponent did not see our tech so that's cool we have the warm rack sage Hornet queen this guy out bring in paths I don't think I want ghosts were so similarly to how we approach the matchup with with the druid versions of the deck I think I would imagine that when the primetime match when the primetime aspect of the deck is so strong I would imagine that we don't want to be messing around with this part of the deck and with just rather with just rather basically be a slightly worse primetime deck I think this is what I want to try out go squirter I don't think it's better than any of the other lands we're playing and k return distance seem good if we had fire spouts maybe I would play that I don't think I would so I think I'm just going to play a second explosives it's between second explosives ballista and finale it's it's probably one of these three maybe the finale alright let's try this again I like this n skip unfortunately out of nyssa significantly worse now that we the nation series now that we don't have access to this there's a Chili's so for the most the six quarter not better than fountain no no very much now in fact a radium fountain would add I guess not in this precise last game but it's one of those cars that sometimes allows you to get one more roof look at that value from my opponent to sometimes get just that one crucial extra turn that you need in order to to get there I think I'm gonna yeah I just could gonna go see my growth here I'm not gonna be able to all of Mesa this turn unfortunately that is probably just fine though they see me growth past the turn and now hopefully no tks just please cast your eternal scourge Oh Oh yep legendary land I know it's weird I know it's weird my opponent said they'd click the wrong land that's brutal for them yeah that's probably gonna be that's probably gonna be game over for us now so we're gonna sequence this like this Susa first and then t-west and kremlin vestige and i know that i could have played the amulet my phone has a blast zone in play so I don't know whether I want to honestly and here we're definitely picking the Hornet queen so now we're going to be able to like this game is over even if my opponent chalices I can tighten them next turn because if they chalice that means that they can do anything else and if they TK yes me now they have like whichever one they choose it just doesn't matter we're just gonna play the other one so they're probably gonna get the priming all tied in here at least that would be the correct pick yes st strain but we're playing against the deck where where the where this Akili plan it's probably significantly worse than our primetime plan so we are setting out this Achilles and the filly to the Guardian but yeah you can see the decklist here interesting pick especially with the blast so I I guess that my opponents dead anyway so it doesn't really matter this is just impossible for them to overcome basically so it's not like my opponent's decisions matter there so we're gonna do crumbling best stage and say make rose board Carson City growth bouncing this and bouncing this ladies out and sanctuary sure past the turn if my opponent attacks I'm not going to block with the prime time and then they're probably gonna lose from there yep just concede make sense any changes so go scooter is effectively making my opponent go they show that they're slashing red so I'm expecting like basic Mountains same thing with waists and go square is basically gonna be either destroying a mostly irrelevant blast zone like they want that my opponent had over there or it's going to be destroying in a sea temple taking my opponent from like four mana to three so I don't think it's worth it as much as the other lands which helped me guess my spells or help me stabilize so I think we're gonna go with the same list here only you think I could see is adding the second explosives in place of the finale because of chalice but that's pretty much it how you miss this train and yeah you never need to worry about about asking for the decklist yeah this is not a keep unfortunately this one is gonna keep and I think I'm gonna bottom this layer stronghold my part most five so unless my opponent chalasis me for a one-on-one we're gonna be in a very good spot okay they kept six no chalice for a one-on-one sweet great for us make it blue mana for value tks would be a little bit annoying this guy's irrelevant Hornet queen issues steering's for solicit sexual represents a white source so sure I'll get Donna I could really use some RAM right here I could really use some ramp right here redundant scourge it's not doing much I think I am going to pass one of them because it doesn't give them a land and because I want the time Asuza a real gray sir I guess that one works too alright that was that this is a sweet spot for this greater right here so we're actually going to make some green mana lay the gray sir lay this sanctuary and now we have both white source and a way to interact with my opponents cards so if they tell Attica yes I can I can pass it and I am still representing Titan man and extern in fact I could just pass my own gray sir if I wanted to yeah I think I would like to give leave myself that option going to 11 is not particularly relevant against my opponent which whose - of path numeric there it's because of this member of course but now I can i I can know that my opponent does not have this member which is cool that blast zone is just not gonna be good enough here I end up losing this kind of matchup is because of precisely this guard so they would need a second red source and they can and they can remain at me what can I do I can't even hold a path because unless I just like set myself behind yeah opponent played well I I feel like I want to hold that path to exile in case of another one of these dudes cuz if my buddy has a second one of this I die so this is very awkward would I rather have access to sanctuary or Boros garrison I think the garrison is better now I'm gonna to go for the sanctuary yeah I'm very awkward that this is my only because we're gonna be able to add to Casa Healy hopefully you find a cellular guardian no failure failure Guardians still I think this is awkward but I think I would like the untapped source honestly attacking with plant obviously for value it feels like the only way that I can win this game now there's gonna be five combo offered Sahil e blast zone sure towers there second brother you got it and now yeah I don't think that one's gonna be good enough honestly I feel like Sahil II kinda just needs to find the but say he only needs to find it's a little Guardian here bottom the basic forest something very good we're gonna be gonna be a very solid spot here but they need they need something good here there has to be about green creature that does differ they're done in effect no there got a little bit carried away cuz I forgot that the second item actually gets haste so yeah really reading card says that we can still do some stuff here in fact I should have done that with this I so I made another mistake I should have after I made the first mistake I should have gotten crumbling vestage we would have allowed me to play the amulet so I think I want to do that now because I was trying to like play around the do stone that my original plan was try to figure out a way to set up an advantage that forces my opponent to crack the o stone and then try to try to take it from there but I didn't realize that I had actually lethal here yeah yeah we definitely we definitely missed a little line there was lethal here for sure now we're making ourselves work extra hard unfortunately and at this point I don't want to expose the amulet so we're gonna go with a different line so we're basically just gonna set up all my stuff and then next year and after my opponent cracks the o stone I'm going to set up I'm going to set up some some like unsurmountable advantage thanks to back to Finnegan so I'm interested in getting oh like my blue sources into play and stuff in this turn and next turn post post oh crack we can do we can do a lot of stuff yeah there was 100% leaf online they're playing the amulet and copying the amulet playing the amulet and then playing this the Titan and then copying the Titan was another line so we had multiple lethal lines there nice so this is probably going to force the o stone crack and then we're gonna have lethal all right so I guess I'm gonna crack on attack step which I guess makes sense bounce this no need to play my lands we're just gonna go to combat opponent cracks oh they don't crack Oh stone what the hell at this point I'm assuming that my opponent is like mentally checked out or something because like when we go to beginning of combat step I can't kill them anymore so there's no reason for them to let me get four lengths out of my deck and I don't want to expose this layer so who that's why I'll leave it in my deck like my body's gonna force to crack now because they yeah this is useful for them yeah yeah so this is this is me just trying out the deck and not being particularly aware of all the interactions and stuff well yeah but like I said this multiple times with Ted there was very little line over there available to us that I just missed in my hastiness okay the other thing now is that we if we want to play this Aikido we actually have to pay the real mana cost so setup act of negation play honestly which is that the card is pretty bad by itself like if you're not doing something else besides the Cobra it's it's just not a great car like it just ramps but like we are just so good at ramp in anyway so we found the t-west this represents it Titan unless my opponent has a chalice for 0 this turn which they may have but if they don't have a chance for 0 then we're going to be we're gonna be in a very good spot I didn't bring in a GTO right yes I did all right so my opponent has strong setup no chalice please sweet or I can just naturally draw Tite oh that's that's easier never didn't habits garrison stronghold replay protect stronghold attack yes son home cynic now I think this is fine I was I was trying to think if I might have made a mistake because of exposing myself to Karn plus bridge plus chalice for zero exactly like that exact sequence but I am actually not exposed to it so it's fine always dust unbeatable one two three well I guess I can't haste so that is kind of annoying I mean I'm gonna be able to go score of them anyway but still I can't haste one two three one two three four five six and we'll be okay this pact for this play this go squirter and could get another semi growth or I can just get another two Larry West draw step we're gonna destroy the mine that should be enough to win the game that's a wonder they fetch for why don't we have teetering Peaks do have twenty damaged item because it's unnecessary first of all and second of all because it's a terrible card to play your amulet deck it's a non it said enter the battlefield tapped land that are not that doesn't up for green and whenever you have any car that is that bad then it's really really tough to justify playing the card I've tried an amulet before it was cool to be able to double show you what I mean that I turn a lot sooner you mean about the you mean the Cobras this train right yeah they're the card is not very good though it to my not to one it's not what you want to do but Yakko Nana I just think that it's unnecessary it's a bad card and it's just unnecessary so there's there's no real reason to play it so this hand is fine as long as we find as long as we find a lens if we do we're gonna be in a really good spot okay that's that's a terrible draw that's it very very bad draw and because I have a redundant Gracie I think I'm gonna use this turn to like I'm gonna hold the land for this turn because if I draw an amulet it's just so much better for me to hold the violin in hand in fact it's going to give me a turn three tighten it turn to tighten right so I play amulet i play my line for turn go square one two three four five so I think what is the line here first of all question number one is do I respect the natural Tron because if I were expecting actual try need to blow up my opponent's land right now second of all is do I want to play gray sir or do I wanna play a soos I think I want to play a Sousa skite doesn't do anything like what is skites doing skite stops the haste but that's it right it's just like I don't really care like prime time is still a six six trembler so this guy doesn't really do much I think it's a fine card against us but it's a fine card if you are like really drawn in me if you are playing for fours prime time still blocks just the same yeah but it like it's Bru if my opponent's gonna be like he's gonna have a sec I didn't play to prevent me from hasting and then he's gonna like drop a card like big boy car and then he's gonna kill my Titan and then then they follow in turn same thing I play my dude and then my opponent place another card and that's what I think that sky this is problematic but so I think I am NOT gonna respect the natural drawn and I'm going to just reset my gemstone mine here if we draw the other way wait we get very very punished for making this play but if we draw any land that tops that gives me man I returned the turn it comes into play so any any end taps or they just said that's wrote wrong okay so there was no way to play it for me to play around this right is just because we turn when I kill they just like mad for that one now they are still the same spot so there's no way for me to play around that unfortunately may I I mean I think that if we if we resolve the primetime we're going to win and if my opponent figures out a way to present enough material before the primetime comes down then we're gonna be just fine we can packed for 4xh if my opponent tries to go for uh okay that's a thought not so they're probably gonna get there take the primetime here I don't want have sick to see they if they H Allison zero that I want to make sure that I packed in response get another Titan cuz I can still I can still pay for my packed my next turn all right so my bonus turn through drawn is not particularly threatening honestly like I was I would have been way more afraid of like a car and Great Creator or land please sweet this one counts Playland bounce replay green summoners backed but for prime time prime time I see this well Scott is not doing anything really set up my I guess I can't sit up at Titan Hall I can't set up another Titan because I don't have any more time I do have one more pact okay sweet good to know and now we pass it turn yes so Matthias you are correct you're definitely correct however where does that get me and the cost for me is huge right because the cost for me is that if I draw a line I cannot cast my Titan like sacrificing the ghost water costs me a very very big deal so oh I guess and my opponent can just have the nuts yeah kiss night I died - my upkeep pact because of the lattice whomp-whomp yeah but this is what I'm what I was saying like my opponent needed to have the perfect here right now and this is what I was saying that I was not particularly threatened by the thought not but I was more threatening by something like a car and yeah they are not working out for me obviously but if I had not if I had not if I had destroyed their Tron piece then I would have not had access to Titan Nana on the turn that I cast a Titans so that means that the title would have been delayed one more turn which again gives them the turn to assemble Tron again so it doesn't really get me anywhere right but yeah so I think that that is I don't think that is something that we could have played around I don't think I mean the only way to play around is just like assume that my opponent doesn't have it and oh no we could have play around it damn yeah we could have actually played around it because we could have balanced the ghost scooter a weakened up yeah I I told him is that we could have bounced they go squirter and replay the ghost water so yeah I guess I guess it was a punt I guess it was a punt actually so bounce land represents turn three tighten on the temper tighten on the play is that good enough I guess it kind of is hopefully yeah so I guess it is I guess it was a pond because I could have prevented that from happening to me and so the play was to balanced it go squirter and replay it with the third Azusa with a third SSL and drop and that way I could have prevented Trump from happening and they could have prevented exactly that play from my opponent which honestly is literally the only way that I lose that that game right yeah so I should have definitely gone for that that was the play 106 yeah so I them so III might have said it's it's good - it's good to realize whenever whenever we made a mistake and you know try to try to see that for in the future so we're planning is the GAC and our version of the deck is very bad against the GAC so that sucks yeah cool sure very very reasonable stuff happening on the other side of the battlefield very reasonable stuff going on over there so I guess that the colony saves me more life because get jumped the vine that's eight twelve sixteen seventy power in play sure seventeen power in play on one or two while four of that with haste of course all right this card is praveen scream very good right here no I I honestly cannot believe that this is allowed to exist in the format it really blows my mind that they printed this card to begin with can you survive it so primetime blocks here I get Kyle Nevis Suva but then I cannot set up lethal on the crack back because I can only swing for like I know I can only fetch two lands it really baffles me that this is that this is Leo all right that's what I got that's all I got that's that's what I have I don't have anything more than that so gotta jump here cuz these regions right yeah this region so it's jumping there jump in there and block in there I'm still taking more than lethal cool glad that we got to play magic there the lad that we got to play Magic alright so Toma scraped ball carry turns carry terms seems kind of awful I just don't think I like Costa looks returned it's probably better than explosives no explosives various appeals the Korean theater all right try this again try to keep steering's but I mean I need the fellow Guardian combo and I need the prime times like what am I taking out instead like the finale's I want to find my affiliate already I was like this is the way that I go or at the top I can do something like this maybe I do think that amulet is the most important car in the matchup but I think that here we actually have an alternate game plan that might be good enough yeah I guess I'm gonna keep this hand and I'm gonna die which is right after Vegas if you don't is there I'm impressed I I am definitely definitely impressed and the only like there are definitely some some deck-building things that could be polished of course we did get very very lucky to be the hope to be Kovac I mean no questions there and they're so like Dec ability decisions that I'm not entirely sure I agree with like a return in this sideboard like I see why it's there it's because you know well we're already playing you know a bunch of colors already you might as well do that I am not entirely sold on the three vestige to either hub split I think that maybe two and two could be better especially because a removal spell r-remember spells are instant speed so inner hub makes it much easier to hold up these removal spells were coming bested it forces you to do things it's like main face which I don't love especially where you know we're going through the trouble of like Kari turn might as well like maximize the value that we get from it right same thing with fact of negation although I understand that in this deck we're trying to use packed application as a word to a way to like force through our like combos and stuff it looks like it's time to add another very into the list maybe I don't know and this is a very very fun one one thing that I want to point out is that in these versions specifically grace er makes a lot of sense again I mean if you if you in following the stream you know that I'm not a fan of this card I think that it's pretty bad but in this version of the deck specifically I think that grace er makes more sense than your regular amulet builds the fact that it allows you to like throw one grazer turn to severely turn three Guardian it's it can be kind of a big deal so I do like that aspect of the grey sir as we saw today grace er becomes much better with Harlem vestige we did have that come up now I would like one more copy of a scissor like I would really like to have access to the fourth azusa so maybe maybe this coalition uh techniques to go I get wanting to make this split but just as the fourth s is just so much better than they were the first coalition relic it's just like this is our best ramp spell by like a mile like by by many miles actually so I think that I I would want to keep the yes I were to make room for the fortresses maybe side this one out and I'm not really sold on these two steering's they seem kind of off I maybe we can do something like this maybe made in different can trip over the steering's where we're kind of short on targets for the steering's 31 it's kind of scatter off scanner rough actually I I would be into this actually I will be into something like this for example and we just go ahead and we turn the steering's into into the twenty-eighth land which I love do you have access to 28th land I understand the power of steering's it's even more important right now because steering's finds amulet which is extremely important in the whole leg matchup while also finding in Tamil scripts which is also very important in the whole back matchup so I could see something like this maybe botanical sanctum over the over the the other forest maybe something like this sanctum helps casts a Healy I could honestly also see just having access to another either have like a tour have number two something like this help us cast our spell sometime maybe something like this why the third forest over field of the dead are you not a fan of field I think feel this is a fine card but I think that forest is significantly better and field is not a main big card it's a best discipled card field has the same cost that the plus two plus zero land has teetering Peaks so the cost that this hat these cards have is the fact that they enter the battlefield tapped and they effectively tap for coalesce so that those are very very big costs for a carve in the ambulance shell having an untapped source the taps for green it's extremely important for the turn one grey sir Nyssa or maybe even amulets like having the land the lab they'll and entering tapped means that you cannot turn one amulet turn to Azusa which is a very very massive downside so I having a solid enough amount of untapped sources is very big I honestly can see these version of the deck really strong leading edge control decks like your say Healy fairly direct Guardian combo is very bad against control and you don't have access to cavern and you don't have access to like ballista which are your you know you're late game engines that allow you to win the game against control so I can see this rationally like really struggling against blue white and stuff like that manic conference are you good instead of the third force and the pain is just too big at the cost I don't think that it's like I'd rather have the second later hub before the first medical influence it's just like the pain is such a big cost same thing with CDO brass like taking damage like one of the biggest strengths of amulet is the fact that you don't really take damage from your mana base which makes things much much more manageable in their burn matchup and stuff like that if you're adding you know painful pain to your mana base that mean that your your anger of matchups become significantly worse in fact these decks seems to be very poorly positioned against burn make literally all of their deck stops our combo and we are just the worst primetime deck so if I if I were to play another league which I am not going to today unfortunately I don't have the time I had to do some other stuff and I had to do some stuff before the street that's why we started later so I apologize for that so if I were to play this deck again these are the changes that I would that I would try out and see how it performs as far as the main that goes of course if we go into the sideboard then we might want to make some further changes but just as like a starting point in terms of trying to tune the main deck a little bit this is what I would go for and see how this works out I could even see just like adding back the coalition relic honestly maybe over they packed or yeah actually let's let's try that actually so something like this I like having access to nine pieces of ramp that has been the the the number that has been giving me the best results so peaches yourself so you should you should join the discord and you should link twitch were doing yesterday just felt very very powerful so I do think that you're still playing slightly worse version I mean I probably a considerably worse version then this list of family right but I think that if you want to do something fun and very different like I missed a lot of lines with say Healy that's a Healey enable that I wasn't really thinking of so Sahil definitely opens up a whole lot of possibilities and a bunch of new lines which I find very very entertaining so if you want to have some fun and you want to challenge yourself if you will you know what you're just like you're already proficient with amulet and you wanna take it for another spin I I do enjoy I did enjoy this list a lot it was a lot of fun and I might try it out again in the future at some point we'll see
